Re: Nintendo Has No Plans To Censor Video Games Like Sony

@TempOr

My bad, I've just seen people get so overwhelmingly angry over such a minor change that as soon as that subject is brought up I'm just like "this again?"

I mean I'm all for people taking a stand against censorship but from what Sqenix has said about Tifa's change, it sounds justified.

Re: Nintendo Has No Plans To Censor Video Games Like Sony

@TempOr

Tifa's breasts are still big in the remake. She's wearing a training bra so they aren't flapping around while she fights. My god you people are insufferable.

Good on Nintendo for not censoring games, though I'm personally not interested in over sexualized characters just for the sake of it.

(Edit: not interested in the remake since it's going to be released episodically)

@Xelha

Oh no, your opinion definitely isn't wrong and I've disagreed with popular opinion on many occasions. I really don't know why I even said that, that's really the first time I used that point in a debate lol. BotW just impressed me so much and felt like such a breath of fresh air that I'm pretty defensive about it. As a lifelong Zelda fan, I dreaded the series going fully open world in a 3D environment because I was worried it wouldn't warrant the change. I was pleasantly surprised with BotW, and I do feel they'll improve upon an already fantastic formula in the sequel.

Re: Eiji Aonuma On Returning To The Hyrule Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild

@Xelha

You're entitled to your opinion, but it's one that I don't think you'll find a whole lot of people agreeing with. Breath of the Wild is a masterclass in open world game design, proving that hardware limitations are no issue in the right hands. I've yet to play another open world game with such amazing physics and interactivity. The amount of options you have in approaching tasks are dizzying. Horizon Zero Dawn and Odyssey are both good games, but they certainly aren't innovative. The biggest takeaway I got from Horizon was that they tried too hard to ape Far Cry.

Again, to each their own, but the rave reviews for Breath of the Wild are well earned. It's the best open world single player game out there. Perfect? No, but no game is. I'm not even a fan of open world games. I was when I was a teenager and they were a new thing, but after years of playing them, only about 10% utilize them well. Most of them feel like they're only open to artificially pad out repetitive content and break the pace of the game's story.

Re: Eiji Aonuma On Returning To The Hyrule Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild

Phostachio

@Xelha

Number increases (exp, items that make you deal more damage) feel artificial and don't feel meaningful to me because you aren't actually experiencing anything new. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but I just don't jive with the idea that RPG elements for the sake of RPG elements actually feel rewarding when all you're doing is increasing your numbers to match up with enemies whose numbers are being increased. That kind of thing gets exceedingly repetitive, especially in an open world game that can last 80+ hours. That's the only notable difference between Breath of the Wild and a game like Assassin's Creed. I actually just recently picked up Odyssey with the E3 sale going on, and I'm enjoying it for the story and mythology more than anything else. So far its open world is very pretty, and I'm enjoying the game, but hasn't actually done anything different from the last few Creed games. BotW has spoiled me on good open world game design.

Re: Eiji Aonuma On Returning To The Hyrule Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild

@Xelha

Eh, to each their own. Breath of the Wild did open world right because you weren't funneled from one waypoint to another, there was a sense of adventure and exploration that I just don't get with other open world games. Games like Assassin's Creed, while fun, feel like you're touring the world, marking waypoints on your map and getting to them as fast as you can while mostly ignoring the world around you until you're there, only to be greeted by another animal den or bandit camp. Breath of the Wild on the other hand feels like you're charting your map, where exploration is front and center.

The sequel really only needs a better story and dungeons imo. Though if the world map is exactly the same as in BotW with very minor tweaks, I'll be VERY upset.

@sanderev

I'm aware, I've been watching since 2004. I just feel that there's a reason these companies are doing their own thing now, and that's because the traditional conference doesn't have the same appeal that it used to. Directs are the way to go. Instead of hyping up a single event that happens once a year, these guys should just have Direct-like presentations sprinkled throughout the year.

Re: Rumour: Shigeru Miyamoto Will Be On-Stage During Microsoft’s E3 Briefing (Spoiler Alert: He Wasn't)

Phostachio

@graysoncharles

Good thing they switched to Directs. Again, Microsoft should take a page. Traditional presentations are so stale and seem like they're more for game journalism's benefit than the actual consumer. There were a lot of cool, interesting games overwhelmed by a lot of stuff that just didn't need stage presence. I mean just go by the reaction of the audience, tons of game announcements came and went and were met with dead silence.

Re: Rumour: Shigeru Miyamoto Will Be On-Stage During Microsoft’s E3 Briefing (Spoiler Alert: He Wasn't)

Phostachio

Well that was underwhelming. Don't get me wrong, there were good games shown, especially some of the indies, but overall it was way too long with too much filler. Did they honestly expect people to be excited about a Gears of War funko pop mobile game at E3? Oof. A lot of fluff with the Scarlett announcement just to tell us what was already obvious: the next Xbox is more powerful than the previous one. Whooptedoo.

I feel like Microsoft did much better last year, and the ball is in Nintendo's court this time around.

Re: Video: Nintendo Minute Shows Off More Of Super Mario Maker 2's Creation Mode

@Razer

It sounds like 2D platformers aren't your genre, friend. There are plenty of people who have fun just playing a game, they aren't so brain dead that they need a story or objective. Playing other people's crazy creations and having fun is the objective. Friends CAN play your levels, you can share them with anyone you want. Try not to sound like a condescending prick next time, folks here will thank you for it.

Re: Video: Nintendo Minute Shows Off More Of Super Mario Maker 2's Creation Mode

@DayOfLavos

I know it's a joke, but I'm genuinely curious if people are THAT upset about this. I mean, multiplayer was never something I really expected with the sequel anyway, let alone online multiplayer. The fact that I'll be able to play this with my fiance and family locally is far more important to me than playing with friends online. I guess it's an age thing.

Re: All Those amiibo On Your Shelf? You Can't Use Them In Super Mario Maker 2

Phostachio

Eh, this is hardly a big deal. I have quite a lot of amiibo, but I mostly just have them on my shelf for display. I'm not going to carry around figures in my Switch backpack just to scan them and probably never do anything with them after. The only amiibo I used often in a game was Wolf Link for BotW, but I have to admit that it's stupid you couldn't get a companion in the game like that normally.

Re: Devil May Cry For Switch Is The Same Game Featured In The 2018 HD Collection

Phostachio

@nhSnork

All I'm saying is that supporting shady business practices just because it's your only option isn't a great excuse, and all it does is hurt Switch owners who both have no other options and those who do. I'd like to get the DmC trilogy on Switch, but I'm not going to get ripped off. I'm happy that you can wait for it to go on sale, but unfortunately I'm sure there are going to be a ton of people who buy it day one. It's their money, they can do what they want, but it's sad and Capcom is just going to keep getting away with this.

Re: Devil May Cry For Switch Is The Same Game Featured In The 2018 HD Collection

Phostachio

@liljmoore

Absolutely, I'm not telling people to not get third party games on Switch. Just picked up FF12 myself because it's the same price that the game originally was when it launched on other platforms. I just have a problem with Capcom specifically splitting their collections up to get Switch owners to pay for each game individually so they end up spending 3x as much as other platform owners for the entire collection. It's shady and I really don't see why Nintendo fans should be so desperate that they'd give in. They aren't doing themselves any favors.

Re: Devil May Cry For Switch Is The Same Game Featured In The 2018 HD Collection

Phostachio

@nhSnork

Let's not turn this into a platform war, my point is that Nintendo fans shouldn't be so desperate to play a game that they'll let a publisher rip them off when they can get an entire collection of games much cheaper elsewhere. Like I said, I prefer to buy games on my Switch but I won't pay a Switch tax when I have other options. If you don't want to play the game on a laptop/desktop, there are other consoles where you'll get better deals on Capcom games.

Re: Devil May Cry For Switch Is A Port Of The 2018 HD Collection

Phostachio

Yeah, this is a hard pass UNLESS DmC1 is 1/3rd the price of the collection when it originally released elsewhere. Capcom feeding Nintendo fans piecemeal like this to get us to pay a premium on games you can get much cheaper elsewhere is ridiculous. I'll always choose the Switch version of a game over the Steam version, but I'm not going to pay that much more just to play it during transit. Don't get desperate and support shady practices guys, just get a decent gaming PC/laptop.

Re: Tetris 99 Big Block DLC Adds Two New Offline Game Modes

Phostachio

This is perfectly reasonable, the appeal of Tetris 99 is playing it against 99 other real opponents. For offline/local multiplayer Tetris I stick to Puyo Puyo Tetris. $10 isn't bad for offline components, especially if $30 for PPT (might be cheaper now, don't quote me on this) is too steep for some people.

Re: Mortal Kombat 11 Patches Are Imminent, All Players To Receive In-Game Currency

Phostachio

@Medic_alert

I've always enjoyed reading your comments here, but I never thought I'd see the day when you'd defend microtransactions. Locking content behind a paywall for a full-priced game is bogus, there's no good defense for it. Back in the day skins and all of this stuff you either have to pay for or spend forever unlocking were built into the game without a ridiculous grind. No one asked these developers to spend so much money making games, so the "financially viable" argument is invalid.

Creating expansions/characters/stages for a game after the full game was finished and asking for money is one thing, but putting crap in loot boxes and making you grind for random gear to manipulate people into paying for them is another.

This practice should NOT be defended. Oh well, I find Mortal Kombat to be extremely juvenile anyway.

Re: Octopath Traveler's Switch Exclusivity Might Be Coming To An End

Phostachio

@Reignmaker

Sure, if games coming a year later is what you consider "winning". Can't wait for PC elitists to claim victory when they get Red Dead Redemption 2 in 2022. I game on PC and Switch, but until it gets the same release dates as consoles get with a lot of AAA games, I wouldn't go so far as to claim it's the best platform. Certainly my platform of choice for non indie/Nintendo games, but not the best.

Re: Persona 5 S Website Goes Live With Info To Come, But Is It Related To Switch?

Phostachio

@PerishSong

Oh I'm sure those games are good, they just weren't personally enough to entice me into getting a PS4. Horizon came out around the same time BotW did, and BotW ruined all other open world games for me with how good it is. As for the rest, I'm not really too into heavily cinematic games. I'd probably play God of War if I owned a PS4, but I wouldn't buy a PS4 just to play it. I played Bloodborne and Persona 5 on my fiance's PlayStation.

Re: Random: Competitive Melee Player Walks Off Stage In Match-Up Against Jigglypuff

Phostachio

@Toastess

It's a live competition in a tournament. Pretty sure stakes couldn't be higher in a fighting game. They were both there to win, it wasn't the same thing as a friendly match between bros or something. Have you ever watched sports or any serious competition? As long as it's within the rules, people will do whatever it takes to win. I'm not saying that I agree with gast's playstyle or defend it, but he didn't break any rules unfortunately.

Re: Random: Competitive Melee Player Walks Off Stage In Match-Up Against Jigglypuff

Phostachio

@Toastess

He didn't cheat. I'm not defending him. You aren't even paying attention at this point. I've stated MULTIPLE times that I disagree with the way gastelum played, and believe him to be a coward. HOWEVER, what he did was not against the rules. If you want to argue that the rules need to be changed, you'll see no argument from me, but the point is that faux threw a hissy fit and walked off stage. He lost either way, the grown up thing to do was accept it and play through the match. He didn't did that, he walked off stage and proved that he couldn't handle a match against a cheap player. The only one here showing bias and being defensive is you.
