Yeesh, a roadmap for a mobile game isn't exactly a good sign. I think Pokemon Masters is a well-made mobile game, with a decent interface, good graphics and alright gameplay (for a mobile game), but it just doesn't do anything to really stand out and like other games on my phone, I played it twice and uninstalled it after it sat untouched for a week. Phone games just aren't compelling. The only ones I've been able to stick to are Pokemon GO, puzzle games, and roms.
I agree, I know that the Switch is a handheld device and that it's the most powerful/relevant dedicated gaming handheld out there. I'm not expecting graphical fidelity that'll blow me away. Pokemon certainly isn't a franchise that needs 60 FPS anyway.
Yeah, no. As Ral said, the Switch is a hybrid. You can't possibly put it in the same bracket as PS4/Xbox One by calling it a home console when the Switch can be played handheld and it runs on a mobile chip. If anything it's primarily a handheld with the ability to play it on your TV seeing as you don't need the dock whatsoever. The Switch Lite is purely a handheld device. The Switch doesn't need to be a successor to the 3DS to be Nintendo's current handheld.
(Whoops, didn't realize this guy was a troll. His comment history is incredibly sad and pathetic lmao)
I'm super excited for Pokemon Sword/Shield, this will probably be my favorite gen since Black and White from what I know so far. Gorgeous region, great Pokemon designs so far (except Impidimp), cool new features and online functionality. Sun and Moon had good Pokemon designs and a great story, but I didn't care for Alola as a region (felt incredibly small and segmented), island challenges were kind of lame and the linearity was too much for me and Pokemon is already a linear franchise. My fiance is getting Sword and I'm getting Shield and we're going to have a great time trading, battling, raiding and exploring the Wild area together.
@Supadav03 welcome to the internet, where people turn everything into a negative. I guess they loved how linear Sun and Moon was (I didn't). From what I've read on IGN's latest preview of the game, the Wild area is full of wandering Pokemon, Max raids to take part in, trainers, merchants and camp spots. Sounds like a dense enough area to me.
I mean I agree, it does look dumb. I'm not condoning censorship, I'm just saying that it isn't such an extremely big deal that the game is unplayable. Gameplay is unaffected and the developers worked hard on it, I wouldn't refuse to buy the game over minor changes. If the game had some kind of weird petting mechanic that some Japanese games have, and it was axed due to censorship I could at least understand the outrage. I personally am not interested in that sort of thing though, so it'd be no skin off my back.
Eh, I don't care for censorship but sexuality isn't a selling point with this game for me so I'm still getting it. It seems like such a small factor and definitely shouldn't be a make it or break it issue but then again people like to say one thing on the internet but their actions say something else. Most of the people you see here saying they aren't going to get it because of this are either
a.) Lying b.) Weren't going to get the game anyway
The difference is that it's been out for years on PS4 and this Switch port was very recently worked on. Effort went into getting this running on Switch, of course it isn't going to be $15 bucks.
Warframe is a perfect example of a good game that could have been more valuable if they had sold it as a $60 game and not have microtransactions. I mean, I would rather pay up front and not have to worry about that kind of thing. Spending real money on in-game currency always rubs me the wrong way, idk. I get that everyone has their own preferences but for me I just can't see how this game would be worth my time. I've seen Switch gameplay and I can't shake that it's a port of a mobile game. Warframe has a pretty good monetization model as far as f2p games go, but the game is grindier than it needs to be because of said monetization.
I understand the difference between the games, that isn't my point. I'm just saying that GRID is a full-fledged AAA console game that doesn't have a bunch of microtransactions while this is a shallow port of a mobile phone game.
I'm mostly just talking about value here, free to play games just feel shallow because of the monetization. The fact that it's still structured like a phone game kills my interest in this.
Glad they didn't change it up. I'm seriously just going to start putting National Dex whiners on my Ignore list at this point. You're still going to buy SnS, so your pointless whining doesn't mean anything. These games can't come soon enough!
Fair enough, fair enough. I think I'm just on edge with these reviews because if a reviewer even mentions perversion, even if he doesn't use it as a con, people here usually jump down his throat. It's okay to find these games distasteful. I don't really think he should be lowering the score because of his distaste for the genre, though. You know what you're getting into with these games.
I get what you're saying mah man, I do think the reviewer is letting subjectivity cloud his judgement. Like, he could comment on the game's pervyness without actually putting it in the list of cons and lowering the score because of it. The game's badly written dialogue is a fair criticism, however.
Just did a little research on it and its users are very progressive (which I'm all for), but very negative, they complain about everything, and seem to be pretty intolerant of people who don't quite share their mindset and politics (which I'm not for). I might disagree on things with my right-wing friends and family, but I love them and can be civil about said disagreements. Thanks for getting me to look this up, can't stand today's outrage culture.
Whataboutism is a widely used term outside of videogames, and I've never used resetera. The only thing I know about that site is that right wingers sure do hate it, so it's probably right up my alley.
@Heavyarms55 I don't think the reviewer called for this game to be censored. He probably just isn't into pervy games and gave his opinion on it. You're assuming he's into gratuitous violence and that's on you, not him.
Want to bet that Sword and Shield are going to be in the top three fastest selling Switch games of all time? I have a feeling you won't be commenting on that inevitable Nintendo Life article.
Whataboutism is a surefire way to ensure you lose an argument. Yeah I wouldn't play a super violent game on a bus around others either, but that doesn't make public softcore porn any better. These aren't my types of games but I'm fine with their existence, but I get so sick of these weak ass arguments to defend them. Play them, ignore this review if you don't agree with it, and move on.
People with these compulsive tendencies need therapy. If they aren't spending money on loot boxes or microtransactions they'll find another outlet to waste money on. As much as I dislike Mario Kart Tour and other free to play trash like it, it's a product that I don't have to spend money on and I'll only get outraged when Nintendo starts putting these microtransactions into their full fledged AAA console games.
I just don't agree that SnS looks lazy. The art style is nice and colorful, the Galar region looks really cool with a lot of variety in environments, the new Pokemon designs are good and the new features look like a lot of fun. Pokemon games have such short development time, so it's impressive that Game Freak can put out lengthy JRPGs and new worlds in that time.
I downloaded the app, I decided then and there I wouldn't spend money on anything, and I deleted it a few days later because I was bored. I said I wouldn't spend money on it and I didn't. I'm not saying that it isn't scummy but people have free will. Speak with your wallet and don't give in. These companies make these awful microtransaction free to play games because people willingly spend money on them. No one is holding a gun to their head.
I agree with you, but Sword and Shield isn't the first generation where people thought Game Freak were getting too comfortable. Pokemon in general is a comfortable franchise. It's just something to expect as a fan by this point, and that isn't necessarily a bad thing. Just look at Dragon Quest. Probably the most comfortable, traditional game series ever yet that doesn't detract from these quality of the games or the excitement of the series' fanbase. I'm not against a big shake up of Pokemon's gameplay, but only if the change makes the series better and Pokemon is already established as a JRPG series with very good tried-and-true gameplay.
As good as I think Game Freak is as a development studio, they aren't on the same level as the Zelda guys at Nintendo. Breath of the Wild was a huge shake up from the traditional Zelda blueprint we were all used to, and it was a massive success that made the Zelda franchise more relevant than it had been in years. I just don't think Game Freak can pull that off, especially because Pokemon as a brand is as strong as ever. So I'm okay with them being comfortable in this case. Pokemon just works. Why mess up a good thing?
The games are looking great and these are probably the only jerseys I would actually buy. Don't mistake the loud minority on the internet whining about the national dex for the general consensus on Sword and Shield. These games are going to sell extremely well and most people are going to really enjoy them.
I'm not making excuses for Nintendo or defending this game, but as long as they keep this kind of thing out of their real games on dedicated platforms I really don't care. Free to play mobile games have been monetized like this for years and all you have to do is not play it or give them your money. Even if the game didn't have these awful microtransactions it'd be an inferior Mario Kart game to every other real MK with actual button controls. It's harmless in that they haven't done this in the mainline games yet, and if you spend money on rubies in this crappy app you're just stupid and weak-willed.
Like I said, when this kind of thing starts showing up in their full $60 games, then we can start worrying.
It's harmless because it's free to play, but I can't for the life of me see why anyone would drop a dime on this when they could play a real Mario Kart game on a Nintendo device with actual controls. Even IF this game was worth spending some money on (it isn't), the prices are ridiculous and you'd really have to dislike yourself to get ripped off like that.
Completely fine with this. It gets a little old seeing Zubat and Geodude everywhere, hopefully there's a big emphasis on the new 'mon during the main adventure like we saw with Black and White.
Pokemon fans are so weird, some of them (like myself) want change and new experiences but a lot of you guys would stick with the same battle ready team for the next five generations. Good on them for purging hacked 'mon moving forward, hopefully they'll stay out of Wonder Trade.
Same, the SNES version is a better made game and the gameplay is much more tight. The Genesis version is flashier sure, but I really dislike the level design.
Of course he read it, he'd look awfully stupid if he didn't. c;
I understand the language barrier thing, but I remember Meta Knight getting banned from tourney play back in the Brawl days because players considered him O.P. I was just trying to rationalize why Hero would get banned from tourney play even if the language thing wasn't an issue.
San Andreas is the last one I finished, hopefully they bring it and Vice City as well though I don't think I'll play them again. Not really into these games anymore.
I love Hero, he's one of my mains now. That being said, I can understand why he'd be banned in tournament play because there is a good deal of RNG with his abilities. I don't really play Smash competitively though, and my in-laws have no problem with me using him at gatherings. The way I see it, characters shouldn't be banned at tournaments because it isn't as if you're using cheat codes or anything. Hero isn't some god character you unlock after all the others, he's a regular part of the roster. Either learn how to play against a good Hero main or hope he gets nerfed, but don't take the joy of playing as him away from someone.
The only positive thing I can glean from this is that this will be a great appvertisement for the real deal on Switch. That they've already made $1 million in a day from scummy microtransactions, not so great. As I've said before, just keep it out of real Nintendo games.
It isn't about actually paying for these microtransactions, dude. It's about how these developers build the game's progression systems around microtransactions. It devalues the game and hurts the experience.
Yeesh, I don't really know why anyone would enjoy unlocking characters in a game this way. Then again, I don't like to gamble. I'm glad Nintendo is keeping this garbage out of their real games, but I can't say that I'm not a bit disappointed with them. To think that one of my favorite franchises would have this blemish stamped on it is really sad.
Edit: Just noticed the irony of my profile picture.
This is good advertising for the real deal on Switch. Can't really complain, but no way am I downloading and playing a gimped Mario Kart with touch controls and gambling.
I think most of us who have seen gameplay and aren't in it for the fanservice knew this would be bad, but did you guys really have to title the review that way? Gr8 b8 m8
