@Trikeboy Exactly. Reggie isn't in charge of Nintendo, the CEO in Japan is. Reggie is only in charge of the American branch and even then he can only do what Nintendo in Japan allows. Reggie cannot freely answer anything major about the system that he hasn't been briefed on or doesn't have clearance to talk about.

Impressed with the price, even in Canada that'll be pretty cheap. Also like the flexibility for the shorter terms. The delay extending the free period is fine too. What's the rush to spend money?

Reminds me of trying to play Wii Sports and getting slapped on the arm by the wrist strap. I simply put it on afterwards, I feel no need to remove them.

@BornInNorway81 The Wii has apps like Netflix, YouTube, and an internet browser. I'm pretty sure the Wii has more features actually.

I don't even really play Pikmin 3 multiplayer but my gold coins will expire soon so I may as well grab what I can. Dare I say that these rewards are semi-decent? There just needs to be more variety.

I really enjoyed Sun & Moon after starting the series with Gen 6. I had fun with X & Y but looking back it felt too easy and incomplete. ORAS was more polished but I found it rather boring and you could tell it took a few steps back to stay true to the original.

Sun & Moon was refreshing, fun, and more challenging for me. And it has a Pokedex you can actually complete if you're new to the series to get the shiny charm. Playing Battle Royal online with 4 players so you don't have to grind for a strong team for a chance to win and have fun. I enjoyed the story and having 2 clear rivals instead of all of the friends in X&Y. First Pokemon game I've fully enjoyed and makes me look forward to future titles. Only real downgrade is the lack of PSS. Shaking things up for one game with trials & SOS doesn't bother me. Gyms will obviously be back in the future.

I wish they'd port USFIV but they've moved on from that I guess. How does the 3DS have a main series game but not the Wii, Wii U, or Switch?

I'm still wondering how the Switch was expected to magically fix My Nintendo? It's the site itself that needs to improve and Nintendo hasn't shown any sign of doing so at this time.

Please put more effort into this Nintendo.

@liveswired Really? I thought the games were only blurry because they were blown up for the higher resolution. If you hold start or select I believe when opening a DS game it plays in native resolution which does look clearer.

@riChchestM You can catch both forms in both games.

@Tarvaax DS games don't look any better on the 3DS, they actually look worse because of the higher resolution.

@Action51 That's the thing. They're forcibly up-selling you to XL even if you want to upgrade from old 3DS to a regular New 3DS.

@Arehexes @nab1 Well there are other levels on Mario Maker that have been broken by updates. There is nothing stopping Nintendo or the course creator from deleting them when that actually happens.

I wish the New 3DS had a design this nice.

They need to bring this to the Switch and add new features and keep it updated.

Also there's no real point in deleting harmless glitch levels. Let people have their fun.

@Action51 Original 3DS costed $169 in 2011. XL didn't come out until 2012. I'm just comparing the lowest price for any 3D capable system currently sold to back then. Which is now $200 for N3DSXL.

3DS prices in NA are very strange. It was more affordable launch year (in 2011) than it is now.

@NEStalgia I have an old 3DS and I like the 3D. But it's an annoyance to your eyes at times to stay in the sweet spot and can feel quite straining. This probably ruined 3D. If the O3DS had super-stable 3D it probably would have been better received.

@BulbasaurusRex More like every region but North America. Very annoying. They've sold every model (in a non limited run) except the regular NN3DS.

@iMarkU This isn't true, some people do buy things just to have them or "just in case" or they buy it and never open/use it. $60 isn't worth the same to everyone. This is definitely a title Switch owners would feel obligated to buy due to its high quality and the small library.

The Switch and 3DS can co-exist. The Switch is exciting and all, but the Switch is NOT an adequate replacement for the practical/affordable portable gaming 3DS offers, nor does it have a large diverse library at this time. In the future maybe, but not right now. Nintendo would be cutting themselves off from a large part of the market. (And probably losing it to iOS and Android).

The Nintendo 3DS is an 8th generation console and the 8th generation isn't over. There's no rush to discontinue it. The Switch isn't even a viable alternative library wise yet, in comparison to the 3DS' massive one.

@Nintendian They're not doing that. The vast majority of the 3DS install base is using the old 3DS, 3DS XL or 2DS. Economically doesn't make sense.

If this was the goal they'd have to make a cheap entry point to it and this is only close in price to the NN3DS, let alone the 2DS.

@Crono1973 Yeah, but it's hard to define what "extending the life cycle" would mean. For example with the Wii Nintendo stopped making games for it before the Wii U even came out. We know how that turned out. IMO It's not really comparable because they are going a different route this time.

But yeah, you're right, I suppose this doesn't necessarily mean anything about how long they'll support the 3DS.

@Crono1973 That only strengthens the point that the 3DS can fill a different position than the Switch. All I meant was that it's proof they're still supporting the 3DS (in some form) at this time.

@Crono1973 You're comparing home consoles to their direct successor, the 3DS is running along side the Switch at the moment.

It's annoying that it looks better than the N3DS XL but doesn't have 3D... And why are they announcing this now? It's not even close to the end of July.

Why can't they just release the regular New 3DS in NA? This is only good for someone that wants an XL and doesn't care about the 3D.

@JasmineDragon I didn't say they don't compete. I'm saying the 3DS reaches a (more frugal) market the Switch doesn't. Even the President of Nintendo has said this.

The 3DS is not in the same position as the Switch. It's actually good as an affordable gaming device. The Switch costs more, has expensive controllers and accessories, higher priced games, and a paid online service. They're just not targeting the same audience at this time.
