The Switch is selling faster than some very hot cakes right now and according to "inside sources" cited by The Financial Times, Nintendo is upping production in an attempt to meet demand.
These sources claim that Nintendo is looking to increase production to ensure that those who wish to buy a system at Thanksgiving and Christmas won't be disappointed. The increased production was apparently ordered just weeks after the system launched in March, and it means that Nintendo is now targeting a production run of 18 million consoles for the first full year of the Switch's lifespan.
Furthermore, some industry analysts believe that Nintendo is being intentionally conservative with such targets and may even be targeting 20 million units before the end of March, 2018. Kazunori Ito, an analyst at research firm Ibbotson Association Japan, goes as far as to state that Switch will sell 80 million units over its lifetime.
If these reports are to be believed, the Switch will smash the Wii U's total sales in a single year, and could end up being the Wii-style success that Nintendo is hoping for.

I wonder how many Switch consoles have been sold worldwide? If it were a great number, wouldn't they have published it somewhere?
Anyway, I hope they can sell as many as they produce. If the Switch could outsell the Wii U in its first year I'd be impressed.
Wow, very impressive. As long as demand is as big as they expect, and as long as they can produce enough consoles, then it's gonna be a great year for Nintendo.
@Moon I recently read they've so far sold just over 4 million: 2.75m in the first 27 days and a further 1.3m since then.
Really nice news if true. The more they sell, the more games we will get
The more news like this is reported,the more in-demand the Switch becomes.The more in-demand it becomes,the harder it is to purchase and then more good news is reported and so on.They've nailed this launch big time.Considering how much they messed up their previous 2 launches,amiibo and NES Mini,that's an impressive feat.Also I think it's clear now that it's not just the games that are selling the hardware,it's the hardware itself.
Fail to prepare, prepare to fail.
@Moon It's somewhere around the 4 million mark.
This is great news for me! After all the overtime I've been pulling lately, I can almost afford a Switch and some games for it. Just yesterday, I checked to see if they were available for MSRP anywhere, only to get a rather frustrating answer. Here's hoping I'll be able to buy one without much hassle.
I'll just be impressed if they beat the Wii U's lifetime within the first year.
That's great but how about the people that want to buy a Switch now?! lol
I just don't get what is making it so popular?
That's great to hear if true.
Let's hope developers ramp up their releases for Switch.
@RainbowGazelle Never mind.
I'm waiting for the Pokémon Stars themed Special Edition
@RainbowGazelle
Portability and Switching, baby !
That's the Secret ingredients of Nintendo Switch.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE
Prepare for Hype, Hyped for Preparation !
Switch need to be shipped at least 2 millions units each month starting from June 2017 - March 2018.
@RainbowGazelle
I've been playing games on mine personally. 😉
This is really good news if it turns out too be true.
There's no way it'll reach 20 million by March next year as predicted by some analysts.
Read this earlier. Hmm, not sure. Will they ACTUALLY sell that many systems by then?
Or maybe it's a lie and they will bump up production to something like 12million and see how it goes. I love the system, but I just can't see these figures in reality TBH.
This news doesn't surprise me, yep MH is on the way. Looks like the switch sales numbers will pass wii u sales within a year from now, maybe before. Can't see it selling 18 million first year though
@SLIGEACH_EIRE ... Especially when there are so many sitting on the shelves of every Irish Retailer with no home to go to...
Isn't this old news? They reported the ramped up production back when it happened in March, this is just referencing the same thing with the same 20 mil prediction as everyone was arguing about then.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE Says the person that said the Switch was going to fail... Guess that means that it is going to sell 20 million by March next year.
@dazzleshell HAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHA, excelent.
And still the OS is about as empty and featureless as Wii's OS.
Ok. If the Switch sells 18 million systems by March next year then it's basically guaranteed to be a huge hit by the end of its life; no smart developer is going to completely ignore that kind of momentum (even if they still don't put their biggest and best AAA games on it--like with Wii). Getting around 10 million sales in the first year is basically the key to giving a system the best chance of guaranteed success going forward. This is why I was sooo disappointed when the Wii U fell sooo far short of that target in its first year, even though it had that year basically all to itself. So, yeah, if Switch can pull this off then it's future is bright--at least in terms of sales numbers. I really hope it pushes a least 10 million by March 2018; that would be very cool.
The Switch only has 3 large sales pushes in it's first year since it has no top tier 3rd party support that we know of. Zelda/launch, which we've already had and saw it went well. Splatoon 2 will probably be the next decent sized push, many people are probably holding off because they could get Zelda on Wii U but not Splatoon 2. Then Mario/Christmas which will be a big one. Everything outside that and I'd be surprised if the big numbers come in because there are no games. Maybe it'll be the Wii, casual gamers buy it, play for a week, realize there is nothing for them to play for a 6 months and let it gather gust until a house party happens.
I'd say 8-10mil by the end of calender 2017 but with what we know of Nintendo's current plans, it could fall apart very quickly outside of a few key periods.
Shame they didn't ramp up production earlier. I couldn't buy one when I was in Japan last week. A second Switch console tax free would have been nice.
If the Switch sells 18 million by March 2018, I'll eat my own shoe. It won't, that's just way too much. I do think it'll get to at least 7 million by that time, maybe even beat the Wii U's sales, but not sell 18 million. It's good that they're ramping up production though, but if I'm to believe some people, there are spare Switches on every street corner.
Headline: a rumor that Nintendo is doing something
ooh, lets go to the comments to see all the random internet people who are better at marketing, development, distribution, design, and market research than a 85 billion dollar company; all that with no privileged information.
Makes my day
Well, the FT are usually pretty accurate. Big numbers though. 10-12 million total by end of next March would be a roaring success, let alone any more. Makes me think the Pokémon and Smash Bros rumours are true.
Looking forward to E3. Nobody can judge their chances of achieving this until E3.
Whilst I've certainly been taken by surprise at the popularity of the Switch, saying it's going to sell 18/20 million consoles in the first year alone is a bit far fetched isn't it, especially these days? I'm just trying to put that into perspective. Did the Wii, PS2, DS or original Game Boy ever do numbers like that in the first year? If not I don't see how the Switch can.
@Flauber
Because said company is infallible and always gets its projections right of course....
@RainbowGazelle 2 reasons, Zelda (people want to know why it's so highly rated) and portability. My brother skipped the Wii U because it didn't interest him. He said the thought of playing games like Skyrim on the go sold him.
@GravyThief The Wii had sold just over 20 million by the end of 2007.That's 13 months and 2 Xmas periods on the market.The Switch will only have one Xmas but it's already sold close to 1 million more than Wii did in its first 3 months on the market.With all the big hitters on the way in the next few months and hopefully more revealed at E3 it's certainly possible it could reach those numbers.
@Flauber Hard to argue Nintendo know any better given the WiiU Then again that was one of Iwata's many failings so they might be on track now.
I love it when people state there is no demand just because their local retailers have consoles in stock,any console no matter how popular will be available in certain locations.
On the whole though most major online retailers and stores in major cities are still struggling to get a steady supply of Switch consoles,Japan seems to sell out as soon as the console comes back in stock.
I think we need to look outside the NeoGaf/video game forum mentality for a second,people that post on such forums are in the minority,hell NeoGaf has only around 180,000 members and if everyone of them did not buy a certain console it would hardly make or break it's lifetime sales,our hobby is very niche and the tech heads like ourselves only make up so much of the market.
Nintendo has created a console concept that has the potential to reach a much larger audience than the traditional hardcore market,that does not really bother if the Switch gets the latest triple AAA titles from third parties.
The Switch to a casual gamer has more than enough titles already available from Nintendo's current efforts and indie/retro titles,and that's before Nintendo have even announced anything for the Switch as yet.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE There's no way it'll reach 20 million by March next year as predicted by some analysts.
While I'm inclined to believe you I would wait till after E3 to say such things. For all we know Nintendo will announce a proper Metroid, Pokemon, Animal Crossing, Pikmin, Kid Icarus Uprising 2, and whatever Retro is doing. Doubt all that will come true but I'll wait to say that.
18 million for the PS4 in its first year, 20 million for the Wii in its first year.
I'm not expecting it to get to 18, 20 million that quickly, but I'm not excluding that possibility at all. Popular consoles can move those numbers and the Switch has been doing really well so far.
Maybe it takes the Switch to out perform the Wii U lifetime sales in one year to appreciate how badly the Wii U bombed. (Disclaimer - I loved the Wii U...but it was a flop! I am comfortable accepting that lol.)
http://www.vgchartz.com/analysis/platform_totals/
The only hardware sales comparison I can find.
@GrailUK it really did. But the wii u could do some good. Nintendo needs hire developers to port all the top wii u games over switch. As (yes ive got the cross put up in garden to be crucified for saying this) most switch owners didnt or wont have had a wii u, You have games developed great games. Just look at MK8D sales.
The switch is a great system. It'll be here for a long while
Smart move upping production because not having the supply could result in customers going the Scorpio or PS4 route when the holidays arrive if Switch isn't available. Nothing like sending your business down the road because you didn't have enough. Then everything they purchase from then on is from the other business.
@RainbowGazelle The one two sucker punch of Splatoon 2, MH and DQX in Japan. Last shipment to the Japanese Nintendo store sold in under six minutes.
And in America the situation isn't that much better, and if they confirm the date for MH it's going to get worse.
I don't think this confirms Pokémon Stars, most of you are ignoring the selling power of MH and the million seller in Zelda and Mario Kart 8. That most people already played here due to being Nintendo hardcore and buying the Wii U is one thing, but you can't deny the appeal they have for casuals/gamers who skipped the Wii U.
@Anguspuss I just checked outside on my lawn and there is a crucifix standing there too. It wasn't there yesterday. Anyways, I was going to say that there are so many great third party games from the 360 / PS3 era that could be remastered for Switch. I hope that Skyrim is the beginning and the more the merrier. It would be awesome if Chronicles of Riddick showed up.
@Nintendoer but if I'm to believe some people, there are spare Switches on every street corner.
I wish that were true last week when I was in Japan! There were zero Switch consoles to be found in every electronics store in the three places I went to. (Tokyo, Kyoto, Hakata) I see a few back here at home, but I was really hoping to get a second console tax free.
@RainbowGazelle
Why wouldn't the thing sell?
The general concensus is that the Switch has an appealing portability "gimmick", was advertised with good marketing, and launched with one of the highest rated games of all time.
Now, I don't think the Switch will ship 18 million units during this fiscal year, but Nintendo is clearly raising sales forecasts to meet higher than expected demand.
@Luna_110 Mario...you forgot Mario Odyssey. I honestly think it will be the fastest selling game ever. The stars have aligned.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE
Actually Switch can reach 20 millions by the March 2018. Starting from June 2017 until March 2018 it takes 9 months to go 18 millions (Already more than 2 millions from first launching until this May 2017).
To able reach 18 millions remaining for 9 months, at least 2 millions of Switch must be shipped every months. Expect some killer Apps such as Monster Hunter XX, Splatoon 2, Animal Crossing Switch, Pokemon Stars, Super Mario Odyssey, etc that will increase the sales even more.
I believe it can reach or exceeding 20 millions by the end of March 2018.
@Anti-Matter 2 million a month is f**king nuts man. I think the Switch is doing incredibly well but that is a silly number to hit.
@Menchi187 you saying switch owners are holding up on Zelda? Really! Word! Tell you what I stop reading your bullpoo right at that sentence.
Ya, it'll never reach that many units sold in a year. But, I don't think they expect to sell every unit shipped.
If they even sell 10m, which is pretty much a guarantee at this point- they're already at 4m and gaining about 1.5m every 2 months (would be more if they could ramp up production, which is what they're doing)- they'll hit 9.5m this year before factoring in November, which will likely be 1.5m for a single month. Which equals a total of 11m
That's not factoring in additional sales from increased production though.
@Indielink
Eh... I just only calculated the estimation to reach 20 millions by the end of March 2018. Maybe it sounds impossible but it depends on how does Nintendo manage their Switch sales.
@Nintendoer I recommend ketchup.
I caved and bought my Switch this past weekend. South Korea imports them from Japan so I think they are a bit easier to find than back home in Canada. I didn't think the Switch would sell well in Korea because everyone plays PC games or mobile games on their phone. However, the vendors I speak to say they get stock in and then it sells out quickly. I think 18 million is wishful thinking but getting 10-12 million would be an incredible first year.
@Anti-Matter
I want what ever your on, you are flying with the cuckoo's if you think it will sell 20 mill plus by end of March 2018. Even with more production there will be shortages for a while, they couldn't even make that many, not this year anyway
Before we start talking about how many they can sell I'd like to see one on a store shelf, I never have. Hard to tell how many will sell when there aren't any. And it's hard to know for them how many to make when they can't keep them on the shelves. And it's hard to guess how many will sell this holiday as I can't think of a game release date after Splatoon 2, 2017 and holiday aren't "dates". Zelda was delayed 2 years, Star fox was delayed about 5 months, so as far as I'm concerned as of right now Switch has no games lined up for Christmas.
Fortunately E3 is in 2 weeks, then we can see, surely there will be a date or 2 or 3 then. More grest games = more consoles sold, simple math.
@RainbowGazelle
I don't get it either.
Are people buying it just to play zelda?
Just looked on uk ebay and most of the used listings are switch + zelda....
@Anti-Matter Actually, seeing how it's sold somewhere around 4 million by now, Nintendo needs another 16 million in the next 10 months.
That's 1.6 million per month. With Splatoon 2 in the summer, Skyrim in the fall (it won't do all that much, but still) and then most of all Mario during the Holidays, it's not completely out of reach.
If you ask me though, for Nintendo to get to those 20 million, they'd have to
a) release a Pokémon game ('Stars' or a new title)
b) add a browser, Netflix, YouTube, etc. (if only for the TV commercials)
c) either bring out some of their mobile games for the Switch or deliver some cross-compatiblity fun stuff
d) get a Monster Hun.... oh wait, they're already on it
@Alexprime @rjejr
You honestly think they won't have any software for the holidays?
That's the most wonderful time of the year.
I guarantee theyve have this first fiscal year planned out in stone for a long while. E3 included.
@Alexprime
Watch the language. Nintendolife thinks everyone who frequents their site is 5 years old. Lol
@Anti-Matter wow man
20 and even 18 would be a considerably bigger start than the first year the Wii had.
The wii did two consecutive years of 25 million units after its launch year, however. I wonder if the Switch is destined to go beyond that.
Nintendo should probably attempt to push as many Switches into people's hands as possible, especially in Japan. They likely know Sony has something up their sleeve like a Sony Switch. Sony sold the PS4 purely on hype. It has a terrible controller, and their ecosystem leaves much to be desired, especially PS Now. I'm pretty sure Nintendo can do the same.
Christmas alone can do 4M units plus the 4M already sold, 1M per month for the other 10 months is only 1M per month for 18M total
18M is high but 15M is doable
Who's fingers are those on the joycon? They aren't using the attachment it came with, to make those top buttons easier to press. I hope it's not that guy that says "Hello lovely people".
@johnvboy
Your comment makes too much sense and therefore does not belong on an internet message board.
I seriously doubt it will sell through 18 million by the end of the fiscal year, but having more consoles in stores to buy is a good thing.
I like when Nintendo has stock issues and people go "Straighten out your stock issue!", but when they do so by produdiung a ton of consoles to sell, people are saying "That's way too many! Nintendo will never sell that much!" They really can't win, can they?
I've seen Switch one time on a display case at a local Best Buy, there were about 10 of them. A few days later, I went to the same BB, and saw no Switches. For the most part, I've not seen any Switches at the major retailers near me. Then again, I don't really look hard because I own one and won't get a second one for a little while. As for hard numbers, I'm going to refrain from making any predictions because I don't know what unannounced games are coming to Switch by this time next year.
For what it's worth, most of the people I know are interested in Switch. My wife immediately thought it was cool after the initial reveal trailer, but she was disappointed that Splatoon 2 wasn't a launch title. Again, not going to make any specific predictions, but as of now, it really is the console people love to love, and it can sell fairly well.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE
what if it was a main series Pokemon BUNDLED in ? for $50 more. ?
portability and the Switch runs games better than the DS or Wii U.
@Menchi187
And Monster Hunter XX, which will drive Japan wild. It may not have the same effect in the West, but MH is a steadily growing franchise outside of Japan and releases don't go quietly.
Dragon Quest is like MH in that it won't be nearly as big in the West, but it'll definitely get Switches in Japanese peoples' hands on whatever console it releases for, especially a portable one.
You're also assuming that Nintendo has no surprises in store that it is saving for E3, which is only a few short weeks away. I never assume I know a company's complete release schedule for the year until after E3. I said in the MHXX comment section the other day that the announcement of X-play and X-save for MHXX is TREMENDOUS news for the possibility of a Pokemon Stars on Switch. If that becomes a reality, that will be huge news worldwide, not to mention things like a port of Smash.
Yeah? I'm not going to say it's impossible, but 15 million units created and sold in the next 9 months is pretty unrealistic. It's not that I don't think they'd sell, it's that nintendo is terrible at, well, making things when it's early in their life cycle. By 2020 they'll be cluttering shelves.
@DrkBndr You can't say it's a success or a failure after just 2 months on sale.
@Cyberbotv2 "Sony sold the PS4 purely on hype. It has a terrible controller, and their ecosystem leaves much to be desired, especially PS Now"
So they sold 60 million consoles purely on hype, and they have a terrible ecosystem huh? They have more quality first party games in the past 3 years than Nintendo has made this decade, all the third party games, indies, and the controller is universally praised for everything except battery life. Nice try at Sony bashing, but you failed spectacularly.
@SanderEvers I said in my comment that I know they will sell, it's on Nintendo to actually create that amount of hardware in the next 9 months, which i don't think they're capable of doing based on their previous console releases. That's 15 million units, all produced and sent out worldwide in 9 months, i just can't see that kind of volume from them.
@Traskin7 @crackafreeze
I'm not saying it's good or bad, just that we don't know yet. Obviously Nintedo will have something game related for the holidays, but we dont' know if it will be Switch Music where you use the Joy-con to play air guitar or Pokemon Stars on Switch. So before we start predicting Switch sales we should wait a few weeks and look at the game release schedule.
I do think Mario will be out in Oct or Nov. I also thought I'd be playing Zelda in 2016 and Yooka-Laylee on the Wii U. So not only do we have to deal with constant game delays but we dont' even know what games are due out yet, and the ones we do know about, Mario and Xenoblade Chronicles 2, dont' have dates. How is anybody supposed to make a Switch sales prediction w/o any actual information?
@Spoony_Tech You're right, after E3 we can guess more accurately whether 20 million is possible. If they get some major surprise announcements then it could be really high. Though 20 million is still a stretch.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE You're definitely a valuable member to the community, as you do have a unique perspective on things. But when you make comments such as "fail to prepare, prepare to fail". You just come off as somebody's who as other people have claimed wants the Switch to fail, and can't get over the Wii U's demise.
It would be nice if you could give solid reasoning why it will fail, rather than just claims with zero evidence supporting it. As that's almost the exact definition of a hater, someone who just says something bad to say something bad.
Somehow I read it as "Nintendo is wrapping up Switch production for the fiscal year." I was confused for just a second.
@burninmylight MH is huge in japan, no doubt. But I'm disinclined to agree it'll set the market on fire with MHXX because it's only a port of a game they already have. You can argue tv play, hybrid console, save data transfer, future investment, but I don't think it'll do what you think it will. If it was a new title, sure.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE I think it could easily with the holidays.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE
Oh, btw.
I remember my promise for you about Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.
Promise is promise. I bought Mario Kart 8 Deluxe yesterday. Quite cheap, just IDR 720,000 or US$ 54.05
Here is my proof.
@dazzleshell Your neighbourhood's store does not represent how many Switches have been sold on the whole planet. Common knowledge!
@RainbowGazelle better marketing. Had a highly anticipated game at launch. While MK8 was a port, there might have been a lot of folks who skipped the Wii U, so this game is new to them. Finally, true portability. I thought the gamepad was pretty cool, but I think a lot of people wanted something that could be played anywhere, not just the living room.
It still needs games to keep the momentum going. It needs more than the games already announced.
@Cosats my comment was a joke in relation to certain views on Irish stock that has been mentioned on numerous nintendo is doomed posts... It is sold out worldwide though as far as Nintendo is concerned... i don't actually go into stores to check mind as once you have the console, whether Nintendo, Sony or Microsoft it is cheaper to buy the games online.
@rallydefault
Yes I don't know where my head was at,back to the usual mantra on here.
Nintendo are doomed.
As for no games coming out... we will probably get rabbids in August/ September, Smash deluxe in October and Odyssey in November. And whatever other suprises E3 brings to add to line up. Can people actually afford or have time to play everything?
@crackafreeze
I am 170 hours into Zelda and have no idea where the time has gone,still not touched Fast racing,Mario kart and Lego city.
@RedMageLanakyn , I don't own any current Nintendo hardware. And I'm not buying a Switch anytime soon. I own an Xbox one, which is a fantastic console. Unfortunately, their initial reveal slowed them down, but for me its the best console I've owned since a gamecube. I'm a big fan of xbox play anywhere and the huge amount of backwards compatible games which I never played. PS Now is an inferior service. And the controller does not hold up to the xbox one or its elite controller.
@Cyberbotv2 The Xbox one is a good console, i have one myself. I also have an elite controller and enjoy it immensely, more so than a DS4. Also, there's no contesting that services like Game Pass, Play Anywhere, the BC, and EA's service are hands down way better than anything Sony is offering in that area. Sony, however, is bringing the games hard. Some of the best games I've ever played have been on PS4, hands down. On xbox one, I mainly use it as a BC machine, and FH3 has to be the best racing game I've ever played in terms of sheer content and fun. All consoles have their strengths and weaknesses this gen, and they're affordable enough that having all of them isn't outside the realm of possibility if you find good deals.
@burninmylight , I think cross play and cross save is a big deal too. I like the xbox play anywhere method. But Nintendo could make it a buy on Switch and get a digital version with your 3ds. That would push even more Switches out the door. But I don't even know if its possible.
@Alexprime watch the profanity please.
@crackafreeze
I have had a few time trials on Mario kart,just to give me a break when I was stuck in a shrine etc.
But I played Mario kart quite a lot on the Wii U,so a break from it will make the switch version seem a little more fresh.
@RedMageLanakyn : I just discovered Fallout 3, and Dark Souls via BC. It's just amazing. PS4 does have a few games I would like to play at some point. Horizon, The Last of Us, the upcoming Spider Man game. And every console definitely has its benefits. Most importantly they'll have a variety of games. And right now the Switch isn't there. Nintendo has a tough climb ahead.
That's good but they need to ramp up games on the system. The lack of Virtual Console makes it feel fairly empty, I counted and literally a third of the entirely NA library is Neogeo titles... and the number of retail games is still ridiculously small. Plus lots of indie games that WANT to be available on the system can't. It's a great system, don't get me wrong, but still having no VC feels like a step back from the Wii U and for first party, yes we got Zelda but then the next three are all multiplayer focused games and we aren't getting a second single player adventure until holidays.
I don't mean to complain too much though, I'm pretty happy and if MHXX would just be announced for the West life would be perfect (though still having VC on it is much wanted...)
@Akropolon I think they'll get around 15-16 million by March of next year, but 20 million might be possible with a really good holiday push.
Personally I think they need to have a great E3 showing to get the rest of the Wii U crowd sold, like a new Metroid or Donkey Kong. They need a virtual console service that is appealing. Give us free transfers if we own games on Wii U, offer up half off sales every month for a selection of virtual console games, and please have a large library available from the get go. Nintendo should be focused on selling a larger quantity of virtual console games at a lower price to get people excited for major new releases on the system. And of course announce Pokemon. That franchise will sell consoles. Personally I'd love to see them remake gen 1 again on the Switch, or preferably do a sequel to Red/Blue and Gold/Silver.
@Cyberbotv2
Depends on which markets demographic you look from,from a casual perspective the switch has a wide choice of software already,smartphone users are basically playing the same titles over and over,paying for extras and micro transactions,and that market is only growing not shrinking.
@-DG @Cyberbotv2 That would be really awesome if we could transfer our games from the Wii U and 3ds to the Switch..... I'd even pay for that online service with this.....
@johnvboy I am a casual gamer and found phone/tablet games unfulfilling. IMO, if the Wii U were marketed properly, it would have been a bigger success. Target people like me- who aren't that much into games, but want a richer experience than what a phone or tablet can offer.
@BornInNorway81 The Wii has apps like Netflix, YouTube, and an internet browser. I'm pretty sure the Wii has more features actually.
This is really good news if true. Nintendo have hit the nail on the head. Alot of positive news for Switch recently - Unreal 4 support, industry standard tools, industry standard hardware, easy to develop for - everything the Wii U wasn't essentially. Glad to see Nintendo have learnt their lesson.
@Alexprime As others have said, watch the language. White nationalism and transphobia the moderators will allow, but such language crosses the line. I guess. Haven't figured out why, but whatever. Don't want people to realize this is a website on the Internet, maybe?
I finally managed to get a Switch last Friday from the Nintendo store and it has that left joycon problem! I would have though the ones they have just made would have had it worked out.
@Nintendoer
Apprently the Switch is already around the 4million units. Hitting the 7million is not difficult at all, 18 is a high guess and really depends on the E3. But I think they can manage atleast 12/14 million easily.
And here in the NL its still close to impossible to get one.. If a Switch unit finally hits the shelves it sells the same day.
guess wat theres a limited edition monster hunter xx for switch comes with lots of goodies but capcom doesnt bring it here angry mobs will form.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE not if they are only making 18 million 😜
@RainbowGazelle I think its a strange curiosity that has some how manifested itself. I have more friends who are not gamers talking about buying one than any system i have known before. I think to those who are not really in the scene, the dual system style is really getting across to them, much in the way that the wii's motion gimmick did. I also think parents will be attracted to it for the same reason, as in it will become an all in one solution over buying consoles and handhelds.
I'm surprised to see people still surprised that Switch is doing well. It's doing all the basics right-good hardware, well marketed, plenty of games (13 games with a Metascore of 80 and above after less than 3 months). No big secret.
@electrolite77 plus being portable and being able to play it on the tv brings something completely new to the table. Ne features like this tend to draw customers. Why are people so surprised about something like this? It is almost a staple to the life of a gamer if you think about it.
The more I play my switch the cooler it feels, I think to some extent the hardware is selling its self.
@RainbowGazelle I'm with you on this, they've done nothing special compared to the Wii u launch except market the thing better. I guess they have created enough 'consumer hype' somehow!?!
@ULTRA-64
Nothing you said about Switch ?!
There are TONS of Switch commercials, event , etc and you said Nothing ?!
@Flauber Yes, but even with all the money they have failed to envisage how well it will sell. Let's see:
Honestly, they can probably get optimistic on production with the already announced games. Zelda will sell this Christmas, Mario Kart, too. Mario should be out, as well. Pretty awesome trio to spearhead the holiday lineup if you ask me.
@Nintendoforlife You interpreted my comment wrongly.
Good hands holding that Joy-Con there.
