The Switch is selling faster than some very hot cakes right now and according to "inside sources" cited by The Financial Times, Nintendo is upping production in an attempt to meet demand.

These sources claim that Nintendo is looking to increase production to ensure that those who wish to buy a system at Thanksgiving and Christmas won't be disappointed. The increased production was apparently ordered just weeks after the system launched in March, and it means that Nintendo is now targeting a production run of 18 million consoles for the first full year of the Switch's lifespan.

Furthermore, some industry analysts believe that Nintendo is being intentionally conservative with such targets and may even be targeting 20 million units before the end of March, 2018. Kazunori Ito, an analyst at research firm Ibbotson Association Japan, goes as far as to state that Switch will sell 80 million units over its lifetime.

If these reports are to be believed, the Switch will smash the Wii U's total sales in a single year, and could end up being the Wii-style success that Nintendo is hoping for.
