Wow what a surprise. I'll pick this up on the Switch. I keep hearing about Symphonia, Abyss, and Vesperia are some of the best tales of games. I'm hoping the story is actually somewhat good. I've never gotten into a tales game proper because despite how good the gameplay is I can't put up with the mediocre 6/10 stories/characters that think they're an 8/10 at least. I tried getting into both abyss and Xillia but I found both to be pretty cliched from a narrative standpoint, with Xillia in particular having boring predictable characters, plot lines, and a pretty weak villain.
I highly doubt it. Publishers always spout this type of crap every gen because their ultimate goal is to spend less on shipping products and collect more from their bs games as a service model. What better way to achieve that goal than to strip ownership of games and literally turn them into a service
@justin233 same here. My main problem with walking sims is usually priced followed by lack of interactivity. If it were under $7 like sub surface circular I would buy this but when it costs as much as stardew valley, or enter the gungeon, both games with far more gameplay depth, variety, and hours of entertainment for the same price it becomes an unreasonable purchase for me.
It's tough because I want them to make more sequels but I also understand why they want to wow people. They made sequels to both gunstar heroes and guardian heroes and a lot of fans consider them to be inferior to the originals
Truth be told I'm with investors on Nintendo's online service. It will most likely fumble out of the gate despite having more than 10 years to learn from the competition, especially sincr Nintendo baffling thought it wad a good idea to tie voice chat to a mobile app instead of the console itself
@LegendOfPokemon I agree. Aftet I played the switch demo I ended up preordering the 3ds version instead. The smaller portability of the 3ds combined with the built in stylus control as well as the cheaper price point is what cause me to go for the 3ds version. (I'd much rather pay $40 than $50 for this game)
I'm not so sure about this one. The beat em up action along the with the sound effects seem weak.
@RusevDay same here. I Loved tower defense games as a kid but now I can't even maintain interest even for the best ones. I downloaded the pixel junk monsters 2 demo and briefly had fun for about the first 5 waves before I started to rapidly lose interest.
Truth be told I think pokemon needs to take a longer break. It blows my mind that people complain about yearly sequels with games like cod and ac meanwhile pokemon has been releasing same game after samey game on an almost annual basis since 2012. It seems ironic that fans demand a new pokemon game every year yet are disappointed when it doesn't change enough between entries.
Can't wait to play this on the go. The gameplay is phenomenal but the atmosphere of the game was truly breathtaking. One bit of advice is to start with the northern area first. The eastern area is a bit tough to start with.
@Liam_Doolan Thanks a bunch for making this review. I saw this game crop up on steam a while back but couldn't find any solid reviews. I'll probably pick it up during a sale a bit down the line.
Recently played through the Sushi Striker Demo on Switch. As great as that game looks on Switch I'd rather have the more convenient portability of the 3ds as well as the cheaper price point so I'll pick up the 3ds version. As for what I'll play this weekend I'll be going through the Octopath Traveler Demo finally and I'll play some Splatoon 2
@carlos82 I'm completely with you. I LOVE pixel art. That's why I'm so disappointed with most modern pixel art. Games that look as good as Shovel Knight, Fez, Hyper Light Drifter, Enter the Gungeon, Axiom Verge, Cave Story, Stardew Valley seem to be rare. As you said most devs are going for this cheap poorly done minimalist look that looks very unappealing.
@dres I don't have a problem with pixel art games or 8 bit games in general. I tend to prefer 16 bit games because the presentation is much better. Even though most indies are 1-3 people teams it's no excuse to have pixel art that looks this bad. Games like Retro City Rampage, Axiom Verge, Stardew Valley, Cave Story, and Downwell were all made largely by one person yet their pixel art doesn't look this bad. Heck even Atooi (formerly Renegade Kid) has better looking pixel art than this and I think that Atooi's pixel art is nowhere close to being amazing.
@carlos82 this a million times! Like I LOVE pixel art but I genuinely am disappointed with the pixel art of most Indies nowadays. It's like they put no time or effort into making their games actually look appealing. Instead they do a rough draft and call it a day. It's very ugly and disappointing
I can't believe I'm saying this but I feel like the Wii U eshop of all things is better than the Switch eshop. The eshop is far too cluttered with not enough ways to filter out the crap. I wish there was a category specifically for indies, neo geo games, similar to the wii u and 3ds eshops. Also as stated having and under $10 or $5 section without having to go to the search bar would be appreciated. Definitely agree about the recommending more titles from the same developer feature. Also the best sellers chart needs to be expanded because it definitely is a rich get richer type of situation. Ive had my switch since about march this year and 8-9 of the best selling games have remained unchanged.
Already have these preordered in the US. Almost have a complete Splatoon Amiibo set. Just missing the orange inkling squid (though truth be told it wouldn't kill me if I never got it)
Cool to see Daroach being added. Like others have said it looks a bit unfinished. Daroach is one of the only good things to come out of Squeak Squad imo (it's a mediocre kirby game truth be told)
I'll preorder this tomorrow. July is going to be expensive for me. (I have Octopath Traveler, Pearl & marina Amiibos, and now this game all coming the same month)
@shaneoh The new box art is done by Bengus ( a legendary former Capcom artist) but I do like the original art a bit more as kinu Nishimura is one of my favorite former Capcom artists.
"the 3DS is very much on our minds. Another reason is that this game requires two screens to play, which only the 3DS can do. Maybe another reason is that when we started developing this game, the Switch didn't exist."
Pretty much the reason why 3ds games are still being made. There are some things the 3ds can do that the switch can't. Really wish people would stop begging for non existent Switch ports or constantly disparaging the 3ds.
@diablo2 I feel the same way. I'm always asking myself why the 8-bit era specifically when the 16 bit era is a significant improvement over the 8 bit era.
@Supadav03 Thanks for the product recommendation. I'll pick up the one you mentioned as I'd rather pay $40 rather than $85 for functionally the same product.
I'll be getting the arms and dillon demos. I've been meaning to try out arms. It seems like there's not enough depth there in the combat but I'd love to be proven wrong.
I know there's going to be a whole lot of people mad about but I'm not one of them. If VC were on switch it would be the same old song and dance where nintendo dribbles out releases on the system until they forget vc is a thing after 2 years. The games would probably cost the same as they did on Wii, Wii U, 3ds. I would absolutely not be down to do this with Nintendo a 4th time. At least with the online service I'm getting a growing collection of games as part of the online fee. In addition there's always emulation on pc.
Kirishima just said what people have been trying to tell 3ds haters for months. Switch is too expensive and doesn't have enough games to act as a 3ds replacement for the average household. With 3ds demand still there as well as a massive back catalog it makes perfect sense to keep supporting the 3ds as an affordable budget option.
@Shiryu That would be wonderful! And I almost forgot about how bad the slowdown was on that game. My god did the ds almost die trying to keep up with that game.
Daroach is a pleasant surprise. Squead Squad is one of my least favorites but I always liked Daroach as a character. I'm a bit surprised at Dark Meta Knight as well as chosing Adeline over Ribbon but in hindsight the latter makes sense as there's already a painter ability in the game. Magalor, Tranaza, and Suzie were all expected but I'm pleasantly surprised at the inclusion of the Jambastion Trio
Going to play Disgaea 5 Complete Demo and then finally start up Splatoon 2. Almost done 100 percenting Star Allies, just need to finish up grinding out pieces for illustrations, beat Guest Star with the dream allies and finish up Ultimate choice on the final difficulty. Truth be told Ultimate choice has been disappointing. It's challenge is a far cry from other kirby games.
@Krisi I feel the same as well. Like it's so funny how people are like "ugh I can't bear to play on the 3ds now that I have a switch" when they were playing on the system just fine about a year ago. I would hate if these people played some ps1 games. I wonder if their eyes would fall out
@Pikachupwnage I wish I could heart your comment 1000 times. It's so frustrating that people want the 3ds to die. The system is still selling (heck it's expected to sell at least 4 million this financial year) and it's uncharacteristically being supported by Nintendo unlike how they typically throw the old system under the bus the moment new hardware comes out (look at the gbc going to the gba, gba going to ds, gamecube to wii and wii to wii u). Nothing for me this week but I will say this, the Switch Eshop is quickly becoming like steam in terms of number of releases each week. almost 20 just today. There's more than 600 titles on the shop and the switch is barely over a year old. In comparison it took the 3ds around 5-6 years to get 1200 titles and we're already half way there. I'm getting very concerned about the wave of releases constantly hitting the eshop
I'd buy Yokai Watch Busters. Truth be told it's one of the only games from this series that I'm interested in. I don't like the gameplay of the main entries.
