Originally published by Capcom for Nintendo GameCube and PlayStation 2, killer7 was a visually striking action-adventure developed by Suda51's Grasshopper Manufacture.
Rumoured for quite a while, but after 13 years NIS America have now announced that a remaster is underway and will be heading to Steam later this year.
Whilst versions for other platforms have not yet been announced, it seems quite likely that they will follow this initial release if demand warrants it.
Do you remember playing this on GameCube? Would you be interested in a port for Nintendo Switch? Let us know in the comments below.

Day 1 on Switch. My Gamecube discs won't last forever, but a Switch cartridge might. Hurry up e3!
Also a perfect excuse to repost this.
Ye me want
I thought it was pants but plenty of people seem to like it so, here's hoping it gets a wider release.
Nice, another one of those obscure GCN games that everyone on the Internet except me seems to have enjoyed, but no one has actually bought! It's like the reverse Nickelback!
First Ikaruga, now this... what's next, Cubivore?
cant wait to stream it like RE7... SMH
@burninmylight if you didn't play it first time around, then these ports are perfect for you
Didn't think I'd see that purple NintendoLife color again. Classic.
Never played this though. I miiiiight give it a chance if it comes to Switch... not quite sure yet.
@Shiryu Impossible at this moment.
While I can understand that this game certainly isn't for everyone, it is most definitely a game with a great story and wonderfully weird characters.
If anything, it offers a look into what ultimately drove Suda51 into making titles like the No More Heroes games. It's kind of a window towards the future.
And like the recently in an article mentioned Super Hot, this is also a thinking man's shooter, although of course not in the same way as the bullet time mechanics used by Super Hot.
@burninmylight Really? Ikaruga is one of the best bullet hell shooters ever made, so unless you don't like these types of games, I don't think it belongs in a list of "obscure games that nobody bought"...
Finally I can play this game. I never managed to track down a copy of the Gamecube Original.
Why???...
I love the game. It was the first title that got me hooked on Suda games. Still have the original GameCube version. Now if the port it to switch that would be cool.
Great! Now we just need Viewtiful Joe remasters...
@ThanosReXXX
Critical reception =/= commercial success
Also, Ikaruga only sold around 90,000 copies on the GCN, according to VGChartz. I stand by my original post. No one bought it.
One word: Capcom.
The game is far from being out of the Switch's league graphics-wise, but if I recall correctly this game was one of the "Capcom Five", as in, five games that were supposed to be GCN exclusives - and only P.N. 03 stayed on the Cube.
So yeah, a Switch port is far from being something we can take for granted.
@AlexSora89 can you really blame Capcom for not keeping 4 of the 5 games exclusive on the GameCube?
I mean come on dude. Sales on the cube were average at best. Capcom probably had a clause in the contract if sales targets were not met. Also I don't understand why people moaned about it at the time or in the future. If you had the software on GameCube why would you care if it was ported to other systems?
Viewtiful Joe remaster please!
I’m gonna have to get into PC gaming I guess...
I loved this game. And the gap since the GameCube days makes it a must buy.
Now I'm looking at viewtiful joe too...
Never played this on GCN, would love to try it on Switch. That needs to happen!
I don’t wanna day the cliched “this should be on Switch” line, but....
this should REALLY be on Switch.
I adore this insane game. Happy it's getting a remaster but would be ecstatic if it came back over to a Nintendo system.
The Silver Case remake started out on PC and then came to PS4 so I'm hoping the same will happen here (including a Switch version)
@burninmylight That doesn't exclude the game being one of the best bullet hell shooters ever made, and fans of the genre know this.
It could be a fact that bullet hell shooter fans represent only a minority in the entire demographic of gamers, so that could explain the sales part.
But it's not an obscure game, and another notable fact is that the game wasn't a GameCube original: it came from the Dreamcast, and back then the game was popular among fans already. Just ask @Shiryu...
The game was pretty nuts but I enjoyed it on GameCube!
Capcom hasn't made a single sensible decision regarding the Switch so far, but I hyper sprinkles HAVE A REALLY GOOD FEELING ABOUT THIS ONE. WEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHE!!!!
Yes!!!
Coming to not switch
@burninmylight
Custom Robo is next
I've been meaning to buy this on gamecube soon.
This games needs a remake, not remastered.
If this releases for Switch i will be ecstatic!This has got to be one of my all time favourite games!But what would be better?releasing this game and announcing a sequel.
I second viewtiful joe of the 5 projects to be remastered for switch... maybe also PN03
My first Suda game and I have been a fan ever since. Part of the ill-fated Capcom 5, it definitely delivered in my book. Still have my GCN copy. Really hope this is coming to Switch.
Didn't have the attention span for this one as a kid, but love love love the style. So excited to play it on Steam! Hopefully it comes to consoles, would be awesome to play on Switch once I get one.
@ThanosReXXX
I am well aware of these facts. They have absolutely zero bearing on my original post. It was a niche game that appeared on the failed Dreamcast, and it was a niche game that appeared on the failed GameCube (and later XBLA). The game is obscure. Please accept that, and stop associating that word with "bad." Many great games release every year that don't get the audience they deserve, and Ikaruga is just one.
@Yosher
Ohhh I didn't notice the color! Nice touch NLife
The best video game ever is back!
Instant buy on Switch. No-brainer, still one of my favourite SUDA 51 games, Gamecube games, and definitely among the most memorable games overall.
@burninmylight I actually still have all three games you mentioned.
Edit: I do remember a sales bin somewhere full of Ikaruga on GC though, at giveaway prices, and didn't get it on DC because I never had one.
Port to Switch and you have my money.
It's a weird niche game, I am sure a handful of people are excited about this though.
I liked this game but I don't see buying it again, the novelty of the story was what it was but I don't see playing through it again. There are other GCN games I would love to see like Eternal Darkness or Second Sight, and I would assume Beyond Good and Evil will probably get a re-make if and when the sequel comes out
@burninmylight I get the idea that you're feeling like I was either negative or aggressive towards you, and if so, then I want to make clear that this is not the case. Besides: if I didn't think I could have a normal discussion with you, I would have used far less text...
As for the game being obscure: that depends on how you look at it. It is pretty well known to people like me, who like this type of game, so it all depends on your point of view. Commercial success does not a good game make, and certainly not by default...
I never associated obscure with being bad though, so that part is a bit confusing to me, since your initial comment seemed to say exactly that, and you put it in the list with other games that you apparently don't seem to like, for whatever reason.
Ikaruga also wasn't nearly as obscure as either Killer 7 or Cubivore, and that part of your comment is what triggered me to respond to you, but no offense was meant.
I also wouldn't name the GameCube in the same sentence as the Dreamcast concerning the console failing. Yes, the GameCube definitely wasn't a huge success, but contrary to popular belief, it still made Nintendo a modest profit, whereas the Dreamcast was on the market FAR shorter, ultimately only cost money, making it a much greater failure (and this is coming from someone who still owns and dearly loves his Dreamcast), so there's quite a few degrees of separation there...
@ThanosReXXX
Well I apologize if I began getting a little aggressive in my replies. The Internet has taught me to be defensive in that way. Even though you said you were not associating obscure with bad, I feel like you think that I am. I am in no way saying any of the games I mentioned are bad games. I've never even played any of them, but I know Ikaruga is widely praised and is in the Heaven tier among schmup fans. That doesn't change the fact that it's obscure. You can use all the anecdotal evidence you want. The gaming community at large never owned it or played it, and has no idea what it is, then or now. Same thing with the other games.
Ikaruga has the benefit of being on XBLA, which helped give it a third life, and then a fourth on Steam, and now it just got a fifth by coming to Switch. k7 is just now getting its second. Let's not pretend like they are on the level of FF7 Remake or Wind Waker HD, or even Beyond Good & Evil. No one but the hardest of hardcore gamers have heard of these games, and no one saw these re-releases coming. I consider myself very lucky that I will finally have the chance to play them without needing to pay an exorbitant price.
As far as GameCube goes, you can debate with me about choice of words all you want, but it was a failure. C'mon man, do you really think Nintendo was cool with selling about 22 million of them while Sony's console sold seven times as much and the new kid on the block beats it out as well? Look at everything the Wii was about and you have your answer to that.
Also, k7 sold about .24 million across the GCN and PS2, according to VGChartz. Ikaruga is definitely the more fondly remembered game, and definitely more popular now thanks to its various ports, but k7 was the more popular game at retail. This is a fight among ants though, because they are both extremely OBSCURE!!!
@MikeW Just the mention of Viewtiful Joe makes my day. A 1+2 bundled release would be incredibly hard to resist.
I would like to add that a "GameCube Classics" line of Switch titles is a potential goldmine of both gaming goodness for us and profits for Nintendo.
@burninmylight No apologies needed, I just wanted to clarify (my own words).
Yes, I did think you seemed to imply that the three games you mentioned were bad. Why else say it like that? ("what's next, Cubivore?")
That's what apparently confused me, then.
And I did agree that the GameCube did less than stellar, but like I said: it still made Nintendo a small profit, so although a commercial failure, they were still able to use that profit to move on, so ultimately, it was only a small dent.
The Wii U for example, did far worse than the old GameCube. And so did the Dreamcast, so that's why I kind of wondered why you mentioned them in the same breath.
And what I say is not anecdotal, it's fact. Ikaruga is well known to fans of the genre. I've known about this game ever since it first arrived, and so do other people that are interested in these types of games.
I said or claimed nothing else than that, so I think that there is where you misunderstood me, and comparing it to completely different types of games makes no sense at all.
I could also browse through other categories/types of games and tell people about games that I don't play or that weren't huge commercial successes, but regardless of that, some of these titles still had a very dedicated following/fan base, and can also still be good or great games in their own genre. Nothing you or I say can change that fact.
PN07 for remaster next please!
@Rob3008 I second that.
Fun fact: the trailer footage is from an emulator. Check the Youtube comments for more info, anyone with experience using Dolphin will know that FPS counter.
oof
Never played he original. Love Suda games !! (Killer is dead remaster would also be amazing)
@Darlinfan
I'm not ignoring any context, because I'm the one who put the context in place with my original comment. You two are the ones who are ignoring that. So no sir, you don't get it, and you're acting like getting into this silly little syntax war is going to somehow change anything. Stop acting like I disrespected your maid of honor and that you must now somehow defend her with petty squabbles over what is ultimately nothing, especially if you're going to contradict yourself by admitting otherwise and making your post completely pointless.
@kobashi100
Well, by now Rayman Legends on Wii U stands out in infamy as the best (worst) example of how one game losing its exclusivity can act as a slippery slope. While the GameCube had it far easier than the WiiU, it wouldn't hurt the GCN if they could keep some of the exclusives. And of course, the only one that stayed on GCN was the one the other userbases envied us for the least. Still, some of these shenanigans definitely backfired.
However, the clause thing makes sense to me.
@ThanosReXXX
Thank you for your thoughtful reply. But as I said to @Darlinfan, don't waste my time with a war on syntax. I don't give a crap about how popular it is to fans of its genre over time. It sold poorly, it didn't obtain cult status outside of hardcore shmup fans, and it carries very little awareness outside of that genre Another re-release is not going to change that. That is obscure. I don't care how many times you all try to say "BUT IT'S POPULAR AMONG FANS OF THE GENRE!" That's not the point, and you're moving the goalposts I put up. Guess what? I knew about Ikaruga when it first arrived to. Why? Because we're both serious gaming enthusiasts, and we let few retail releases slip by us without being aware of them. We also represent a minority in the gaming community. This is what I mean by using anecdotal evidence. Don't forget that we're just mumbles in the jungle of shouts and screams, so stay humble.
And since we're still talking about the GCN, it may or may not have been profitable on its own, but the GBA is easily what kept Nintendo in the black. If it wasn't for that handheld, Nintendo would have been in real trouble. Wii U has absolutely nothing to do with this conversation and I fail to see what context it adds in mentioning it. Ikaruga and killer7 aren't on Wii U.
@burninmylight I didn't play this game either. Now it's another game to look forward to if it comes to Switch.
@Koudai1979 Now if we could just get Sega to re-release Skies of Arcadia Legends...
Nice to see some Gamecube era titles finally getting some love.
Capcom, quit screwing around & bring back Gotcha Force already!
@Darlinfan You remind me of my nephew. When he was little, his face would turn red with rage and tears would stream down his face, and he would poke out his bottom lip. All the while, he's trying so hard not to cry and claim he's not mad.
One of those games of my past I will probably get super cheap on a Steam sale - Not because I'll play it again, but just to have it.
No point in getting it on Switch or PS4 - just end up loosing it again.
Yessss... now the right time to play Ikaruga and Killer 7. Missed both on Gamecube.
@nab1 Still have my GCN originals, but would Switch in a heartbeat. Announce V3 also.
@RailX I have mine as well, but those games really need an official HD remaster
RE4 staying a GCN exclusive would have moved consoles, it was Game of the Year 2005. Porting it to PS2 ensured sales for Capcom, but that game was made for the GCN controller. I still want that dragon-rpg , the last of the five games, that never materialized.
@kobashi100, Heck Soul caliber 2 did better on gamecube than the other systems. It didn't stop Capcom from making soul caliber 3 exclusive to ps2 alone.
@Darlinfan
You tell me I'm projecting, but you're trying to make me sound like a pedo now, lol. And this is all because I called your little game "obscure."
Is this really what you want to do with your life?
@Darlinfan please watch the language
@Darlinfan So basically, you had nothing left regarding the original subject matter? Got it. Have a nice night, and may the rest of your shift go smoothly.
@N8tiveT3ch I'm with u. I still have my original copy for my gamecube. I do hope this comes to Switch, if not I will play it on gamecube when this releases to commemorate.
I hope they bring it to Switch, Gamecube version is too expensive now and 10 years ago. I re-entered gaming world too late -after abandoning it for 5 years- for some games, and this was one of them.
Day one if it's coming to Switch
@whanvee I see you're a man/woman of culture
