As a parent, zero chance I'm allowing my kids to brush their teeth near any electronics. We use a simple 2 minute hour glass, and the kids like to brush their teeth while watching the sand fall.
And then probably one of: Steamworld Quest - Been waiting awhile for this one. Yooka Laylee - a strong possibility at this price Terraria - Been waiting on splitscreen though.
@Anguspuss My 5 year old really enjoys ring fit and is able to follow the instructions pretty well.
My 3 year old's leg isn't quite big enough for the leg strap and so as he runs, it is always falling down. Also, he is not that good at following the instructions, so it takes awhile to jump over obstacles.
Oh and for the record, they don't play the story mode, they just do the mini games, rhythm games, and jogging sections. T'hose are the ones they like the best. The actual story mode is way too sophisticated for them at this time, especially considering their limited reading abilities.
My first exposure to programming was writing simple video games in BASIC when I was 10. Then I started writing custom NPCs / items in Graal (may be dating myself now). Now I'm a professional software engineer who develops applications for various clients (none of which are gaming related).
All of this to say, is that an easy learn to program your own video game, could be a simple and fun way to understand some programming fundamentals.
I originally planned on buying it soon, but then I remembered that I never did get DQ11. So I'm gonna wait for a sale on DQ11, and then by the time I'm finished with DQ11, then I'll re-evaluate picking up Xenoblade Chronicles. Plus, I also have the sequel, that I'm only about 5 hours into, so maybe I'll finish that one too. Once that's all done, it should be about time for Xenoblade to be on sale.
@sixrings I never said that there is anything wrong with better graphics. Better anything will make a game better. But the absence of high quality graphics, doesn't make a good game into a bad one.
But since you brought up my personal spending, I buy a lot of games for the Switch, and that's solely because it's portable. I had a Wii U and I might have bought < 10 games for it. On the Switch, I've got at least 30 mid to large budget titles. (We're not gonna talk about how many lower budget / roguelike indie games I've bought).
@Iulis84 I play games for the game, not the graphics. Clearly most reviewers felt the graphics were good enough for an inmersive and enjoyable experience. I play games, not specs, and still look forward to picking this up after I'm finished with Trials of mana.
@Kynwal I just recently bought my son a 2DS (man was that thing hard to find). If he can keep it in decent shape, I'll probably upgrade him to a Switch lite next year when he turns 7. But I'm also in the: "if Nintendo makes a pro version, he can have my old one" camp.
@Kynwal So annoying, but ultimately cheaper as my son will eventually get his own Switch and then I can just let him borrow the cartridges for all the games he likes to play.
@Tim2020 I'm definitely keeping a close eye on dungeons as well. My son (almost 6) has been really enjoying minecraft. I'm thinking he may also be interested in dungeons. But we'll see.
@Dringo Insightful post, but I have to disagree with Killer Instinct Gold being a bad game. That was a great improvement over the prior Killer Instincts and I played it for many years. Sure it was no Street Fighter, but it was arguably the best traditional fighting game on the N64.
I hate paying full price for all these games. I miss the Best Buy gamer's club... I'll wait and see if they do more of those NSO vouchers. But I also need to wait for more information and possibly reviews for this particular game. I'm hoping this will be more like the originals, but maybe with some fun improvements.
@TJWorks I popped in to ask this same question. I'm itching to play a different fighting game other than Smash. What are people playing? Is it DB Fighter Z? Is it Pokken? I know it's not Ultra Street Fighter 2, because I own it, and tried to find a match a couple days ago for 30 minutes.
@TheNewButler The new Nintendo releases the game first, then takes feedback after. Like them having to patch in the ability to play with friends in Mario Maker 2. Or patch in the ability to back up your island in Animal Crossing.
The real question: I've got Xenoblade Chronicles 2 chilling in my backlog (I may be about 5 hours in), should I finish that before getting Xenoblade Chronicles Def Edition, or get the definitive edition and then finish its sequel?
These are PS1 games. There is no reason they can't port this to Switch. Seems like a missed opportunity. Everyone knows that the people that buy old games most likely own a Switch.
Looks like I won't be buying many new games for the remainder of the year (based on the current list). That said, there are plenty of older games still on my backlog:
Astral Chain Link's Awakening Yooka Laylee: Impossible Lair Divinity Original Sin 2 Dark Souls Three Houses DLC Chapter
@tendonerd my only problem with arcade sticks is the joy stick. Pulling off qcf or dpunch motions are very hard for me on an arcade stick but easy as butter on a normal controller.
@Alztru I just want a dedicated smash button and turn off the "smash via control stick" option. In other words, make the controls more like Rivals of aether.
@TAndvig Nintendo recently adapted this idea of finishing games before announcing them. Only exceptions being Pokémon, Metroid Prime 4, Breath of the wild 2, and Animal crossing. Pretty much every other 1st party game was released within 6 months of announcing it.
@rjejr Keep in mind there are reports that the PS5 will be in limited supply, and that Series X is also worried about a lack of games at launch due to the virus. At the end of the day, coronavirus is going to ruin 2020 for gaming.
@SKTTR was Revenant saga one of their games? I think that was my first and only of their rpgs. It was great value for money at the time as I'm pretty sure it was released back in 2017 for the Switch. Now, I've got old final fantasy games I can play at a similar price as I never did play any final fantasy game after 7. Not to mention the ridiculous backlog of other games I've got besides.
@Razer I think the major repercussion from PS5 / Series X will be fewer "major" third party games coming to the Switch. The Switch is obviously missing out on a bunch now, but once the 3rd parties start targeting the PS5 / Series X as the baseline, expect those titles to be even more scarce on the Switch. That said, the Switch's larger install base will ensure that there are plenty of lower budget third party games being developed for the Switch first, and later ported to the other consoles. And quite frankly, I've been far more interested in the lower budget titles than the big budget titles. So even after I purchase a next gen console, I'll still be doing most of my gaming on the Switch.
@Dman10 Your conclusion is correct, but your reasoning is debatable. The types of gamers that are most likely to buy a pac man game own a Switch. Playstation / Xbox aren't passing it up because of Plus / Gamepass. They're passing it up because they are more interested in other games.
I play online smash somewhat frequently, and most matches feel great for me. Every now and then, there is a lag spike, but that's a rare experience for me. I mostly just stick to Battle Arenas so maybe that's the difference?
@TriforceBun I've been playing Mario since I was a wee lad, and now every morning I inject a mushroom and jump on some heads to start my day. Other gaming influences have found myself going into strangers houses and opening their chests / drawers.
I don't think I saw any mention of the difficulty in this review. From the demo, a lot of people had concerns about how easy it was. Does the game get harder as you get further in?
This is such shady marketing. I bought Sonic & Sonic 2, because those were the glory days (and the spin / drop dash in the OG Sonic makes it much more tolerable).
Not sure yet, if I'm interested in the arcade game (never played it, so I have no nostalgia), but for a $5 sale, I'll definitely buy it and try it.
If they just need money, make a kickstarter and be done with it. Don't play games with people: "Buy our stuff and just maybe we'll think about you giving you something you want"
