Certainly no Octopath, but it should be a fun time anyway. I will wait for reviews, but I expect to be an early purchaser for this. Although... with Monster Hunter Rise and Bowser's Fury releasing at the same time, I may be a later adopter.
I may eventually snag origami king. I actually prefer the Mario & Luigi series over the paper Mario series and hope we see some of those come to the Switch.
Looks like a PS2 game in terms of character design and I'm okay with that. I thoroughly enjoyed the first demo (haven't tried the second). If demo progress carries over, I may start the second demo near the release date. Otherwise, I plan on picking this up within the first week.
Only one I played was Revenant Saga when it first released on the Switch back in 2017. It's not a particularly remarkable game but it was one of very few JRpgs available on the Switch at that time. I enjoyed my time with it, but now there are just sooooo many options. If you want a cheap rpg that'll last 30-40 hours, it's not bad price to pay. But if you can splurge more Octopath Traveler and Dragon Quest 11 are far better games. Bravely default 2 is also around the corner, and then there's the breath of fire games on the NSO. Plus we've also got all those final fantasy games and romancing saga games.
@Hikingguy That is my biggest gripe with the NES/SNES titles. The need to manually check if the game can be played. From a software perspective, it would be sooooo easy to automatically validate a user's subscription on every login, such that the NES/SNES games will always work if accessed within 7 days of last login. Instead, if you randomly decide to play a game on a trip where you have no internet access, you're out of luck.
There are tons of unique subtleties even among the "metroidvania" genre. Salt and Sanctuary plays way different from Guacamelee. And both of those play way different from Hollow Knight. And both of those play way different than Monster Sanctuary.
The fact that it's a metroidvania only really tells you that you'll be gaining some skills to access previously inaccessible areas. Combat, story, and how you progress may differ significantly from game to game.
@Arsene I too have been playing botw for 3 years. But I've only put about 30 hours into it so far. I tend to get going for a bit, then a shiny new game distracts me and I don't come back to it for several months.
My most played Switch title released this year was Trials of Mana. But I haven't purchased Hades yet. And I'm slowly working my way through Mario 3D All Stars. Got about 50 stars in Mario 64.
I also agree with the sentiment that this list is way too overwhelming. At a minimum, you should only include games that have been reviewed.
@RiderSkyward I've only played for about an hour so far (enough to beat two champions) and outside of the champions, most battles I can complete in 2 - 3 turns. Definitely not a slog, but again, I'm still in the early game. Where I spend most of my time is figuring out where to allocate those skill points, there are soooo many options. It probably would be a good idea for me to take a notepad and map out how I want to progress the skill tree so I'm not looking at every skill everytime I get a skill point. 😀
Final Fantasy started off as a Nintendo title. I wonder why we haven't received updates on that non-Nintendo series. And with Sephiroth in Smash, seems like we should be racking up news as to why we should buy a PS4.
@KingMike Most of the IPs are unused though. They can sell it or lend it if they don't want to handle development/porting process themselves. It may not be as simple as in the case of Glover, but should still be doable.
The complexity of Nintendo's games betrays its true demographic. As an outsider looking in, Nintendo's games are family friendly. As an actual gamer, many of Nintendo's games have a difficulty level that children won't be able to overcome.
Breath of the Wild Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze Astral Chain
These games are clearly made with the adult gamer in mind.
The biggest difference (some may say appeal) is that you can play most Nintendo games and it's okay to have a child watch you play.
All games don't need to be graphic, sexual stories.
@Judgedean I've been holding off on buying Hades due to my massive backlog (I've recently picked Breath of the Wild back up, after not touching it for years, with the hopes of finishing it before checking out Calamity)
As long as you can go from vanilla SF 6 to Ultra SF 6 without having to purchase an entirely new game at full price, I'm okay with it. Each version is a year apart from the other. Typically, this would help bring in new players as time passes. With these leaks though.... who knows. Vanilla could be DOA if everyone waits for Super or Ultra.
I really liked the presentation of that trailer. My interest is piqued, but I'll be waiting for reviews. Ittle dew and Oceanhorn weren't my cup of tea.
@vincentgoodwin My 6 year old son has never played Zelda before. Was that his first experience or did also play breath of the wild? My son mostly does Minecraft and Mario Odyssey.
@ozwally Witcher 3 is a actually a purchase I regret. I would've been better off just reading the book. The game itself is too overwhelming. Breath of the wild is more like a breath of fresh air.
I played and beat Revenant Saga when it first came out on Switch (2017). At the time, there weren't a lot of 2D rpgs to choose from and it was a fun enough time. The story was relatively engaging and the battles were pretty standard.
Now though, there are so many games to choose from, nothing really makes it stand out. If you lack funds, then sure, grab it for cheap. You could do worse.
Quality titles get picked up by reviewers. If it then gets reviewed well, then it's got a fair shot and selling well. Titles lacking in quality or that seem generic or substandard probably won't be reviewed and therefore it probably won't sell well.

@RupeeClock Doesn't have to be a remake, could just be a port.
Re: Re-Release Of N64 Classic Glover Appears To Be Taking Shape, Kickstarter Teased
@Vertigoat everything no, but we at least need:
Mystical Ninja (and its sequel)
Penny Racers
Quest 64
Hexen
Gauntlet 64
Bomberman 64 (best bomberman to date, imo)
Ogre Battle 64
Flying Dragon
Space Station Silicon Valley
Turok Rage Wars (probably coming soon, tbh)
Fighter's Destiny 2 (original not needed)
Snowboard Kids 2 (original optional)
I think that covers a good chunk of the obscure N64 games worth playing in 202X.

Space station silicon valley, when?

@MEGAMAN_D N64 games on NSO with online functionality would definitely be a win even if it was just the base game in the case of No Mercy.
