Someone in the live chat called this game "woke Rocket League," which admittedly got a good laugh out of me.
This just isn't something I'm particularly interested in, and I imagine my arms would get really tired after just a few minutes of playing it. You know Nintendo is gonna charge $60 at the bare minimum for this game, probably $70. Hard pass.
A wheelchair game where you were doing something different than playing bog-standard basketball could have been cool. But it's literally just vanilla basketbal, which feels very uninspired for Nintendo. It's Metroid Prime Blast Ball all over again, but instead of that being a side mode, it's the whole game.
Thanks so much for the interest in my channel! Yeah, that link is broken, and I haven't been able to figure out now to edit my Nintendo Life profile info on mobile. I think it's because my channel name used to be "The_Nintentrovert" before changing it to just "Nintentrovert."
For press who got to play this game, there were multiple pages of characters to choose from on the selection menu, but this included all the costume variants that were listed separately. Presumably, this is just for the demo, and in the final game, a costume sub-menu will appear when you click the character. So, don't get your hopes up. The Treehouse team is probably playing the same, or a similar, demo build with separate slots for costumes.
This might not be the best article to comment this under, but I just had a thought regarding the price of games:
Over the past 8 years, Nintendo has taken for granted that the only people who have been paying full price to double-dip on Wii U games are their hardcore audience of only 16 million people who actually bought a Wii U and will buy anything if it has a Nintendo logo on it. They failed to take in account the other 130 million users who aren't used to getting ripped off because they bought all these Wii U ports for the first time on Switch as if it were a brand-new game.
Now, Nintendo is starting to treat their general audience the same way they've been treating their hardcore fans. But the general consumer doesn't have the same level of loyalty, so instead of gritting and bearing it like Nintendo diehard are accustomed to doing, those 130 million+ people are PO'd.
And it's reached a tipping point even for me, as someone who was one of those Nintendo shills who bought every $60 port like Donkey Kong Country Returns HD and Luigi's Mansion 2 HD. I regret that I've been an enabler to Nintendo's behavior.
They're not starting this generation out on the right foot. This is the most frustrated I've been with Nintendo since the Wii U days.
@anoyonmus Nah, that mentality just enables companies like Nintendo to get away with this sort of thing. It's like saying, "Hey, that guy may have murdered someone, but at least he didn't kill a million people!" Instead of saying, "Things could be worse," we should instead be saying, "Things could be better."
These new modes seem kinda shallow and not as worthwhile as if they had given us new boards. I've probably put like 40+ hours into Jamboree and haven't even touched the Paratroopa Flight School or other side games, so I'm not frothing at the mouth for more motion controlled casual stuff.
If I'm being honest, the Kirby and the Forgotten Land expansion likewise looks kind of shallow. It seems to just be repurposing old content and adding new paths to existing levels, rather than giving us anything brand-new. These expansions don't seem to be on the same level as Nintendo's remasters and Deluxe ports like the addition of Bowser's Fury or the Magolor Epilogue.
I'd love to be proven wrong, though. If these do provide a substantial amount of new content, it gives me renewed hope that Pikmin 4 could get updated with a new winter level. Nintendo still markets that game to this day, and it would look great in 4k, 60 FPS so you know Miyamoto has them working on it. A Switch 2 version is pretty much a guarantee, but whether it gets new content or not, we'll have to wait and see. Proper co-op through the whole campaign and more battle mode / mission content wpipd be great, too.
Nice! This is a welcome improvement. Button remapping is especially huge, but the rewind feature is nice, too. (Now I don't even NEED the Ocarina in Majora's Mask, suckers!) I've never seen the appeal of CRT filters, though. I like my video games the same way I like to eat bread--without fuzz all over it.
Now, they just need to update it so N64 games are compatible with the Save Data Pak and NSO Game Boy Color connectivity.
I noticed in the chat overview video, the backgrounds were cropped out for the people video chatting together without there being a green screen behind them. I wasn't sure if that was a bit of false advertising, bit it's nice to have official confirmation that it can do that automatically. Sounds like that and the face-tracking are handled by the console itself and not the camera, which is kind of nuts.
I'm fine with the price of the console, given what a massive hardware leap this is.
But charging for a tech demo, physical games costing up to $80, and the Switch 2 not being compatible with my 1.5 TB microSD card meaning I'll have to shell out for another one? Yeah, there was a lot here that's really rubbed me the wrong way.
This is the first time I've felt angry at Nintendo in 5 years--the last time being all their dumb limited-time games back in 2020. Other than that, I couldn't have been happier as a consumer during the Switch era. Some games were a bit overpriced, like the HD ports, but the quality was there so I accepted it. But it's starring to get indefensible.
They definitely aren't starting this new generation off on the right foot. But hey, the good news is that maybe the OG Nintendo Switch will become the bestselling console of all-time after all, considering many were turned off by the pricing.
Hopefully, Nintendo course corrects before it's too late.
So now we know why Super Mario 3D All-Stars was a limited-time release. This tells me that we will likely get other platforms like Wii added to NSO eventually, with Super Mario Galaxy 1 and 2. That might still be several years off, though.
While I'm extremely happy to finally be getting GameCube NSO, I'm a bit disappointed that:
1. This evidently means we're not getting the definitive versions of Wind Waker or Twilight Princess with wide-screen support, improved textures, and quality-of-life improvements like the Swift Sail and improved Triforce shard quest. I'm curious if the Tingle Tuner will function somehow?
2. No mention of Mario Kart: Double Dash or Super Smash Bros. Melee. How do you NOT launch GameCube NSO with MELE??? That would have been so hype. Melee with online and being able to take it on the go would have sold Switch 2 units all by itself. But we still don't even have Smash Bros. 64 and it's really frustrating. What's the deal, Nintendo??
I'm happy I'll finally get to experience Chibi-Robo, but I think it could have looked gorgeous with a complete ground-up remake. Same for Luigi's Mansion--looking forward to playing it again, but a remake in 4k with raytracing and the works, as well as the 3DS versions added achievement system, improved second quest, and co-op would have been so good.
Hopefully we see more obscure stuff come to the service in the future. I'd love to replay Wario World after all these years. Maybe eventually we'll get the OG Thousand-Year Door, which I honestly think I prefer over the remake due to the script differences. I never played Star Fox Adventures, but as someone who doesn't like the on-rails arcade-style gameplay, I think a more on-foot Zelda style of adventure will really appeal to me.
I still have my bongos and a dance pad, so if they ever port Donkey Kong Jungle Beat or DDR: Mario Mix, I'll be able to play them with my GameCube controller adapter, which is hilarious.
Maybe we can get third-party games like Viewtiful Joe, Pac-Man World 3 (still hoping 2 gets a remake instead), and more. Or, if those companies want to release those games separately on the eShop, that's fine too.
I hope I'm able to upgrade my third-party Switch 1 games, whether for free or with a paid update. Sonic X Shadow honestly looks fine to me, but I'm thinking games like A Hat in Time or Spyro Reignited Trilogy which have serious framerate issues and low resolutions.
We have no first-party Nintendo games coming before the release of Switch 2 in June, so that's a two-month game drought. That is, unless Nintendo pulls a Xenoblade X and announces more titles out of the blue. Yoshi's Woolly World could be announced and released this month via the new Nintendo Today app, and Kirby Planet Robobot or Metroid Prime 2 and 3 HD could be announced and released the following month. But that would beg the question: Why weren't they in the March Direct?
You should be able to upgrade Kirby and the Forgotten Land for $10 without having to get the expansion if you don't want it. The Expansion just kind of looks like repurposed content and not a whole lot of new assets as far as I can tell, so I'm not all that interested yet.
Yeah, as someone who invested in a 1.5 TB microSD card that's only about 1/3rd of the way full, I'm pretty PO'd about this, not gonna lie. Bit of a sour note in the middle of this Direct.
Been really looking forward to picking this game up and experiencing a piece of 3D platforming history... Granted, that's also how I felt about Glover. I beat the first world of Glover and the first level in the Circus world, and I've gotta say--no, sir, I don't like it. I've heard that apparently the Glover port just isn't great, so maybe I'd like it better on original hardware, I dunno. The control scheme just feels very clunky; why is it inverted when I jump on top of the ball? I feel the same way about Tomb Raider, I find it clunky even with the remake's "modern" controls. Hopefully Croc updates the tank controls better than Lara Croft did.
Although I'd love to be able to emulate games like Melee and Double-Dash on my Switch 2 with added online features and portability (I legit might cry if this is announced), I hope this doesn't mean Nintendo is done remaking GameCube games. Wind Waker HD is the definitive way to experience the game. It's my favorite Zelda of all-time, but I've only ever played the Wii U version and don't think I would like the original nearly as much without the Swift Sail. Wide-screen also greatly improves the experience.
Luigi's Mansion and Chibi-Robo could also look gorgeous with a fresh new coat of paint. And unless they drop Wii games on NSO too, we still won't be able to play Metroid Prime 3 on a modern console ahead of 4's release.
Usually, I don't mind leaks and generally enjoy them, as they can help generate excitement during periods of no news. But when it's within hours of the potential announcement, that's where I'd rather have not seen it. I'm not upset at NateTheHate, as I figured he'd do a podcast just before the Direct. But I wish Nintendo Life had gone with a more vague title like, "NateTheHate Teases Feature Coming to NSO." To keep us from getting spoiled right before the show.
Nice. I had a feeling this would be a longer one, as I believe the January 2017 event went at least an hour. I wish I predicted that in the video I uploaded to my channel where I go over my hopes and expectations, but I forgot. Exciting times!
While we're on the subject of Kirby's Adventure and also GBA Kirby, can we get Nightmare in Dream Land on NSO soon, please? I've never played it, but Kirby's Adventure is one of my favorite Kirby games, despite the really bad framerate. I would very much like to play the remake for the first time. It might become the definitive version for me if it runs smoothly.
I'd love if someone could help point me in the direction of the sort of game I'm asking for.
That new Tomagotchi game looks kinda cool. I don't know if Stardew Valley would be for me--I'm not a fan of the pixel art aesthetic. I know it's more of a farming sim, but I think you can do other stuff too, right? I bought Fantasy Life before the 3DS eShop closed but have yet to play it; I hear it's one of the best 3DS games, but I imagine it's more of an RPG than a true life sim, right? I had My Sims on Wii but had no idea what I was doing, so I've contemplated getting the Switch version and taking another crack at it. Maybe I would be able to appreciate it now as an adult. I also think that new LEGO Fortnite thing looks really interesting where you're like in a town...maybe I should try that one out?
I dunno. What do you guys think?
Maybe what I'm looking for is called "real life," and I simply need to go outside and touch grass. I hear that real life has a pretty large open-world where you can buy furniture, change your clothes, and work literally any occupation you want.
My experience with Tomodachi Life is... complicated.
I remember back around 2013 when I first found about about the Japanese-exclusive "Tomodachi Collection: New Life." I thought a life sim game where you play as your Mii character sounded incredible, but at the time, there was no word on a Western localization. I actually sent a lengthy email to Nintendo of America expressing my interest in the product and petitioning that the game gets an international release. I like to think that maybe I played some small hand in us finally getting this game in the States. (Yeah, it's a long shot, but let me have this one.)
I was elated when the game was eventually announced to be releasing worldwide, and I remember the game got a free eShop demo like a week before the full release. I played that demo a bunch and really enjoyed my time with it.
But then the full game came out, and...it felt like I had already gotten my fill from the demo. The full game didn't offer enough to really jeep me engaged beyond what I experienced in the demo. See, when I sent that email to NoA, I was under the impression that this was a third-person game where you actually got to control your Mii and run around and do various things, maybe work an odd job or something, I dunno.
I was pretty disappointed when I came to the realization that I was actually an omnipotent entity called "Aaron's lookalike" (my real name is Aaron btw, lol) who just kind of curiously observes his Miis like you would an ant farm. It was too much of a hands-off experience for me. It felt less like a life sim and more like...a pet sim. I was similarly underwhelmed the first time I tried a Sims game. I want to be in control of the action, not just watching it.
Much like how Nintendo marketed 1-2 Switch as a video game that's all game and no video... Tomodachi Life, to me, feels like a video game that's all video and no game. I guess I want something more like Animal Crossing, where I get to run around as the Villager and actually do stuff. Yet, I don't really care for Animal Crossing that much either, as I just found the daily grind to be boring and monotonous.
Maybe someone can recommend a good life sim that I would enjoy. I want something with the house and clothing customization options of Tomodachi and Animal Crossing, but where I can earn money by doing various jobs. Like, I dunno, maybe I could work as a chef like in Order-Up or have an occupation as a cab driver or police officer or fireman or any number of jobs with their own unique gameplay experience. A game where I can buy my own car and freely drive in it to the shopping mall or to school or the library or the bowling alley or wherever. Something more stimulating than just digging for fossils and hitting rocks with a shovel and pulling weeds. I find that incredibly boring. Does such a game exist?
I'm not getting my hopes up too high, but this new Tomodachi does seem to have a full 360-degree camera, so that makes me wonder whether I might actually get to play as my Mii instead of being a disembodied godlike figure this time.
I think the North American box art is maybe a bit overcrowded, to the point where it's hard to tell what exactly you're looking at. I think I prefer the more simple Japanese and European ones, which do a good job showcasing what scenarios your Miis can find themselves in without bogging down the casual consumer with an overload of information.
Not a super original rumor, we've been hearing rumors about it being a "cast" button that lets you stream to the TV for months now. If it requires two systems, that does make it more complicated, but it also wouldn't make sense. Pac-Man Vs. in Namco Museum already does this, no special "Cast" button required. Just put a Switch in the dock, have another in Handheld mode, and connect them via local wireless.
The OP does says that interacting between two Nintendo Switch systems is "one function," implying there are more. So I could see that maybe being a more convoluted feature while also offering users the ability to stream to a TV with a single system. I don't think having two systems will be mandatory; it might hurt Switch 2 sales because people might decide the console is too expensive if they don't want to trade in their OG Switch and miss out on features.
Sony games that would feel right at home on Nintendo: Ape Escape, Sackboy / Little Big Planet, Sly Cooper, Jak and Daxter, Astro Bot, Medieval.
Make it happen, Sony! (Then, I can sell my PS5 and go back to being a single-console gamer, lol.)
Also, I'm not a big superhero guy, but having stuff with massive mainstream appeal like Spiderman and Wolverine exclusively on PlayStation seems like it would severely limit the sales potential. I don't know that it would happen but 2018's Spiderman on Switch 2 would sell millions.
Nintendo doesn't like to deliberately tease announcements. Sakurai may be a powerful figure at Nintento, but I think even he would get chastised if he was dropping a hint to get people into a frenzy. I think this could be Sakurai just as surprised as the rest of us to see a Nintendo Direct this close to the Switch 2 one. I'm not gonna read too deep into it, I'm interpreting this as like, "Huh, that's curious."
That's not to say I don't think there's a chance we could see Kid Icarus tomorrow. But if we do, Sakurai's tweet is unrelated. If anything, his tweet might make it less likely, because he would probably know if his game was going to be in a Direct, meaning he would know not to tease anything. If Nintendo told him, "Hey, we have a Nintendo Direct coming up that we're going to feature your game in," they would probably want him to stay radio silent about it beforehand.
I'm don't follow competitive gaming, so I'm not familiar with this individual, but this is immensely sad to hear.
He's not the only Smash player to attempt suicide, but fortunately ZeRo's attempt failed as well. He's now in the best physical and mental shape of his life, and I'm so happy to see his personal growth.
As @Altaria_97 said, things can and will get better. I know that sounds cliché, but I can attest that this is indeed true. I never seriously considered self-harm, mostly due to my religious beliefs and never wanting to put my family through that kind of hurt. But I did experience bouts of suicidal ideation. I didn't want to die, but I didn't want to be alive, either. Every day felt like a waking nightmare, living with undiagnosed OCD and intrusive thoughts.
I spent about a year in virtual therapy with an OCD specialist during the pandemic and had ups and downs in recovery. When I eventually hit a brick wall and wasn't getting any better, I reluctantly took medication, despite being scared of potential side effects. Taking SSRI was a life-changer, and I can honestly say the struggles I used to go through feel mostly like a distant memory. These past three years are the happiest I've been in a long time, after probably about 8 years of what felt like a living hell.
I used to experience maybe one day of relief every two weeks, and those two weeks were like a nightmare. Now, the opposite is true; I have the occasional bad day, which is just a natural part of life, but I'd say 90% of the time I have good days. And the bad days aren't nearly as bad as they used to be.
Help is available. Don't be afraid to reach out and open up to a credible therapist. Unless you explicitly tell them you have a plan to hurt somebody, it is illegal for them to relay the information you confide in them to ANYONE. Be aware of red flags when finding a therapist, though--every therapist's end goal should be for you to eventually no longer need their services. If your start feeling like you can't cope without your therapist, something is wrong; they shouldn't become a crutch, and they might be making you dependent so they can keep taking your money.
You may feel worthless now, but I promise that you would be even more worthless if you were dead. You think your family will be better off without you? Consider the funeral expenses, the emotional trauma of friends and parents and kids and other loved ones. Not to mention the lifelong scarring of whoever finds you.
But as long as there is breath in your lungs, you have an opportunity to do good things in this world. When you get better, you'll be able to help so many other people overcome their own struggles with depression and anxiety. You can be a volunteer, you can donate to charity--there's lots of worthwhile things you can do while you're alive.
You aren't worthless. And regardless of what today's cancel culture society will teach you, I believe that no human being is beyond redemption. The mistakes you've made in the past are irrelevant if you're genuinely striving to be a better person. Forgive yourself.
Religion can be a great source of comfort; if not for my Christian faith, I might not be here. But if you need to seek worldly help from a mental health professional, that doesn't mean your faith is weak. Take advantage of all the opportunities God gives you--including seeking medicinal aid.
@EVIL-C 99% of Conservatives would agree with you that fascism is evil, that much isn't divisive. But acting like everyone on the Right is one is where the problems lie.
Okay okay, this is my last comment, I swear! I promise to stop spamming the comments!
But now that I've actually watched the trailer, I see that he doesn't make the "waka-waka" noise when he eats the pellets. His model also looks a little off to me. Like, the mouth is too wide and the proportions of his limbs seem a bit weird. Hopefully this is early footage subject to change. If not... my disappointment is immeasurable and my day is ruined.
(Edit: Nvm, it's out now, so probably final. Downloading it right now to make sure.)
...Y'know, I never really thought I was on the spectrum before now, but this 30-second footage of yellow munchy man has floored me to such an unhealthy degree I'm beginning to question it. 😆
I'm only just now learning there was a Dole promotion so I didn't get to experience it, but that's fun. Would've made more sense to have happened a few years ago when Banana Mania was new, though.
Anyways, here's to getting all my hopes up for Pac-Man World 2 Re-Pac being announced in one of the two upcoming Nintendo Directs! If it doesn't happen, I'm going to have an emotional episode.
LET'S GOOOOO, FINALLY ANOTHER REASON TO KEEP LIVING, I WOULD TAKE A BULLET FOR THAT YELLOW CIRCLE AND NOW HE'S IN MONKEY GAME WITH THE BLUE SPIKY GUY, DREAMS DO COME TRUE!!!!!!!!!!
I understand where you're coming from. For me personally, there are a lot of remakes that I would 100% consider the definitive versions. As a big 3D platformer buff, I think the Crash N. Sane Trilogy, Spyro Reignited Trilogy, and Pac-Man World Re-Pac are fundamentally perfect. SpongeBob: Battle for Bikini Bottom Rehydrated had its flaws, and many say they prefer the 2003 original, but I would have a very hard time going back to the older graphics. The remake is just such a beautiful visual overhaul, and they did fix most of the kinks via patches.
Thousand-Year Door fixes some things, but they censored parts of the localization, text scrolls slower, and even the battles feel slower. I probably do still prefer the GameCube version. So, it can definitely go either way, but there are plenty of remakes I do love.
That said, I think it's always good to preserve the originals. I grew up with the PS1 Crash Bandicoot Trilogy, so as good and as faithful as the remake is, it would be nice if I had a way to revisit the 90's classics on modern hardware for nostalgia sake. Throw all three games on the eShop for $20 a pop, and I'd buy it. I like having both options. But admittedly, if I can play the original version on my Switch or Switch 2, then I feel like there's less need for a remake.
I wouldn't necessarily call it a waste of development time, though, depending on what it is. For example, if we were to get GameCube games on NSO, I still think a ground-up remake of Twilight Princess and the original Luigi's Mansion could look absolutely breathtaking with the extra horsepower of Switch 2.
In the case of Paper Mario or even Crash Bandicoot, remakes also give companies the opportunity to re-learn a working formula they abandoned a decade or two ago. Would Crash 4 be as good as it was if ActiVision hadn't first copied the Naughty Dog originals? I doubt it. Aonuma talked about how remaking Wind Waker influenced the development of Breath of the Wild. And now that TTYD has been remade, I bet we'll finally get a new Paper Mario game that feels like the originals in the next couple years.
There's an argument to be made that remakes are lazy efforts. But, I think they can also be an important learning tool. Like, "Our games have been sucking for the past 20 years, what was it about the old ones that made them so special?" Then you remake the old ones and say, "Oh, now I get what the fans were saying. We were doing the physics engine all wrong. The level design wasn't this intuitive. This narrative is way more enjoyable." Then, they can apply that knowledge moving forward.
Yeah, I was really disturbed when I found out about that. I try not to make assumptions about people, but King gives major creep vibes. I wouldn't be surprised if some really bad stuff comes out about him. He's also very inflammatory and divisive when it comes to politics, so I'm no fan of his all-around. It's fine to have your opinions, I just hate when people generalize and demonize an entire group of people.
I'm not a horror expert, but as an outsider, the genre feels very problematic to me. Some of the stuff I frankly question how it gets legally published/produced for the way it depicts minors. Not just that part in the "It" book you reference, but I also think to that one particular scene in "The Exorcist" involving Regan, who is only like 12 or 13. I had to read that book in college and was appalled. In some ways, the movie takes it even further.
I get that horror movies are supposed to make you feel uncomfortable and often go for "shock value," but some things are shocking/uncomfortable for a reason and better left alone. It's sick. Everyone should feel disgusted by the abuse of children; it doesn't make you a "good" writer for being willing to go there, and it's not the sort of thing we should let ourselves become desensitized to through the consumption of entertainment. There's nothing entertaining about that.
It's one thing if it's done to raise awareness with the aim of preventing exploitation, but it's another thing entirely when the author is like, "Hey, wouldn't this be fun to include? They'll never see this one coming!"
Dang, I would have loved this--if handled properly. Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl and Nickelodeon Kart Racers are fun alternatives to Mario Kart and Smash Bros. utilizing other IP that I enjoy. I would have wanted this game and MultiVersus to primarily focus on Cartoon Network properties. I want to race down the cul de sac from Ed Edd n' Eddy as Grim from Billy & Mandy, while Chowder and Blooregard Q. Kazoo try to snipe me with King Ramses' slab from Courage the Cowardly Dog.
With movie remakes--like, let's say, all of Disney's live-action movies, the original animated features are readily accessible on streaming services like Disney+. Remakes of video games are exciting to me because it may be the only way to officially experience a classic on modern hardware. When it comes to people asking for remakes of games already on Switch like the 2D Metroid games, I agree with you, though.
Another thing is that the live-action Disney movies fail to capture the heart and soul of the originals and, frankly, look worse. Sometimes, HD remakes of games come out and they're worse than the original, and people say they would have preferred a straight port. But more often than not, remakes are the definitive version that look significantly better and add several quality-of-life improvements.
Lastly, video game technology isn't all that old, so the hardware ages much more quickly. A video game from the 1980's doesn't do much to visually impress by today's standards with its 8-bit graphics, 4:3 aspect ratio, and chiptune music. But an 80's movie in comparison, like The Little Mermaid, still looks really good. That said, if a studio were to take the time to digitally trace every frame of The Little Mermaid by hand and implement modern lighting/shading techniques and other VFX, I think people would love that.
If Racing Transformed could have Wreck-It Ralph as a guest character, can we get Agent Stone in this one? Make him officially canon in the Sonic game universe. This game is about different worlds colliding, right? Come on, who's with me?
I just don't see the point of doing two separate SKU's, especially since Switch 2 is backwards-compatible and can possibly even upscale Switch 1 games. Metroid has never been a franchise that sells super well to begin with, so I imagine one version will gather dust on store shelves. If the Switch 2 is easy to get your hands on at launch, then I could see the Switch 2 copies selling pretty well but retailers having a hard time getting rid of the Switch 1 copies. If the Switch 2 is hard to come by at launch, then the opposite could be true; by the time people get their hands on the new console, they may have already bought the last-gen version of Prime 4 and not feel inclined to double-dip.
For Breath of the Wild, a multiplatform release was understandable, since Switch was not backwards-compatible. For Twilight Princess, it made less sense to release on both, but I suppose they had already promised GameCube owners that the game was coming but still wanted to take advantage of the Wii's new motion controls.
In this case, we know for certain Prime 4 is at least coming to the OG Nintendo Switch; otherwise, that last Direct was very misleading. I kinda hope Prime 4's place in the Switch 2 Direct is just to show how much better the game looks when upscaled and not that it will be a separate release. I don't want the Switch 2 launch game to be something I can also play on my current-gen Switch. That would really dissuade me from picking the console up day one, unless they have another compelling game at launch.
I think I would legit cry tears of joy if Nintendo confirms GameCube games for NSO. I think it will happen eventually, but right now just feels too soon, though.
We've gotten lots of GameCube remakes this generation like Thousand-Year Door, Metroid Prime, and (to a lesser extent) Pikmin 1 and 2. I think there's still room for more remakes. Imagine how gorgeous remakes of Chibi-Robo, the original Luigi's Mansion, and Twilight Princess could look--especially with the added horsepower of Switch 2 for added realism. I would also much rather have the HD port of Wind Waker with quality of life improvements as opposed to the GameCube original. Then there's Metroid Prime 2, and I know some people have been wanting an HD remake of F-Zero GX.
I think Nintendo should get those remakes out of the way first so they aren't competing with themselves in terms of sales. Granted, they could do what they've done with Super Mario RPG and Mario vs Donkey Kong and just withhold releasing those games on NSO so you can only buy the full-priced remakes, but I get why that practice might feel scummy for some people.
Once they've remade all those games, then they can add GameCube to the NSO library with stuff they would never bother to remaster like Melee, Double-Dash, Mario Party 4-7, Wario Ware: Mega Party Games, Wario World, Kirby Air Ride, Four Swords Adventures, Star Fox Adventure, Donkey Kong Jungle Beat (wireless bongo peripheral??) etc. It would be great to have emulated versions of all those games with added online functionality.
@Sylamp They've been rolling out a new console library for NSO every couple of years. If we get, say, GameCube games this year and DS games two years from now, that would mean Wii games coming out four years from now (2029) and 3DS games coming out six years from now (2031). That would be 20 years after the 3DS initially released and 23 years after the Wii first released. I think that's plenty of time for them to be considered "retro" consoles.
It's also far enough away that Nintendo has plenty of time to remake/remaster games like Kid Icarus Uprising, Mario 3D Land, Link Between Worlds, Kirby's Epic Yarn, Triple Deluxe, Planet Robobot, etc. before offering the original version of those games to us again via NSO.
In honor of Mar10 Day, I decided to dedicate March to "Mario Month" on my channel. I'm currently playing through 3D World, and afterward, the plan is to play through Super Mario Bros. Wonder and Super Mario Land 2.
I mean... if Microsoft is still planning to bring their Xbox IP to Switch 2 anyways, I feel no incentive to buy this. I never got a Steam Deck or a PS Portal, so unless this thing is able to launch Steam and give you access to that whole library as well as compatability with PlayStation cloud streaming, this is a hard pass for me. Will still be neat to see the last of the "big three" finally release their own handheld, but I think the window of opportunity for such a system is long passed.
As a consumer, I really appreciate Microsoft's willingness to go multiplatform with all their properties. Cuphead on Switch felt like such an unrealistic pipe dream and is still one of the most hype Switch moments for me personally. I'm grateful to them for what they've been doing. But from a business perspective, it seems like they're just shooting themselves in the foot if they want to remain in the console race.

Re: Hands On: 'Drag x Drive' Is Fantastic, But Is It Destined To Be Switch 2's ARMS?
Re: Mario Kart World's Character Select Screen Teases Absolutely Huge Roster
@Dark_Isatari
Thanks so much for the interest in my channel! Yeah, that link is broken, and I haven't been able to figure out now to edit my Nintendo Life profile info on mobile. I think it's because my channel name used to be "The_Nintentrovert" before changing it to just "Nintentrovert."
Here's a non-broken link for you: https://youtube.com/@nintentrovert?si=VwG2S9x6V3sTmd2G
Re: Mario Kart World's Character Select Screen Teases Absolutely Huge Roster
For press who got to play this game, there were multiple pages of characters to choose from on the selection menu, but this included all the costume variants that were listed separately. Presumably, this is just for the demo, and in the final game, a costume sub-menu will appear when you click the character. So, don't get your hopes up. The Treehouse team is probably playing the same, or a similar, demo build with separate slots for costumes.
Re: Nintendo Says Switch 2 Will Have "Improved" Wireless Connectivity
Re: Hands On: Should 'Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour' Be A Pack-In Game?
@anoyonmus Nah, that mentality just enables companies like Nintendo to get away with this sort of thing. It's like saying, "Hey, that guy may have murdered someone, but at least he didn't kill a million people!" Instead of saying, "Things could be worse," we should instead be saying, "Things could be better."
Re: Hands-On: Finally, Super Mario Party Jamboree Lets Me Scream At Bowser
Re: Surprise! The N64 App Is Also Getting Some Enhancements On Switch 2
Re: Nvidia: Switch 2 Has "10x The Graphics Performance Of The Nintendo Switch"
I noticed in the chat overview video, the backgrounds were cropped out for the people video chatting together without there being a green screen behind them. I wasn't sure if that was a bit of false advertising, bit it's nice to have official confirmation that it can do that automatically. Sounds like that and the face-tracking are handled by the console itself and not the camera, which is kind of nuts.
Re: Hands On: Should 'Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour' Be A Pack-In Game?
Re: GameCube Games Confirmed For Nintendo Switch Online On Switch 2
Re: Sega Announces Five Titles For Switch 2 "Launch Window"
I hope I'm able to upgrade my third-party Switch 1 games, whether for free or with a paid update. Sonic X Shadow honestly looks fine to me, but I'm thinking games like A Hat in Time or Spyro Reignited Trilogy which have serious framerate issues and low resolutions.
Re: Oops, Yoshi's Woolly World Featured In Switch 2's "Compatible Switch Games"
We have no first-party Nintendo games coming before the release of Switch 2 in June, so that's a two-month game drought. That is, unless Nintendo pulls a Xenoblade X and announces more titles out of the blue. Yoshi's Woolly World could be announced and released this month via the new Nintendo Today app, and Kirby Planet Robobot or Metroid Prime 2 and 3 HD could be announced and released the following month. But that would beg the question: Why weren't they in the March Direct?
Re: Nintendo Switch 2 Edition Game Upgrade Pack Prices Seemingly Revealed (Japan)
You should be able to upgrade Kirby and the Forgotten Land for $10 without having to get the expansion if you don't want it. The Expansion just kind of looks like repurposed content and not a whole lot of new assets as far as I can tell, so I'm not all that interested yet.
Re: Standard Micro SD Cards Won't Work On Nintendo Switch 2
Yeah, as someone who invested in a 1.5 TB microSD card that's only about 1/3rd of the way full, I'm pretty PO'd about this, not gonna lie. Bit of a sour note in the middle of this Direct.
Re: Review: Croc: Legend Of The Gobbos (Switch) - A Solid, If Unspectacular Retro Adventure
Re: Rumour: GameCube Revival Planned For Nintendo Switch Online
Re: Rumour: GameCube Revival Planned For Nintendo Switch Online
Usually, I don't mind leaks and generally enjoy them, as they can help generate excitement during periods of no news. But when it's within hours of the potential announcement, that's where I'd rather have not seen it. I'm not upset at NateTheHate, as I figured he'd do a podcast just before the Direct. But I wish Nintendo Life had gone with a more vague title like, "NateTheHate Teases Feature Coming to NSO." To keep us from getting spoiled right before the show.
Re: The Duration Of Tomorrow's Nintendo Switch 2 Direct Has Been Confirmed
Nice. I had a feeling this would be a longer one, as I believe the January 2017 event went at least an hour. I wish I predicted that in the video I uploaded to my channel where I go over my hopes and expectations, but I forgot. Exciting times!
Re: Switch Online's Missions & Rewards Adds Classic Kirby Icons
While we're on the subject of Kirby's Adventure and also GBA Kirby, can we get Nightmare in Dream Land on NSO soon, please? I've never played it, but Kirby's Adventure is one of my favorite Kirby games, despite the really bad framerate. I would very much like to play the remake for the first time. It might become the definitive version for me if it runs smoothly.
Re: Hang On, Are People More Excited For Tomodachi Life Than Switch 2?
@-wc- When I've taken my laxative, the number "2" becomes a huge source of excitement for me.
Re: Hang On, Are People More Excited For Tomodachi Life Than Switch 2?
(2/2)
Re: Hang On, Are People More Excited For Tomodachi Life Than Switch 2?
Re: Poll: Box Art Brawl: Tomodachi Life
I think the North American box art is maybe a bit overcrowded, to the point where it's hard to tell what exactly you're looking at. I think I prefer the more simple Japanese and European ones, which do a good job showcasing what scenarios your Miis can find themselves in without bogging down the casual consumer with an overload of information.
Re: Rumour: New Switch 2 Rumour Makes Wild Claim About Mysterious 'C' Button
I would kill for a Nintendo Land port, though.
Re: 'My Nintendo' App Icon Spotted, But Will It Come To The West?
@Markiemania95 Is this the app that keeps a log of all your play times across Switch, Wii U, and 3DS? If so, I'd love to see it come stateward.
Re: Sony's Back On Switch With A Delightful New PSP Remaster
Re: Nintendo Has Sneakily Confirmed The Switch 2's Mysterious 'C' Button
What if it's not a C but actually just an image of a magnet and has to do with the magnetic JoyCons attaching lol.
Re: Random: Sakurai Sends Fans Into Meltdown Ahead Of Switch Direct
Edit: I think this aged pretty well.
Re: Super Smash Bros. Melee Player Abdulaziz "Hax$" Al-Yami Has Died
Much love. God bless. ❤️

@Wisestfool Hey, hey, hey! This is a family site! You can't be talking about slapping your monkey here!
Re: Pac-Man DLC Launches For Super Monkey Ball Banana Rumble Alongside Version 2.20 Update
@NintonicGamer It is, I meant to say Pac-Man World 2, my bad. I've edited my comment.
Re: Pac-Man DLC Launches For Super Monkey Ball Banana Rumble Alongside Version 2.20 Update
Re: Pac-Man DLC Launches For Super Monkey Ball Banana Rumble Alongside Version 2.20 Update
Re: Pac-Man DLC Launches For Super Monkey Ball Banana Rumble Alongside Version 2.20 Update
LET'S GOOOOO, FINALLY ANOTHER REASON TO KEEP LIVING, I WOULD TAKE A BULLET FOR THAT YELLOW CIRCLE AND NOW HE'S IN MONKEY GAME WITH THE BLUE SPIKY GUY, DREAMS DO COME TRUE!!!!!!!!!!

Re: New Nintendo Patent Is All About 2D Visuals, But Don't Jump To Any Remake Conclusions
@Durians
Re: Random: Not Even Horror Maestro Stephen King Can Crack A Good Pokémon Joke
@TimelessJubilee

Re: New Nintendo Patent Is All About 2D Visuals, But Don't Jump To Any Remake Conclusions
@Durians
Re: New Nintendo Patent Is All About 2D Visuals, But Don't Jump To Any Remake Conclusions
@LastFootnote But it is legal, and if Nintendo doesn't patent it, someone else will. That's just the nature of it. Not really Nintendo's fault.
Re: Minecraft Is Getting A Graphics Upgrade
Didn't they already update the graphics to this game years ago? I distinctly remember like a realistic texture pack or something.

Re: Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds Reveals "Most Popular Characters" From Network Test
If Racing Transformed could have Wreck-It Ralph as a guest character, can we get Agent Stone in this one? Make him officially canon in the Sonic game universe. This game is about different worlds colliding, right? Come on, who's with me?
Re: Nintendo Music Drops Three More Albums, Here's Every Song Included
Some third-party music that will probably get pulled from the service in a few years, nice.
Re: Talking Point: Will Metroid Prime 4 Get A Switch 2 Release?
Re: Switch 2 GameCube Controller Rumours Resurface Following New Nintendo Filing
Re: Switch 2 GameCube Controller Rumours Resurface Following New Nintendo Filing
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (15th March)
In honor of Mar10 Day, I decided to dedicate March to "Mario Month" on my channel. I'm currently playing through 3D World, and afterward, the plan is to play through Super Mario Bros. Wonder and Super Mario Land 2.

Re: Random: The "Grail" Of Sonic Merch Pops Up On eBay With Insane Price Tag
I mean, people auction off unique Cheeto's shapes for more than this, so nothing surprises me anymore.
(Edit: @WhiteTrashGuy just barely beat me to it, lol. I was specifically thinking of the Pokémon one, too, but there are plenty of other examples.)
Here's hoping my YouTube channel takes off, so I can get sent stuff like this from companies that I can auction off for a bajillion dollars.
Re: Rumour: Xbox Expected To Join Switch 2 With A New Handheld This Year
I mean... if Microsoft is still planning to bring their Xbox IP to Switch 2 anyways, I feel no incentive to buy this.
