With another week comes another set of Nintendo Download Update details for Europe, and this time around there are some rather tempting options on both Wii U and 3DS. The home console has a long awaited platforming arrival along with some other interesting options, while both Virtual Consoles are offering quality games. There are a number of strong discounts to consider, too, so let's get to the details.
Wii U eShop
Super Meat Boy (Blitworks, €11.20 / £10.40 until 26th May, normally €14.00 / £13.00) - After being originally planned for WiiWare before the services' restrictions helped to scupper the idea, Team Meat's iconic title has finally made its way to Nintendo hardware. Brutal difficulty but tight, satisfying platfoming are hallmarks of this one, and we gave it a strong recommendation in our Super Meat Boy review.
Color Symphony 2 (Remimory, €9.99 / £7.99) - A rather intriguing puzzle platformer that's previously made its mark on PC, this utilises changes in the colour of the stage to add and remove platforms and obstacles. The concept looks similar in principle to Runbow, albeit slower paced and with a different emphasis in its gameplay; we'll bring you a review soon.
PIXEL SLIME U (RCMADIAX, €2.99 / £2.69) - This budget title utilises a single button for jumping an dodging obstacles, with the green blob in question moving automatically. It's a score chaser with a few twists throughout its 40 levels, but a few issues meant we stopped just short of giving a recommendation in our Pixel Slime U review.
Wii U Virtual Console
Mario Strikers Charged Football (Nintendo, €19.99 / £17.99) - A game that helped solidify the reputation of Next Level Games, and notable for supporting decent online play on Wii (which is unlikely to be supported here), this wacky take on football incorporates typical Mario shenanigans with solid arcade gameplay. We gave this a strong recommendation in our original Mario Strikers Charged Football review.
Wii U DLC
LEGO MARVEL'S Avengers: All-New, All-Different Doctor Strange Pack (WB Games, €2.99/ £2.50)
Wii U eShop Temporary Discounts
Resident Evil Revelations (Capcom, €9.99 / £7.99 until 26th May, normally €49.99 / £39.99)
DuckTales: Remastered (Capcom, €5.99 / £4.79 until 26th May, normally €14.99 / £11.99)
Dungeons & Dragons: Chronicles of Mystara (Capcom, €4.94 / £3.95 until 26th May, normally €14.99 / £11.99)
Word Search by POWGI (Lightwood Games, €5.99 / £4.49 until 19th May, normally €7.99 / £5.99)
STEEL RIVALS (nuGAME, €4.99 / £4.49 until 19th May, normally €6.99 / £5.99)
3DS eShop
WordsUp! Academy (CoderChild, €2.99/ £2.69) - The 3DS has some solid options in terms of word games, and CoderChild is now making this pitch with a title that offers six different modes and multiple languages, with the added bonus of online leaderboards. We'll use our words to let you know what we think in a review.
New Nintendo 3DS Virtual Console
Contra III: The Alien Wars (Konami, €7.99 / £7.19) — Originally known in Europe as Super Probotector: Alien Rebels, the U.S. version arrives in Europe once again on Nintendo's portable. It has plenty of manic run and gun action either in solo or co-op play, and is a stand-out action game from the Super NES era. We gave this an explosive recommendation in our Contra III: The Alien Wars review.
3DS eShop Temporary Discounts
Resident Evil Revelations (Capcom, €8.99 / £7.49 until 26th May, normally €29.99 / £24.99)
Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D (Capcom, €3.99 / £3.59 until 26th May, normally €9.99 / £8.99)
Super Street Fighter IV 3D (Capcom, €7.99 / £7.19 until 26th May, normally €19.99 / £17.99)
Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy (Capcom, €14.99 / £12.49 until 26th May, normally €29.99 / £24.99)
Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Dual Destinies (Capcom, €9.99 / £7.99 until 26th May, normally €24.99 / £19.99)
Terraria (505 Games, €14.99 / £12.74 until 26th May, normally €19.99 / £16.99)
2 Fast 4 Gnomz (QubicGames, €2.99 / £2.69 until 9th June, normally €4.99 / £4.49)
AiRace Speed (QubicGames, €2.39 / £2.10 until 9th June, normally €3.49 / £3.10)

Goosebumps: The Game (GameMill, €15.99 / £12.49 until 13th June, normally €24.99 / £19.99)

I still need to pick up Pheonix Wright Dual Destinies so that looks like a bargain to me.
There's some good sales going on there, I may even double dip on Resident Evil Revelations for the Wii U for HD.
Think i'll have to get the Ace Attorney Trilogy at that price ! already played through them years ago but it would be nice to have them on the 3DS, they're such fantastic games
Haha Mario Strikers was so much fun back in the early Wii days!
Mario Strikers Charged Football at €20 is a complete rip-off! You can buy it easily for less than €5. It would be fine for the more rare games but not for titles that are common as muck. They need to slap themselves out of it.
Definitely Ace Attorney Trilogy (half price!) and Contra III for me. Then FE: Fates next week. Can't wait
It will probaly be Contra III as I love contra games they are so late 80's early 90's in every way. Too bad the series kinda died after the release of contra 4 for the DS (excelent game btw it's not wayforwards effort that ruined it)
Nice to see more Wii VC, hopefully that trend will continue.
I found a copy of Mario Strikers Charged for €4 or €5. I'd recommend having a look around for it as it's still reasonably common!
@The_BAAD_Man Exactly what I said.
Wish we could get these Wii games: Super Paper Mario, Battalion Wars 2, Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn, Okami, Little King's Story, The Last Story
@SLIGEACH_EIRE Touché!
Wow! Contra III! Sweet, was worried Snes games on 3DS would fizz out right away but that's a decent sign.
@Oubie i'd welcome all of those, especially Fire Emblem:Radiant Dawn, as it is so hard to find for a decent price nowadays, i still don't understand why we can't have Gamecube vc games, guess they're leaving it for the NX, at least i hope they'll finally give us it on the NX lol
@Toadie First of all: Hi there fellow Toad
Indeed, some of those games are hard to find for a decent price. I'd like to play The Last Story with the GamePad. A sequel would be so nice, lots of potential.
Mario strikers charged was great but most of its charm was found online. Chances of me buying it for anything more than a 5 buck game are low without it.
Resident Evil Revelations for the Wii U should also net 60 gold coins on MyNintendo too as they are calculated on the original price rather than the discounted price, almost worth double dipping just for that!
@Oubie haha hello, i always liked the idea of Toad having his own rival to mimic Wario/Waluigi so that's what i chose for my profile lol
I really hope if the NX does have a Virtual Console they at least start from where the Wii U is and they don't start releasing the games from scratch again ! it takes waaay too long for them to build up a good library of games, look how slow they are at re-releasing Wii games, but even though waiting for certain games is frustrating, i do love playing these classic games on the Wii U, being able to play them on the gamepad is awesome
@Toadie Haha wow, you put so much thought into this! I like it!
I think they need to give the Virtual Console system a complete overhaul. It worked the first time on the Wii, but I think nowadays we can't keep getting the (same) games over and over again in a period of 4/5 years.
Nothing for me. If I didn't already have Super Meat Boy PC and the Phoenix Wright games, then I would have got them this week.
I've owned Super Meat Boy ever since i made a steam account lol! Nothing for me this week.
Super Meat Boy is a fantastic game. It's difficult to see why it would sell now though, when the majority of us already owns it on other systems... for what... 5 or more years?
Super Mario Strikers is ridiculous without online support.
@BensonUii I don't need to wait for a sale. I bought it back when it came out on Wii. Another thing, there's no online now. No Metroid Prime Trilogy shouldn't be €60 on the eShop. The reason it's so high on places like Ebay is because Nintendo didn't do a large enough print run. And it does matter. Why would anybody pay €20 for a digital code code that has no online now when they can buy it for a quarter of that price if not less? And if you don't like it, sell it on or give it a friend. You can't do that with digital games.
Does anyone know if Contra 3 has download play co-op?
Super C does, so this should.
Naan nothing for me this week either.
Isn't that the the Mario football game with that special shot so you could score crazy amount of goals making it too easy or is that the gamecube one?
I once bought Mario Strikers in disc format for less than £10...
Had to get the disc exchanged three times before demanding my money back.
super meat boy! played 2-3 levels once a couple of years ago, very excited about this! Maybe ducktales. I LOVE PLATFORMERS
let's see how many hours i can put into the witch n hero 2 demo
Shame that SMB is with the crappy new music instead of original soundtrack.
Capcom games again for sale, shame no new games from Capcom coming up. They should work on the Virtual Console to add more oldies.
@jump I did! No regrets! 😀
@Kolzig Capcon are busy with monster hunter NX and Resident Evil NX...
Nothing off the top of the barrel again this week.
Uncharted 4 for me this week!
@Toadie It's slightly cheaper on iOS, if you have that.
If you have not already, pick up the Phoenix Wright games!
@VanillaLake I'll second that! Phoenix Wright games rock!
@Oubie I'd like to see the return of games from the Mega Drive and Master System return to the virtual console too. Maybe Gameboy ones as well for good measure.
Nothing again but 1 Wii game is better than no VC at all!
@wazlon Nintendo should focus on releasing VC games on both consoles now because NX won't be release until one year later.
Super Meat Boy if it's £10.40.
I'm considering getting Resident Evil for gold coins 😂
Also, I'm disappointed that Fire Emblem Fates price is €45 (for a single game) and not €40, specially when you consider there are two versions and a third DLC path.
@Moon : Unfortunately, SNES games do not support Download Play (Super Mario Kart didn't have it). Which is a shame considering that Nintendo are charging the same amount for the multiplayer-capable equivalent on Wii U.
@khululy There is still Contra Rebirth on WiiWare. You need to get that, excellent game!
@sillygostly Cheers for the response. That really sucks. Don't suppose you know if you can play locally with two copies of the game?
So jealous!
I'm skipping PS this gen so it'll be a long while before I can play Uncharted 4.
Contra 3 is an amazing game... but it's also developed by Konami, and Konami is the worst, so I won't be getting it and supporting that sad excuse for a company.
Oh, and [removed]
@NicolausCamp: We all love Konami, but please watch your language - Octane
Great discounts there! That discount for ducktales remastered looks tempting, I'll probably grab it
@BensonUii: Metroid Prime Trilogy launched at a discounted price (9,99€) like most of the early Wii releases for Wii U (Super Mario Galaxy 2) and went up to 19,99€ a few weeks later.
@NicolausCamp Well I agree with your sentiment, but it is published by Nintendo here and not Developed by current Konami and I love me some Super Castlevania and Contra so I might have to do a bit of sinning but overall, [removed]!
@khululy: Same goes for you; Please watch your language - Octane
@Mahe Man I missed Rebirth and I do not own a WiiU so i doubt i can still get it but it looks great.
Man, I hope North America gets Phoenix Wright Trilogy half off this week. I've been waiting for that deal since the game first released.
Super Meat Boy n Mario Strikers for me this week.
So basically.... wait for Fire Emblem: Fates next week?
Mario Super Sluggers might have opened my wallet, but gonna keep the padlock on it I suppose.
@Moon Nope. No multiplayer whatsoever. If Nintendo had incorporated local multiplayer, then Download Play would almost certainly have been an option considering the miniscule file size of the SNES roms.
D&D on WiiU and Ace Attorney Trilogy for me on Thursday I think.
Have never played an Ace Attorney game in my life, not a massive fan of visual novel games but at that price for 3 of them I'll give it a go!
Dungeons & Dragons sounds cool!
There's no way I'm paying £13 (or £10 for that matter) for a 6 year old game even if Super Meat Boy is new to Nintendo systems. That's an utter disgrace. I did think about giving it a look but only as long as the price was right, as it happens the price is very, very wrong.
Just an import copy of Disney Art Academy for me when it's releases this Friday (in NA) - couldn't hold out til the EU July release due to excitement.
@ledreppe Uncharted 4 for me, too.
Oh hey. I get to save money again this week.
Just letting any 3DS owners thinking of buying RESIDENT EVIL REVELATIONS on sale; It takes up 25,799 BLOCKS of memory !
Yes, a whopping 25,799 !!!
Check out those SD Cards etc.
I'm genuinely not sure why Zelda: OoT 3D has never had a discount for 3DS. Could anyone offer a possible explanation?
@khululy You don't have a Wii either? Contra Rebirth is on the original WiiWare, doesn't require a Wii U.
@VanillaLake Totally agree with you there, Nintendo could fill their E3 direct with a load of VC releases - it's better than just Zelda U.
Wish we'd get another Mario Strikers some time.
@readyletsgo
..great choices, 3 awesome aces and 2 awesome arcade brawlers..have fun..
@SH007ME thumbs up
Ahhh! Please tell me that North America will get Mario Strikers Charged sometime soon!
Here was one hoping for Pinball Arcade wich was released last week in USA,.. hopefully next week then.
Nintendo should really release something on the wiiu, not many fans will stay in a dry dessert ^^
Mario Strikers without online? No thanks...
wrong SNES series third installment.
Just got Duck Tales and Resident Evil Mercenaries on sale as no point having Resi Merc physical as you can't delete your save data anyway.
