Over the past few days, Nintendo has been using social media to remind Switch owners about Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl. These titles are remakes of the Nintendo DS classics and will be arriving later this year on 19th November.
In its latest tweet, the company has now asked Pokémon trainers what creatures they'll be adding to their party - while highlighting Shinx, one of the many pocket monsters who reside in the Sinnoh region.
Of course, the image itself has once again become a talking point - with our very own Nintendo Life video producer Jon Cartwright noting how the attached screenshot is "absolutely" an old build. As we've previously mentioned, the graphics appear to have been slightly improved based on footage in the recent Switch OLED trailer.
Visuals aside, we're curious to know ourselves what Pokémon you'll be using in this upcoming adventure? Will you be picking the same starter and party? Or will this be your first time playing these entries? Leave a comment down below.

The three starters, Luxray, Staraptor, Garchomp
I mean, it says Pokemon on it so I'm probably gonna buy it. I know, I'm the reason we can't have nice things.
Piplup.
It will evolved until become Empoleon.
Still unsure if I'll pick this one up. I'll wait for reviews. Either Pokémon is not the same or I've outgrown it... =/
@Chocobo_Shepherd You're not wrong about that second part, but at least you admit it. Kudos and here's to you enjoying the game if you do decide to buy it.
Never played the games before, but as for a starter I'm going with monke.
Infernape, Gardevoir, Garchomp )
Infernape for nostalgia’s sake. Might recreate my party from Pearl actually, so I’d need a Luxray, Staraptor, Quagsire, Lucario and well, Palkia.
I have a theory about Diamond and Pearl. My theory is that, due to the selection of Pokémon available in the early routes, I estimate that over 90% of players will add Shinx into their team lineup. My reasoning for this is because Shinx is basically the coolest Pokémon available early on, and remains the coolest available Pokémon for a good while.
I haven't ever spoken to a D/P player who didn't use Shinx. I certainly did.
@EarthboundBenjy Shinx and Starly might be popular but they aren’t quite Bidoof, the ultimate HM slave and therefore part of 99.9% of parties.
I'm hoping we'll be able to get the regional variants in these, I think I'll rock it with a few of those, and start with the char
For me, it'll be Empoleon, Staraptor, Garchomp, Lucario, Gardevoir and Dialga. Was Tropius in these games? If so I use it as my 6th pokemon. I'll likely send either Staraptor or Tropius to a box when I get Dialga.
I remember having Tree Bowser, Gastrodon, Fire Pony (moveset fixed in Platinum), Icy Ghost Lady, Obligatory Dragon and obviously the best and most useful Sinnoh mon, DELELE WHOOOOOOP on my Platinum team.
@Diddy64 I remember Tropius was in the swamp in Platinum.
I suppose that depends. Are they adding pokemon from later gens? I kinda doubt it considering the level of laziness they've displayed in every other aspect of this production. Otherwise I don't think I'll be picking it up.
@Chocobo_Shepherd I think the bigger issue is that the mainline games are less a flagship series and more so a minor cog in a multimedia franchise. So don't beat yourself up 😛
@EarthboundBenjy I honestly think Luxray is pretty overrated. That didn't stop me from using it, obviously 😛
Depends how soon we can transfer mon in from home. I’ve got shiny starters waiting to go.
@Aerona If anything, they'll probably keep the original Dex intact for the main game and expand with other gens mons in the post game, like they did with ORAS. They always do that, for better or worse. In FRLG you couldn't even evolve your Golbat before post game.
I left my two cents about Dewgong. And how if I'll be using him if they actually put them in the game. And all they ever use him for is for decoration. Like what is it I'm sure they have decorations of him and Pokemon sword and shield, Pokemon unite uses him as water fountain decorations, they use him in advertisements too. Maybe they should give him a buff and finally put him back in the game
None, as these look like very cheap cash grabs.
Infernape
Luxray
Floatzel
Togekiss
Rhyperior
Drapion
I’ll try to use stuff I never used before. Of which Sinnoh has several.
Maybe Finneon and Drapion?
God, that art style is hideous. You know what would be dope, a hand drawn art style like cuphead. Pokemon tries nothing new with the art style
If I’m getting it I’m going piplup, shinx (or maybe electivire), gible, gligar, probably Lucario as always and I’m not sure who else
Unlike most people out there, the graphics are fine to me...yes the characters look...weird, but I understand why they went with that. I'm more worried about the content, and I get the feeling that I'm skipping out on this despite 4th gen being one of my favorites when I got back into the series with Platinum. Aside from spinoffs, I think I'm just done with Pokemon in general. Sun/Moon was "meh", the sequels I didn't even bother, same with the Let's Go games...Sword/Shield was mediocre...even the expansions were just...there.
It's a skip for me - graphics too abhorrent to bother (Overworld). I rarely say this, but for Pokémon games, the graphics are simply of massive importance to me, as it's what I'm staring at most of the time while waiting for the poor animations to play out or walking longer distances.
I'll use the ones that I will use.
I don't plan out things before I play, that sounds boring.
@RenanKJ I agree, this game has a terrible Pokédex-almost no fire Pokémon, not enough legendaries. Black 2 and X/Y had an excellent selection, but this game was terrible in comparison. Unless they seriously upgrade the Pokédex, this is a NO BUY!
I will catch the one I'm gonna catch in the moment. I'm not taking a competetive team through the campaign so why plan it? Just gonna experience the game, not pre-plan it.
this game features my favourite pokemon, shellos so no doubt i'll be taking another one along for the ride
No nintendo. No GameFreak. Not this time. Im done with these mediocre games
Shuckle, Shuckle, Shuckle, Shuckle, Shuckle and Shuckle..
I generally won’t train up a Pokémon that I had already trained in the past, but I do love Togekiss. I might try breeding some eggs and see if I can hatch me a shiny Togepi to transfer to Shining Pearl.
Wild shiny encounters seem to be disproportionately high in Sword/Shield, not that I am complaining.
I also intend to train a Kricketune and Chatot. Not sure if I’ll bother with any of the starters. Maybe Piplup for old time’s sake, but my favourite fully evolved Gen IV starter is Infernape. I’ve never picked Turtwig in any of my Gen IV playthroughs, even though I think Torterra is cool conceptually (but I never particularly liked any of its family’s designs).
I would also like Yanmega and/or Weavile on my team.
I also have a shiny red Shellos from Pearl. Maybe I ought to finally transfer it over so it can have its time in the sun after 14 gruelling years in PC box purgatory.
Empoleon, Staraptor, Luxray, Roserade. I'll see about the remaining two
Gonna do what I always do since I started replaying games 2 years ago and go with a team I normally wouldn’t use.
So purugly, electivire, kricketune, vespiqueen, mismagius and honchkrow.
@CheekyZelda "Pokemon tries nothing new with the art style"
It's literally something new
I am waiting to see if they are going to leave the shiny chaining in from the original games, that's almost a deal breaker for me.
Anyone heard if it's coming?
Guaranteed picks:
Starter (getting both versions, so presumably Torterra & Infernape)
Staraptor/Garchomp (both have been staples of DPPt teams for years)
After that, I'll see what the new Regional Pokédex has in store, base the decisions around that. Based on previous playthroughs (and assuming the Dex is the same), other candidates would probably be:
Luxray
Gyarados
Lucario
Abomasnow/Weavile
Gliscor
Snorlax (yes, I did the Honey Trees for Munchlax)
Removed - unconstructive feedback
Not Spinda, unfortunately; maybe Ambipom.
Turtwig ... after that who knows when you are nuzlocking your way to the top

Staraptor for sure. Either Infernape or Empoleon. But the rest is undecided.
I want to know what the Pokedex is gonna look like still. Hopefully it's at least the Platinum dex. But some additional mons from later gens mixed in would be nice.
If it's the original DP dex that's gonna stink because it was so imbalanced...

Leafeon, But I have to wait to evolve him at the moss rock.
I’m not certain but I’ll probably have both Torterra and Drifblim.

I'm hoping pokemon from other gens will be available in the post game. That will mean I'll get to bring my main team over and have a blast once again!
This will be so great!
Edit: Right, so I forgot to mention what sort of time I'd have. I forgot what I usually go for in the Sinnoh region to start with. But Piplup is a certainty, since water type. I might try and seek out a Sneasel/Weavile but beyond that, I'm not completely sure. Depends on what I see. Maybe I'll try some pokemon I've never tried before. I used to always just grab what I liked the look of and work my way through that way. But maybe I should pick up a Gardevoir for once and see what all the fuss is about lol.

I’m still not sure about this game or not. On one hand, I was not impressed with the reveal or anything about the game so far. Also, Gen 4 was one of my least favorite generations at release.
On the other hand, it’s a Pokémon game and the feeling of nostalgia is so strong. It doesn’t help either that I’m really excited for Arceus, which releases on my birthday (and is, therefore, an absolute given that I will get it). I may get the game just for the build-up for Arceus.
Well, Meloetta will be my main, XD, but, obviously, she is not originally available because the generation and region, XD
Well, as my original team in the original Diamond, my pokemon team will be Piplup, Shinx, Starly, Budew and Eevee, this last one, will evolve to Glaceon, but if remember correctly, only is posible in the post-game..., Oh well
Depends what Pokemon I run into. I tend to nuzlocke the remakes, and given gen 4 was my most played in the franchise, a nuzlocke of the remake should be a trip. Hoping to profit greatly off inherent knowledge of what's coming.
and let it go, @clvr, whatever it is lol
Hoping for a national dex, I would love to have my favorite newer mons on my team like Rapid Strike Urshifu but this is wishful thinking
@Tulio517 Yeah, that's a big part of why I still prefer the originals to frlg.
@Bret apparently he had a big fight with me, at 4 am while I was sleeping. Judging from the email notification I received.
Just in case I’ll mention it here: if people want to discuss moderation, the way to do it is via the contact form. Complaining about it in the comment sections or forums is against the rules, and won’t warrant getting an answer.
Yeah not buying this crap lmao. Had enough of Gamefreak coming out with some sh*t looking games, and yet theyre making money like never before. Theyre starting to become more and more like EA. Sad but im done with pokemon
@NinjaGuy69 It's like I'm stuck in an abusive relationship. I keep thinking "this time they'll change!!" ... but they never do =P
I had such magical experiences in the past, especially Gen 4 for me, and I feel like I've been chasing that feeling almost ever since. shrug
@Chocobo_Shepherd Who knows? Maybe one day they'll make your dreams come true. Or maybe they'll start releasing games where they let you play the first few hours and each gym is paid DLC. All you have to do is believe.
@NinjaGuy69 lol!!
Megas!!
Battling Cynthia's Mega Garchomp +.+
I hope those updates mean they're planning a new trailer soon, otherwise we could make a meme out of these posts xD
Anyway I'm definitely aiming for Turtwig as my starter, like my original Diamond game
For the other Pokémon, I will choose Shinx but especially if they reveal a Mega Luxray or anything like that.
None because I don't believe in forking out 60 bucks for games I've already played. Stop drowning us in remakes please, it's a slap in the face.
It's simple, these games have the best Pokémon of all time, so I need that one. Tropius!
I will take Goku for starter, that's for sure !!
If it was a straight port from the original I might have bought it, but all these QoL changes they are implementing (team wide xp share and getting rid of HMs) is making the game really uninteresting for me.
Teambuilding is a joke, you end up with 2 good Pokémon that do all the work and 4 terrible Pokémon you caught early that outleveled anything you can catch in the wild so you might as well keep them in even tho you're probably never gonna use them.
I'll be rebuilding my old team from the original Diamond.
Infernape
Staraptor
Luxray
Hippowdon
Lucario
Abomasnow
Though I may swap out Hippowdon for a Garchomp as it was supposed to be in my original team but I couldn't find a Gible back then.
@Nintendan64
Good luck with your Nuzlocke run once you start.
@Chocobo_Shepherd
Maybe Pokémon Legends of Arceus will do just that, we can only hope.
crosses fingers
@dBackLash It's ridiculous that with the Exp. Share getting spread across the whole team didn't come with a rebalancing of how much experience each Pokemon needs to level up. Like, for example, at level 30 Pokemon range from having 21,760 experience to 37,800. At level 50, the range is 100,000 to 156,250. At level 100? 600,000 to 1,640,000. If you care even a little about keeping your team around the same level, you'll be using Pokemon on slower experience curves almost exclusively, because the fast-curved Pokemon get enough experience to level up without battling. It sucks.
@miniMewtwo That's what I hope!
I'm going to use
Torterra
Gliscor
Milotic
Weavile
crobat
Anybody have suggestions for any other team members? no garchomp or lucario
I have no real memories of this game. I know I've played it, I remember certain parts of it, but clearly it didn't leave much of an impression like many of the other games did. I know I love Togekiss and Crobat, but I have no idea whether that was from gen 4 or whether that was just in X/Y.
@miniMewtwo Thank you Pretty much got my team planned out, least what I want XD Torterra, Bibarel, Luxray, Honchkrow, Magmortar and Rampardos, May the pokegods be ever in my favour
@KingMike That's good to know. Thanks! Sorry for taking so long to reply.
