Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition getting official release details, along with a trailer and lots of screens, was certainly the standout and dominant news item at the end of the week. Perhaps counter to expectations the visual overhaul is a bit more than a simple upscale, with the footage looking rather familiar but undoubtedly fresh. That's not to say it would be mistaken for footage of games developed from scratch in the 2020s, as characters in particular still have that angular look familiar from past generations.
The official information does point to key gameplay changes, such as controls more in tune with what players know from GTA V. Yet we'd suggest those control updates will need to be good; you may have fond memories of the original '3D' GTA trilogy, but they're of their time and don't necessarily feel particularly smooth to play now. Perhaps The Trilogy will fix that, it's certainly one of the big tests it'll face.
Another question will be how it'll stack up on Switch. We don't think it's a particularly outrageous suggestion to say we'll be looking at it targeting 30fps on Nintendo's system, at best, and if previous reports were accurate and Unreal Engine has been used, that makes some caution advisable. While Unreal games can certainly run on Switch, the system's library is also full of dodgy ports where the different iterations of the engine simply don't play nice with the hardware. Here's hoping that the sheer volume of resources at Rockstar's disposal - and the knowledge that the release could be a big seller on Switch - will ensure that a carefully optimised version arrives on the hybrid.
As for the release details, it's split up between eShop and retail. The digital / eShop version isn't far away on 11th November, while those that want the physical edition need to wait until 7th December. It'll cost £49.99 / $59.99, though that is three games in the package of course, while the file size is 25.4GB; we'll need to wait and see whether Rockstar will opt for a Switch cartridge big enough to hold the full package or force mandatory downloads. We'll keep an eye out for updates.
For some this trilogy release will be revisiting old classics, and no doubt for many it'll represent their first playthroughs of these iconic games. We're curious where you fall in these categories, so by all means pitch in with the polls and comments below - is this a November (eShop) or December (physical) pick-up for you?

Only if all 3 games are on the cartridge. If they have the guts to ask for 60$ they should use the bigger cartridge size!
Nope, i am cotent with my old PC Versions.
Replayed GTA 3 early this Year, great Game!
Edit:
Also, 60 Bucks for something could get in the older Version for under 10?
Naa, feels like a rip off.
Not really planning on buying it I don't think but it's something that I could see myself picking up down the line if I found a really good deal.
I'll wait for reviews but very likely. Probably the only game I'll get for the rest of the year as I'll be playing through the N64 games and my backlog.
I've only played GTA 4 on PS3 and GTA 5 on PS4 and didn't really enjoy either of them. I may give these a go though as I can see myself enjoying them handheld a bit more than playing on the big screen.
Definitely buying them. There are no good alternatives on Switch. I didn’t enjoy the port of Saints row 3.
@MajinSoul
Than i would recommend GTA3.
It is the most "primitive" of all modern GTAs, but as it is more arcady in its Structure, it also helps enjoying it in a straighter Way, as it doesn't leads you into so much "Side Quests / Stuffs" .
@MajinSoul GTA: SA is much more fun than IV or V
Almost certain to get this but will probably hang on for the Physical
No thanks. Not supporting Rockstar with this. I’ve got the games on PS2 if I want to play them. I’m more than happy to buy a new game from them if they ever make one again.
If all three are on the game card I'll consider it. What I think is equally important is quality of life features, including an easy way to replay missions if they are failed. The old system of dying, ending up at a hospital and then going all the way back to get a mission before making your way back to its location is a waste of the player's time.
I'm getting it on Switch, just not right away and probably not for $60.
Also, I find it hilarious this site has the option to vote that you're picking it up on another console while the sister sites don't. Says a lot about how many trolls have infested it.
My only concern is the soundtrack. I'm worried it won't feel the same if they can't get the Vice City music or at least something similar
I'll wait until it comes out to see how it runs and so, but it sounds I'm getting them sooner than later XD
I’ll get it on PS5 instead. Well, if the soundtracks are there.
I love Vice City but it was barely playable when it released, with those terrible controls. Updated with GTA V controls is clutch. Assuming the controls are good, I’ll download it off the eShop.
At 80 dollars? That’s gonna be a hard pass from me. As much as I love GTA, that price is outrageous for 10 year old games 🥸
Physical version for me.
I’m Ok if they put GTA3 and Vice City on the cart with San Andreas as a download provided you can play San Andreas even without the cart inserted (eg Borderlands 2) They might go with this as GTA3 and Vice City should fit on the cheaper 16 GB cart. I would prefer all 3 on the cart but I would be Ok with this outcome
Crime simulators have never been my thing. The reason Nintendo has always been the spiritual centre of gaming for me is that I'm not into this kind of game. It always grated with me back in the GameCube era Nintendo platforms were laughed at for not carrying many "mature" (sic) games filled with blood, gore, guns and naked ladies.
In hindsight I can appreciate the artistry and storytelling in GTA and how the series popularised a lot of concepts that have influenced video games for the better. But I can't see myself buying this. Old resentments die hard I guess.
Still have all the original games and all the original consoles to play them on, so don't see much point buying them again.
Physical, but only if all three are on a single cart with no required downloads, otherwise, it’s a resounding skip from me.
Well, of course I'm getting it as soon as. Three classic GTAs on a Nintendo system for the first time and a hybrid console at that? What's not to love? And with control fixes and other improvements, they'll be a lot better than the old PC versions that were on Steam (RIP to said old versions).
if they're actually gonna change it to play more like V then I'm probably playing them on pc instead. If they were just direct ports I would totally... not spend 60€ on it but if I did it would be on switch
Pre-order is available. I am gonna do it tomorrow. As a PSBOX regular, GTA is the game that I wanted so badly for the Switch.
Ah, so this is why they pulled the old versions of the game. They want you to pay a premium for some polish and QoL improvements.
Well i just wanted gta on the switch, remastered or not so im defiantly getting it.
Most likely, but I wanna wait to make sure that the games run well on switch.
Not interested. If they would pack GTA 1 and 2 in the compilation it would've been a no-brainer for me... but I didn't like the switch to 3D graphics and gameplay.
With an amazing review, yes. With an okay review, wait for a sale.
IF it's 60fps elsewhere and 30fps on Switch there's not a chance I'll choose the Switch version but at least the Switch is getting it at all and I hope it sells well and prompts Rockstar to release some more older games on the system
For a full priced game I always wait for the reviews before making a decision.
If most reviewers give it 9s and 10s, I will buy straight away at full price but anything less, I'll wait for a sale.
Yes! +1 for physical coming out on top! Not dead yet..
Really hoping the switch version does well.
I’m sure it will be 30 fps, and there will be some type of download nonsense. Seeing as I already have my original PS2 copies…hard pass. Maybe when they decide to make an actual new game I’ll buy it.
I miss the option „I wait for a sale“. I played them before and I would be more hyped 2 or 3 years ago. They missed the right Timing.
I'd get Steam if that was a thing but since it is not I'll get physical Switch version if the release isn't totally compromised. If it is then well I suppose I'll just keep playing the modded steam ports instead.
Probly gonna wait for the first 45 day sale. Near the holiday. Should be at least 25% cheaper.
I'm tempted to pick it up, but I need to know more first. Is the original music in place? Does it require a download for physical? How it the performance overall?
At 60 quid ???
Not a chance !
Reviews of the switch version & id like the option to buy each one individually- life’s too busy and one playground is enough for me
I thought Rockstar said the games would feel the same as the originals, but would have a shiny paint over top? I don't have any interest in playing a janky PS2 game again, but if they make it feel similar to GTA V, then I would like to play Vice City again. But as it stands, this is a remaster, so it will be the same as the originals.
I have zero interest in these games. The gangsta fantasy just doesn't speak to me at all. I've tried them a couple of times, even own Chinatown Wars, but I'm just not into it.
Preordered this the second it became available. Full single-AAA-game retail price for 3 gigantic, stone cold classics, the likes of which have never been seen on the Switch, is absolutely fine with me.
I have a 24-hour plane trip coming up in early December and I know exactly how I'm going to be spending it.
Nah. Not my kind of game. I don't like violence, it takes a lot to make me play a more violent game (like Assassin's Creed representing beautiful recreated historical locations, that's how much it takes) and these games don't have anything like that.
I enjoyed making mischief with that amazing 80s soundtrack in Vice City, but never owned the other titles so I most definitely would like to buy this physical. If all 3 games are on the cart, that is!
With a Dec 7th street date they must have pressed the carts by now, so the lack of details on the physical release has me worried Rockstar is going to Pearl Harbor us with a cheapo cart emblazoned with the ugly MANDATORY DOWNLOAD banner.
If that’s the case, 75% off eshop sale it is! I can afford to wait. Please do the right thing for us who care about legitimate physical releases!
If the PS3 can handle GTA V then the Switch definitely can.
I actually think $60 for a remastered trilogy of popular games is a perfectly fair price. It sounds like they put a good amount of effort into these remasters as well and that deserves money. However I've never liked GTA so I won't be buying it. I feel like these games try too hard to be cool and mostly aim for a male teen audience. I can't stand stuff like that. However if you like the games it sounds like they did a good job.
I’ll pass most likely although I loved playing Crazy Taxi in GTA 3 it isn’t my cup of tea.
I've actually never played any games in the series so I'm seriously considering it, although I wish they were sold separately so I could try just one.
Assuming the games perform well? Definitely. Although if they're not all on the cart, I'll probably wait for a digital sale.
I wanted GTA V on Switch for a long time, but these will probably end up being a better match for the hardware. Either way, this will be the first fully portable GTA release since the PSP iterations and the brilliant Chinatown Wars on the NDS, and it's been so long since I've played them that I don't actually remember much, so they should be a good time.
No, another port of old games. Mehh
Hoping they are also sold separately on the eshop, then will definitely pick up one or 2!
I'm definitely buying it on Switch and as much as I want the physical version (hopefully they even manufacture enough to satisfy demand) having GTA:The Definitive Trilogy downloaded to easily play at any time (regardless of what Switch cart I have in "Breath Of The Wild 2" haha) is just as appealing. Also, these games may indeed release separately for around $20. Excited AF!!! 💕
Don't like them, and they won't live up to the hype. Everyone's already played at least one and got used to better graphics by now.
But cool for those with nostalgic feelings for them. The more games being given a second chance the better.
Played all GTA games but sadly, never had the chance to finish all three. I'll wait for a physical copy in December. I'm in no rush and my November is already dedicated to Pokémon BDSP
I'll play the versions I have on other platforms. 60 bux I'd milking the user base. I'm against it.
I'm getting this on ps5 even though i really wanna play it in handheld mode on switch
I'm guessing the graphics will be the best on 5
When platform holders like Nintendo remaster old games and sell them at full price, they give good footing for 3rd parties to follow suit. At least this one contains three remastered titles instead of just one. Big titles as well where you can spend endless hours on, so I think the price is far from outrageous.
If it's complete on card, then it's day one. If it's half assed then it's a day never. If publishers can't be bothered with what they are selling, I can't be bothered to buy it. That's how it works.
My interest in these games revolves solely around the update to the controls. They're great games, but I'm not particularly interested in revisiting them except to see how they feel with an update, and that's not enough for me to buy. I feel like I'll play one for 5 minutes, say "Wow, this feels a lot better!", and never touch it again.
The games themselves suffer from that "you had to be there" factor. It's an amazing, influential trilogy, but so many games have copied, iterated, and improved on their gameplay that they simply don't hold up other than as an important piece of history. It's like the first Evil Dead movie; they're a victim of their own influence, outdated by their own success.
Yes I want to play this on the Switch! Day 1.
@Rosalinho I was just thinking the same thing, honestly. Plus, part of my work involves a lot of potential contact with criminals, so I don't want to come home and play a game about them, too!
15 year old games for €60... No thanks
@Clyde_Radcliffe agreed. i've never played a gta before, so i'm intrigued
I only played San Andreas on my PS2 back in the day.
I didn't quite understand how to play it actually, I was young and all I did was drive around the city. And sure it was fun but I bet there's more to it than just that.
So yes, I'm planning on getting it but only on physical.
@Red_Silurian
But you will gladly slurp up Nintendo's offerings when they re-release the same games over and over 🤡
Maybe once they're on sale, but I'd rather see a rerelease of Bully.
@KillerBOB I don't usually no... Unless they're cheap, then I'd consider them but not necessarily slurp them up
Not sure weather to get the switch version or the PS4 version will probably get it on ps4 to unlock the trophies for it
That's a pretty penny for a trio of old games. And ones that I liked, but not as much as my siblings. Also there's the question of soundtracks and any possible cut content.
If they are all on the cartridge for sure! I wil think about it when 3 and Vice City are on the cartridge. But there is no excuses Rockstar!
I'll get San Andreas, on the Eshop, it appears that each games can be get separately, hope that's the case.
@Madao I feel the same but then I think of crash the n sane trilogy & spyro the reignited trilogy & clearly alot more work went into those games & they only charged £35 at launch
Physical for Switch & PS5 day 1! I'm excited to play these games on a Nintendo console (finally) and in portable mode on my Switch oled! The PS5 version will be great for 4K 60fps and trophy support.
Definitely going to buy, whether it is a day one purchase depends on how the physical version is. Still haven't completely lost all hope for all games on the cart. If it does need a download, I'll wait for a sale. Not paying 60e for a digital version nor a physical version with a required download.
People complaining about the price yet same people probably bought the 3D mario all stars collection for $60 😂
Getting the physical... so long as all 3 games are on it.
I played them on the PS2 when they were new and the were tons of fun
I will probably buy GTA3 as soon as it comes out, wait for big sales on the other two
I played most GTA games in some form. However I never really liked any of them. At all. Good for the fans, but I'll be skipping them.
It really depends on the price.
When it’s 20 euro’s i’m gonna pick it up.
Waiting for a sale.
If the only option is digital.. I'll give this one a hard pass.
A game this dated is not worth "that much" space on my sd card 😒
Fingers crossed for a cartridge 🤞
@Rosalinho When I was a kid, the big appeal of these games was being a rebellious teen and doing horrible things because it was silly, subversive, and no other game let you do stuff like this. It was a good outlet for being a s***head kid without actually doing anything wrong, not to mention there's a well designed game buried underneath all the controversy.
But yeah, as an adult with life experience, this type of game is a lot less appealing now.
Nope! The GTA games have never appealed to me. I've never understood how we micro-analyze games for problematic hidden or non-existent content. But then games that are blatantly loaded with highly problematic content is like "oh haha! whatevs!"
shrug
Hopefully it’s runs well.
I collect for switch so I don't mind the price. I might not pick it up right away though and wait for a used copy depending on how much they really remastered.
Many fond memories of all three games!
I’ll definitely be getting it from the eShop on day one. Played the originals on my ps2, but I don’t mind a remaster. Playing handheld sounds so exciting to me.
Definitely getting them at some point, but not voting about it because local polls don't seem to have a concept of "some point" beyond digital and physical launch windows. Consider your purchase any later, and you're either a cautious buyer in need of someone's divine opinion on the internet or clearly can't stand the mere mention of the game's title.😆
Dropped off the series after San Andreas. And never went back and I'm happy with that.
Switch will be the best platform to play it on, and it will actually run at 60fps the devs confirmed this already
I believe the physical version will be a massive collectors item in the future and is the one to get.
Played all 3 multiple times and SA is still one of my favourite games. I plan on getting it day 1 on PS5 and then get the Switch version for Xmas.
I think that’s a fair price for these three games, too. There is no entitlement here and they’re free to get what people are willing to pay and I’m fine with 60 for those three.
And that will be for people who want it right away, we pay a premium. That’s fair. Don’t think it’s a good value, don’t buy. Easy.
Everything is OK as long as it's available on the Switch.
I'll get my copy on PS5.
If all three are on the cartridge, then definitely yes!
I thought about getting this, but then I remember how quickly these games get boring for me. There's no way I will ever make my way through three of them.
However, I would love to see a sequel to China Town Wars! That's far and away my favorite and the only GTA that I've played all the way through multiple times.
Definitely picking it up physical. Even more so because I spent my GTA gaming time actually NOT playing, and watching my brother and friends play through. So technically this will be my first time owning it and giving it my own shot. I’m fully aware the original disc versions are the way to go though because the Vice City soundtrack really made it for me.
If there is one game series I don't associate with Nintendo, and never want to, it's GTA.
I know they are 'good games' from one point of view, but whilst Doom fits Nintendo nicely, and I love me some violence of the demon-slaying variety, I outgrew the specific crime-based mindlessness of GTA years and years ago and have no wish to ever go back.
I've zero interest in putting this on my Switch, but more power to those who will enjoy it.
I'll put it on my Series S because storage and graphics.
@dewokkel Are you dutch? i keep it for Lego City undercover for a while... not for 60 bucks. @Zuljaras @Azuris THIS. Not 60 bucks! @Red_Silurian @IronMan30
@reporterdavid yeah, I’m Dutch 😊.
Forgot about Lego city. Hm, that one was quite fun actually. 60 euro’s is al lot of money, but you’re going to get 3 long ass games for that. On the other hand, Star Wars Kotor will release on the same day… that game will only cost you €12.50.
For the last question, I’d have combined: definitely buying, [but] will wait for December for physical version [only] after a Switch version analysis/footage is released.
I want this on Switch: I’m not a graphics hog but I do want it to look decent enough where I don’t feel like I should just get it for PS. I also don’t want yo see crazy long load times…
Either way, whatever system I get it for, I’m definitely buying all 3. I have zero complaints about the price as I’m not someone who bought these games over and over through the years. I only ever owned vice city and 3 on PS2. Never played San Andreas. To me, $60 for 3 basically brand new/retooled games for me is not something worth complaining about.
Waiting to see
cant wait to beat up hookers, hijack cars, and get into epic shootouts on my switch.
@reporterdavid the real reason I wouldn't pay $60 is because it would get less of am argument from my wife for buying it at a lower price, not because I feel it's not worth that price. Assuming that's what you're insinuating.
Give it to me 100% physical and I am willing to overlook many bugs/glitches/lags.
It looks crap.
@Jmjfrank
The soundtracks (especially VICE CITY's) are a deal-breaker for me. For $60.00 USD they can afford relicensing them.
I played 3 to the end and some of VC. I’ll get it at $30-40. Switch if it works, PS4 if it doesn’t. Physical preferred.
I've waited a long time to play these again, I can wait a little longer for some reviews to come in and to find out if the cartridge version actually has the game on it or if its just an annoying key to access the digital versions. I can probably also wait for the inevitable price drop.
Yup, I have all three on PS2, but haven't had it hooked up in ages so it'll nice to go back to play these with the upgraded graphics. Even better, having these on a portable device. I'll be waiting for the physical version though.
I might get it for PC. As much as i love these games, i have alot of games i need to finish. By the time i get all caught up this trilogy might be on sale.
it absolutely must be 100percent physical
If it reviews well on switch and it includes the original soundtracks for vice city and San Andreas then I will pick it up in a sale. As £50 is far too steep for polished 20 year old games.
I will wait for the reviews like many have voiced their concern about the soundtrack and ofcourse the gameplay.
Don't get me wrong, I would love to play these remasters on a portable system. I have a great love for Vice City and San Andreas but some songs are so important for the feel of the games that they do belong in the game.
These games are iconic, that C64 intro to Vice City is classic. I had the trilogy back on the original Xbox and the custom soundtracks option was a great addition, even though the 80s and 90s selections on the radios were great. I spent many hours driving and flying around, not even doing missions. Will get on PS4 first I think as will probably get a PS5 at some point, but if runs well on Switch I'll also get them for my Lite. I didn't really care for GTA 4 or 5, but Vice City and San Andreas I played a lot. They should have added Liberty and Vice City Stories for the price though.
It will be day of release physical purchase but only on the proviso everything is on cart.
I'm tempted by the option to play Vice City (my favorite in the series) on a handheld but it depends on how it performs and whether it has the original soundtracks.
I already made the mistake of pre-ordering a multiplatform game for Switch before seeing how it stacks up to the other consoles, I would rather avoid another Sonic Colors Ultimate, thank you.
I'll wait till I see how it looks on switch first! with the current hardware! If it sucks then I'll get it on my PS5! So much memories!!
I'll probably pick it up on a sale as they're important moments in gaming history, but I think they'll still feel incredibly dated, even with updated controls. GTA IV and V are lightyears ahead of them and now even the newer of those is 8 years old.
Meh. Just can't seem to care about GTA since becoming an adult. Outside of running from cops in III I've never really enjoyed playing GTA.
Am Looking forward to it 😊
i'm gonna wait for reviews and a sale/price drop. $60 is way too much though I'm sure the games aren't super cheap to sell if they're keeping all that licensed music in it plus if they still have to pay like voice actors n such. i'll hopefully grab the physical for around $30
I will get them but it will be sometime next year. My wallet is empty for the rest of the year.
min specs on PC version are not low. worried about switch port
Tbh I have all gtas on pc (including the original soundtrack versions on steam) and I am tempted to get it on switch also depending on a number of factors.
I don't mind double dipping on the switch for the Trilogy but the above factors will play a big part for me if I am getting it day one, on sale or never buying it.
nintendo does this type of stuff all the time, except they literally just straight port the game with no enhancements whatsoever and slap a $60 price tag on it.
@RudeAnimat0r same, once the chase with the cops is over, I get bored with it.
@Rosalinho Nailed it...Nintendo is legendary because of their artistic vision. Nintendo almost has a pantheon. GTA gives the whole industry a bad name, and deservedly so.
I don't dislike Rockstar or their games. I actually play a lot of their titles. But the videogame industry definitely isn't about murdering prostitutes.
Butttt....I will pick this up.
I'll get the game only if it runs well on the Switch. If the physical release includes all content on the cartridge it's a no brainer to me.
Otherwise, I'll stick to my older PC versions.
@dewokkel Recently the patch has corrected alot of issues in the saints row 3
It’s 60FPS on PS5. I’ll get it there when the price drops down a bit.
@HollowSpectre GTA 4's trilogy is the best of the series
I played GTA1 and GTA5 each at the time they were released on PC, and none in between. Somehow I'm fine with that.
@Larams thanks! I may have to try it out again some time 👍🏻
@BongoBongo123
That’s… a really minor part of Grand Theft Auto.
I’ve always played them for their hilarious over the top satire on American stereotypes as well as their stories. Speaking as an American, they get pretty close to how crazy we are as a people.
@Azuris but for $10 more you get the newest version of each as it's only $20 per game.
Just like the mario collection
If it runs at 60fps on Switch I'll definitely get it to play smoothly in handheld. That would be awesome! And I would probably double dip on a powerful system if it runs at 120fps on XSX or PS5. But it is looking like it only goes "up to" 60fps on XSX and PS5, so I might end up skipping this release. If it can run locked at 60fps on PS5 or XSX then I'll probably eventually get it when it goes on a deep sale. I'd love to play San Andreas, but I really want to play it at a modern frame rate.
I hope the soundtracks remain from the originals
Will be a sideload apk for me. I don't care for SA at all, so not going to shell out full price for 20 year old games.
@IronMan30 it might also be because Xbox and PS4/5 versions will not have as many performance issues. I love playing on Switch but with multiplatform stuff, it is often an inferior experience.
For me it is too early to say. If this is on the cartridge, running smoothly, then I'd pay like $40 for it. As a download, maybe I'd pay $15-20
Nah, I had my fun back in the day with it. I'd GameFly it just for old times sake at least.
Nah. Never been a fan of the series. But I know how important it is and I think is great that GTA is on a nintendo console without being a spin off.
That said..where is GTA5? They surely can port it to switch (it's a PS3/XBOX360 game anyway).
Not my kind of game, so I'd never spend 60 bucks on it, but it's nice to see it being added to the Switch library for those who enjoy it
The only thing that matters is the physical version. Nintendo Life should be looking into why these companies are using small cartridges. Is it a Nintendo issue? And where is the 64GB cartridge? I may have to get the PS4 version, because the CMOS issue there is resolved, and the games all come on disc. Big deal for physical gamers.
@dewokkel right we haven’t seen a gta game on a Nintendo console since China town wars an gta advance im getting it for sure day one
I never liked this type of gaming.
I dont care for a game that you kill everyone and say motherf...g all the time.
My type of gaming is nintendo exclusives.
Won’t be getting them (hate GTA) but happy it exists on Switch. More games for everyone.
I haven’t played any of the games in this trilogy so I’m tempted to pick it up. I’m going to wait to see how much of an “upgrade” it is over the original games, though. If I do snag it I’ll definitely go physical, even if it does require a download.
@IronMan30,
They know that a lot of people on here also own a Playstation, Xbox, and possible a gaming P.C, and of course having a choice will opt for the versions on the more powerful consoles, pointless to ask in most cases.
I’m not too excited to play them, if I do I’ll just get the free one on game pass. Not like my switch won’t have enough to play the next few months.
Have no interest in this franchise.
Games are starting to become like movies; the older ones are better than the new ones
@johnvboy not at all pointless to post bait, which this site does very often, to get those sweet clicks. But I get what you mean. Lol
It better have higher quality voice clips.
I voted for getting the games from the eShop for now, just in case the physical release gets announced that not all of the games are on a cartridge. If one or two of them are a separate download, which I think will be the case, it will be digital for me. There would be no point in owning a physical copy if they aren't all on the cartridge, at least for me that is.
San Andreas for free on gamepass for my series s .Vice city for free on sony Ps plus and nothing for free on switch even with their new ludicrous online fee no free games.
I’m gonna wait and see. Visually it looks like a nice upgrade, but i am concerned about the level of censorship that’s been done to them.
I've never played a GTA game but always been interested. But the talk of beating up sex workers to get your money back, etc, always struck me as kind of gross ... is that an integral mechanic or can you skip that? Is there a lot of beating up of vulnerable folks you have to do to move the story forward, vs taking on legit enemies who fight back?
I'll be getting it for xbox series X.
Just to avoid performance issues with Switch.
@somnambulance Didn't a big massive Red Dead game come out just like 3 years ago? Their games take tons of time to make and I'm sure they've been working on the next once since RDR2 went gold.
@VulcanFurynx01 The media really blew that out of proportion. All killing of vulnerable folk can be avoided if you wish, almost all missions have you fighting those who are fighting back. The sex workers thing? I've been playing San Andreas for about 15 years and never once beat up a sex worker to get my money back.
@Chlocean Yes, there was the nearly flawless RDR2 three years ago. However, Rockstar used to make several superb games a generation, and this past generation, we got just one game and a whole lot of GTA online. I understand it takes a lot of time to make games of this style, and I can wait, but I’m definitely not buying a $60 compilation for a bunch of PS2 games with improved lighting that were floating under $10 a piece (albeit with worse lighting) a few weeks ago. I’d rather get news of a new game scheduled to be coming in 3 years, honestly.
I'm getting SMT V on the 12th so I'll wait for the physical version, hoping the three games will be on the cartridge if not may be I'll get the eshop version, I really wanna play vice city and san andreas again, and see the upgrade they made. I hope that the port is great
I haven't played Grand Theft Auto since the original release on PC in 1997. That game was lots of fun.
Of course i already have it preordered on the eShop. Put it down the moment the news app informed me it was available.
I’ve played all the GTA games except for GTA2. I mega enjoyed the PSP ‘stories’ series and wished for San Andreas on it.
I hate that faux gangster personality some people in the UK have (the Ali G type). And crime wise I’m a big follower of the law. I hate criminals and rotten scoundrels and will always phone police. I’ve had to report young adults coming onto part of my land last year, repeatedly over the course of a week each night they’d congregate. I installed cameras to gather evidence (well ok I moved existing cameras) and forwarded it all onto the police. I was just trying to get them done for trespassing but the police caught them one night and they had various drugs with them. I think one was put away for two years if local rumours are to be believed ( I guess its possible. Covid restrictions being broken, repeated offender? type of drugs on him? )
All that aside yeppers! Playing GTA on the PSP was one of the best gaming experiences of the year back in the day. A whole GTA with new characters and stories that intertwine with the main series. New radio music and chatter. All so good. I’d play for hours just going through the radio stations. Playing that in a hidden attic nook was heaven.
So I never played the main games that much save for GTA 5. Barely touched GTA 4.
My plan here is to, I dunno which GTA to play first! I’ll install them all. I like the first GTA for its history, Vice City for its lovely atmosphere. As a late teen in the 1980’s I got to experience Florida’s islands and such places. Went with cousins and a buddy. Got to sample the… ahem… the 1980’s fun medicines. Hehehe. Wild time. The best.
San Andreas is the ultimate game. They went full RPG there. You can get buff or fat, stats exist and mean things. The world there is also vast. It might not feel as big after playing GTA 5 as we all have.
The screenshots for the Definitive Edition look amazing. I know they’ll be rendered on a high end PC however, it’s going to look close on Switch comparing it to other games and knowing how capable the machine is. I hope Rockstar were smart enough to include two modes: low res 480p with high details, or higher res with lower details. I don’t know why people are so addicted to high resolutions. As a long long time true hardcore gamer I know for a fact that resolution means sweet bugger all: I own Doom Eternal on PS5 and Switch. Now I’ve 100% finished both I only return to the Switch one because of motion aiming and graphics I don’t care for, it looks amazing on Switch especially OLED. I always petition devs I know to do what the PS5 does (in case you don’t know because they’re too hard to get hold of now and that’s the only reason to not have one IMO: you have 120fps 1080p mode, or 120 4k with fewer details, or 1080p but with Raytracing enabled. You get the idea. No individual settings like old PC games used to have - instead have 2-3 presets. I’d take everything low res with more detail especially when antialiased like Crysis 3 or Doom Eternal.
All that and one of my closest buds is a producer at one of the Rockstar places. Out of all my buds that remained in the media industry he’s the most tight lipped. But I also like surprises so I don’t tend to ask for much.
Literally cannot wait for GTA DE on Switch. All remade games now need to have modern control styles. The fight system in the old GTA games was cack. GTA 5 is perfect. I strongly need that on PS5 so I can play with, iDunno raytracing etc. Would look fantasticly great.
