@BionicDodo Gamefreak doesn’t really innovate anyway, that’s what makes the “Very unique twist”-bit so laughable, Pokemon games have been pretty much the same since Red/Blue, but a Snap-sequel suddenly needs a “Very unique twist”, please... ~_~
Am i the only one who finds hearing that from Gamefreak of all developers (While not the kings of the similar sequels, still infamous for them) just utterly hilarious?
While having Shantae in Smash would be nice (Would make a nice change from another dude with a sword), that window isn’t very special, it has been that way for a long time now, round, slightly uneven crossbars: https://knowyourmeme.com/photos/713131-shantae
The GBA game is the one of the series (I have played since the original for the SNES) that i sunk most time into, lots of stuff to do (After the obligatory slow start), but not quite as bloated as the later titles...
@Xploder9825 Well, it depends, just breeding a basic pokemon is easy, leave two compatible pokemon at the "Day care"-place, walk around a bit, retrieve the egg, walk around some more, yay! New pokemon!
But then inherited moves, natures, stats, and stuff come into it, and it can take a few dozen hours to get just one perfect pokemon (I never went down the metaphorical rabbit hole that deep though)
For me it's mostly sentimental value, those pokemon have been with me for years, i watched them go from unmoving pixellated sprites to 3D models that smile and hop around when i feed them, and to go on a new pokemon adventure without Shrubbery, my event Shaymin i got in Platinum on my DS by my (Again, metaphorical) side... ~_~,
I mean, they’ll try to sell us “Super Mario bros.” in several different formats, variations and other minor changes over the next few years, can’t let freeloaders muscle in on that sweet “Just one more version of an old game”-action!
@PikaPlayz Hm, a week ago i would have launched into a "Typical consumer sheep..."-tirade, by now i calmed down a bit, although i stand by my assertion that the way Gamefreak and Nintendo are dealing with the whole thing is pretty poor...
@Xploder9825 Tempers are running pretty high about this, some people have hundreds of hours worth of competitive breeding invested in their collection, i have some pokemon i have been taking from game to game since the Gameboy Advance, and to then have official channels act like nothing is going on, or the “It doesn’t affect me so beep you guys”-people are pretty galling.
Still no reason to get rude, but i can understand a fair degree of frustration at this point...
@Xploder9825 That would be great, but on the other hand, having such options would make it even more sour if the pokemon a player really likes (Like how Ash feels about Pikachu) doesn't make the cut...
A guy on Reddit ran a poll about people's single favourite pokemon, the result: all but 4 of them got votes, so no matter which ones they remove, some people will get that bad feeling of their favourite getting the axe...
Nonsense excuse, all the groundwork has been done for the 3DS games to “Future-proof” the models, nothing in the trailers made the models look any more expressive or whatever than on the 3DS (Upgrade from low-res 3DS screen aside), everything moves just the same, the pokemon already had walking/running animations (albeit unused) in Sun/Moon too.
@Ludovsky I hope you're right, i understand GF wanting players to play through the gyms or whatever with Sword/Shield pokemon, but i want my trusty pokemon, some of them transferred from game to game since the GBA-games to make the leap to the Switch without having to wait several months for Nintendo and GF to decide "Ok, now it's time"
@frabbit You can probably bring them across at the start, but not control them until you get enough badges (It’s what the “Pokemon up to level X will obey you”-clauses on the badges was for), so in the case of level 100 ‘mon, you won’t get to use them until you cleared all the gyms/whatever you get badges from.
Since you’ll likely be unable to transfer pokemon until Pokemon home releases (months after Sword and shield), it won’t be much of an issue anyway.
I figured this would happen when Starlink released, the major toys-to-life titles (Disney infinity, Skylanders, LEGO Dimensions) all closed down, and then this Johnny-come-lately stumbles onto the scene, sorry to be so cynical (well, not really), but did anybody expect different results?
Maybe i'm really a nasty guy, but i find that guy with the "Has to steal as not intelligent enough to work"-feedback hilarious, the fraudster was apparently intelligent enough to fool him!
I’m waiting for a look at the final evolutions before making a choice of which starter is best, since the vast majority of the time they are their final evolution.
In SM/USUM, Popplio was my least favourite starter, but Primarina is my favourite final evolution of the starters, so again, i’ll wait with judging before i know how they “grow up” :3
@mrjelly Technology and hardware power have advanced massively since the original "Pokémon snap", nowadays a game like this could be made free-roaming, with far bigger and more detailed stages, more Pokémon with more animations...
The N64 "Pokémon snap"-game was pretty shallow (Although the hardware couldn't do much more), but a similar game with today's technology could be awesome.
Well, if Nintendo are planning to release Gen8 this year, an announcement at about this time would be logical, as a kick-off to the usual drip-feed of information through CoroCoro, leading up to release...
@AlternateButtons I think you're woefully overestimating the size of the "Shaggy or no buy!"-crowd, it was a silly suggestion based on what are basically re-skinned "Chuck Norris"-jokes, nobody was really expecting it to happen, but it's fun to joke about.
The sales figures have spoken: the time of the 3DS is over, which is sad, since the 3DS is a fine piece of kit (Could have done with a less manky screen though), but even AAA games for it don’t sell anymore...
@SBandy There’s a sizable area between “Bowsette is the greatest thing since sliced bread” and “Everybody who likes Bowsette is a freak and should be ashamed of existing” though...
@Frenean Nintendo threw the 3DS’ gimmick overboard with the 2DS though, so it’s not as impossible as you say, although the loss of loose controllers would cause sizable trouble with LABO and certain games.
Making a “pro”-version would be a sizable “F U” to people who bought Switch so far, not sure Nintendo will take the risk for that, either...
I have fond memories of the game magazines of old too, but print media just can't keep up with the pace of websites, the last time i browsed a gaming magazine (A few years ago already), it was all "I read this stuff weeks ago online", while magazines are great as a sort of "What was new back then?" time capsule, as a way to just read news and reviews they're terribly outdated...
@johnvboy At the risk of being called a doomsayer or whatever, shifting copies of Smash bros. and shifting consoles are two different things, Smash will give Switch sales a boost, sure, but how big a boost remains to be seen, the next set of console sales figures will tell, i suppose...
They should have given Peach bicycle shorts under her dress, and if anybody asks, say “Well, Peach saw this coming a mile away, so she took precautions!” :3
I caught a Bulbasaur in Viridian forest, so that one at least is easier to catch than get this way, i’ll make sure to get Charmander and Squirtle though! :3
With the forced motion controls, of course they won't allow for another controller, it makes sense to me...
Forcing motion controls in the first place is a point against buying the games for me (I'm still on the fence about it), but it's not "Forced" if you then give people an out, is it?
@Kinoen Oh no, Pokemon should stay turn-based, a lot of things could do with improvement, but making it a completely different game would be a pretty bad idea...
@dougphisig I would be up for a “whole world”-game, being able to catch all pokemon (Except for event ones) in one huge game world would be awesome!
I don’t know how “Open world” would work though, unless by that he meant “We’ll stop railroading you through the game”, because not being stuck to some invariably forgettable story would be great, if players just want to go out catching pokemon without bothering with the preset story, let them!
I’m still on the fence about this one, it looks great (I like the cartoony style), but not being able to use the pokemon i have had for years and lovingly transferred from game to game is a bit of a downer, of all the daunting things to new players i doubt the number of pokemon is a big issue...
I think lots of people are bitter about the “Let’s go”-games because it took resources away from the mainline games to make it, and let’s be honest here: the main reason “pokemon go” got so popular was because pretty much everybody already has a cellphone, spending €360 or so on a Switch and game just to “take the next step” will be too big an expenditure for lots of them...
I don't know why anybody would risk this, just get a NES mini and stick all the ROMs you'd ever want on there without Nintendo finding out, with the Switch you can be sure even Nintendo will at some point find out and permaban your account, and all that over some NES-games?
@NewAdvent Well, all those things are the bulk of the fun for you, how many people out there just enjoy catching and training (However sub-optimally) a bunch of cool and/or cute monsters, without worrying about natures, IVs, abilities and all that stuff?
@Nehalem This is a Nintendo fansite, of course people are going to take Nintendo's side... :3
That said, i'm sure that Nintendo will sneak a few "Why did they go and do that?"-moments in there, it is still Nintendo doing something online, would be a shame to break time-honoured tradition...
