A Nintendo Switch remake of Game Boy Advance game Harvest Moon: Friends of Mineral Town has been confirmed for release in Japan.
Very little has been revealed for the new game - such as how, and if, it'll expand upon or reimagine the original - but we do know that it appears to blend content from both Friends of Mineral Town and More Friends of Mineral Town, a separate version of the game which features a female protagonist.
The first few screenshots have been revealed via Famitsu.
The game is set to launch on 17th October in Japan; no western release has been confirmed so far.
Did you play this one on Game Boy Advance? Excited for the remake, assuming it does get a western release? Let us know in the comments below.

I REALLY HOPE that it gets a western release.
This game was my childhood and I would love to be able to replay it on the go in HD on my Nintendo Switch.
It looks kinda cute, but Natsume is pretty much dead to me at this point. I might pick it up when it inevitably goes on heavy discount, but until then I think I'll just keep finding new reasons to love Stardew Valley.
So it's a remake of a demake of a reimagining of a N64 game? Ok.
They should've just remade Harvest Moon 64, while adding in the features and improvements of Back to Nature and Friends of Mineral Town.
@FTPinkRabbit
This has nothing to do with Natsume, it's Marvelous. It will most likely be called Story of Seasons overseas.
Wait, is that by Marvelous or by Natsume ?? 😮
Wow, they Made it even more chibi then was necessary on gba... not liking the artstyle, I would have enjoyed a closer to original remake over this
The GBA version is wonderful. I have fond memories of playing it. Always felt like I was missing out on something because I didn't have connectivity to the GameCube's "A Wonderful Life" version via the link cable.
I would have preferred a less chibi-like aesthetic for this remake.
@Anti-Matter Just like you, I am always lost. I just looked it up and Natsume started publishing their own (apparently crap) Harvest Moon in 2007 on the DS. So this one will probably be named Story of Seasons in the west.
Good news, but later need to separate time to play this from Doraemon versions
The GBA game is the one of the series (I have played since the original for the SNES) that i sunk most time into, lots of stuff to do (After the obligatory slow start), but not quite as bloated as the later titles...
Very exciting, I assume this will be Story of Seasons. I quite like the art style so fingers crossed it comes West.
Still one of my fav Harvest Moon games.
I really hope this avoids being the usual technical mess from Natsume and actually turns out ok!
Let's see how the Natsume/Marvelous feud affects the western release. My (rather negative) opinion is that it won't make overseas, but I hope I'm wrong.
Would love to see a Magical Melody remake/remaster someday
@Lizuka I hope you're right. It's a small price to pay to get a real Harvest Moon over here
Too little, too late. Stardew killed it.
Wow, I'm really torn on this. The GBA game is one of the best in the series, but I am really not liking the art style. I do have a little faith though, as this is going to be a Story of Seasons game, not a Harvest Moon made by Natsume. I guess we'll see how it pans out as we get more info.
Woohoo 100 levels of mining! I loved that game!!!
Hopefully this is successful enough and we get A Wonderful Life and Magical Melody remake soon.
I was excited until I saw the chibi graphics... ugh!
The smartphone style character portrait above the dialogue box kills it for me even more. I t looks so cheap and nasty.
Oh man so disappointed.
Really happy with this announcement but not digging the art style that much, the Doraemon SoS game looks way better. I think they could do better than this.
The environment looks cool but the characters model could use some work. Hopefully Rune Factory 5 will look decent.
This was my favorite Harvest Moon.
They should have kept the original graphics.
Would have been cheaper for the developer and far more appealing for the gamers.
Always wanted this one as a kid, if it reviews well I might have my chance
@retroxdp
It's not, it's produced by Marvelous, but it seems they've handed development to some other studio, presumably because they're working on the new Story of Seasons.
It does look pretty cheap, but I think if it was Natsume it would've looked far worse.
The GBA title got a western release, so it shouldn't be hard to give the west a copy of this too.
Not a huge fan of this art style, but I'll still get it anyway since I really enjoyed the original. I'm part of the problem.
Happy it's not Natsume. I guess I just assumed they owned the rights to all the old games even though they didn't develop it. This means I could still get that HM64 remake in the Link's Awakening claymation/toy art style that I've been dreaming of!
@FTPinkRabbit
This is by Marvelous not Natsume.
Story of Season Friends of the Past
Oh my harvest goddess yes!
I just hope they don't go crazy with the character renaming, Natsume likely won't meddle if they try to use their localized names. Contrary to popular belief, the companies are not in a deathly bloody war with each other.
It's the only thing that could break it for me.
I hope we get this over here, even if it is under a different name.
I loved the OG game on GBA, poured a ridiculous amount of time into it.
Thankfully I like the aesthetics of this more than other recent HM games, so I'm excited.
I love the GBA game, but I'm honestly not that excited about this. For one thing, I still have a working copy of the original and a GBA-SP and DS to play it on. For another, Stardew took everything that was good in Mineral Town and made it better. I'll feel bad about passing on this, but I'm pretty sure I'll pass anyway.
@FTPinkRabbit It's actually by Marvelous, the original creators and the ones who make Story of Seasons.
It's name roughly translates to 'Story of Seasons: Reunion at Mineral Town'
@Anti-Matter Marvelous
Cannot wait!! Logged so many hours on 64 and Back to Nature!
This doesn't look that bad. I just hope XSeed can do the localization justice (since I believe that's the company that will release the game in the west. Here's hoping it gets released!
I`ve been looking into trying out harvest moon and it looks like Mineral Town is one of the best title to get acquainted with the series. Will definitely give this a go.
@FTPinkRabbit LMAO Natsume has nothing to do with this. Natsume has the Harvest moon title property in North America for all titles after ANB. This is by Marvelous who made all harvest moon games from A New Beginning and before.
This is story of Seasons, meaning it is an official Bokujou monogatari release that Natsume has no part in.
Im excited for this, this is my childhood game together with FFIX. But when are they going to release a new Story of Seasons Game? I mean even just the Trio of Towns HD/Remastered gets ported ill buy it. And if this game is really a remake i hope they introduce a lot of new things to make the game much more exciting. But first things first, i hope this gets a Western Release asap! the Harvest Moon Light Hope something for me was just a major let down or a downgrade of some sort
I will learn Japanese.
The Langrisser remakes coming to the west had me stoked, but this has me about to foam at the mouth. This was literally the Harvest Moon game that made a Harvest Moon fan out of me. After experiencing it, I started playing the older entries and got really hardcore into it. I'm not sure how they can compete with Stardew Valley but I'm behind this all the way as long as they keep the core farming aspect in the front and center of the game. (I felt future installments got a bit too Animal Crossing-like and Minecraft-like)
I played the original Friends of Mineral Town a ton back with my GBA... this is definitively a purchase for me, I hope they announce the localization soon!
Excited to play this again. This was one of the initial BokuMono games that I played. The first screenshots did put me off at first but when I see it in motion, I definitely love it!
