I did the same thing, when felt i only had the games for playing, i still do, but have grown to appreciate completeness more, it's a mistake almost everybody made back in the day, now i know it was foolish (And keep the boxes of every game i buy physically), but i don't make myself miserable thinking too much about that mistake...
@Yosher The tricky part is that the cartridges were produced weeks, if not months ago, i still miss the old "Buy a game, insert the cartridge (Into the console, perverts!), play"-days though...
What irked me about the whole Dexit-kerfuffle in SwSh is that it was announced at the end of a presentation, in a “If we mutter it, maybe they won’t notice” sort of way, and that many animations were still pretty poor (Cinderace doing “Double kick” without actually, you know, moving its legs, for instance)
For New Pokemon snap, we have seen some very cool animations and interactions, so it stands to reason they can’t do that for all close to 900 seperate pokemon, not to mention that the game would have to be bloody immense to even have space for all of them (In level size, not file size)
"Super Mario advance" was way too low, it's my favourite 2D Mario (I bought it day 1, along with my GBA), it deserves to be... well, at least top half of the list.
@Zeldafan79 “Mystic quest” is really really simplified, 12 spells, a few weapon types with 3 or 4 each, 4 armours, 4 necklaces, 4 shields, all handed out as you progress through the story.
It’s fun enough, especially as an introduction to the RPG genre (As it was to me), but not what i’d personally put in a “10 best SNES RPGs” list...
Two of my favourites (Misdreavus, and my favourite of all, Shaymin) are still out of SwSh, but i'm holding out hope, next year is the franchise's 25th anniversary, yet there's no game announced except "New pokemon snap", it's more likely that they're working on more DLC (Given how successful the current DLC is) than a whole new game...
It would be a very "Game freak" thing to do, removing half the pokedex, only to sell it back to us as DLC, and it would mark the anniversary well, "Yay to us for 25 years! Here are your pokemon back!"
@johnvboy Hold up there, Epic started this whole kerfuffle by taking payments outside of the App-store, circumventing Apple, and i'm pretty sure that in the agreement Epic signed to get Fortnite on there, they have a clause calling that sort of thing "Bad form"
The other IAP-heavy (very IAP-heavy) games play by the rules, so they're not called out.
@sanderev Probably because it's a blocky stick figure (I'd compare it to a LEGO-minifig, but those are way more expressive) that looks utterly out of place with the rest of the characters.
Sakurai also seemed displeased with it too, which actually makes it annoy me more, the whole thing had a "The top brass said..."-vibe to it, you know, along the lines of "Stick that character in the game, the kiddies love Minecraft!"...
@echoplex You can keep shaking trees for stuff, if you only shake each tree once, it admittedly takes a long time, but you can just keep shaking a tree, pinecones or acorns will keep coming out.
@Incarna The reviewer said battles tend to drag on, and players have to backtrack to the not-a-pokecenter very often, both things that are merely annoying, good reason to take a few points off IMO.
@abdias I think the problem isn't so much with "Artificially perfect", as much as "outright impossible", pokemon with moves they can't learn in any of the games, stuff like that.
Hacking is also used to add pokemon with perfect IVs, a specific pokeball and such, that's nigh-impossible to catch (Unless the pokeball is impossible for a particular pokemon), and IMO not as damaging, "Perfect within the game rules" is a whole different thing than pokemon with impossible moves and such.
I played the original, got it on a magazine coverdisk (Anybody remember those?), i loved all "Commander Keen"-games, and most of the other games Apogee would publish, still play them with DosBox...
It’s all very clever and well-done (As expected from Nintendo and Lego), but i wonder where the long-term entertainment value in it is, especially given the quite steep price...
I'm happy that X and Y made #2 of the list, they're my favourites, it appeared on new hardware and actually did something with it (The leap to 3D graphics was quite something for the series), it added EV-training and Pokemon Amie, and to give the dead horse just one extra kick in the ribs, had all pokemon in it. (Even if the ability to get said pokemon into the game took a while to be implemented)
What is it these days, that when everybody isn't lunatic-grin happy, it's immediately "They're so toxic"?
Maybe, juuuust maybe, making a MOBA (A genre nobody asked for) with Tencent (A company that's very dubious at best), without half the gameplay intricacies of either a MOBA (Roles for the characters, apparently the worst LoL game-mode ever as base), or of Pokemon (No type advantages, one of the steries mainstays), is just a bad idea?
I don't get it, how hard is it to have Isabelle tell us which of the visiting NPCs is on the island today, instead of nattering on about TV or missing socks?
I'm personally hoping for more DLC next year, put in the remaining pokemon, add more content to SwSh (If it's in the same style as Isle of armour, it will be great), and give them more time to make the next full game (Whether Gen4 remake or Gen 9) really good.
It's obvious the modchips are for piracy, while backing up savedata without relying on the worst online service in existence (If the game even supports cloud saving) is a nice side-effect, the main purpose of the mod chips is piracy.
Nintendo are doing a pretty bad job in places (Online service, system updates with actual noticeable improvements for the user), but stamping out this mod chip business is a good thing.
@Anti-Matter The DLC is in two parts, “Isle of armour” and the “Crown tundra” one, both versions will have the two parts of DLC, the differences seem to be certain available pokemon and a different trainer or two, so about as different as Sword and Shield were, really.
Still doesn’t quite explain why there have to be two versions of the DLC though, since the data is pretty much the same (All pokemon for both versions have to be in there, for compatibility and trading)
@Rob151 Poor planning? Trying to milk buyers of both versions for two DLC-purchases, more like.
I can let a lot slide with regards to SwSh and the way GF and Nintendo handled it, but selling two versions of the DLC when (As far as we know now) differences are minor does have that feeling of cash-grabbing about it.
@Hagemaru I don't believe that, maybe the always-on online, but the advent of multiplayer and DLC would have happened anyway, selling add-on packs to existing games has been going on for ages, the original SimCity has a couple of add-on packs, and that's 30-odd years ago. (Add-on disks are about the same as DLC, anyway, although selling incomplete games to sell the missing bits as DLC is new)
As for multiplayer everything, that's a good way to make a game last longer, and it removes a lot of the need for expensive cutscenes and stuff.
Announce a game 3 years ago, skip last year's E3 (The main "Look what we're working on"-convention), no news except a monthly "Still working"-tweet, and then act surprised that people are wondering if the game's still coming, okay...
Look on the bright side: At least people still care enough about it to ask! ^_^
I’m still playing it for half an hour to an hour every day, doing the rounds for shops, villagers, fruit, fossils, and if i’m in the mood, shaking trees and hitting some rocks, but the initial high has worn off, i’m not chain-running those random islands anymore, for instance.
@DarkLloyd IMO, Animal crossing only really begins when KK Slider comes to town, then you can customize the island the way you like it, AC isn't a game you "Finish" like you do a Mario game...
It is weird, FF7R was touted to be one of the biggest releases this year (Maybe even the biggest), but to see it get curb-stomped like this... Makes me wonder what went wrong, and where.
Wouldn’t call the dewgong-thing “drama”, it was a bit of an oversight, but no big deal overall, don’t even recall much outcry about it on reddit or anything.
@Donutman Fair enough, but let's compare abandonware with the musical equivalent: Music that hasn't been re-released on streaming services or even CD, would that be ok to be available online through "Abandonmusic"-sites?
I'm not arguing that "Mario 64" should be available free, it's still being published, and is still available through "proper channels", so that's one thing, but claiming all abandonware is piracy is a bit simplistic (Although sites like GoG.com are doing a good job making more classic games available again)
@tendonerd Hence my use of the word "Usually", sure, some of the games are still commercially viable, but most of the games on those sites have been truly abandoned.
If anybody still wonders why people still prefer physical copies of games: Well, because of this. ~_~
Paying for a game and being unable to re-download it because Nintendo can’t be bothered to keep the service up is just a huge ripoff, what if something were to happen to somebody’s console? The console can be replaced, but the games? Nope.

Re: UK Charts: Super Mario 3D World Stays Top As Animal Crossing's Slide Continues
Makes sense, ACNH is almost a year old now, and MK8 is older still, SM3DW is a worthy potential successor for the "What, still on #1?"-trophy. ^_^
Re: Nintendo Download: 11th February (Europe)
No downloads for me, my copy of "Super Mario 3D world" should be coming in tomorrow though. ^_^
I'm old school, if something's available as physical game, i get it physical.
Re: Poll: What's The Best 2D Mario Game?
"Super Mario world" is way up there, but it's beaten by "Super Mario Bros. 2", i love how quirky it is, and throwing enemies around never gets old!
I wish SMB2 would one day get the "New super mario bros."-treatment, new levels, graphical update, the works.
Re: Feature: How Takara Brought SNK's Arcade Fighters To The Humble Game Boy
Like Drewtoo mentioned as well, Takara did a conversion of “Battle arena Toshinden” (A popular PSX series at the time, sadly forgotten now) as well.
Toshinden is not a SNK game, but it’s worth mentioning due to the similarity in style.
Re: Poll: What Was Your Favourite Animal Crossing: New Horizons Event Of 2020?
Halloween and Turkey day, in part because i could get the recipes and other event items from sources other than balloons.
Toy day was amazing too, me going “Awww...” at the villagers’ reactions to the gifts... ^_^
