While an apology is a bit much for what is (to me) a non-issue, a lot of people out there are running everything pokemon-related through a sieve for clues as to which pokemon will be returning in the DLC.
I for one hope that the abundance of merchandise through the years means my buddy Shaymin will be back, for instance, and from that perspective i can see that some people would have gotten their hopes up when Dewgong showed up in that Nessa special.
I played and finished both Pokemon Sword and Shield, and while they’re good games (That need a bit more to do at endgame than just run Max raids, maybe DLC will add something), they’re hardly “Game of the year”-material, sorry...
There is a market for consoles to play the old cartridges on (Look at the RetroN line for instance), i would seriously consider buying an updated version (Think HDMI exit, screen filters like the minis have, that sort of thing) of the NES or SNES.
@KingMike Wayforward did (Still do) a lot of games with other people's IP, and in the early days also a lot of edutainment games, here's a full list (If incomplete, it lists "Shantae: Half genie hero" as upcoming, and no mention of the Switch): https://wayforward.com/all-games-by-platform/
@AlexSora89 For me it's not so much hating "Kingdom hearts" (I played one on the PS2 and it didn't "Click" with me, but that's an aside), it's just that with all the "fire emblem" characters so far, doesn't Smash have enough RPG sword-users by now?
Oh joy, another RPG-character with a sword, so original, you'd think that at some point people would want something added that they don't already have a bunch of in the game...
One thing to keep in mind is that 88% of people buying the DLC doesn't mean that DLC sales will equal 88% of the copies of SwSh sold (Accuracy of the poll aside), i have both games (Bought one, got the other as a gift), but will only be buying DLC for one.
Still, i think the DLC will be a big success, it's better than a third game or pair of sequels, and the "They should have put that in the base game"-argument has been ongoing since Crystal, so suddenly making a big deal out of it is a bit silly, IMO.
@nintendoknife I had that certificate too, for a Gardevoir i caught in the original Pokemon Ruby, it was a cool addition, i also make it a point to run all my favourites through every elite 4, got to rack up those ribbons!
@Heavyarms55 I'm one of the transfer-fans, the games force me to start over from scratch anyway (With the whole "Pokemon won't listen until you have all badges"-thing), but i got attached to some of those pokemon.
It's probably silly, but that's how it works for me, i'm happy to see those familiar pokemon i caught so long ago progress through the hardware generations.
Interesting, they changed the walking/running animations for Primarina, it used to do this seal-like shuffling over the ground, now it swims through the air, wild Primarina in one of the DLC-packs?
The theme was "Freshness added to the game" (FE, i presume), so to showcase that, they put another Fire Emblem character into Smash, i'm not quite sure about the logic there...
Nice bias again NintendoLife, just can’t help yourselves, can you?
That being said, responding only to the one Dexit-poster was probably the most foolish thing Masuda could have done, if you don’t like a comment, don’t highlight it by responding to it, ignore it, and move on, sad fact of life: Everybody who makes anything gets criticism...
@NEStalgia They probably have a lot more, but aren't willing to show it (yet), there was a lot of secrecy surrounding Sword/Shield before the games released too.
Giving us a glimpse at a pile of sketches gets us speculating, and speculation keeps internet buzz going for longer than saying "Here's a bunch of pokemon" and showing them outright.
@jockmahon Where's the benefit in tournaments with huge cash prizes though?
Do we have any numbers on how many people actually watch those tournaments? How many people see a tournament and go "Cool, i want to buy that game now"?
@dew12333 It was simple, and it worked, inbetween the “I want a L100 Arceus for my Pidgey”-trades were plenty of trades with more realistic demands, or putting a trade up myself and keeping on playing while somebody (hopefully) took it, and all without needing a subreddit or Discord server to make arrangements!
@dew12333 I’m not talking about flashcards though, i’m saying that any attempts at stopping hacked pokemon seem to have failed in SwSh, so if removing GTS was for that purpose, it was a bad trade-off.
@dew12333 Do you really, honestly think that SwSh trading isn't full of hacked pokemon?
People are selling hacked pokemon on eBay too (Shiny starters, perfect IVs, level 100, more than 10 available, seems dodgy to me), so if removing GTS was to stop hacked pokemon, and that's a mighty big "if" right there, then it failed miserably.
@TeslaChippie Everything is fine and dandy when you're at the 4th gym, you've yet to reach the unfinished towns for a start (Such shamefully wasted potential...), when you're going through the story it's all good, i felt that way around Gym 4 too.
It's when you finish the 8th gym, Max raids are impossible to solo (And almost as hard to find players for), and battle tower isn't that great either, that basically the bottom falls out of the whole thing...
@PBandSmelly Yeah, funny how now of all times they suddenly kick up such a huge fuss over it, isn't it?
I'm sure the leakers broke either a NDA or street date (Some form of formal agreement anyway), but if they were half as enthusiastic about making the games as they are about prosecuting the leakers, we'd have far better games.
@HammerKirby I played Pokemon Sword, great game, until you finish the story.
Max raids in the wild area were supposed to be for the casual player, and until you get 8 badges they pretty much are, but between the crappy AI characters and the horrible matchmaking system (Worsened by rampant exploiting because it's so horrible), they become a frustrating (In some cases nigh impossible) slog, going from the best feature of the games (Which BTW show obvious signs of rushing) to the very worst.
@edgedino Yeah, but the other pokemon get left behind at the end of the season, Pikachu is the one constant in Ash's pokemon lineup, it should be level 100 three seasons ago...
@MisterDevil That’s the problem with most CCGs, to keep players buying the new stuff, it has to be better than the old, so power-creep is all but inevitable...
@edgedino But if it was that way, Pikachu (The only pokemon to go from one league/country to the other along with Ash) would be immensely overlevelled, how many leagues has Pikachu been to by now?
It's well-deserved, Sword and Shield are great games, there are some signs of it being a bit rushed though, Dexit is an obvious one, but also some of the later towns are "Go here, do the gym, never go here again", which is a bit of a waste, each town has its own theme, and it's sad to see some of them wasted on empty towns with hardly anything to do. (One town is basically a pokecenter and the gym challenge, that's it.)
Maybe in the nigh-inevitable sequel, they'll use the added time to flesh out those towns a bit, upgrade the online-functions, and dare i hope, undo Dexit.
@Zeuseksy It's not so much the perceived "Laziness" (Rather a killer schedule mandated by the anime/merchandise end of the franchise) that gets me, it's the doubletalk, vagueness and outright trying to hide that Dexit is happening (Those early sales though!) that irk me.
There’s something that doesn’t quite add up, one of the review positives is “Bite-sized approach far more suited to casual audiences”, and several other reviews i read (And comments about yesterday’s Anniversary stream) mention battles lasting up to 30 minutes, how can those two things be about the same game?
@DJKeens So Blizz cancelled the event, nothing on their social media, leaving Nintendo to say "Remember that event? It's not happening" for them, i don't see any factual inaccuracies, acting like it's bad form to cancel an event on such short notice and suggesting a possible link to the Blitzchung PR-disaster is hardly a huge leap either.
That being said, Blizzcon is going to be interesting, that's something they can't just cancel, well, not without another PR disaster, anyway.
@Yodalovesu They're doing the same with Pokemon sword/shield, GameFreak just adore their little secrets and reveal as little as they can get away with in trailers.
On one hand it doesn't spoil much of the game, on the other, it's hard to get hyped when you don't know anything about the games...
@pedroemas I'm sure Serebii.net will have people working shifts to note down every pokemon scampering past the camera in that stream, but i agree, nobody else is going to watch 24 hours of that stream, although i don't think that's the point, imagine all the people who will be watching at least a bit of it...
The history of GameFreak: Faffing about for 9 years making... they did that yoshi puzzler on Gameboy, right? They stumbled on a goldmine by making pokemon, and have been making pokemon games for the last 20 years. And now they're frantically looking for anything other than pokemon that people will give a toss about. Well, i think i covered that pretty well, and didn't even need a video stream to do it!
My old SNES developed a sound issue (R-side sound doesn’t come through), and my GBC’s start-button sticks and responds poorly, considering all the Nintendo-hardware i have that’s not bad at all...
You know, this could be part of the "Role to play" for pokemon stuck in Pokemon home, sending them on pokejobs through the app or whatever, getting items to send to the main Sw/Sh game...
@patbacknitro18 No offense, but by that definition, the original Gameboy isn't dead yet, sure, it has been out of non-retro stores for 15 or so years, but people are still playing Gameboy games! ^_^
Commercially speaking, the 3DS is dead, but that's alright, it had a good run, and there are plenty of games available for it (online anyway, where i live, stores are selling what stock they have left, and that's it), and on occasion i'll still play some games on it, like i do with all my other retro systems.
While the extra battery life is a (Very nice) upgrade, i mostly play in console mode anyway, so why buy a new one for just that?
Over its lifespan, i bought 3 different 3DS consoles, a regular one, an XL one because i have big hands, and then a New 3DS XL, i managed to sell off the older ones, but i think i'll try getting through the Switch-generation with fewer upgrades anyway.
