I doubt Switch will outsell PS2 by now, rumours about new hardware are incessant (And let's be fair here, it's about time), 26 million more units is a lot to shift for a console that's 6 years old.
I disagree, i live in the Netherlands, where we just didn’t have those events (Or only at stores/conventions that were nowhere near my home), so up to 3DS, i simply missed out on all distributions, yay, wasn't that fun…
Only in the 3DS era did they start with distributions of those code sheets (Pre-order ORAS and get a code for Diancie, my first legit mythical), at least they did that at a toy store chain that had shops all over the country.
On one hand, Nintendo are taking a quite different approach, by not focusing on powerful hardware, but on the other hand, the Switch is a games console, so of course it's in the same market as Sony and Microsoft.
@Mauzuri These films on Twitter show us the reason why they're hiding though, to be found is to be crucified, shot at, blown up, roasted, launched into high orbit, or worse!
What could go wrong? Well, Nintendo could get too creative, adding a gimmick that doesn't catch on but does raise costs (And as such, price), remember that 3DS was a success despite the 3D (And the screens that were low-res as a result), not because of it.
Just do a more powerful Switch, everybody loves the Switch, the only big downside is its lack of power, address that and we're all set.
@Mauzuri I'm happy for you that you're satisfied with the games, they're good games at heart, but they've obviously been rushed out the door to keep in step with the ever-hungry merchandise beast.
And let's be honest here, replacing one set of bugs with an even bigger bug (People put a lot of time into those save-games) is just downright bad.
@Luigi05 That was in one location (So easily avoided), and it was fixed in weeks, with SV we're 4 months in, there's still performance issues, and the patches add more (And worse) problems than they fix.
SV should have gotten more time for optimizing, that would have prevented this whole mess outright, no need to rush out buggy patches if the game functions properly out of the box.
It's sad really, this is all because it was so terribly rushed.
I feel bad for the programmers and designers, their game (And by extension, they themselves) are getting ragged on because management didn't give them the time to do things right in the first place (No programmer starts a project thinking "Ok, let's make this suck!"), all for a quick buck and new pokemon to sell cards and stuff of...
As often in these articles, it's a bit skewed towards nostalgia.
I understand that OoT Hyrule field was a major moment in the series, an awe-inspiring moment in a gamer's life (It was for me), maybe even significant in gaming history in general, but compared to some of the others on its own merits... It's a vast, mostly empty plain connecting the areas where interesting stuff happens.
@sanderev I figure that's one of the "Further features not listed in the patch notes" they're talking about (It's about time for Home-support, anyway), no idea why they'd want to keep that so secret, though...
Well, it's not like he's going to come out and say "Yeah, we're just stalling for time", is he?
Switch has been out for 6 years, that's a ripe old age for any game console (Commercially, anyway), but Nintendo won't admit that things are winding down (Killing sales in the process) until the next console is almost there.
"Tetris" is undeniably a great and important Gameboy game, but that's more due to historical significance (It was just the perfect title for the Gameboy at its launch and definitely helped push consoles in those early times), than because of gameplay merit.
That's fairly meagre, that does give credence to the "Nintendo are switching development to the next console"-rumours, well, that and that the Switch is pretty old by now.
@iLikeUrAttitude No, they won because they successfully covered their ass against this sort of thing in the license agreement, it's a small but very important distinction to make.
One does wonder how "We won because we disallowed suing us over our crappy controllers" looks PR-wise, but still...
Like most early 3D-era games, visually it aged like milk, none of the PSX/N64 era games look good when you look at them today, the developers counted on CRT TVs and their inherent image fuzziness to cover up the worst of it, but nowadays everybody has LED-TVs, which just highlights the issues. (You can pretty much count the polygons in those screenshots)
The true value of "Goldeneye 007" lies in what it did for the shooter genre, it introduced stealth as a factor (It was all "DOOM"-like "Run around and kill everything" up to then), as well as objectives beyond "Reach the end of the level" or "Kill the baddies", the sniper rifle brought that type of weapon into the genre, expanding weaponry from the "Gun, bigger gun, even bigger gun"-level.
Maybe i'm seeing hints where there aren't any, but i find the emphasis on "Enjoy the games 100 times more", for lack of a better phrase, oddly specific.
For Nintendo, i prefer physical (They hardly ever do big sales, especially on the major titles), you forgot "Can be sold on if you're done with a game" as a pro for physical games.
For PC, digital isn't a problem, but there they heavily discount even major releases fairly frequently, and not being able to sell on a game i got for €5 or €10 isn't as big a deal as being stuck with a €60 game...
2022 was fairly meh to me personally, not many of the games that were released interest me, and one game i was looking forward to (Advance wars) was delayed indefinitely (If they're waiting for Russia and Ukraine to kiss and make up, they've got a long wait ahead of them), my Switch has been 95% "Animal crossing", with a replay or two of the "Link's awakening"-remake.
Things only perked up a bit more at the end of the year because i bought "Pokemon violet", but otherwise, 2022 was pretty a pretty weak year for me. (Not everybody gets all riled up over "Bayonetta 3", "Splatoon 3", "Fire emblem" or "Mario and Rabbids")
This looks interesting, i'm still holding out hope for a new 2D Super Mario game in the SMB2-style, Nintendo haven't done anything in that style since the SMB3-remake on Gameboy advance added throwable turnips to the game (With those e-cards, seems like i'm one of the very few to have bought those), but this game looks like a fun title to hold me over for a bit.
@GamerGrandpa Yeah, but Kojima had nothing to do with it, it's not canon, and it was strongly influenced by American action movies, Snake looks like Arnold Schwarzenegger in it.
The true second "Metal gear"-game is "Metal gear: Solid snake", released for MSX, that was a bonus game (Along with the MSX-version of the original) with a few of the remakes, IIRC.
Also interesting to note is that GOG.com (A Steam-like website specializing in retro games) sells a PC-port of the original MSX "Metal gear".
What also helps a lot in many cases is that the textures improved a lot, fur looks like actual fur, steel pokemon now look properly metallic (Like Forretress in that screenshot)
Pokemon shining Pearl was the first pokemon game i ever bought (And i've been buying them since Red) that i never could bring myself to finish, everything was just so... meh, all the way through, and after getting badge #8 i just stopped slogging through it.
I personally wouldn't "Award" those games a bent nickel, TBH.
@rjejr It's not so much that it's too soon to release a new system, IIRC DS and 3DS both had upgrades by this time in their life cycle, but right now there's a chip shortage going on, so Nintendo can barely procure the parts to keep up with demand for consoles as-is, let alone the surge in demand that a new system would bring.
Only scalpers are happy when a system releases with insufficient stock to meet demand.
@rjejr It’s about a new Switch, hence the mention of new hardware. (Splatoon 2 is long enough ago that sales cannibalizing isn’t really an issue anymore)
Also, a new version of the console is just an ever-so-slightly bigger undertaking than publishing a sequel to a game, especially with the current issues getting the microchips for even the regular ol’ Switch, let alone the stock required to properly launch a new version of it (The Switch, just for extra clarity)
Nintendo can hardly supply enough regular Switches to meet demand, and people still expect them to somehow design, manufacture, and ship a sizeable supply of a new version?
It doesn't even make sense from a business standpoint if they actually could do that, the original still sells like hotcakes, why divide the market? Because it's obvious that new hardware would lead to "Only runs (properly) on New Switch"...
Good selection of tracks, Kalimari desert is my favourite from N64 Mario Kart, Waluigi pinball is amazing too (Can't wait to see it in HD, the 3DS screen is a bit... lacking), the Sydney and New York tracks look fun too, i love tracks in cities.
Why stop there? Push it back 10 more years! I mean, there's bound to still be a war somewhere next year...
I mean, what's happening in Ukraine is horrible, i understand that, but pushing back war-related games because there's a war on is just... where does it end?

Re: Poll: Super Mario All-Stars Is 30 Years Old - Do You Prefer The NES Or SNES Versions Of The Classics?
The All-stars versions are improvements on the originals, but the definitive versions of both SMB2 and SMB3 are the GBA ports! ^_^
Re: Random: Mario Kart 8 Deluxe's Sunset Wilds Is Missing One Key Thing
@Laserbeak1982 In all fairness, this is a rather blatant (Albeit purely visual) issue, the sun setting is the defining theme of the track.

Re: Nintendo Announces Everybody 1-2-Switch!, Pre-Orders Now Live
This is the legendary game that was so bad, the testers couldn't be bothered to play it, right? (I recall articles about it sometime last year)
I don't like to be pessimistic, but the bottom of the barrel seems to be in sight for Switch if they trot this out to pad the release schedule.
Re: Pokémon HOME Getting Scarlet And Violet Support In Update Next Week
I'll file this under "I'll believe it when i see it", TBH.
Re: Expect More Open-World Zelda Games Going Forwards, Suggests Eiji Aonuma
Well, that's (IMO) a shame, BotW never "Clicked" with me, and i'm not going to take a €70 gamble that TotK will suit me better.
I prefer the "Classic" Zelda-games, guess i'll just hope for a "Link's awakening"-style update/remake of the 2D games then.

Re: Nintendo Reconfirms Release Windows For Upcoming Switch Games, And It's Slim Pickings
Yeah, the Switch seems to be winding down, i figure we'll get an announcement of the next Nintendo console (Whatever it will be) sometime this year.
Re: Some Advance Wars Physical Owners Are Having Trouble Redeeming Gold Points
It's probably easy enough for Nintendo to fix (Adjust a date in the store database), but... really?
It's a bit of a silly thing to happen, especially since (IMO) the reason for the delay was a bit weak.
Re: Poll: How Many 3DS Consoles Have You Owned?
Three of them, a regular 3DS, a "Geez, my hands are too big for this small one" 3DS XL, and a New 3DS XL
An amazing console (Even with the meh screen), with a lot of great games for it.

I don’t spend double-digit amounts on a single card often, but i’m still shocked at people plopping down six-figure sums on them.

A lot of old things and DLC in there, they're definitely buying time for the next console here...

A 1008 pokemon pokerap would be fun, if they do it like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EQRKz5tYo8Q
It's not a Rickroll (Really!), it's from the original "Animaniacs"-show, where Yakko Warner sings all the words in the English language.

The NES original (Sort of, it was a heavily-altered port of a game on the MSX) will always have a special place in my heart.
It was the game where i got my in-game habit of collecting everything i can, purely for the satisfaction of a well-filled inventory screen...
