Re: The Pokémon Creative Team Has Been "Through A Lot" With Angry Fan Feedback

MysticX

There’s a Dutch proverb, which translates to “Tall trees catch a lot of wind”, the Pokemon franchise is one of the biggest in the business, of course there will be rude, nasty and/or unpleasant people, it’s not nice, it sucks when you have to deal with them, but it’s a fact of life.

That being said, the lack of ambition in recent entries (Dexit combined with the “For better graphics”-lie, BDSP not being feature complete even after the 3Gb day 1 patch) is terrible, the whole thing smacks of “Meh, they’ll buy it anyway”, which is a bad attitude for a developer, because at some point, no idea when, people will stop buying it.

Re: Talking Point: Remember When People Thought Switch Would Fail?

MysticX

I used to be concerned about the battery life, but now i have my own place (So my own TV too, with nobody to argue about what's on ), it shifted to the price of games, since with a place of my own comes rent as well...

I was mainly a handheld gamer before Switch (I played DS and 3DS during the Wii/WiiU period), so paying "TV-console" rates for games is quite a price hike.

Re: Rumour: Insider Says N64 Is Coming To Switch Online, Believes It Will Introduce A "Higher-Priced" Subscription Tier

MysticX

@RadioHedgeFund It was Nintendo's first console with true 3D Graphics (The few FX-chip games on SNES don't make it a 3D console IMO), so that was sort-of revolutionary, but IMO most games from that era aged pretty poorly, more so than NES/SNES, so i don't know how many people are going to go "Oh boy! N64 games! Gotta get me a Switch Online subscription!"

Re: Unavailability Of Classic Titles Is "Holding Game Culture Back", Says Platinum's Hideki Kamiya

MysticX

While i understand that the license-situation surrounding many titles is complicated, the IP-holder is involved, the developer (Or the company who bought up the developer), and so on, but so many games are for the average person outright unattainable right now.

There's also the battery-factor, save data on cartridges will be at risk due to batteries dying, which can also cause trouble, so re-releases on modern hardware would be awesome, people are plenty willing to pay for those games, just not inflated collector prices.

I got a flash cart for my GBA last year, excellent investment, i can put stacks of games (With a market value of "I'm happy not knowing") on there, save data is secure, i can play romhacks and all.

It's not like i'm being literally forced (I can always not play those games), but face it, if i want to play old games and i don't own them yet (I never got rid of my old systems and games), it's a lot more affordable.

Re: Random: Nintendo Fan Collects Every Game Boy Game In Just Two Years

MysticX

@HammerGalladeBro You're really lucky, here in the Netherlands it's pretty bad (Aside from Covid shutting down almost all swap meets and such), my last big find was "Ducktales 2" for NES a few years ago, but 99% of games at swap meets are bulk PSX/2/3 games, those are common as muck, but beyond that, very few cartridge-games, and usually expensive.

Re: Random: In Case You Didn't Know, There Are Now 900 Pokémon

MysticX

@Dr_Lugae True, catching ‘em all has become a huge undertaking, for me personally it’s more about bringing along long-cherished pokemon.

My Platinum-event Shaymin, pre-order event Diancie, Primarina who took me through Pokemon Moon, a Gardevoir i caught in Ruby on my GBA, Misdreavus that followed me for over a decade, my recent bestie Cinderace, all with every ribbon i could get for them (Shaymin has several championship ribbons)

I grew to care about these little blobs of data, and it feels bad to set off on a (semi-) new adventure and having to leave most of them behind… (Yeah, i know i’m a sappy git.)

Re: Pokémon HOME Will Support Diamond And Pearl Remakes And Legends: Arceus From 2022

MysticX

Alright! So... what can we do with them once they're in Home? (Except sorting them by NatDex number or something)

I remember the promise of "Gameplay functions" in PokeHome, i guess that went the way of "Pokemon Sleep", though.

I'll keep saying it: It feels bad to go into a new game and having to leave so many of my favourite pokemon behind, some of which have been moving from game to game with me for years, call it sappy, but i love those pokemon.

I love collecting ribbons on my pokemon for instance (My ambition being to make them look like North Korean generals with all the ribbons), well, no contest ribbons for most of my favourites, since i doubt pokemon like Primarina or Cinderace will make it into BDSP...

Re: Random: In Case You Didn't Know, There Are Now 900 Pokémon

MysticX

@Chamver They once did a “favourite pokemon” poll (On Reddit, IIRC), only two pokemon (Both pre-evolutions) didn’t get votes, so any cuts will anger and/or disappoint (At the very least annoy) people.

They could stop or slow down with adding new pokemon, but removing existing ones entirely? Bad idea.

Re: Random: In Case You Didn't Know, There Are Now 900 Pokémon

MysticX

At the risk of pulling open a whole can of worms over Dexit: I'd like a game where i get to try to catch 'em all again. (Or at least have a team of my favourites)

It still doesn't feel right, a new game where i'll have to leave behind pokemon i really like (Different ones, this time around, but still...)

I'll still buy one of the BDSP-games (Not sure which, would like some info on version differences before deciding), not sure about Legends: Arceus though, i'm not really a fan of open-world games...

Re: Sword And Shield Leakers Required To Pay The Pokémon Company $150K Each

MysticX

Yeah right, piling crushing debt on them for leaking a few pictures, "Irreperable damage" my ass, the games sold great, any damage done to the Pokemon brand was after people played them.

I know NDAs are such a very big deal, but piling $150K fines on individuals is rather extreme, they'll be stuck in debt for years, possibly for life, nobody deserves that over a few blurry photos of video game characters...

Re: Talking Point: E3 Leaks Are Inevitable, But Do You Actually Want To Know?

MysticX

I don't understand something: Why is an early reveal apparently so much less fun than an official one? (It's the same information, so why does the timing matter?)

Purely from the angle of "Ooh, surprising!", wouldn't a leak be just as surprising as an official reveal?

Or is it a formatting thing? That sitting through the preamble of an official reveal is better than reading a list in unformatted text?

I'm not trolling, i just honestly don't see the difference, but then again, i usually just check news-sites for a recap, anyway...

Re: Soapbox: Is It Time For Game Rental Stores To Return?

MysticX

While i miss going out to the video rental place to rent a game for the weekend (And discovered several great games and exposed cool-looking duds that way), the way games are these days with updates, on-system saves and such, i don't think it would work very well nowadays.
