Not surprised by the frame rate as another case of Unreal Engine 5 stutter.
I get going from $300 to a more powerful $450 system people expectations rise, especially compared to the Steam Deck, but I've honestly grown accustomed to sub-30 frame rates for 8 years and not as bothered as others are. Definitely not unplayable like Ark at launch.
Rather see old releases like this as it was $60 back in 2018; still dumb of another case of a multimillionaire choosing a third party distributor, even with how successful the Switch has been for Bethesda (with both Indiana Jones and Fallout getting the green light on Switch 2.)
@Toastmaster What you mean? The biggest challenge would be the multiplayer servers, not them being outright old.
The first game ran on id Tech 3, which is already ported to Switch - Jedi Outcast and Jedi Academy. Hell, Activision went through the trouble of commissioning Treyarch to port both their and Infinity Ward's games to Call of Duty from scratch on the Wii, with Call of Duty 4 being released two years after it's debut!
360 and PS3 ports on old or outdated tech has had varied degrees on success on the Switch - Lara Croft: Guardian of Light, Alan Wake, Kingdoms of Amalur, Need for Speed, Burnout Paradise, Alien Isolation, Ghostbusters, and a bunch of THQ ports like Darksiders and Red Faction to name a handful.
And that doesn't include games with tech still used today, albeit heavily modified, like Assassin's Creed and Rebellion games like Sniper Elite.
Just like that 10 year Nintendo Call of Duty commitment, Phil?
Dude can't even commission a studio to PORT any of the original 360 games in the meantime.
Says a lot Bethesda is already locked in with Indiana Jones and Fallout 4 coming out next year while Activision (and Blizzard for that matter) are twiddling their thumbs expecting a Tony Hawk Pro Skater remaster with cut content (the whole single player layout of the fourth game) will suffice.
@PKDuckman Month late (as I'm trying to find an update on this,) but they only lost the exclusive rights. Similar to when EA lost the exclusivity rights to Star Wars - they can continue making them, but others now can as well (see Lego 2K Drive and Horizon Adventures.)
@AmplifyMJ If this was, let's say, CD Projekt Red before the original launch of Cyberpunk, then people would have a point of being caught with an egg in their face, but this is Ubisoft. They haven't been doing too hot the last couple of years, so it's unsurprising that people would believe the port was terrible.
Another reason I haven't bought Lego 2K Drive; once those servers go offline, ZERO is playable when there very well could be an offline mode. Even EA used to support their games for years, but once there was no more sport title competition, now they'll sunset servers whenever they feel like it.
@Glasso Try out the second, it has a demo available and has more going on compared to the first. I, too, was underwhelmed with the first game, but loved the second.
Thought that was a great Direct from Nintendo's side - lots of new announcements and release windows.
Still disappointed on the third-party support, Resident Evil Requiem is a good get, but I wish the remakes came out as well. Also wish there was a surprise Silent Hill 2 port in the works.
I think there's an error that the new Fire Emblem is coming to the first Switch as well.
With the reasonable explanations of the game cartridges not being able to load in assets quick enough and the surprise quality of the port, I would have bought this if it wasn't a Ubisoft game that will inevitably go on sale in the coming months - this may actually have me buy it before then!
@Coffeeglitch I wouldn't be surprised if they were working on the Switch 2 version during or a little after its debut on other consoles; a RedLynx employee had the Switch 2 port as their project on their LinkedIn for about a years length. Since it failed on other platforms, Ubisoft probably bit the bullet as even they were a strong supporter of the Wii U a little longer than other publishers, but they're not willing to risk more money to advertise it (the Nintendo Directs were probably enough in their eyes.)
As someone who enjoyed Outlaws with a Ubisoft+ month membership, I still don't understand the logic of porting it to Switch out of all the other series the first generation didn't even touch. Far Cry, any of the AnvilNext 2.0 games, The Division, and the first one they choose for the Switch 2 is their failed Star Wars IP.
@SBandy1 I agree either way, but if the Snowdrop Engine can run on the Switch, it looks more likely Ubisoft with pull through on the Switch 2. How it handles the open world will be interesting to see though
While I'm not saying Arkham Knight runs great, but I was surprisingly able to work with it even during the Batmobile sections.
Too bad they made it worse by attempting to decrease the resolution while still having the same performance. Thank goodness the next Nintendo console is backwards compatible!
@Ohmytoogood There's no way to cookie cut the trollster's name - it only has one meaning and while I'm not agreeing with them, @sunspotty is right on what they say.
It would finally be time for Ubisoft to port Splinter Cell as one of the last few Wii U ports that never transitioned; sure it's more action focused, but the AI is still impressive today
I'm honestly expecting F-Zero to be the Gamecube port, with F-Zero 99 and the GBA releases putting the spotlight back on it. In a perfect world, I'd love Chibi Robo and Eternal Darkness (which would go along well with the positive Silent Hill 2 Remake reception.)
Honestly, Nintendo could port over the 3DS Style Savvy game as their 3DS library was all quality... maybe except Chibi Robo Ziplash and Go Pikmin
> "you could argue that fans desperate to get their hands on [the developer version] aren't likely to buy legit copies when the game releases anyway."
I don't understand this statement, you'd think the people that want to get their hands on it are the biggest Pokemon fans, who will buy the next game. Of course, there's always outliers to anything, but odd thing to point out.
Only group I could think of that being the case would be hackers and modders that want to get some type of head start before it releases next year.
I'd be ecstatic, but out of the main team, only the director and head artist are the ones that still work at Creative Assembly. Who knows, maybe lightning will strike twice and the new blood will give something different but exciting. Plus the two developers that are still at CA are seemingly the most important as the writers were outsourced.
I'd bet either after the Vs Professor Layton (hopefully) eventual re-release, they're going to remake the original trilogy before they even attempt to do anything completely new
Xbox: Gets cocky after Xbox 360, pushes for an always online console
Sony: Gets cocky after PS4, releases a tablet that's just a second screen (something the Vita could do for PS3 and PS4) for $200 and has a mid gen refresh that's an extra $200 compared to the base model that plays the same games.
Even the PS4 Pro and Xbox One X's had competitive prices! They 100% can't blame inflation.
@Sabruka If I remember correctly, it was critically disappointing (with a few exceptions,) but did sell well with the first game selling over 1 million on the DS alone.
Jools needs to step down as a head developer if he doesn’t know how to (or hire somebody who will) communicate without any bull. Both Cuphead and Hollow Knight knew their situations, so near the end of their life cycles, they just said, “It will be ready when it’s ready.”
You’re an indie developer, Jools; you have no stockholders to please with the numerous amount of exact release dates.
@wingweaver84 There isn’t. Only people that can play it are ones that bought it before the Bedrock Edition replaced it and it never got a physical release - only the Bedrock Edition did. The original version was only up for 13 months.
This was a great game for an ungodly number of hours for a F2P mobile game until you hit the paywall to completely finish levels in the ‘campaign’ (later outright preventing without grinding or paying upfront.)
I hope I’m able to get the same amount of hours with the update.
I can’t believe we’re in the timeline where Wreckfest 2 will be released before Dangerous Driving 2 / Wreckreation. The first one actually came out being great even when the game was called Next Car Game.
Three Fields Entertainment are just as bad as Nacon with Test Drive Unlimited 3; hyped up announcement in 2020 just to say it’s coming in 12 months… and then another 12 months… and so on until 2024. Announce it when it’s almost ready, not when you’re starting development!
@Serpenterror The higher ups at Warner Bros. and NetherRealms still had the power to not continue supporting it and give Shiver nothing since they’d have nothing to work for (especially if it didn’t sell well.)

I would have also loved to have Camilla Luddington back as a grizzled post-Shadow Lara, similarly to Nick Apostolides' RE4R Leon Kennedy vs RE2R.

Re: Talking Point: What Game Should Be 'Switch 2's 'Skyrim Moment'?
For the goofs, I want to match the 'Skyrim-moments' with the closest equivalent that got to be on the Switch
Elden Ring - Dark Souls Remastered
Red Dead Redemption 2 - Red Dead Redemption
Call of Duty - Overwatch
Cyberpunk 2077 - The Witcher III
Resident Evil 4 Remake - getting every Ace Attorney game remastered (make your move, Level-5!)
Final Fantasy VII - Dragon Quest XI
Street Fighter 6 - Marvel vs Capcom Collection
Fallout 4 - the true Skyrim moment
Grand Theft Auto V - LA Noire
Monster Hunter Wilds - Monster Hunter Rise
Baldur's Gate 3 - Divinity: Original Sin II
If history repeats itself, it will be good eatings.
