@Tsusasi I do believe they are trying to sell it cheaply to appease the public opinion. If they charged more they would be accused of charging too much. It's an impossible situation. They should just concentrate on Switch.
Nintendo should rather focus on making a great virtual console collection along with wireless controller replicas of nes and snes. I'd probably pay 79$ for that snes selection along with a wireless snes controller for switch. I don't have room for the snes mini in my life though, cool as it looks.
If nintendo just charged a lot more for them, there would be no problem. They would make more money, they WOULD increase production, and prices would come down eventually. It's all caused by a misplaced attempt at being nice and keep prices low. However, this might of course divert attention within Nintendo from being an innovating games company, to becoming a lazy reseller of their own past products, which I could understand if many at Nintendo want to avoid.
If I had made a pre-order, and saw that people would pay double or triple price for it, I would also sell it. I suspect most would. I think scalpers are not creating a problem. The problem is Nintendo does not want to make money, thus there are not enough of these things. The price will be the same in the end whether scalpers are the ones selling, or just people who change their mind. It is probably lower considering a few people would not bother or know how to sell it again.
Being really angry and publicly wishing bad things on scalpers though, that is a problem in my opinion.
@Menchi187 yes, you are right. But also there, looking beyond standard stock market metrics, I think Nintendo needed to experiment and find new ways to be interesting. I think the switch would not happen without the Wii u, and the switch could become a big success business wise. Very few manage to distill perfect ideas every time, and Nintendo needs to be different to even exist, so it did relatively well as a way to feed the core fans, and get a few new ones even among younger kids. Don't get me wrong, I see what you mean. And if switch is not a big success that can make up previous losses, I will regard Wii U itself a failure (with some great games). But I think this style of console/portable is the future, and Nintendo has a great chance of building something great with it.
@Menchi187 The Wii U had its problems. But I disagree it was a failure. It has some of my favourite games. That is a success for me. It did fail bringing in third party support though. But honestly, I wouldn't have had time to play those anyway.
@gb_nes_gamer off TV play is what most games used the Wii u pad successfully for though. I don't think a ton of communication would have changed that. Playing a game on two screens that are not immediately visible in front of you simply sucks. I think Nintendo realized this and decided to do off TV play properly, and that is how the switch was born. The only good use of the Wii u was in multiplayers having secret views.
@NEStalgia I think they should put them up for the price they are going for from these "scalpers". Then they would make so much money that they would not dare not make more, thus lowering the price eventually. I have owned every single Nintendo system, and have bought them all in a local store at normal prices. I'd love this system, but I am simply not stressing out trying to get it, nor paying a lot
I'm simply not buying it for a very high prize. The fact is that Nintendo decides how many to make. If it's more popular than what is supplied it will be expensive for the majority of people to get. Only sad Nintendo is not the ones charging the high price. Being angry is like hating on gravity when you fall. It's just the way of reality. Get on with your life.
It's not revolutionary. But every generation shouldn't be, as then you'll always get Wii U's. It is a refinement of everything good nintendo has made the last 10 years. I had the Wii and Wii U, but so many things irritated me about them that I felt I was fighting the hardware to get to the games. Once playing they were great, but really lacked a lot in usability. 3DS was a good portable, but being able to play on the TV when I want is exactly what is needed to have me coming back. The only thing that confuses me now is that metroid returns is not coming to the Switch. I just sold my 3ds 😞
When I saw this movie, I thought it was mostly acting and mostly made up. I guessed the actual video game playing and record setting was real, but that they all would want to make it a bit more interesting and agreed to exaggerate the rivalry. It just didn't seem realistic. All the lines were too perfect. Yes, like watching star wars. It was very entertaining though.
While the single player is an OK game for sure, the multi-player in this game makes it one of the best if not the best game of all time for me. You can get really skilled, and some of the battle arenas are perfect. Even if it didn't have a single player at all I would give it 10/10 as a multi-player title. I really feel there should be two ratings for this game though, since if you are looking for a single player game it is maybe a 7 or even a 6.
There are and were tons of home hardware hacking magazines around. It's just not geared towards greedy people who just want to copy for free what others made. I think that is a good development in the readers of similar magazines that they no longer learn to hack for such reasons. I don't see why it's better to learn hacking for copying other people's work without their blessing, instead of to create something new of value oneself.
If the review score should mean anything it should be how much the reviewer recommends someone interested to play the game at the time of writing. For Lego City there are much better alternatives, for example botw. Mario kart is simply the best in its genre. If you are considering it, you won't find better alternatives. Review scores should never attempt to be some sort of magic universal number that magically encompasses the feelings and opinions of everyone with feeling or opinions about the game. That is not possible or desireable.
@roadrunner343 That is good. Everyone's different. I guess it's nice to get that little bonus for those who do want all these little figures lying about.
Pikmin 3 was the first game I that came to mind. It's one of the best games I ever played. I would like to see Mario Maker as I never had that. Also Art Academy I would like to get if it came with a stylus, as I really liked it on Wii U, but it would be better as a portable and with a capacitive screen.
As an older gamer I find the switch to be perfect. I can play on the train. In my bed. While the wife is watching TV. I haven't played this much since the N64 days. Even so, I haven't finished any of the 5 games I have bought. How anyone could find the games library lacking already is beyond me.
I feel like I'm playing the switch too much already. I wish the good games would come a bit slower so I didn't get overwhelmed. I mean the n64 was my favourite console, and I had like 6 or 7 games for it through all those years. I already own 4 games for the switch and am worried I won't get to play through them all before even more arrive. How can people find so much time for playing it all?
I'm going to try and not let this affect my decision to buy the game or not. I realised I am making the same mistake I am accusing playtronics for if I don't get it simply because they did this. I disagree with it, I have said it, that is enough.
@legendwaker I support playtonics right to do what they want. However, I don't like it one bit. I think it is good that people can say what they mean without fear of reprisals in irrelevant arenas like this.
I think that is incredibly bad. How can you in the same press release say you want diversity in all forms and then remove the voice of someone who has a different opinion on something. I will have second thoughts on supporting this game now. I don't know what this guys opinions are, and I don't care. For example lots of religious people have absolutely abhorrent opinions, I will still work with them and appreciate what good they can contribute with, even be their friends. Doing the opposite only serves to polarize and make people more set in their ways of thinking.
While I support the existence of emulators for history's sake, I think this is not good at all. Focus on older hardware and games that are not being sold anymore. Why would you not want to support the people that create what you presumably like in stead of potentially undermining them?
I don't think this is so bad. Perhaps even good for ease of use. It's easy to create accounts. When you start a game switch will ask me at least which account to start the game with. It kind of bad to then have another selection screen in the game. I think this is part of a drive to make the UI easier and quick to use.
I don't think reviews should compare technical things. Simply convey through the score how much value the title gives (given you enjoy the type of game play) as if it were only available in the reviewed iteration. Otherwise reviews become impossible and useless. A perfect score shouldn't mean it's perfect. It should mean you think this is one of the best games for the given platform.
To me it seems Nintendo will replace these if you have a problem. I know most people don't really read the statements, but simply get angry because they claim they have not received widespread complaints. But they did explicitly say they were taking care of any problems people are complaining about.
I have brought my Switch to the local mountain where there is a nice café, where my wife and I played Snipperclips. I simply kept it in my jackets inner pocket when walking up. Worked perfectly. With a screen protector, there is no need for a case in my opinion.
The statement is saying that the issue does exist, and that any complaints are being met. I don't think this warrants getting upset over, even if they might be underestimating the scope of it right now. The important part is that they are going to handle the controllers that do have issues regardless of how many that may be.
You'll get that value back when you are still able to play the games in 10 years, or sell them. I don't think there is a good reason to not allow games to be cheaper digitally, though. If consumers really want digital versions, then it's win-win, if they don't they will still buy the physical. If anything, it would help sell the higher price for switch games if gamers could see that digital is in fact not more expensive. They could even offer stores to sell empty game-boxes with only a download code or something inside.
Well, I suspect those who have this issue has been waiting for an update or other statement from Nintendo before doing anything. Now there will probably be a lot of repair/replacement requests after this.
I didn't notice framerate problems until once today, and it didn't really affect gameplay. I'm sure if you look for it, it's there, but I don't really notice it. The fact I can easily bring the console with me is just awesome. And the UI is perfect, fast and does exactly what I need. Sleep mode is awesome. I love it. Really hope Nintendo doesn't make the UI difficult like on all other consoles, or slow like wii u. The most amazing part is that the controllers charge without wires. I hate wires and replaceable batteries. Wii u gives me a headache (although I absolutely adore the games on it). Switch is a console for people who wants hassle free gaming, often in short bursts.
I haven't had this much fun with a console since Nintendo 64. I have experienced the disconnect twice, and although it was annoying for a second, it did almost nothing to detract from the fun. I do hope my screen doesn't scratch though.
