They shouldn't release this, unless they charge something like 120 £. I would play this so much, it would displace my buying other games. If it was on the switch, mind you.
Wtf? Are people upset about Nkntendo Online too? I'm happy about it, and I play online like a few time a year and mostly play snes games from time to time. Sure, I'd like more, always more, gimme gimme, but it's a service, it does what it does. Is there something wrong with it? It is really cheap, that is for sure, is that what people don't like?
No gaming experience, awesome as they can be, can hold a candle to taking my 3 year old to evening song and play at the local church, to a gathering of the community, watching the joy on everybodys faces, those moments of contact, the smiles on children faces as they run around in awe of everything.
Everybody says Rune Factory 5. But I watched the trailer, and it doesn't even seem to have anything to do with farming. Looks more like a Final Fantasy.
Though I'm sure it grew in 2020, it is not as simple as comparing numbers. A switch costs double the amount of a SNES, and then comes all the ridiculously expencive accessories one needs to play 2 player games, and games are more expensive, etc. And my controllers broke, so I had to buy new, which never happened to SNES controllers. And so on. Also, the fact that people throw money after something doesn't always mean it's more popular in real terms. I played probably 4 hours every day as a child, while now it's a lot less. But I have so much money that I just buy games I never even play.
It doesnt't look interesting like DKC 1, 2 and 3 though. And is the music as good? I've come to the conclusion that the music is the primary reason why loved DKC and why I keep returning, and the levels and maps are enticing to walk through as well. Freeze had really irritating sounds that break the spell of the world you are in, which is why I abandoned it. It also lacked interesting graphics and maps. There is just sense of personality lacking in Freeze, and from my first impression it is also lacking in this game.
I don't really think it looks that much better to be honest. Perhaps even a bit worse at times. Some things look better, some worse. Though I'm sure if Nintendo were to make it for this kind of powerful hardware it would look good. But not by so much that it would get me to not play it on portable mode to be able to spot the difference. I'm perfectly happy with how it looks right now. The biggest improvement would be the constant frame rate.
I think I did this game wrong. I had the most wonderful time for a while, but suddenly I stopped playing. I never saw any more story unfolding since the very start of the game. I did 3 of the main dungeons, and am at the 4th. Is that how its supposed to be? Or am I responsible for triggering cut-scenes myself?
@clvr Thank you. Your kind tone gives me hope for mankind and inspires me to be more careful how I present my own views. You are right that people often have simplistic answers, on all sides.
@clvr Well, the supreme Court has many times ruled that the 1st amendment does apply in private spheres open for the public on several occasions. One example was that a private community was not allowed to throw out people going door to door with religious messages. Regardless of the 1st, the government protections against responsibility for content is also meant to make it possible for private actors to have public spheres without being liable for everything that is said there, but only in so far as they actually are neutral to the content there. This is clearly being exploited, and the only guy who wants to make this actually work as intended is incidentally the president and is being thrown out from a supposedly neutral platform. It's long beyond the time to take away their protections, at the very least, and to start serious discussions if the 1st amendment shouldn't apply also in virtual public spaces, allthough I don't think that last one is actually necessary if just the protections are removed.
@clvr While you say that, tons of businesses are being forced to accept customers they don't like, and forced to enforce all kinds of rules towards their customers. Also, alternative platforms are experiencing being shut out of the internet. Amazon is kicking partners off their platform for no reason. Payment services are refusing to work with people who don't conform. And here is the real systemic problem. It all traces back to the central banking system, which basically makes it impossible to actually maintain a free market as government is maintaining that system. There has not been a functioning free market in a long while. It started dying with the Federal reserve and similar central banks, and was given a lethal injection with Bretton Woods. Huge supernational organisations have their hands in everything today. Also, these corporations like Twitter are protected by government from responsibility, because they are supposedly neutral platforms like the postal service. Guess who was trying to take that protection away from them?
I think Kanye is one of the few celebrities who is relatable. I always though he was a fool, and in a way he is, but he is a real person, open, trustworthy, vulnerable. He seems like a fool, because the world is mad.
@brandonbwii I didn't. Thanks. I just assumed, being called black panther it alluded to that organisation, and being a country by and for people of an ethnicity, that it would remain so, and that saying "wakanda forever", would be a sign of the virtues of such a nation. Haven't seen it actually. So, what happens?
"no game content will be featured", definitely means they'll announce Switch 2, with launch games Planet Pilotwings, Goldeneye 007 remastered, Yoshi's Peninsula, Mario Kart Ultra and Super Mario RPG 2.
I'm pretty sure only a few hipster metropolis dwelling Chinese even react to this, and then only after reading that they are supposed to react to it on Twitter. The only actually racist thing here is thinking all Chinese people are the same and just as snowflakey as people from California.
@DeclanS98 I would agree with that, if it weren't for the fact that these companies evade liability laws by pretending to be an unbiased platform. Make them liable for what is posted, and I would agree that they can kick anyone out for whatever reason. But they enjoy the same protection that postal services and telephone companies have. This leads people to think they can trust them to remain neutral and be a stable platform to launch on, while they are not. It is basically fraud on such a high scale that we are getting used to it. Society is turning to a mental jail for everyone around us because of this.
@Kid_Sickarus No worries. Perhaps I'm wrong, but this is how I see it. Because there are always scalpers, that means the suppliers notice more sales during their limited time windows, in general. Therefore they will in general have more supply. This means there will be more after market objects available for the future. Over time this means a lower price on average.
The upshot is, that scalpers actually do increase demand, and as such over time these limited time offers will actually be available also for people in higher supply years later. Lots of people do not actually buy games during the initial supply, but might want them later. Scalpers (if successful) actually have analysed the market and seen that the item has higher demand than the supplier thought. The price over time will be lower because of (successful) scalpers, but they make the price be more even over time.
It's super cool. I really want to try. But I won't be buying it I think. Can't imagine I would actually enjoy it for anything but the initial awesome gimmick factor. It would probably annoy my wife if I play this for more than 5 minutes a week. And why do I want a car rushing about my living room actually? If there was some sort of other interaction with the environment, like chasing down people and pets, maybe it would work.
I imagine a drone AR game would work better. It would be outdoors, one could make lots of custom games of hide and seek, war, pilotwings, etc.
Legal action against this is the height of being a crybaby. If you don't like it, don't use it. Seriously, I have so much entertainment and useful applications available at my fingertips for almost nothing, it's almost like I want to sue to make it more prohibitively expensive.
If it was a rip off, that would be fine. If you use someone elses logo, characters, etc., in your game, in my mind you are saying that they own it, and your work is theirs.
If I make an electric car, and market it as a Tesla, I think Tesla should rightfully "rip off" any innovations I might have also put in the car (assuming I didn't rip off those as well)
@ivory_soul I've said and done horrible things in every walk of life, through my life. It's not my job nor my place to make judgements about every imperfect human out there. Even in personal relationships that is difficult business, without just making a lot of things worse. What do I know about this situation? Nothing. And in situations where I have infinitely more information, I yet make mistake after mistake, especially when I feel "in the rigth". Life is difficult, and people make mistakes all the time. All personality types have virtues and vices. It is forbearance for imperfection that makes life possible. The opposite of that is that all of the Internet buts in on every single thing, and pick some side and destroy the other.
I can't speak to this case of course, but it seems to me that one can't do anything these days without someone getting angry and taking revenge. No one is perfect, and in a position of trying to do something of importance all your character flaws are likely to be on display. Internet is ruining coping with being human in sane ways.
I'm playing it, and loving it. Mario 64 looks great. But Galaxy is a dream come true. Used to hate the wrist shaking on wii. Never finished the game. It's amazing to finally have it in a non-gimmick version, and it looks great.
I don't get why Mario 64 "obviously" has lower resolution. That could probably run at 4k on the switch, easily (if it could output that).
Also, I think Mario 64 still plays wonderfully. Sure, the camera system is not absolutely perfect, but it's pretty good still. And the game in general is so much fun just to play around in. I think it looks good. It has style. The world feels solid. The newer mario games, though a lot of fun, feel a little "fake" to me, like Mario is running around a movie set where nothing is solid. Most games feel like this tbh.
@Carck No, they are standing on the street corners to be seen as caring. If they cared they wouldn't throw insults, but ask genuine questions as to how it will raise awareness, in stead of being more concerned to paint themselves as being on the right side.
I struggle to understand this story. What were the dislikes for? Why are people angry now? It feels like people just want to be outraged, and will grab onto anything to delve into their own miserable anger. Please stop, not for my sake, but for your own.
Only Billy And the Lord knows the truth about this. Let's get on with life. World records are for fun and wonder. Life is unfair. If some guy gets his 15 minutes of fame for an event where he cheats, let him have it.
I voted maybe. I would maybe hesitantly get it, if that was the only way to play certain games. However, I would for sure pay more for Nintendo Online for Switch if the correct games were on there in stead. If I didn't already have a Switch, I would for sure get one. The current offering on Switch is too little. Give me all the stuff from the Virtual Console, and I'll pay. They should put all retro-resources into making Virtual Console a service that would work on all Nintendo hardware as long as it has the omph to run the emulator in question. Give us Gamecube and Wii games. I never really got to play Mario Galaxy that much, and I really want to. I would like to play Eternal Darkness as well. And F zero GX. And tons more, both that I played and that I didn't. Gamecube should be easy. Wii is perhaps a bit more challenging to make work seamlessly, but at least get us something.
What is the world is wrong with this? Helping those who want a switch to buy one? Of course that increases the price when there are less switches. What are you hoping for here, that no one buys switches any more, they sit on the shelves and prices go to zero? It's a good thing if prices rise in a shortage on stuff people actually want. It gives a signal to any supplier in the chain to prioritise this item.
@Ketsumeishi What does that even mean? How in the world does one not play that "game"? If we even take a screw to fasten the cover of the switch, and try to analyze how it actually came to be, we are instantly overwhelmed by all the details, and Nintendo has absolutely no idea how such screws are made, neither does anyone else actually. Sure, some know it's shape, some know it's chemical properties, some know how to find the components to make the actual screw, etc. It's virtually infinite complexity, and we haven't even begun to analyse the creation of the things we need to be able to produce the screw, and the things needed to produce the things we need to produce the screw, and so on, ad infinitum. No matter how far one takes it, one can never escape the "game", which isn't actually a game, but reality. Sure one can try, and the only thing one does then is limit the process to such low complexity that producing Switches at all would be unthinkable.
I have said much worse things during more inappropriate times. So has most people I know. Thankfully, I have grown up in an environment where such things are not what defines a human, but it is possible to give constructive feedback on it instead. It is horrendously destructive to scream and demand his firing for something so human. It demands coming to his defense, in stead of simply agreeing that yes, this was a bad thing to say, and then moving along.
Just had a bit of sheep sausage for breakfast, and am wearing a wool sweater. But I'll stay away from catching any wooloo. Digital animals are people too!
I absolutely support Nintendos ability to do this. If I see a company's mascot in a commercial setting (or other setting where the mascot is used for associating it's reputation with some other activity, except for the purpose of expression of opinions which takes precedence), I assume the associated activity is endorsed by said company. I believe this kind of identification is pretty foundational to how our society functions.
@ItsOKToBeOK It's the law that doesn't let them get away with it. If the law didn't support the idea of protecting identities through things like trademark, Nintendo couldn't do much (assuming Japan is not openly corrupt and judges can impose random sanctions for random reasons)
You answered you own question. It's the price that some expected customer base must pay in order to justify the resources spent on this in stead of other things. Most people think of prices backwards. The price point is mostly predetermined by demand vs resource usage vs demand for other stuff that could be made with the same resources. The question is to identify the correct price point and then it's mostly about deciding to produce the thing given the price point and the amount of resources you will likely spend. You make it if you will make more money than on other projects you might do, and you don't make it if you won't.

It is horrendously destructive to scream and demand his firing for something so human. It demands coming to his defense, in stead of simply agreeing that yes, this was a bad thing to say, and then moving along.
Re: Random: PETA Makes Woolly Statement About Sheep Pokémon Wooloo, Backlash Ensues
Just had a bit of sheep sausage for breakfast, and am wearing a wool sweater. But I'll stay away from catching any wooloo. Digital animals are people too!
Re: Popular Tourist Go-Kart Company in Tokyo Loses Lawsuit Appeal Against Nintendo
Re: Popular Tourist Go-Kart Company in Tokyo Loses Lawsuit Appeal Against Nintendo
@ItsOKToBeOK It's the law that doesn't let them get away with it. If the law didn't support the idea of protecting identities through things like trademark, Nintendo couldn't do much (assuming Japan is not openly corrupt and judges can impose random sanctions for random reasons)
Re: A 3DS eShop Title Just Launched For An Eye-Watering $100
You answered you own question. It's the price that some expected customer base must pay in order to justify the resources spent on this in stead of other things. Most people think of prices backwards. The price point is mostly predetermined by demand vs resource usage vs demand for other stuff that could be made with the same resources. The question is to identify the correct price point and then it's mostly about deciding to produce the thing given the price point and the amount of resources you will likely spend. You make it if you will make more money than on other projects you might do, and you don't make it if you won't.
