Re: Random: Nintendo's Museum Might Be Emulating SNES Games On Windows PC

Mortenb

People here seem unable to think rationally. Of course Nintendo uses legal means to stop people distributing their stuff without permission. That doesn't have any bearing on them using similar technology for their own legitimate activities.
There is absolutely no reason to call anyone hypocrites over this, at all.
It's just utter idiocy.
It's like me calling you hypocrite for using your own house key to get into your house, when I'm not allowed to.

Re: Random: Nintendo's Museum Might Be Emulating SNES Games On Windows PC

Mortenb

@LuigiBlood I disagree on that. If free emulators exist, Nintendo should take every advantage of them, regardless of their opinion that they ought not exist in the first place. Otherwise they are simply making the problem for themselves with the unfair advantage such things can give competitors, even larger.
As long as that usage doesn't itself directly undermine their own interests, or violate someone else's person.
But, Nintendo is NOT going after emulators for being emulators, and never have been. They know they will loose such a battle. They are going after emulators when they are also doing other illegal stuff, such as including decryption keys, etc. Regardless of this, even an illegal emulator that violates Nintendo's rights, ought to be used to the fullest by Nintendo as long as it's legal for them to do so.
I don't think such things should be illegal, but it is, and Nintendo is fair for doing what they can to protect their business within the law, and at the same time use the stuff that they claim is illegal because it is their stuff. Otherwise, it would become hypocritical for Nintendo to distribute the games they go after others for distributing, it would undermine the whole thing.
They should not be given another disadvantage on top of the problems the emulators already presumably pose for them.

Re: Random: Nintendo's Museum Might Be Emulating SNES Games On Windows PC

Mortenb

Nintendo has been doing emulation for a long, long, long time. It started on the N64 I guess. What's different about this? Are they not supposed to do it on a PC?
They have made lots of emulators. Even if they used an open source emulator, what's the problem? They haven't been targeting emulators of past generations of hardware, except if the emulator aids users in circumventing copy protections.

Re: Nintendo Hits Snooze On Surging Alarmo Sales In Japan

Mortenb

@Ooyah Wait a minute! What a timely comment. Ticks all the boxes. Perhaps a bit tock-sic. But watch ya gonna do? The hour is upon us. Don't sound the alarm yet. Don't clock us for our poorly hand-led puns. Strap in and enjoy hour bad dial-og and tachy humour. We have to watch it, though. Time flies. We've had hour kairos. It's high time to end this anachronistically bad comment.

Re: Nintendo And Pokémon File Lawsuit Against Palworld Developer Pocketpair

Mortenb

@NINTELDRITCH I'm glad they don't sue every single tiny person making a small gimmicky thing, and instead wait to stop the things doing actual damage to their brand, like this.
If this continues, people are likely to associate pokemon characters with this game instead of Nintendo and Pokemon company.
What's weird is if they are trying a patent instead of copyright or even trademark. That part doesn't make much sense.

Re: Palworld Developer Responds To Nintendo Lawsuit

Mortenb

I'm guessing it isn't even a patent infringement claim from Nintendo. The devs are just trying to sow confusion and direct people to defend their gameplay ideas, as opposed to the obvious rip-off regarding character desings.

Re: Nintendo On Inappropriate Use Of Its IP And Games: "Action Must Be Taken"

Mortenb

Inappropriate content should be nuked from orbit. But wholesome fan made mods and ability to emulate old stuff and the like is actually keeping the Nintendo fanboyism alive these day, to a great extent. There is so much cool stuff.
Of course when it starts impinging on sales of newer stuff it needs to go.
And in the end only Nintendo can make that evaluation, and has that right. But if they overdo it, it will mean suicide I'm afraid.

Re: Random: Here's What's Inside A Switch Cart

Mortenb

@DaniPooo It doesn't matter how many excellent arguments you make. I still miss the Game Boy cartridges. They were just cooler. Better to hold, look at, and stash random places. I could actually read which game was which, even. It's impossible for me to read or remember which game is BOTW and which is TOTK.
I'd rather throw them in my bag or pocket most of the time. But it's actually difficult to find even in my pocket. They could have at least been the size of a Compact Flash cart.
These are just my preferences, and are not intended to reflect badly on anyone with different preferences.

Re: Random: Here's What's Inside A Switch Cart

Mortenb

@DaniPooo Yeah, I know
All Nintendo decisions are always perfect, and every human being who do not completely and utterly enjoy every single aspect of their every console and game, are problem humans.
I just can't help it, I have these preferences sometimes that do not align. Do you have tips for my redemption and rejoining the ranks of worthy Nintendo fans.

Re: Mailbox: A More Powerful, Digital-Only 'Switch 2' And "Obscurer" Treasures - Nintendo Life Letters

Mortenb

Not only would I not buy the digital. I would be so disappointed I would probably hold off in buying all together.
There would be two possible outcomes I think. Either most games would be adapted to run well on the less powerful hardware anyway. Or it would not, and everyone would be angry. Also, the decision to make a game for the system would still have to consider the less powerful hardware, or people would be even more angry. I think it's a loose/loose situation.

Re: Poll: So, Do You Prefer Zelda: Breath Of The Wild Or Tears Of The Kingdom?

Mortenb

Haven't played enough. But to me it feels TOTK is better story wise, and has developments pretty regularly that drive it forward. Whereas in BOTW I felt I was just running about for ages with nothing happening story wise, just beating enemies here and there.
But it could be just arbitrary that I was lucky in TOTK so far bumping into the good bits.
But over all they are pretty similar.
The underground and sky are awesome though. I like the mysterious feel to the exploration in TOTK. Luckily I have gotten the fast build ability, which makes it less of a chore to build the same thing over and over. I can imagine someone playing for a long time without that, and becoming bored of building stuff.

Re: Oh No, GameStop Is Closing Its NFT Marketplace

Mortenb

This is sort of like some guy invented the padlock, then everyone starts selling notes which say you own some crap in a box locked with the padlock.
Then when everyone realises what they did, they start blaming padlocks. Padlocks, we don't need ya, you're dumb, etc.
Meanwhile, it still has it's uses, it just won't turn crap into gold.

Re: 3DS Emulator Citra Is Coming To Meta Quest Next Week

Mortenb

@SillyPlanet92 "It's because of capitalism" ? What the heck is that supposed to mean? No it's because people want to be able to come together against the rest of the world and make something great and live off it, or enjoy what such people make. That's it. That's why they make such laws. What do you even mean by something being moral?
When ever people talk of capitalism, they are simply talking about what ever people do, which they are angry at, and if they were dictator it would be different. It's a meaningless term.

Re: 3DS Emulator Citra Is Coming To Meta Quest Next Week

Mortenb

@jco83 It is impossible to enjoy any media without its contents being copied somewhere.
In general copyright laws restrict the making available copies, not the copying.
You can copy for yourself as much as you want, as long as it doesn't make it available to more people than would otherwise have access.

Re: Zelda Producer Responds To Fans Who Want A More "Traditional Linear" Adventure

Mortenb

While I enjoy the new Zelda', I find this response to be like asking "why would anyone prefer a carefully crafter classical musical piece, over their own unrestricted clunking at the piano at home?"
For sure, both are enjoyable, but it's not simply nostalgia which makes one want the carefully crafted piece. There is also a special quality to it, to what you get out of certain limitations.
Free play is cool, but also reading a book is cool.

Re: Sega's Executive Director Wants Sonic Games And Movies To "Surpass Mario"

Mortenb

Everybody wanted to beat Mario. Sonic just happened to be assigned a team that came the closest. Probably because they had other goals than "beating Mario", like "having fun", "be inspired", "build a world", regardless of what the leaderships goals were.
But leadership is probably too involved in picking the personality of the team this time around, making sure they are all "right for the job", so other goals are weeded out, and all that remains are people who agree that "beating Mario" is the goal.
