The difference is that the Switch 2 (and OG Switch) are not dedicated handhelds.

They are primarily a home console that has the option of being used as a handheld, should you choose to do so.

That's how I've always viewed mine anyway. Home console first, handheld second.

I've had my Switch since day 1 and id say it's spent 95% of it's playing time sat in it's dock hooked up to the TV.

Those percentages aren't likely to change when I get a Switch 2

A friend of mine has the Samsung flip Mobile phone, the screen is constantly lifting in the middle where it folds over.

He's on his 3rd replacement for the same issue

Im hoping it will be twice as powerful as the PS5, also hoping the battery can last for at least a week without being charged. That's obviously with the screen set to max brightness and the speakers on full volume.

Also it needs to cost no more than £199 otherwise I won't be buying one

Oh yeah.... and if it also doubles up as a toasted cheese sandwich maker that would be perfect

To be fair I was just joking around.

Whilst I can highly recommend them, I do also appreciate that if you've never played the originals you obviously won't have the same nostalgic ties to the games that I have

I'll put my Switch 2 in my gaming room (glorified box bedroom) hooked up to my gaming Monitor alongside my PS5.

The Switch 1 can stay set up downstairs on the big TV, if nothing else just for the occasional game of Nintendo Switch Sports

If I was a betting person that's roughly the price I would guess at...

It's clearly going to be slightly more the the Switch 1 and as it likely won't complete with the PS5 on a graphical basis it makes sense to be slightly cheaper

It would be nice to have both options available. NSO and Virtual console.

I think PlayStation have got the balance right, I subscribe to PS Plus Premium so obviously have access to a selection of classic PS1 games.

The selection of games could be better but that's a different discussion....... where they have got it right though is that those games can be purchased on an individual basis for anyone that wants them

I believe I've played most of, if not all of the Sonic Racing games, whilst all being decent games in their own right they just always felt like something was missing in my opinion.

A bit like when the wife makes my favourite Spaghetti Bolognese and doesn't put enough Chilli and garlic in it, still a nice enjoyable meal but something just not quite right.

I guess what I'm saying is that I'll always prefer Mario Kart for my Kart Racing

No I know what you mean, even though you might have something really interesting to say or have a really strong opinion on something, if you don't get in there fairly quickly at the top of the board the comment can effectively just get lost and go unnoticed.

A bit like this comment of mine and the one you've just tagged me in..... because this article is now a few days old and we're 65 comments deep, it's quite likely that you and I are the only people that will ever read them lol (saying that I doubt this conversation will be of any interest to anyone other than the 2 of us 🤣)

As I said I was only joking, the strange thing is when someone just comments "First" without actually adding anything meaningful with it..... not suggesting you did or have done that but it does happen (if not on here, then on other message boards)

It's not something I would personally use. I buy my consoles to play video games.

I've no issue as such if they (Nintendo) wanted to put a similar system in place, just as long as it's use is fully optional and doesn't impact the way we play our games

I'm fine with them continuing to support the Switch for the foreseeable future as long as we still get exclusive games for the Switch 2 .

As a day one PS5 adopter it used to really drive me crazy seeing most games released on PS5 and then also PS4.

I paid all that money so I could have the privilege of playing the latest games on my shiney new console, what exactly was the point if the games are also released on the old system?

It is starting to get better now but PS5 will be 5 years old later this year and it's quite frankly a joke that it's taken this long.

Anyway..... long story short is that I won't be happy if Nintendo do the same thing with the new Switch.

Yeah £279 seems perfectly reasonable now but at the time it definitely seemed alot

I remember when the Switch 1 price was announced at £279

Confidence was fairly low after the disaster of the Wii U and I tried to convince myself that it was too much to pay and that I wasn't getting one (not straight away at least)

Predictably though I ended up pre ordering one and was balls deep on day one 🤣🤣

Maybe not but they can at least try to limit how many people can buy

The only way to truly stop them is it to manufacture more than it's possible to sell (sell straight away at least) and make sure everyone who wants one can just walk into a store and buy one.

Easier said than done if course but nothing would give me greater pleasure than seeing a scalper stuck with a house full that they can't sell because Nintendo has already made enough for everyone

I'm more than happy with it...

It works perfectly for PlayStation, when the next number comes out there can be no confusion over whether it's a new product or not, rather than just potentially being an add on for the existing product

(I'm looking at you.... Wii U)

They (I say they because I don't know if male or female) conveniently deleted their comments because they were getting too much heat.

It was something along the lines of Nintendo being completely out of touch with what games people want (apparently)

I was planning to get this on PS5 but if this turned out to be a Switch 2 launch title that may well change things.

I believe the PS5 version isn't due out till Spring so hopefully we may know more by then.

I fully understand why they do it, some of those games were absolute masterpieces so it would be almost silly not to find a way to introduce them to a new audience whilst also making a load more cash at the same time.

Again though, I was simply making light of the situation that they managed to get me to buy the same games again 😂

Let's be honest, if it wasn't backwards compatible they would have had an absolute riot on their hands.

It's the bare minimum that people expect from a new console these days.

They got away with it when the OG Switch launched because the Wii U had discs and the Switch had cartridges (also hardly any one owned a Wii U) but with the Switch 2 it would have been inexcusable if it wasn't.

It was disappointing but I can't see why it would stop someone who wants one from buying it

That said it all depends on the launch games, if it launches with a new 3D Mario game and or Mario kart 9 then I'm 100% on board.

If not I'll probably wait.

I did manage to get a day 1 Switch but as I'm not a Zelda fan I didn't really have much to play on it, once the Novelty of being able to "Switch" wore off so it felt a little bit of a waste to begin with

I'm pretty much a 98% docked kinda guy so as long as I can find a suitable place for it near my TV I don't really care if it's too big to fit in my pocket

I do love a good golf game but this looks too much of a gimmick for my liking.

I do wish EA sports would give us another golf game with motion controls.... I loved them on the Wii

Although I've said many times myself that I just want a more powerful Switch and that they don't need to reinvent the wheel, I can't help but feel slightly underwhelmed by these supposed leaks.

I guess it all comes down to what's under the hood and how powerful the thing is.

In other words how much prettier will my games look & run.

Easy to say with hindsight but in the dark days of the Wii U I doubt even Nintendos most die hard fans would have expected the Switch to be quiet as successful as it has been.

I'm not a doubter by the way, just trying to offer a bit of sensible logic

This game is so much better than Mario Kart 64 (and I love MK64 by the way)

MK is probably better as a multiplayer game but from a single player perspective Diddy Kong Racing will never be beaten in my opinion.

For me the best selling point of the Switch is simply that it can be whatever you want it to be.

I predominantly use mine as a home console but the fact it can be either a home console or a handheld is probably why it's done so well.

Obviously I can only speak for myself but if the Switch was a handheld only device I probably wouldn't have bought one

Obviously nobody knew how it would pan out at the time but it's fascinating to think how different the gaming landscape could have looked had Nintendo not pulled out at the last minute.

Would Sega still be around???

Would Xbox even be a thing???

How random, I've never seen it before but I'll definitely try it next time I have a play through.

Although I did own a copy on the Wii, for whatever strange reason I never really played it properly at the time... I think it was just at a time in my life when I was more interested in going out socialising with friends / girls than playing video games.

So it will almost feel like a brand new game when I do pick it up.

I'm a big fan of both Nintendo and Sony so have no particular bias one way or the other, but this does seem a rather odd and convenient time to suddenly shift the goal posts lol

I think for me it's had to be New Super Mario Bros

Hard to imagine it now because we've had so many of the "New" series of games but back then it was a massive release

It'd been a good 15 years or so since we'd had a 2D side scrolling Mario game so it really was a blast to play it

It's not necessarily the best DS game I played but it's probably the one that brought me the most Nostalgic enjoyment

I wouldn't see it as a deal breaker myself, backwards compatible or not I'd still be buying one.

It is however as others have already mentioned a handy little feature that allows you to do everything with one system instead of having having to have multiple consoles set up.

I'll probably have my Switch 2 upstairs in my games room alongside my PS5 on the gaming Monitor and will leave my Switch 1 set up downstairs for the occasional game of Nintendo Switch Sports as there's much more space

My preference would obviously be for them to just put it on NSO.

The fact I jokingly said I'd buy an Xbox just to play it just shows how much I really want it.

The DS remake wasn't great so unless you have an old N64 knocking about there's no other legal way to play it

If you're listening Rare / Microsoft / Nintendo

please get your heads together and do something with Diddy Kong Racing.

Either make a sequel, remaster the original or just re release the dam thing on Game pass and NSO.

I don't own an Xbox anymore but honestly I'd buy one and subscribe to game pass just for that game
