Mind blowing, especially when you consider that Super Mario World on the SNES only sold 20.6 million copies world wide. Also alot of the Mario world games would have actually been packed in with the SNES.
Admittedly alot more people are into video games in 2024 compared to the mid 90's but still, impressive none the less
Yeah I'm sure it will be, it'll just be nice to get official specs and details from Nintendo so that we can make an informed decision.
That said, I'm in no rush, good things come to those who wait an all that.
There is something magical about getting a new console though, just the idea of it is giving me flashbacks of Christmas day 1997 unboxing my N64 with Mario 64 😁
I always assumed it was going to be available around March / April of 2025
My 2 all important questions to help me decide whether I'm in the queue day one are....
1. Just how much of a step up is it from the OG Switch
2. Will it launch either with a New 3D Mario game or maybe Mario kart 9
If the answer to question number 2 is a no, I'll probably wait till it does have one of, or both of those games available
I had a Switch day one but for the first month or so I barely had anything to play on it, so once I got past the novelty of actually having one it felt like a bit of a waste.
(oh, I feel I should add that I hate Zelda games which is why I had nothing to play)
I don't see him that much any more but in terms of games consoles not much has changed, he's very much an Xbox die hard whereas I'm very much into my PS5 & Switch
Not technically true, they along with Sega were the OG and started the console wars.
The good old days before the internet when you basically got whatever console your parents decided to buy you.
I had a SNES and my best friend had a Mega Drive (sorry I simply refuse to call it a Genesis) and we were always round at each others houses so felt like we had the best of both worlds
I've owned every Playstation and Nintendo console but if the PS6 launches at £700 or more then I'm afraid that's where my love affair with Sony will end.
Spot on mate, can't really disagree with any of that.
As much as the sales record would be nice, the last thing we all want is another Wii U so yes, I'd much rather they focus on making the next console a success
It's my one wish every time we get a Nintendo Direct... Ideally a full remake that basically makes it look and feel like MK8 does or if I'm honest I'd be more than happy if we just got the original N64 version added to NSO
In fairness I hadn't played on it for a while, I tend to go though phases and I've been on a PS5 phase for quite some time.
However recently I picked up Sociable Soccer 24 (as it's a timed Switch exclusive) and I've really enjoyed it.
Playing that inspired me to start afresh with Super Mario Odyssey.
All's I can say is Wow, I'd forgotten just how good it was, it's an absolute ***** masterpiece of a game.
Sorry for the long winded post but if it means getting a new 3D Mario game on Switch 2 in the not too distant future then sign me up and take my deposit right now
I picked this up last Friday when it first launched for the Switch.
I'll be honest at first I didn't really like it but I persivered with it.
It took me approximately 8-10 games to get the hang of it (losing every one of them and ending each match with at least a couple of players red carded).
But then something just clicked and I'm now absolutely loving it, just can't put it down.
The games are really short so it's so much fun to just pick up and play
I think it could be decided on a case by case basis.
Many of Nintendos older games are pretty much perfect as they are so a "fresh coat of paint" so to speak is sometimes all they need.
Take Mario 64, the DS version for example, they added in some extra stuff / levels but for me alot if it felt forced and didn't need to be there. (just my 2 cents worth).
Give me a choice between playing the N64 version or the DS and it's the original every time
Nintendo themselves are historically good at compressing their games to small file sizes but with the sizes of some 3rd party games these days I'd say 1TB is the bare minimum

Re: Universal Orlando's Super Nintendo World Opens Its Doors May 2025
We've not long come back from Florida and so disappointed it wasn't open in time for our trip
Being from the UK it's not somewhere we can afford to go every year unfortunately.
Already started saving for a 2026 trip though

Re: Poll: So, Will You Be Getting Super Mario Party Jamboree?
Probably not to be fair, I always think they look better and more interesting than they actually are in reality.
Re: Switch Online's Expansion Pack Promises "Excitement" In 2025
I'll say the same thing I always say when this subject comes up.
Diddy..........Kong......... Racing........ Please!!!!!
Re: Rumour: Nintendo Might Be Gearing Up For A GameCube Controller Comeback
I'm calling it now, Nintendo's next console won't be a Switch 2.
It'll be called GameCube 2
Re: Round Up: The First Impressions Of The Nintendo Sound Clock 'Alarmo' Are In
Perfectly happy with the alarm on my mobile phone thanks
Re: Nintendo Switch System Update 19.0.0 Is Now Live, Here Are The Full Patch Notes
Some times I'm half tempted so reset my 2017 OG switch back it it's factory settings and see what happens
I bet the poor thing will be so week it'll barely be able to stand up
Re: Upcoming Nintendo Switch Games And Accessories For October And November 2024
Nothing that particularly jumps out at me.
My next Switch purchase will probably be Donkey Kong Country Returns
Re: UK Charts: Zelda: Echoes Of Wisdom Can't Quite Beat The Might Of EA Sports FC 25
I actually picked up Astro Bot yesterday.
It's unreal, I genuinely don't have the words to explain how much I'm loving it
Re: Rumour: 'Switch 2' Will Launch Early Next Year, Claims Accessory Company
@DwaynesGames
It happens when it happens, as I said in a previous post, I'm in no rush

Re: Forget The Console Wars, Miyamoto Says Nintendo Has Always Followed Its Own Path
@James021
Lol i guess it's whatever you grew up knowing it as.
I've always found calling it a Genesis to be really strange.
To me Genesis is a Rock band with Phil Collins not a games console 🤣
Re: Forget The Console Wars, Miyamoto Says Nintendo Has Always Followed Its Own Path

Great childhood memories.

Re: Video: "It's Got Big Nintendo Vibes" - We Dive Into Astro Bot With Our Friends At Push Square
@johnedwin
It was top of the UK charts on Monday for game sales so can't have done that badly.
Admittedly I've yet to pick it up but I fully intend to this weekend
Re: Soapbox: Sony's Insane PS5 Pro Price Highlights The Delicate Balance Nintendo Must Strike With 'Switch 2'
I've owned every Playstation and Nintendo console but if the PS6 launches at £700 or more then I'm afraid that's where my love affair with Sony will end.
Could I afford to buy one? Yes of course
But I just can't justify that kind of outlay
Re: Rumour: Switch "Successor" Will Be Backwards Compatible, It's Claimed
It wouldn't bother me if it wasn't as ill still have my Switch to play on no matter what happens.
Having said that, I'll be absolutely amazed if it wasn't backwards compatible

Re: Here Are The Top Ten Best-Selling Nintendo Switch Games As Of June 2024
@larryisaman
Very true, we have 2 x Switches in our house
My OG day one Switch and my daughter's Switch light.
We only own 1 copy of Mario Kart
Re: Here Are The Top Ten Best-Selling Nintendo Switch Games As Of June 2024
Not this quarter in particular but I do own 5 of the top 10
Re: Nintendo Switch Sales Hit 143 Million As Hardware And Software Figures Decline
@Scoopz
Yeah it's all about striking that right balance.
I guess it all depends on how much they want that all time sales record.
Personally I think they'd be daft not to try after getting so close
Re: Nintendo Reconfirms Release Windows For Major Upcoming Switch Games
Pretty strong list in fairness although the only ones I'll actually buy are Donkey Kong and possibly Mario Party.
The rest (whilst admittedly are solid games) just aren't my thing
Re: Nintendo Switch Sales Hit 143 Million As Hardware And Software Figures Decline
If Nintendo really want that record I think they could do it with a massive price drop in the run up to Christmas, prior to the Launch of the Switch U

Re: Super Mario World Lego Set Revealed, Here's A First Look
Looks amazing and I'd love one for my games room but that's rediculusly expensive (as I know most Lego sets are)

Re: UK Charts: Switch Games Take Up Eight Of The Top Ten
@BookhouseBoy
Good to know, thanks for getting back to me.
I think I'll take a chance on it
Re: UK Charts: Switch Games Take Up Eight Of The Top Ten
@BookhouseBoy
I've been tempted to pick it up as I've never played the 3DS version.
My only reservation is that I was worried it might feel like a step backwards from Luigi's Mansion 3
Frustrating ghost cat levels aside, I really loved number 3
Re: Nintendo Expands Switch Online's NES Library With Seven More Games
More games getting added is always a good thing...... but yeah I'm probably never going to touch any of them
Re: Review: Luigi's Mansion 2 HD (Switch) - The Best Version, But Lacks Extras To Make It Essential
Having never played the 3DS version I'm very interested in this.
I loved Luigi's Mansion 3, it was one of the first games in a long time that I actually saw through to the end and completed.
Although those frustrating ghost cat levels did push me to the edge of quitting from time to time
Re: Nintendo Direct June 2024: Time, Where To Watch, What To Expect
Not expecting any major new game releases with Switch 2 being on the horizon.
I've mentioned it before but if I could come out of this Direct with just one wish fulfilled it would be to have Diddy Kong Racing released on NSO
Better still a full blown remaster but I'll take the N64 version on NSO
Re: Review: Sociable Soccer 24 (Switch) - A Sensible Option For Old-School Footy Fans
I picked this up last Friday when it first launched for the Switch.
I'll be honest at first I didn't really like it but I persivered with it.

Re: Anniversary: Mario Golf On N64 Is Now 25 Years Old
Thank you for reminding me that I'm officially old 😞
Re: Talking Point: What We Expect From The Upcoming June Nintendo Direct
What id like to see and what I end up seeing usually turn out to be two very different things so I'm trying to keep my expectations fairly low.
That way I won't end up too disappointed, then if by chance there is some stuff I "wanted" to see it's a nice bonus
If there's one thing I'd really really like to see though it's Diddy Kong Racing released for NSO
Re: EA Sports FC 24 Is Getting A Free 'UEFA Euro 2024' Update On Switch
@Olliemar28
Do you know if yourself or any of the others are doing a review of the new Sociable Soccer 24 that's out tomorrow?
Still on the fence over buying it so could do with a trusted review 😂
Re: Retailer 'GAME' Is Ending Its Reward Programme And Elite Membership
I enjoy going in for a browse but honestly I can't remember the last time I actually bought something from them.
Smyth's tends to be at least £5 cheaper on all new games so they're pricing themselves out of sales
Re: Poll: Is $60 Too Much For Nintendo's Switch Re-Releases?
Seeing as Nintendo Life is a UK based website shouldn't these prices be in Pound Sterling??
Or at the very least give both £ and $
Re: Sociable Soccer 24 Finally Kicks Off On Switch In June
@Ooyah
Looking at the video plus others on YouTube it would appear that you can opt for the vertical/ top down view
Re: Nintendo Expands Switch Online's Game Boy Library With Three More Classics
@ikki5
and Diddy Kong Racing
Re: Soapbox: Are We Ready For A 3D Super Mario Maker?
As much as I love Mario games and in particular the 3D Variety, I don't think this would be such a good idea.
If Mario maker taught me anything, it was that the vast majority of us (myself included) are absolutely terrible at creating Mario levels.
I say leave it to the professionals
Re: Get A Closer Look At Universal Orlando's Super Nintendo World, Opening 2025
I'm gutted about this.... Going to Florida in August this year so will miss out unfortunately
Re: Review: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Arcade: Wrath Of The Mutants (Switch) - Coin-Op Co-Op Cowabummer
I think I'll stick with Shredders revenge for the time being.
I'll probably play it one day when it's given away for free on PS Plus no doubt
Re: Random: 19 Years On, Mario Kart DS Speedrunners Are Still Finding New Shortcuts
19 years???
Wow thank you for making me feel Old
Re: Talking Point: Should We Be Expecting More From Remakes And Remasters?

Re: Another Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Beat 'Em Up Is Coming To Switch This April
I played this a couple of weeks ago at Arcains in Liverpool.
Good game, I'd probably wait for a sale rather than paying full price for it but still .... an enjoyable game
Re: New And Improved Nitro Deck+ Announced For Switch, Pre-Orders Live
To be fair I'd never even heard of the first version till just now.
Re: Poll: So, Will You Be Getting Mario vs. Donkey Kong For Switch?
Having never played the original I was on the fence but I tried the demo last night and it seems really fun.
£34.99 in Smyth's or £31.99 in Argos seems very reasonable to me so I'll be picking it up at some point today
Re: Talking Point: Switch Is Nintendo's "Main Business" Right Now, But All Eyes Are On The Horizon
I grew up on Nintendo and they will always be my first love but I'm definitely spending most of my time on my PS5 these days.
New Nintendo hardware and hopefully a new 3D Mario game as a launch title would certainly tip those scales back in Nintendo's favour though
Re: Poll: How Much Internal Storage Would Be Reasonable For 'Switch 2'?
Nintendo themselves are historically good at compressing their games to small file sizes but with the sizes of some 3rd party games these days I'd say 1TB is the bare minimum
