Humph.

A vote was recently held in Japan to decide which Pokémon is the most popular right now, and you might be shocked (no pun intended) to learn that series mascot Pikachu wasn't even in the top three.

The aim of the vote was to pick a 'mon to be distributed as a free download to Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire players who attend this year's new Pokémon movie. That could potentially have skewed the voting process a little, but still.

562,386 people took part, with Greninja getting 36,235 votes. Arceus was second and Mew third. Pikachu could only manage fourth place, while Sylveon rounded off the top five.

Here are the 12 most popular Pocket Monsters, according to the vote:

Who came in last? Simisear - officially the most unpopular Pokémon as far as Japanese players are concerned.
