Nintendo Switch Sports is a bit of a bare bones experience, to say the least. We said just as much in our review, and our lovely video team previously discussed the reasoning behind our 6/10 score in more detail. To clarify, it's not a "bad" game by any means, but the lack of scope with the sports on offer is glaring, and it's clear Nintendo is aiming to expand the experience gradually over the long-run.
Why wait for Nintendo though, right? Alex, Zion, and Felix are back once again to show just how easy it is to make Nintendo Switch Sports a better, deeper experience. Utilising an idea devised by Alex, they've focused on Bowling for this particular video, but we reckon the approach can be applied to all sports within the game, to an extent.
We'll let you watch the video to find out exactly what they've done, but needless to say, it's a pretty straightforward idea, and you're welcome to nick it for your own multiplayer sessions!
Do you have any ideas on how to make Nintendo Switch Sports a better experience? Let us know in the comments!

Yeah I also made Switch Sports better, it's called booting up Wii Sports Resort.
People ***** hate this game, don't they? Jeez Louise....
Wow People really don’t like this game, sheesh.
Did you eject the game card or close the app……..
Once Nintendo decides to turn this phone app, into an actual game, I’m sure I’ll have very little to complain about. Right now, there’s been a whole lot of bowling, a smattering of Badminton and tiny bit of Tennis… all of which have been accompanied by an entire mountain of wailing, regarding the dearth of features this app provides.
I love this game.
Sorry - but the online is fantastic! We've been playing the heck out of it - online.
I don't understand the hate - at all.
My guess is that people just don't like this type of game?
Not sure.
I'm a huge fan of the Wii Sports series, and honestly, I think the motion controls are better in the previous Wii games than Switch Sports (with the exception of the WiiU version as outside of Baseball and Bowling that game was a step backwards and online was a mess).
But - worse controls notwithstanding - this game recaptures the magic of the series - but specifically only in the online. The online is fantastic fun - and every time I find someone doesn't like the game it has been b/c they are playing it wrong.
MOST ALL, like 90%+, of the game structure is online. If you're playing offline you're simply missing almost everything that is great about the game.
The game's great, I don't understand why so much hate against it? It's a party game to play with friends, not a genre known for having deep mechanics and tons of personalization, it's easy to pick up and play. As someone who always wanted a Wii just to play Wii sports it's like a dream come true
@cyrus_zuo Yeah, I also like the game for what it is. Plus the online performance may actually be Nintendo's best efforts so far. I had a few issues of "could not connect to other consoles" so far but other than that the online is flawless even when playing football with 7 other players. Kinda puts titles like Smash Bros Ultimate to shame when it comes to online performance.
i like this game and all the sports are a solid fun time, but its a hard sell if you still got sports resort. i say dont buy this game unless you're already sure you love wii sports and just want more of it, but online
the unlock system for items is still dumb lol, i fear how slow the roll out will be for items, and how long it'll take to get back the ones you miss. so many players look the same cause we all unlock the same items at the same time. terrible free-to-play system
I love this game. 8/10 for me
Here we go again, the third article explaining/justifying the games low score, that's a poorly disguised soapbox of why the game is no good etc etc..... and this of course will get the comments and clicks as each side state their case.
Still enjoying the game no matter what it's detractors say, as they try to convince me and other people enjoying the game, that they have no right too.
@cyrus_zuo For a lot of people, the joy of this game comes from the offline department where you play locally with your friends and/or family. And the game also lacks a lot in the variety department. Two factors that Wii Sports was a good bit better at.
So yeah I can definitely see why people don't like this game all that much. I'm sure it can be fun if you go online, but even online I hear there's a lack in variety, such as only having a knockout mode available in bowling and being unable to play a full game if you get knocked out early.
Really, if you still have any of the Wii Sports games and don't care that much about the online (I'm not sure how many people still play Wii Sports Club online)... you have little to no reason to dip into this one. I'm personally not gonna bother with it 'til I can find it really really cheap.
@AndyC_MK111 That´s because Splatoon 3 needs to have battle against BOTS (all game modes).
@johnvboy Here we go again, every time someone finds valid faults with something you enjoy you overreact and defend your undying love for Nintendo despite their occasional shortcomings. I don't see anyone demanding you to not enjoy yourself, I only see people asking Nintendo to try harder. Either Nintendo doesn't listen and you still luckily get to enjoy yourself, or they do listen and everyone benefits, including YOU, so yet again I don't understand your defensive stance.
I dare say majority of people hating on the game likely haven't played the game.
@AndyC_MK111 Bowling is too easy - and then you go online. Online you play tournament style where from the 16 players, half are knocked out every 3 frames. It's maybe the most fun online thing I've ever played in a Nintendo made game.
Bowling, imo, is a perfect example of why Switch sports is a tremendous online game.
No lag, lots of games, seriously challenging competition, tons of unlocks (none of which give you an advantage).
Online is truly a lot of fun.
I get that Wii Sports was a great party game with fun single-player modes (we had over 120 hours in the game on my Wii).
I think that putting that out again is what I expected here, and I'm glad that instead Switch sports is probably Nintendo's best online effort ever.
Again - mileage may vary, but when you see all the things that Nintendo put into online, then you see people reviewing the game based on offline - and totally missing MOST of the game, it's a weird disconnect. It's at best an incomplete view/review of the game, but mostly I just think people are crazy missing out on how good the game really is.
Just gonna say here what I've said before:
This is wii sports on a Nintendo switch
Did anyone say it would be better than the original games? No
Is it? No.
But is it a worthy game? Yes.
If you don't have access to a wii, this is absolutely worth your cash. If you do, it's worth considering. Someone please give me a reason why this game deserves so much hate, and I won't take "not as much content as wii sports resort" for an answer.

@SpaceboyScreams,
Not being defensive, just stating what the site is doing with this and the other articles, they love to stir up outrage, and all this rubbish about this making Nintendo try harder etc etc.... just an excuse for people who do not like this and other games, to justify that their position is somehow more valid than others.
And once again people suggesting things are objectively bad, when all any of this good or bad is at best subjective. And I do see faults with this and many other Nintendo games, I just tend to focus on what a game offers, rather than what's missing, and based on that choose to buy or not, I would have loved to have Golf from the very beginning, and could understand people holding off, but personally have no issue with the current offering, and don't mind it coming later.
I like it, doesn't matter what Billy from down the street says. It's actually gotten me to play online to get the rewards. I can also play with friends/family online, which seems important these days with a pandemic and all.
I thought Wii Sports Resort just needed online capabilities. Nintendo Switch Sports brought that and I couldn't be any happier. Could it have more than the bare minimum without having to grind for it? Sure, but obviously that's not the state of play we live in these days. I'm happy that they aren't charging us for extra stuff (at least not yet).
I would have liked up to 8 in an online private, but it's fine for me. It's very "Nintendo" with how they go about doing things, like I still can't figure out how to add secondary player without them being a "Guest" account (I keep getting an error). Outside of that, it's more of what I played on Wii. Personally, that's what I asked for, Wii Bowling + online parties.
After playing this game online and with my friends + family, It’s a blast. For some reason my favorite is the volleyball. I kept losing. I played volleyball in junior high and in college. So I’m acting like a volleyball nerd and moving around. I think I’m going to break some thing. It is Barebone. It does need more. It’s still 6/10.
@iLikeUrAttitude was going to post this.
Some people are so overboard with their hatred about this game, its like Switch Sports came to their house and shot their dog.
Did anyone even watch this video before devolving into the same complaints from a week ago? Its a really funny video.
Q : Do you have any ideas on how to make Nintendo Switch Sports a better experience?
Me : Just add BOXING and other sports to make it at least 20 different sports and all the sports should be available from beginning. Some underrated sports like Hang Gliding, Snowboard, Jet Ski, Bicycling, Ice Skating, Swimming, etc should be included too.
I don't like with this Nintendo's attempt by releasing half baked games.
Also, give all Options to be played both Docked mode and Handheld mode.
@AndyC_MK111 i guess i was vague with "more", i just meant if you want to buy more of wii sports cause you already like the series. for me switch sports is a good game thats not complete, it definitely needs more sports to be a worthy successor
I enjoy playing it with my Missus.
She was playing the Chambara wrong and getting mad at me because I kept hitting her off the podium into the water lol.
I showed her that she needs to not keep holding block as she’s swinging.
From that moment onwards I regret to say that she started kicking my ass.
I actually find it fun to play with people.
It puts a smile on my face and others and I think that’s all that matters.
My favourite is the volleyball, Chambara and the Special Bowling.
I liked that they did different games too because if they just did the same games as before it would get a little stale especially after playing the hell out of wii sports in the past.
I own a copy. I've enjoyed it so far casually by myself unlocking items. But the main point is the party aspect of it, great to play with friends locally or online together; lots of laughs.
I hope more modes come out for existing games. I would love to see the 100pin mode come back in bowling for example.
I believe the Online mode is for people that can't find other people to play with immediately. Can't play with friends at the moment? Go-eth online! Seek! Those that grumble are humbugs.
@AndyC_MK111 Are you complaining about having to play other people? You may as well play against the bots if that's where your level of skill is.
@AndyC_MK111 Well then, that is your opinion on things, and not factual as you tried to pass it off as. Your experience is not as universal as you make it out to be. For example, all the Leader-boards that there ever was in arcade cabinets. There are casual local games, and then there's people whom actually feel the need to play against others that aren't their family.
That being said, I do understand the entertainment value of games like Overcooked and co-op play amongst family.
Mario party Superstars is a culmination of all the multiple previous entries.
How many entries of games in the Wii sports era can be ported to Switch? Wii will find out what they(Nintendo) have in plan for Switch sports in future installments, as they have already placed in bowling from the wii era.
@AndyC_MK111 Doubling down on saying something as if it is fact isn't helping your argument that many people are actually enjoying the online portion of switch sports.
At this point, being a negative nancy is giving Ninty the green light, as it is leading people to the very thing the people are loudly braying against. Loud negative people are the ones that are basically causing Ninty to go down the road of minimal effort as people will buy stuff out of spite, and you aren't helping.
