Pokémon Sun and Moon is getting closer, while we'll all have a chance to play a special demo very soon. The Pokémon Company isn't letting up on reveals, either.
As always, if you don't want to know about these surprises, don't look any further...
The new video unveils new Pokémon, evolutions and even a couple of Trainers that you'll encounter in the games. Some of these are localised details from what we've seen in CoroCoro magazine, while some of the information is all-new. There are interesting ideas, including examples of 'mon that can change Type and moves.
As a little bonus, below is the Japanese video:
What do you think of these reveals? Let us know in the comments.

I'm enjoying the acid effect on Muk.
Muk looks like a blob of rainbow ice cream.
That Dragon/Fighting Pokemon is totally the pseudo legendary of this generation.
You guys should really find a new picture for these articles.
Bootleg Arceus confirmed!
i will definitely be getting Muk. he actually looks better as a Alola variant. Definitely will be catching Bounsweet and Cutiefly now. A little over a month away now. I can't wait to play these games. I think they might end up being my game of the year.
It's no Great Mighty Poo, like I predicted, but Alolan Muk is still pretty terrifying!
Wonder what Shiny Muk will be?
@allav866 All hail the Great Mighty Paint Spill
Somebody should count all the news articles we've had since after E3 ended for Pokémon S&M and Zelda BotW and see what the difference is. Zelda is their flagship title for not 1 but 2 consoles and I don't think they've shown it off at all in 4 months. Way to build excitement.
It's incredible that Pokémon has anything to do with Nintendo at all.
Ow, a Mangosteen Pokemon... :3
Looks cute and yummy to eat...
Oops...sorry XD
I think Jangmo-o's evolutions are the first design I dislike
Don't get me wrong, I don't hate em, but idk they're just kinda weird lookin'. They'll probably grow on me though. This gen has that effect lol. Everything else in this trailer is amazing though. Didn't think I could like a Muk so much
New Kahuna looks cool.
*Edit: Just read Hakamo-o's description on the Sun&Moon website. That thing is cool o_o
Like Alolan Muk but I don't think I could use it with all that movement. I'll probably get sick quickly.
I don't know if they have talked about it before but would there be a Pokemon League? What happen after we beat all the trials?
@rjejr Don't know about individual articles, but I think I saw @Serebii mentioning on Twitter that this is the... 18th reveal or so?
@rjejr Well, it's a second party-title; TPCI is partially owned by Nintendo, but they themselves do most of the nitty-gritty.
It helps that the games were announced in the same year they were released, among other factors.
@rjejr Here's the thing though, Pokémon and Zelda are two completely different games with completely different demographics.
This requires different types of marketing that both have their advantages. Nintendo is showing off very little of Zelda as to not spoil anything for their core audience- hardcore Nintendo games who have already been sold on the game from the massive information dump.
@aniki7 Those evolutions , specially the last one looks overdesigned, like really busy... usually the arguments people use to dismiss a fakemon.
I don't like it, really.
Wow, I love all of them!
But look at this from the Official Website...
"Alolan Muk eats whatever is in reach without pausing, and if it feels the sharp pangs of hunger, it runs amuck."
"amuck"
@Mega_Yarn_Poochy I love it.
Love the hype and all, but a large proportion of the game's content being revealed just makes me feel that my upcoming playthrough will be that much less enjoyable.
Yeah, I guess you could say if I don't want spoilers, I shouldn't look. But let's be realistic, how can you avoid such things in this day and age (especially when you're in the industry too)?
I dunno, I guess I just miss the era of having a game as a complete surprise. Imagine finding Alolan Grimer organically, only to feel excited while waiting to see what Alolan Muk would look like.
I understand the concept of marketing etc., but there's other ways to promote the game and increase interest rather than simply revealing loads of its content...
Alola Muk really learned how to Stay Fresh!
There are now more things that must be killed with fire......
Alola Muk aka the clown vomit Pokemon
@SM4SHshorts The Pokémon Company could do something else, but let's be honest here, the best way to advertise this is new Pokémon because that's what 95% of people care about in Pokémon games.
Not everyone cares about online modes or Pokémon Refresh for example and, thus, they tie in the news with more Pokémon to make more people care about the news.
@Yorumi
Haha, true. To add to that, Pokemon told us more about the NX than Nintendo did when this story dropped.
https://www.nintendolife.com/news/2016/09/nintendo_nx_will_change_the_concept_of_home_console_and_handheld_gaming_says_pokemon_company_president
@Mega_Yarn_Poochy I hear you, but I guess I'm just comparing this to some of the earlier gen launches. The internet was obviously nowhere near as dense as it is now, and if you really wanted to know the inside scoop of the games before they came out, you'd have to look to magazines etc.
Now though, anything and everything found out about an upcoming game is blasted on the web, regardless of intention. Early playthroughs are covered by popular YouTubers, and even Nintendo and The Pokémon Company themselves just reveal way too much for my liking. Keep most of it under wraps, and you'll still generate enough interest as well as yield more organic playthroughs. It's common sense that there will be more features and new Pokémon in an upcoming game at this point, so there's no need to show us so much. Hoping Breath of the Wild doesn't receive a similar treatment, though I already feel I've seen enough
RIP playground rumours - boy I loved that era
I'm definitely enjoying Olivia's introduction ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
While it is just a fancy info dump, it's a pretty good one. I can agree with most that Hakamo-o and Kommo-o are a tad overdesigned, it won't stop me from loving them nonetheless.
My favorite of all is the remake of Arceus. The Type:null Pokémon, simply wow!!!
@rjejr Zelda can't have too many reveals due to its story driven action/ adventure nature. Plus unlike Pokemon there isn't a big incentive to reveal locations or bosses or enemies and most of that falls into really big spoiler territory as opposed to "hey look at what is new and exciting" with pokemon's collect-o-thon. I mean they could show what you collect in Zelda but are you excited to see bugs or skulltulla or whatever?
Any Zelda fan or just action adventure fan got more than enough at e3. They could splice that footage up to make commercials though...that would be nice for the casuals.
@Yorumi (shrugs) I already mentioned commercial potential. I'm glad we disagree as usual, but I stand by my statement. /weary sarcasm
I don't know anyone that isn't already planning on getting BotW that wants to see more footage because they want to wander around and discover it for themselves. If you feel differently fine, but that doesn't make my comment nonsensical. Have a nice day.
Edit: updated to reflect that I am talking about Zelda and to tag a response made in exasperation.
I think with have this generation's Gardevoir(/Lopunny/Gothitelle?) now.
@Yorumi Exactly.
@Ryu_Niiyama "can't have too many reveals"
I think there is a wide margin between "zero" and "too many". There are supposedly over 100 of those little dungeons in the full game, surely 1 a month for 4 months wouldn't give too much away? You know, just to keep the fans interested. We've hardly seen anything of Zelda as far as cities and NPCs.
I'm still waiting for a Fairy/Poison type
Pretty sure we'll know every single bit of the game by the time it comes out. It's really sad tbh that if you wanna experience a game by yourself, you'll have to avoid social media or the internet in general just because a company can't keep its mouth shut about at least a few bits of features of a game in a bad dash to advertise said game. Oh well, guess it's my fault for being here.
All these weird type combinations will be really confusing in battle.
P.S.: Gay pride Muk hahaha
@rjejr I think marketing via commercials is a more palatable route for Zelda (the footage they have already released is fine for the masses) but I'll concede that with the high volume of mini dungeons they could find a few to show that don't give away items or story plot points. Although that will require them to put Link's shirt back on.
We still know nothing really of importance about the Aether Foundation, the origin of Ultra Beast, what Team Skull/Guzma/Gladion's goals are. We haven't seen the complete Pokedex for the new area. We haven't met all the new characters, all the new game mechanics, much of any of the new region, all the new moves and anything about the post game. There is still a lot left to reveal and anyone worrying they are showing too much must not have played a Pokemon game back when it came out a whole year or more early in Japan and the whole game was ruined by let's players. Also at the end of the day if you don't want to be spoiled then unfollow all Pokemon related content on social media and stick to gaming sites that use spoiler warnings. It's not as hard as some of you make it out to be.
English version also cut this part out.
Guessing they didn't want to reveal too much backstory for her.
@Mega_Yarn_Poochy "This requires different types of marketing that both have their advantages."
I don't see any advantages to pretending a game doesn't exist - we've never seen a single photo labeled "Zelda NX version". I'm not even sure you can even call that a "marketing strategy", it's just being cheap and lazy. Yes, the diehard fans may not want any spoilers, but do you only want to sell a game to it's diehard fans, or do you maybe want to bring in new people? Silence doesn't bring in new people.
@CrazedCavalier "It helps that the games were announced in the same year they were released, among other factors."
Yeah, I suppose, I think Zelda BotW is just trying to be released in the same decade it was announced.
@MarcelRguez So, what's that make it then, 18-1? I think I recall 1 tweet of Link cooking a month or so back.
I don't need a complete walk thru, but surely they can show off some random duck pics, or whatever that big walking thing was on the cliff. Did everybody notice that big brown walking thing on the cliff, it was only there in the background for a few seconds at the 18 sec mark.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1rPxiXXxftE
They could do an ongoing series, "The wildlife of Breath of the Wild". No spoilers, just more info. ducks, deer, birds, boar, fish, giant walking skeleton things. Once upon a time they did a good job w/ the SSB dojo, something updated occasionally like that. The video has a link to pre-order the game. People might be more inclined to pre-order a game if Ntinod gave people a reminder that the game still exists.
That's what twitter is for, tweeting stuff occasionally. And it's not like Wii U has a lot of Ntinod games coming out the next 6 months, Paper Mario is already out, Zelda is all Wei U has left, and the only NX Nintnedo game we know about, might as well promote it, or tell us more NX games and promote them. But promote something other than Pokemon.
@rjejr They've been dropping short clips on Twitter for a while, but it's all uninteresting stuff. Things we've already seen in the demo, mainly. I don't think it's new footage even, it looks like it's been taken out from Treehouse's direct feed.
And I remember the Dojo and Japan Time. Those were glorious times, the hype train had never carried such momentum. The way I see it, they're keeping quiet about BotW for two reasons:
1. They've already shown most of the plateau. I've been watching long clips of people playing the game (+20' at least, 40' on average) and it already feels like I know my way around the place. Even in an open-world game, there's only so much you can show in just one area. Admittedly, there's stuff most people don't mention or show. Case in point: did you know there's frogs in the game? As in, small animal wildlife (besides birds) roaming around? I don't think that has been shown in detail, but it's not exactly revolutionary stuff either.
2. This is the calm before the storm. Once (if) the NX gets revealed, they'll be going at full throttle with BotW info. It's going to be the flagship title of the console, E3 was just the beginning. They'll be promoting other launch titles as well, of course, but the main focus will be Zelda. I expect the Wii U version of the game to be all but forgotten, they'll probably pretend it doesn't exist.
@Yorumi I'm not talking so much about Nintendo having a huge amount of games at launch, more about Nintendo promoting BotW aggressively alongside the NX. Judging by their E3 plans, they seem to have embraced that mindset when it comes to the game. And even now, in what has to be the weirdest console transition in recent memory, they still drop tidbits of the game here and there. I don't think it's unrealistic at all to expect Nintendo focusing their NX campaign on BotW while revealing a number of first-party titles at the same time. I'm picturing something like that January 2013 Wii U Direct.
I understand your viewpoint and I share it to an extent, but I also think there's no comparing current Nintendo to the (pre)Wii U Nintendo for a number of reasons (namely their new leadership, restructuring and the hopefully eye-opening bomb that was the Wii U). Going back to Breath of the Wild, it seems obvious to me that they're trying to approach the market differently, both in terms of game design and in terms of promotion. If they manage to keep that game's momentum, there's no way to go but up.
Of course, then there's the matter of what the hell the NX even is. It could be received badly, halting the aforementioned momentum and stopping the impact of whatever else they have in its tracks. There's not a lot we can safely say about that with the little official info we have in our hands, so I'm just going to remain hopeful.
Alola Muk looks sick (pun intended).
@Yorumi I'd argue that, in the end, the impatience of the most dedicated users doesn't matter one bit. Most potential NX consumers aren't sitting in comments sections such as this one, waiting for the announcement. Only fans dedicated enough to buy a Wii U (plus a fragment of the 3DS's installbase, I'd image) are getting impatient. After the reveal, the months of waiting will be forgotten, for better or worse.
Now, if the NX's reveal disappoints due to Nintendo not meeting realistic expectations, then I won't make excuses for them. They are letting the narrative get out of control with each passing day, it's 100% their fault. That said, the hybrid concept has been lukewarmly received at best. Most people have a very middle-of-the-road opinion about it, the "wait and see" approach seems to be the standard. If they knew the idea would be this controversial, it might have been a good idea to let people get used to the concept before revealing the specifics. Pure speculation, obviously, but I think there's a certain logic to that.
That doesn't mean I don't agree completely with your idea about teasing the system at E3, though (and that Zelda bit too). It would have been great for them to adhere to a regular release plan and to have it out of the door for the holiday period, but that ship has already sailed. All that's left is to see what can be done with the situation they put themselves into. In my opinion, the doom and gloom claims are a tad bit exaggerated and not all hope is lost.
Grass Pokemon are killing in this generation! C'mon I don't even know what I'll choose!
I happened to realize that in the japanese trailer that when revealing all the new pokemon for this video, All of them were fighting Gen 1 Pokemon.
@RodSD64 It's based on the iridescence one would see from spilt oil.
@MarcelRguez Two good reasons that I can't argue with. My main problem at the moment is really more the complete lack of Wii U games on the horizon for the holiday - we bought PMCS on Friday - coupled with the complete lack of NX game news. To me, it looks like Nintendo is completely abandoning the home console market, but then they expect people to buy an NX in March. Why would anybody buy an NX after watching Nintendo so utterly ignore the Wii U? 3rd party support is out of their control, but where is this year's XCX or Devils Third or or Fatal Frame or Animal Crossing: amiibo Festival? PM = Ultra Tennis, but where's the rest?
If they want to drop Wii U, at least show us Pikmin 4, Super Mario Galaxy 3, Luigi Mansion 3 and Spla2oon on NX. Show me where the games are. All I see are SMM, Wooly Yoshi, Pikmin and Sports Mario all on 3DS. Why shouldn't everybody buy a PS4 or X1S when Nintendo looks to have abandoned home console games?
That's my problem with the lack of Zelda promotion, it's the ONLY home console game they have left. The only one. Not even a freebie that I'm aware of. When you only have 1 home console game and you expect people to buy your next new hybrid/home console then you better promote the heck out of that 1 game.
@Yorumi I felt very good about games coming until that 3DS Nintendo Direct. Super Mario Maker, Yoshi Wooly World & Poochy, Pikmin, Mario Sports Superstars.
If all those games are still coming out on 3DS, some in 2017, what games are being prepared for NX?
And Pikmin and Mario Sports aren't due out until 2017. If Nintendo can tell us about Mario Sports, due out in Spring 2017, why can't they tell us about NX games due out before that in Winter 2017? (March is still winter on my calendar, spring starts in April.)
It makes no sense. Nintendo does everything backwards.
Very cool. This is gonna be such a fun region.
@rjejr
"All Everybody" want that Nintendo reveals NX and games for NX ""now"";
Yes, This is important for the fascinating (and annoying) hype generated since the announcement of the name and the insane amount of rumors that everyone should better ignore.
However, If all remember, when Nintendo revealed Zelda for Wii U, all right and happy, until that Nintendo decided to delay 1 year more (as many games nowadays), then, many bothered and even disappointed knowing that this could be predictable, knowing that today, games like these (AAA) take a lot of development time.
Well, in other words, If Nintendo reveals NX and all right, well, really, all right for Nintendo and We; but, if some fail after of the reveal (any delay, buged console or incomplete games), Nintendo need time for fix it, and here many claiming and blaming to Nintendo, when many of them were pushing that Nintendo revealed it right now and respect the date, but oh well...
@SakuraHaruka But at least if they showed NX, for people who decided they didn't like it and didn't want it, those people could stop caring and wouldn't care if it got delayed after that. And by this point, a lot of people are starting to expect it to be delayed anyway. Nintendo isn't doing itself any favors withholding NX info.
And you know, if they were concerned about making the launch dste, they could still have shown it long ago without a date.
Think about this - I don't know how old you are or what your interests are - but what other product have you known in your life that had a launch date, March 2017, but you didn't know what that product was? Why announce a date before announcing what the product was, that's backwards. Show the product first, then announce when people can get it, doing it the other way around is very annoying to your customer base.
@rjejr
I remember when consoles and games was revealed as surprise, nobody expect some and the companies could lauch games and consoles without pressures of a release lauch (by fans, clarifying)
Sorry, but I don't agree with this idea of that there is an announcement "right now", if still not "ready" as it should be; I understand "the pressure" of many that want know "what is NX", but I believe that if That people understand that it is patience in first place, Nintendo could give a real surprise with NX and it could a great gift for all fans, but, well...
And believe me, I also want know "what is NX", also, I want a new F-Zero, a new original Panel de Pon (with original characters), and more, I know that some of those games maybe never return, but I keep waiting for any future news; Patient is a virtue and rewards are guaranteed, but, if pressure win and some fail, well, and, in this case, as many say around here, Nintendo will be guilty and the only guilty, "it isn't?", Fans "never" are responsible, "right?"
...
oh well...
@SakuraHaruka "I remember when consoles and games was revealed as surprise, nobody expect some and the companies could lauch games and consoles without pressures of a release lauch (by fans, clarifying)"
Yes, but did those companies say 20 months in advance - "We are working on a new platform now, codename NX, and we will tell you about it in 2016" as Iwata did in March 2015? Did those companies go to E3 18 months in advance and say " We will tell you about NX next year" as Reggie did during the Ntineod Direct at E3 in 2015?
So yes, it is Ntineod's fault. You can't keep saying over and over again - "We have NX and we will tell you about it in 2016" but then wait until the very end of 2016 to tell people about it and they won't even say yet when they will tell us about it.
Imagine it this way - parents tell their children - "In 2017 we aren't going to celebrate Christmas presents on Decmeber 25th, we are going to pick one day at random to open Christmas present sin the morning." Is it the parents fault or the children's fault if the children wake up every day and go look in the living room for presents, and by summer and autumn the children are getting upset b/c they have been waiting all year, each day, every day, to get their presents?
You can blame the children if you want, you can say they are spoiled and should just wake up every day and go about their normal routine, not thinking about the presents, and they should just save their excitement for the day the presents are there, you can do that, but me, I'm blaming the parents for doing that to their children.
That is what Nintendo is doing to some of their most faithful and loyal followers. And some of those gamers are going to stop following Ntineod and Christmas and go become jewish and buy a PS4 or Xbox 1 S and start celebrating Hanukah instead.
The trick to any good sale is to under promise and over deliver. So far Nintendo has over promised for 1 1/2 years and so far they have delivered nothing. That's not a good way to run a business or a family.
And you should always show the product first, then say when it is coming out. Don't tell people when something is coming out w/o first telling them what it is, you will drive them crazy as they try to guess what it is. By the time it comes out they may have stopped guessing and bought something else instead.
@ everybody talking about the nx, this was an article about Pokémon not nix stuff seriously u people are being obnoxious
@rjejr
+1 1/2 year for don't reveal NX?, there have been worse cases where something takes up more than 3 years to be shown, and still reaches the market and succeeds.
You think that this it's only fault of Nintendo, and, I think that both (Nintendo and Fans/Press); however, for me, It's good how things are going, because Nintendo is carefully and patiently preparing everything to present NX (knowing that leaves many "impatient" waiting for the news "of the year", and that directly affects business, but that's business, decisions will never be the enjoyment of all and make as much as possible to keep everyone happy (company and consumers));
And the fans and the press, which is supposed, should be enjoying the current games and watching more news that is not only NX, and when all get the news of long-awaited NX, well, minimun, the enjoyment of having once and for all that is NX will be fulfilled.
But well, This never will end..., well, When NX be revealed, all we see really that is NX; but, after, something will replace NX (and hype and awaited news) and here we go again...
@Fbigabig
Yeah, Well, as you see, according, Nintendo it is to blame for not showing the NX, and people who have no patience to wait for news that sooner or later come looking anywhere to show that disagreement; As they say, life on the internet ...
oh well...
@SakuraHaruka "And the fans and the press, which is supposed, should be enjoying the current games and watching more news that is not only NX"
Well that's a big part of the problem also, which is Nitneod's fault.
Nintneod is a videogame company, they are supposed to make videogames for people who bought their $300 home console Wii U. Last holiday the Wii U had Xenoblade Chronicles X, Mario Tennis Ultra Smash, Animal Crossing: amiibo Festival, Fatal Frame, Devil's Third, Lego Dimensions, Disney Infinity 3, Skylanders Superchargers. This holiday Wii U hsa Paper Mario and SKylanderers Imgainators. That is all. And Paper Mario and Skylanders are already out. So, if Nintneod wants us to talk about something other than NX, they should give us games to talk about. What kind of company sells people a $300 home console but then when Christmas comes there aren't any games on the console? If Zelda BotW was coming out this holiday, or Super Mario Galaxy 3 or Luigi's Mansion 3 or Pikmin 4, a game this holiday for us to talk about, then we would talk about it, but there are no more games on the Wii U to talk about. None. Well ok, Just Dance, but that's still on Wii. Are we still supposed to be tlaking about Wii gam eJust Dance in 2016?
I know 3DS owners have a lot of games to talk about and look forward to, but Ntineod really let their Wii U fans down. That's why we are waiting so impatiently for NX news, b/c we don't have any WiiU news to talk about. Nintendo hasn't even really talked about Zelda since E3, and that was 4 months ago. 4 months with no real news about Zelda. Why so quiet?
Nintendo is trying to have ti both ways but that isn't fair - they are telling us - "Sorry, no Wii U games this year, we put them all on NX next year." But they won't tell us what those games are. That isn't fair.
Darksiders Remastered was also supposed tp be on Wii U this month, but it currently doens't have a Wii U date, only next month for Xbox1S and PS4.
Wii U fans only have NX to talk about. That is Nintendo's fault.
