Re: Review: Pokémon Legends: Z-A: Mega Dimension (Switch 2) - Repetition Takes The Shine Off

@ThatOneLevel "I don't recall other games doing other than the enhanced editions and remakes for the next console generation."

It certainly happened in places. Look how many versions of Street Fighter 2 there are after all, plus you have stuff like the alternate versions of Persona 3 and Shin Megami Tensei 3, there being two separate SNES versions of the first Final Fight one of which was a rental-exclusive, and how a number of the early Harvest Moons have separate boy and girl versions.

It really just feels incredibly cheap, like they were trying to figure out a way to make it drawn out as long as possible while putting in the absolute bare minimum amount of effort.

Also god would it kill this game to shut up every once in awhile? So tired of constantly checking in with the useless friend groups in these games to endlessly hear about food, no clue why nearly every Pokemon game does this now but it gets to be infuriating.

Re: Japanese Charts: Sorry Samus, Octopath Is The Best-Selling New Release This Week

Lizuka

Really doubting it's a release that's going to have much in the way of legs given 1), it''s already fallen out of the top slot on the Switch 1 eShop under a week after releasing, and 2), about the most positive buzz it's really getting is, "Yeah, it's pretty good," and there are a lot of people who aren't being that nice about it.

I don't think there's any danger of Metroid as a series dying or anything - Dread is the best-selling individual release in the series and all - but between the nightmarish production and the attempts to big-up Prime not really seeming to have worked critically or commercially I could see it being a series that ends up sticking to 2D for awhile.

Re: Digital Foundry Delivers Its Tech Verdict On Red Dead Redemption For Switch 2

@Gerald You can freely use games on either, the only restriction is whichever one doesn't have a given virtual key card loaded needs to be online to use it. And even then since you can set two consoles as your primary ones you can just move the virtual cards back and forth freely anyway.

If you do a whole system transfer you'll need to re-log in on your Switch 1 and do whatever necessary setup again (which is one of a multitude of reasons why I opted not to actually do a system transfer myself and instead gradually move stuff over) but the Switch 1 will still be totally usable as a viable alternative if desired.

Re: Community: It's Time To Rate Your Switch 1 & 2 Games Of The Year

Lizuka

Okay, best to worst and filtering out ports, let's go.

The Hundred Line: Last Defense Academy
No Sleep for Kaname Date
Shuten Order
Sonic Racing CrossWorlds
Detective Instinct: Farewell, My Beloved
Story of Seasons: Grand Bazaar
Donkey Kong Bananza
Iwakura Aria (speaking of you don't seem to have an entry for that one, wasn't coming up searching for it)
Mario Kart World

Sure there's a lot worse out there than MKW but it is the one I liked the least of what I played.

Re: Talking Point: Six Months Since Launch, How Would You Rate Switch 2?

Lizuka

Great piece of hardware but there really has yet to be a game for it that's made it feel worth the purchase. I'm glad I got it before the inevitable price hike but feels like nothing until Fire Emblem's likely to make it feel must-have. And even then after how much I disliked Engage I'm kind of hesitant to let myself get that hyped up for that one.

Re: Shuten Order Is Getting A Full Physical Release On Switch 1 & 2

Lizuka

Neat, glad to hear the game's getting some love since it felt like it went pretty under the radar. I have it digitally so no interest in a physical release, but I'd definitely recommend it for anyone wondering about it.

Personally I'd say it's weaker than Danganronpa 1, 2, and V3 and Hundred Line, but it's better than Rain Code, World's End Club, and Ultra Despair Girls (and if you want to bring anime into it, better than Danganronpa 3, worse than Akudama Drive). You kind of have to be patient with it though, it's one of those games where it takes awhile to really get a feel for its structure.

Re: "It's Make-Or-Break For Sure" - Shovel Knight Dev's Fate Rests On Upcoming Zelda-Like

Lizuka

I feel like people are really overestimating the likelihood of this being a hit. In pop culture terms Shovel Knight's ancient at this point and doesn't really have much lasting legacy, this is a game that thus far hasn't really had any notable marketing or buzz that I've seen and people seem decidedly mixed on, and Cyber Shadow (which being fair they only published) didn't even hit 100,000 sales in its first year. Hoping it does well for them but I think it's certainly within the realm of possibility that it doesn't.

I think more than anything what's likely to bite them is that Shovel Knight pretty much came out at the height of the NES nostalgia wave, while there's really never been anywhere near the same kind of GBC nostalgia. Feel like between how long it's been since Shovel Knight came out, it not even being the same genre, and using an aesthetic that only really appeals to a hyper specific selection of people it's got a steep uphill climb to be a success.

Re: Mini Review: Red Dead Redemption: Nintendo Switch 2 Edition - The Update That This Epic Deserved

Lizuka

@Spider-Kev At least personally I like the first game way more than the second. The second one really drastically bloated out and slowed down the experience, on top of adding a bunch of awkward new mechanics for the sake of an attempt at realism that really makes it feel like a very different beast that while I think it's good I very much have to be in the mood for.

The first one's a lot more just GTA in the old west, for good and bad, and at least personally I think it's much more just straight up fun for that.

Re: Surprise! Another Square Enix Switch Game Is Now Compatible On Switch 2

Lizuka

Desperately wish they'd just port the Steam version of Chrono Trigger already, but at this point I imagine if it does ever end up on consoles it's going to be in the form of a remake that completely ruins it by inflicting that HD-2D trash on it. Probably while scrubbing out all the DS content given how Square loves for modern releases of their games to have less content for some reason.
