@MirrorFate2 Honestly while it's probably a factor, if it were the only thing stopping them from doing another they'd just call it like Mario & Sonic at the Winter Games and just drop the Olympics tie-in. Doubt that having the official branding really makes much difference in terms of the sales.
It really is amazing how much cushion you can give yourself to keep trying things when you made one game people liked but didn't buy 24 years ago. Dude's been nothing but a failure since, see no reason to expect that to change now.
Weird choice to rebrand it that way now, given the title screen being changed to have a 2 on has been a thing since day one. Maybe it's a sign of DLC being made official around the anniversary event in April and them wanting to market that as 3?
i imagine it'll be a problem that levels out (though I'd argue to this day it still really hasn't for the PS5 so maybe not) but I definitely agree that the Switch 2 feels more like a new model of Switch than a distinct thing. Probably doesn't really help that I don't think there's yet been an exclusive for it that feels worth a new console to play and the only potential one even announced at the moment is Fortune's Weave. ... And really after Engage I'm hesitant to get all that excited for it.
Glad the ink ribbon thing is optional since I've definitely always been on the, "They stopped doing this for a reason," side of that argument.
Either way I'll probably get Requiem at some point but I don't think it'll be at launch. Capcom stuff drops in price quickly and really the only reason I'm even tempted is the 7 and 8 ports coming with it.
I think it kind of needs a better background to really judge the look of the costume; just having in front of a stock photo background gives it a very definite, "This is just cosplay," vibe.
Think the best case of how to balance them I've seen is Xenoblade 3, where they pretty much entirely unlock cosmetic stuff, but it's 1), neat stuff that you'd have reason to want, and 2), all of it can be unlocked without them but it's all late or post-game stuff.
TotK also handled it decently, making the actually good unlockables also able to be gotten in-game for free while only putting something more minor behind the paywall.
@SearchingS One of the Japanese actors in the game, Teruyuki Kagawa, was accused of and admitted to sexual assault in 2022 and has numerous other accusations around him, and he's not only still in the game but getting spotlighted in trailers and stuff. It's really, really gross that he's in there.
@FuzzieGinge88 Depends on whether or not you consider graphics to be the defining element above everything else. It's entirely possible for a version of a game to look a little worse but still be the best version of the experience in other ways.
I moved a few months ago and the one near where I lived was one of the ones that closed, so that sucks. And where I moved in there's a mall nearby that for a long time had a Gamestop (and used to have two) but it closed up a few months ago.
There is still one not too far away, but still, it sucks when people lose work.
@garfreek Honestly the biggest problems with BDSP are that they chose to make it a faithful remake of a pair of games that was deeply flawed to begin with and they didn't really have the dev time to properly bug test it. It's really not bad at all - did a second run through of it last year - but it feels like the exact same thing but based on Platinum instead would on its own be significantly better.
My top three games were most to least Hundred Line, Persona 3 Reload, and Pokemon Scarlet. By month my most played was...
January - Donkey Kong Country Returns February - Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door March - Pokemon Scarlet April - The Hundred Line: Last Defense Academy May - The Hundred Line: Last Defense Academy June - Pokemon Scarlet July - Donkey Kong Bananza (though doesn't really count, friend was playing it on my profile) August - Pokemon Scarlet September - Shuten Order October - Persona 3 Reload November - Persona 3 Reload December - Fitness Boxing 3
@Dom_31 That Iwata story's a myth, all he actually did was slightly improve decompression times. Useful, but not like, "Saved the game," levels or anything.
I might pick up another set just in case but seeing as I just sat on one for a year up until eventually settling on, "Fine, I'll use it on Xenoblade X before it expires I guess, whatever," probably better to not bother.
Really very firmly not my thing, though hope it turns out well for folks who are interested.
As for Mega Dimension, I kind of put up with a lot of compounding annoyances until I hit the special scans and that was the point where I got completely fed up and deleted the game. Been about a month since I've touched it and not sure I'll do so again any time soon, it's a case where I think having the DLC actually lowers the quality of the overall product.
@Kyloctopus Honestly the one game I've seen I think handles it correctly is Xenoblade 3, in that everything they're used for can in some way or other be gotten without them, but it's all late game and a lot of it's kind of a grind.
Though Tears of the Kingdom isn't terrible in having the actually good unlockables be available otherwise while the more minor ones are exclusive.
They really need to at some point add an ability to pick and choose which Gamecube games you have installed. The app's already nearly tripled in size since it launched and it still only actually has eight games with a ton of first party stuff not there yet.
If the Fitness Boxing DLC were coming out here today then I'd grab it, but seems like they're dragging their feet on it for some reason. Past that not really planning to get anything until Death Match Love Comedy and Mario Tennis next month, though maybe I'll end up springing for FF7R if the mood strikes me.
Feels kind of dumb that they didn't throw Baby Daisy and Rosalina in there since they're already established and would work as extra story mode options. Also wish Dixie could get into these things every once in awhile.
Petey, Goomba, and Kamek are some nice surprises at least.
@FrenchVaniIIuxe The game almost killed the studio because they got jerked around by their first publisher leading them to have to restart development and the scope of it spiraled out of their control because it's an incredibly dense, ambitious game and they mistakenly thought a tactical RPG would be very cheap to make. And even then, "almost" is doing a lot of work there because it didn't and they're fine now.
You tilting at windmills because you don't know what localization is has nothing to do with it.
@ShadowRJ Yeah, it's mild adjustments on two images (kinda three because one of them has a variant) deep into one specific route, and it's still entirely clear what you're looking at and not really at all important to the overall narrative anyway. It's completely irrelevant.
@sunspotty Yeah, I have no clue how anyone could possibly think Uchikoshi supports their bigoted nonsense. AI: The Somnium Files has a part where Mizuki stops to lay out how the fact she's uncomfortable around Mama has nothing whatsoever to do with her being trans, and then Nirvana Initiative has a scene in the same location that's very clearly Mizuki ranting at the people who complained about that scene in the first game and reinforcing her support. It isn't subtle.
@Warioware If it were to meaningfully update the visuals it likely would need to be, since the sprites are at a pretty low resolution. They'd probably need to patch in new versions of all of them.
Would be nice, though I know in the past Kodaka's been pretty upfront that whether Hundred Line will get other console versions mostly depends on the publisher and I imagine that would also apply to a Switch 2 upgrade.
Feels like one of those, "Cool you can do it but why are you doing it?" things. Paying extra so your model can play an occasional jingle just doesn't feel worth it to me.
@the_beaver "They shouldn't make another Metroid Prime game because you dared to criticize the one they did release," is an utterly wild take. They don't make these things out of charity, they're selling them as a product and when you do that you open yourself up to negative feedback.
And it's not like it's even an unusual opinion either. The game didn't review super great and a lot of people are complaining about the pacing and the desert sections and the story. It's cool that some people are loving it but plenty of people aren't and that's reflected in the pretty mixed word of mouth it's getting.
Honestly kind of disappointed it's not an entire game, but even just music I'm definitely down for, will totally pick it up.
Also it stands out as kind of weird that it's specifically billed as a Royal DLC pack when only I Believe is actually from Royal. Would think Take Over or Throw Away Your Mask would be in there, especially since you could probably argue that having both I Believe and Life Will Change is pretty redundant in instrumental form.
The oddest thing about the European cover to me is that Dr. Salvador also seems to be holding a hatchet for some reason. Not sure why he needs that when he's got a chainsaw.
Honestly I kind of expect the next remasters or ports they'll do will be the Q games, surprised those didn't come right after the Etrian Odyssey ports.
Probably just a lot of random short platformers I haven't played since this time last year like SMB3 and Yoshi's Island.
If I end up doing something more substantive it'll probably be Danganronpa V3, been wanting to do another run of it before 2x2 comes out. Though I've lately also been really wondering about replaying 13 Sentinels.
Only things on my radar at the moment are Death Match Love Comedy, Mario Tennis, Danganronpa 2x2, and Fortune's Weave. Might pick up FF7 or RE9, kind of remains to be seen, but not dying for them.
Had that stuff turned on last year and still never got anything but an error message when I tried to look at my summary.
Though either way I know my most played Switch or Switch 2 game this year was definitely Hundred Line followed by probably either Pokemon Scarlet or Persona 3 Reload.
It'd be a day one buy for me, been pretty into Fitness Boxing 3 lately and the biggest complaint I have with it is the soundtrack is kind of meh which a Persona 5 version would instantly solve.
I really just hope they do some kind of retro rerelease for the anniversary. I'd settle for gens 1 through 3 on NSO but I'd really love it if the DS games could get some kind of rerelease themselves, or even the 3DS ones.
Honestly if they did some kind of separate retro Pokemon game subscription service with Home compatibility I'd pay for it in a heartbeat.

That's less a "funny" story and more an insanely stupid and petty one.
