I really don't at all buy that given how every game he does he's central to the marketing including overly long, dull videos where he just rambles on and on barely actually saying anything about the game, not to mention his, "Here's why I'm so great," Youtube series. Guy strikes me as someone who thoroughly enjoys the sound of his own voice and wants himself to be a brand.
He's talented for sure, but I'm not exactly inclined to think the guy who keeps saying no one but him could make games like he does is humble.
Yeah, I'm firmly on the side of, "Co-op-only shouldn't be a thing." Being made with that in mind then sure, whatever, but it's a big ask to not provide any kind of alternative option for someone who doesn't have anyone to play with or rightfully doesn't want to engage with randoms, and any game that doesn't provide some kind of single player option isn't worth my time personally.
Random but neat. I already played through the game so doesn't do me a lot of good in the short term but glad there's an upgrade option, can see myself doing another run of it sometime since while it's not exactly my favorite Kodaka project it is pretty good, I'd feel comfortable in saying it's better than Rain Code and Ultra Despair Girls at least even if it can't compare to Hundred Line or Danganronpa 1, 2, and V3. ... Admittedly my opinion might've been a little higher if not for how right before it came out I finally got around to watching Akudama Drive and also thought that was better.
Hopefully they fix some of the awkward translation stuff (especially the weird bit where one half of a conversation is misgendering someone but not the other half, no clue how they even managed to introduce that problem in translating it but it makes a character you're supposed to like come off as utterly loathesome) and the parts where the text goes off the screen somehow. It's a very readable translation but it isn't really an ideal one.
Only ones of them I've really played on my Switch 2 yet were Odyssey and ARMS, and didn't notice any giant glowups with either or anything but they both looked and ran perfectly fine which is really all you can ask for.
Honestly the more I look at this design the more I hate it. I was on board with giving Zeraora a Mega because it's always been boring and ill-defined (and it was the worst part of my favorite Pokemon movie) but this just looks like really offputting scribbles. Feels like there was no real consistent philosophy in how this design was done, they just drew lines and spikes until they didn't.
Square never met a get rich quick scheme that they didn't wholeheartedly embrace and then lose a ton of money on, so makes sense a former executive would still be thinking that way.
@LightSpirit Or they didn't like it. "Your opinion doesn't match with mine on this game I haven't actually played yet," does not mean the opinion's invalid.
This one was an easy pass for me since I didn't care at all about TotK's plot, didn't like Age of Calamity that much, and own five separate Musou games on the Switch at this point and don't need more of them. I might've been willing to bite if they did another dream roster game but basing it off a bunch of boring backstory characters, a large chunk of whom weren't even in TotK in the first place, meant this really just offered nothing of appeal at all to me.
@Cipher36 The fact that basically every farming game announced ever since is met with a flood of, "Who cares about this slop, just play Stardew," comments on all corners of the Internet for one thing.
Lately been wondering about checking out Among Us for the first time in a long time, but if I do will likely avoid this. Stardew Valley's a bit of a sore spot for me because I'm a big Story of Seasons fan but have strongly disliked Stardew any attempt I've made to get into it and I get irritated at how much a lot of people act like it's the only farming game that should be allowed to exist.
@Hawkes142 Being fair that UI style was initially used in Air Ride before Smash Bros. in the first place.
That said yes be it in Kid Icarus or Smash Bros. or Kirby I've always hated the way Sakurai does UI. Melee was the last game he made that had menus that weren't completely horrible.
Just finished Persona 3 Reload the other day so don't think I'm in the market for something like this right now but I'll definitely keep an eye on it for down the line.
@FrenchVaniIIuxe @RareFan She's built like a muscular woman, like you'd expect from a seasoned adventurer who's constantly running around and jumping from things and fighting wild animals and monsters (and even then she's not nearly as muscular as she probably realistically should be), and it's absurdly gross to act like that's somehow crossing some kind of line or like that makes her man-like.
@OldGamer999 They just did a Mario soccer game three years ago and despite strong initial sales they quickly fell off a cliff due to the mediocre reception. Doubt they're really rushing to make another one of those again any time soon.
I guess since this comment thread's now about Kirby as a whole...
Personally it's a series I like, don't love. Generally can pick up a Kirby game and play through it and have some fun but I'm usually not dying to get them day one or anything and there are a good few I've never actually bought at all, the original Air Ride included (though I did rent it and didn't like it). My favorite is undoubtedly Super Star Deluxe probably then followed by 64, after that's probably Adventure / Nightmare in Dream Land.
All in all I'd probably agree in calling it a 7/10 series, but I don't by any measure consider a 7/10 a bad thing. No Kirby game's ever likely to blow me away but they're generally solid, fun comfort games for when you just want something kind of mindless. Plus I imagine with the core cast mostly being super basic shapes they're probably incredibly cheap to make compared to a lot of other series.
For the record my first exposure to the series was actually Dream Course and Avalanche, got them both for my birthday when I was like five or six.
That being said if I do have a big grievance with the Kirby series it's that it's constantly dumping all kinds of new lore and darker implications in supplemental material but it's pretty much impossible to actually care about any of it at this point because none of it is ever actually going to add up to anything or in any way matter.
It's a firm, "Eh I dunno maybe," for me. Demo was fun but I just got Fitness Boxing 3 and Bayonetta 1 & 2 (during the very brief window when they were for once on sale a couple of days ago) and I'm split if I'd rather go with Kirby or Sonic to scratch the racing itch that MKW failed to scratch for me. I think I'm leaning Sonic but kind of keeping my options open at the moment.
Link looks fine, Zelda I get what they're going for but it's too vibrant of a blue for the setting in live action and just looks tacky. Though I really think there's zero chance this movie is going to be anywhere close to good regardless.
Mega Starmie's one of those designs where just the picture of it was kind of, "Erm, what?" but it just looks so great in motion. And I'm glad people are able to find something of themselves in it.
At least personally I like RDR1 way, way, WAY more than 2. 2's still very good if you're in the right mindset for it and there's something to be said about the sheer density of its content, but it has a lot of really obnoxious mechanics in the name of poorly conceptualized (and frankly in my case, entirely unwanted) realism that really just make the experience a lot more plodding than it has to be, there's entirely too much bloat, it has possibly the slowest-paced and most boring opening I've ever seen in a game, and then it also ends in hours upon hours of dull busywork. Also I think it really suffers for the fact that it's blatantly reusing plot points from and going out of its way to call back to the first game in ways that often don't feel very natural.
The first game also starts slow and slows down near the end, but I feel like being a much quicker experience on the whole does it a world of good in comparison.
That said I'd probably buy a Switch 2 port of RDR2, but it wouldn't be full price.
@Elektrogeist1287 Not really, the series is generally more of a depressing, violent horror story. It's just there's kind of a weird underlying trend in some of the games toward out of nowhere fanservice that really doesn't suit the mood at all, and the comedy spinoff included in this is especially heavy on it.
@Elektrogeist1287 Eh, varies. Blood Covered (the first one) and Blood Drive (the last one of this set) were already available anyway, and the first game's widely considered the best one while Blood Drive's pretty universally seen as the worst, but as for the other two...
Book of Shadows people are kind of mixed on. Think the overall consensus on it is that it's got its ups and downs but suffers from some irritating mechanics and bad pacing, but it's a very debated game.
Hysteric Birthday Bash I think is probably the most well-received game after Blood Covered. The fanbase generally seems to like that one in large part because it doesn't really take itself seriously.
Unfortunate, but the Japanese versions include the English translations so they can be gotten if you're willing to jump through some hoops, be it either the Japanese eShop or importing a copy.
Looking to finish up Persona 3 Reload mostly. Kind of at a point in the game where I'm very near the end but not quite AT the end so getting pretty checked out and kind of just wanting to get it over with but still enjoyed my experience more than not.
Also I've been making a habit of getting in some time with Fitness Boxing 3 on a daily basis lately.
@jojobar I mean an hour isn't an insignificant length of time, especially in a subseries where the games are usually only about 15 hours long and can be beaten in significantly less than that.
I always find it weird when people snap to, "Stop criticizing it, it's a wonderful game, this isn't actually a problem!" when referring to preview materials for something none of them have actually played yet. This isn't even the only article I've seen talking about how deeply irritating this character is.
Checked out the demo and thought it was decent but not sure if it was decent enough to sell me on the game or not, especially with the Switch 2 version of Sonic coming out a couple weeks later with me also considering going for that one instead. I'll probably play it again during the next free period and try to come to a decision on it but either way it's mostly feeling like a, "Maybe when it's 33% off in a year," kind of purchase to me.
I picked the game up when I got my Switch 2 though not gotten around to doing a run through of it yet, and it'll probably be a bit since I'm just wrapping up a playthrough of Persona 3 Reload and not looking to run through another 100 hour RPG right now.
Have already played through the game before on the 3DS though and loved it. Super recommend it, had been meaning to replay it for awhile even before the port was announced.
@Zeugziumy It isn't that unusual to try to accelerate capitalizing on a big property like this especially if it's kid-aimed because, y'know, kids are going to grow out of it so get their attention while you still have it.
Already struck me as a thing that I would not at all be into and I buy most games digitally anyway. Not interested in it but the game key card thing doesn't have any impact on why.
@wert303b I mean day one they said that not all games would be backwards compatible and put up a site listing all known games with issues, they never really acted like this was going to be seamless.
I've been holding off on getting NieR for if they ever fix its compatibility but other than that I've not really been having many issues and most everything I care about works at least for the most part.
The only issue I've really run into at all is that one time when replaying the first Danganronpa it locked up and then crashed while trying to boot, but that seems like a freak thing given it's not an issue I've otherwise seen reported and the rest of that playthrough ran better than the game does on the Switch 1.
Something about his eyes just looks really off to me. Being fair not a fan of the movie's art style in the first place, but it's especially weird with Yoshi because he looks like mostly right but the eyes have this strange uncanny look to them.
Mostly looking to finish up Persona 3 Reload, at the start of December so not a giant amount of the game left to go. All in all having fun with it but pretty ready to be done with it.
It makes narrative sense but it has always been weird they opted to just give Byleth the Dancer outfit as DLC without actually letting them have the class.
Really don't see the point in remaking either. Link to the Past is definitely aged in some respects but it's still very playable, doesn't have the limited control scheme holding it back the way Link's Awakening did, and its map has been revised enough into other games that it wouldn't really even feel novel at this point.
As for Chrono Trigger, entirely under the opinion that any kind of remake could only make the experience worse, especially if you inflicted that HD-2D vomit on it. I wish they'd port it to modern consoles, desperately overdue, but remaking it would be a mistake in my view.
@Bobb It actually runs a bit deeper than that. There are sidequests in the game to catch Mewtwo and Diancie but they require having the Mega Stones to activate.
I'm having fun with the collection but it definitely has issues. I'm mostly just disappointed that the messy launch of this probably doomed any likelihood of eventually getting a PS2 game collection since by now the widespread negative word of mouth is already out there and likely impacting the sales.
Mario Tennis and Fire Emblem are definites, Yoshi I'll wait for reviews since it's an incredibly inconsistent series, Mario Wonder I need to see how much single player content there is since I don't really care at all about multiplayer but Rosalina alone might tip it enough for me to get.
Not super interested in the rest. Maybe Rhythm Heaven but I've tried to get into the series before and I'm just really bad at it.
