Re: Switch Owners "Most Likely" To Own A Rival Console, 2020 Study Shows

Livewired

@Zuljaras I don't consider any of them rivals anymore. Microsoft is into providing maximum choice these days with Gamepass subscriptions, cloud services while offering console as one of their pillars.

Sure haven't Sony placed Microsoft in charge of their cloud services.

Really the rivalry is gone. I think it is only fanboys which are dropping like flies due to covid that keep some element of it going.

Re: UK Charts: Assassin's Creed Valhalla Takes Christmas Number One, Four Nintendo Games Hit Top Ten

Livewired

@TheFullAndy ah they'll get it patched up yet. I know that patch 1.05 increased traffic and crowd density and texture detail while bringing the Xbox One X to a near stable 30fps it looks incredible actually. The og Xbox is up from 15 to 23. I would imagine the PS4 base and Pro would have seen similar upticks.

Alot of bugs still to squash but it's promising to see such an improvement in little over a week, still I'm waiting until Easter before purchase.

Only after picking up Crysis Remastered on Xbox One X also, once I heard the December patch pretty much locked the framerate in Quality mode to 30 and nearly all the issues, such as screen tear and frame timing, non loading textures, npc lighting, models etc were fixed. It is phenomenal visually but again another studio releasing a game way before it was ready for launch.

Re: Random: YouTuber Shows Google Stadia Version Of Cyberpunk 2077 Running On Switch

Livewired

@nessisonett I don't know, its the first time Stadia has managed to run a game better than Xbox One X even and it has the same reduced NPC settings as the base Ps4/Xbox including all the glitches and basic AI as does PC.

All versions will likely be up to speed in the next year.

I will add that I think the Geforce now version is the only reason for cloud streaming due to its ray tracing and high settings.

Re: Nintendo Of America President Doug Bowser Congratulates Xbox On The Series X|S Launch

Livewired

@jarvismp Every generation of new graphics cards on PC launch without 'exclusive' games, but PC gamers use upgrade mainly to play games they already have.

The cross gen releases will have a nice visual boost regardless and all the previous gen multiplat games are getting excellent performance boosts, which are best on Series X.

All I'll say is people want consoles on launch day, others don't. People pay full price, others wait.

Kinda defeats your point lol.

Re: Mass Effect Legendary Edition Isn't Coming To Switch After All

Livewired

@Crono1973 yes, but every EA release on Nintendo life is lamented and shunned on these boards which represent Nintendo fans.

If MET released on Switch at same price or with Nintendo's tax and missing features of the enhanced version we would have another high profile FIFA condemnation on our hands.

It's a no win situation. Mass Effect 3 is one of my fav Wii U games and it was shunned by the majority of fans also. People forgot porting to Wii U took money and Nintendo's dev tools were horrific, for instance all games had to run on a single core until Nintendo updated their dev kits a year too late. I know Switch has great tools and easy to work on but it still takes resources.

Re: Frame Rate And Resolution For Hyrule Warriors: Age Of Calamity Demo Revealed

Livewired

@Menardi OOT is by nature a slow paced game and so the comparison is mute.

OOT on real hardware on a crt or via ultra HDMI looks perfectly fine, the issues regarding lag crop up with converting Analogue to digital signals on modern sets, the same issues reside playing all pre HDMI retro consoles, hence why there has been monumental community effort in creating HDMI solutions.

Re: Frame Rate And Resolution For Hyrule Warriors: Age Of Calamity Demo Revealed

Livewired

@SimonCucho It all comes down to the type of game. Adventure games, ie ones that are slower paced by nature will still be fine, but not ideal with a substandard framerate. 30FPS is a perfect framerate target, when 30 is done right, as it often is, it is impossible to tell from 60 or 120.

However when there is a 25 frame fluctuation, 5-30fps as shown here it is unfortunately not acceptable.

A game focused on fast arcade action like Hyrule Warriors should be as close to a locked 30 as possible on Switch. 😘😘😘

Re: Feature: Best Nintendo 64 Games

Livewired

@aaronsullivan Perfect Dark got away with it... played through recently on real hardware and had no issues, it simply works on the hardware, though perhaps having a hdmi modded console helps, there is always additional lag through all other methods converting for modern tvs.

In terms of Banjo Kazooie - it was about exploration. Back in 1997/1998 the thing that won me over was huge worlds to run around and simply explore. I wasn't racing to complete these games, they are simply unique to that era.

Donkey Kong 64 has a patch now for all Kongs anywhere, by pressing the d pad on N64 so it actually makes the game fun to play through.

@InAnotherCastle Their sequels would be in the form of a fleshed out career mode, online, customisation, leaderboards, tournaments - all the perks of todays racing games. Definitely a market.

Re: "Nintendo Isn't That Smart": Pachter Says Nintendo Should Scrap ïŧŋSwitch And 'Only Have Switch ïŧŋLite'

Livewired

@tourjeff Research 🙄 I think console mode is good for Nintendo only gamers who only use switch and like to use it is a home console.

Nearly everyone I know uses it as a handheld, but I think it is a good feature to keep.

However Pachter is right about wireless - Nintendo showed 0ms latency on Wii U gamepad so imagine using Switch as the Wii U gamepad now that would be something.

Re: Feature: Best Nintendo 64 Games

Livewired

@TG16_IS_BAE its all personal opinion.

The mechanics may be outdated now, but still fun, the dungeons are some of the best in the franchise.

OOT was also as much about running around a massive 3D world, this was still novel in 1998.

Re: Someone Is Already Playing Need For Speed On Switch, And It's Not Out Until Next Month

Livewired

@durr Really? I run Forza Horizon 4 in both 1080p60 and 4k30 mode on Xbox One X and to be honest couldn't tell the difference other than the additional detail present in 4K quality mode. Control and everything is responsive and smooth in both modes.

If it maintains a solid 30 lock it will be perfectly fine. I would imagine there would have to be significant visual and resolution downgrades on Switch to make that 60fps and obviously the developers decided in playtesting the difference wasn't worth it.
