@FargusPelagius I don't think Switch could handle 30 players online, it wouldn't have the power to be much off a leap over the GCN version considering the technical demands we would now expect - 1080p60 fps, 30 racers with obscene draw distance - that racer from Shinen while good could only handle 8.
I still use my Wii U, I copied and installed all my Wii U game discs directly on Wii U to my external SSD, and did the same with my Wii games, with custom icons, so handy and keeps the discs safe.
Simply no reason to buy a Switch as I don't do portable gaming anymore.
It's 2020 and people still pretending the Switch is a console. Switch is a portable you can dock. I don't use an mhl connection with my phone or tablet and call them consoles ðĪŠ.
@Zuljaras I don't consider any of them rivals anymore. Microsoft is into providing maximum choice these days with Gamepass subscriptions, cloud services while offering console as one of their pillars.
Sure haven't Sony placed Microsoft in charge of their cloud services.
Really the rivalry is gone. I think it is only fanboys which are dropping like flies due to covid that keep some element of it going.
@TheFullAndy ah they'll get it patched up yet. I know that patch 1.05 increased traffic and crowd density and texture detail while bringing the Xbox One X to a near stable 30fps it looks incredible actually. The og Xbox is up from 15 to 23. I would imagine the PS4 base and Pro would have seen similar upticks.
Alot of bugs still to squash but it's promising to see such an improvement in little over a week, still I'm waiting until Easter before purchase.
Only after picking up Crysis Remastered on Xbox One X also, once I heard the December patch pretty much locked the framerate in Quality mode to 30 and nearly all the issues, such as screen tear and frame timing, non loading textures, npc lighting, models etc were fixed. It is phenomenal visually but again another studio releasing a game way before it was ready for launch.
@nessisonett I don't know, its the first time Stadia has managed to run a game better than Xbox One X even and it has the same reduced NPC settings as the base Ps4/Xbox including all the glitches and basic AI as does PC.
All versions will likely be up to speed in the next year.
I will add that I think the Geforce now version is the only reason for cloud streaming due to its ray tracing and high settings.
When backwards and hostile Nintendo shuts down servers, Switch physical games can't be played again anyways as you won't be able to redownload 90% of the game ððð
No point complaining. Nintendo know they don't need to put effort in anymore as the legion of Nintendo knights will buy multiple copies and sku's to support them and the casual gamers are back in force.
@KayFiOS Playtonic wouldn't make sense. The poor guys learnt nothing from Donkey Kong 64 or the past 20 years of Mario platformers - Yooka laylee is unfortunately one of the worst collectathons in years.
@nessisonett considering you could easily remove the dark filter easily on Wii U VC games via PC suggests Nintendo were furious having to give in to fan demand and added the filter as a middle finger to fans who demanded the low price upgrade deal from Wii VC.
@kobashi100 The Xbox and PS4 versions were ported by Saber Interactive fallback teams with clearly no talent and all the ToD changes for no reason. Their best team was on Switch and it shows.
The fact Crysis runs so well on Switch is a credit to the Switch team.
@Ventilator yes, its a perfect port and locked to one core. What I'm saying is that the majority of Nintendo gamers shunned and ridiculed it while still crying about lack of great single and multiplayer shooters/rpgs. It's one of my fav games on Wii U.
@jarvismp Every generation of new graphics cards on PC launch without 'exclusive' games, but PC gamers use upgrade mainly to play games they already have.
The cross gen releases will have a nice visual boost regardless and all the previous gen multiplat games are getting excellent performance boosts, which are best on Series X.
All I'll say is people want consoles on launch day, others don't. People pay full price, others wait.
@Crono1973 yes, but every EA release on Nintendo life is lamented and shunned on these boards which represent Nintendo fans.
If MET released on Switch at same price or with Nintendo's tax and missing features of the enhanced version we would have another high profile FIFA condemnation on our hands.
It's a no win situation. Mass Effect 3 is one of my fav Wii U games and it was shunned by the majority of fans also. People forgot porting to Wii U took money and Nintendo's dev tools were horrific, for instance all games had to run on a single core until Nintendo updated their dev kits a year too late. I know Switch has great tools and easy to work on but it still takes resources.
Only Nintendo gamers could complain about a release on Switch. Cloud? Too high a price? Are you being forced to buy it? No. This nearly as boring and stupendous as the world crying about the United States next head of public relations like it even matters.
@Menardi OOT is by nature a slow paced game and so the comparison is mute.
OOT on real hardware on a crt or via ultra HDMI looks perfectly fine, the issues regarding lag crop up with converting Analogue to digital signals on modern sets, the same issues reside playing all pre HDMI retro consoles, hence why there has been monumental community effort in creating HDMI solutions.
@SimonCucho It all comes down to the type of game. Adventure games, ie ones that are slower paced by nature will still be fine, but not ideal with a substandard framerate. 30FPS is a perfect framerate target, when 30 is done right, as it often is, it is impossible to tell from 60 or 120.
However when there is a 25 frame fluctuation, 5-30fps as shown here it is unfortunately not acceptable.
A game focused on fast arcade action like Hyrule Warriors should be as close to a locked 30 as possible on Switch. ððð
This is a fine port bar the price. The only reason Mario Kart went to 1080p60 on Switch is because the Wii U edition was purposely held back to make the planned deluxe edition look better. Same goes for Zelda Wii U being purposely stripped of its Shiekah Slate mode.
The Dynasty Warriors series has always been scrappy fun, they've always been a mess technically and no entry has ever come close to a locked 30 or even 60.
Just accept for what it is, loved co op on Wii U regardless.
If applying totally stupid logic the journalist here uses - the fact is the industry standard design suits left handed gamers more naturally than right handers for player control on the left, the journalist on here is a simp ððð
@KingMike Virtuaboy was meant to be colour before Nintendo President Yamuchi came in with his gun and shot up the office in rage1. He also went on to screw over N64 with carts.
@aaronsullivan Perfect Dark got away with it... played through recently on real hardware and had no issues, it simply works on the hardware, though perhaps having a hdmi modded console helps, there is always additional lag through all other methods converting for modern tvs.
In terms of Banjo Kazooie - it was about exploration. Back in 1997/1998 the thing that won me over was huge worlds to run around and simply explore. I wasn't racing to complete these games, they are simply unique to that era.
Donkey Kong 64 has a patch now for all Kongs anywhere, by pressing the d pad on N64 so it actually makes the game fun to play through.
@InAnotherCastle Their sequels would be in the form of a fleshed out career mode, online, customisation, leaderboards, tournaments - all the perks of todays racing games. Definitely a market.
Pity. It gives Nintendo more reason to lazily throw games to the Nintendo meatboys on here fighting over every crumb to give Nintendo money.
All three titles are available to play in a massively enhanced form by fans. Why would anyone pay for a broken collection with substandard control is beyond me.
@tourjeff Research ð I think console mode is good for Nintendo only gamers who only use switch and like to use it is a home console.
Nearly everyone I know uses it as a handheld, but I think it is a good feature to keep.
However Pachter is right about wireless - Nintendo showed 0ms latency on Wii U gamepad so imagine using Switch as the Wii U gamepad now that would be something.
@durr Really? I run Forza Horizon 4 in both 1080p60 and 4k30 mode on Xbox One X and to be honest couldn't tell the difference other than the additional detail present in 4K quality mode. Control and everything is responsive and smooth in both modes.
If it maintains a solid 30 lock it will be perfectly fine. I would imagine there would have to be significant visual and resolution downgrades on Switch to make that 60fps and obviously the developers decided in playtesting the difference wasn't worth it.

Re: Cube Life: Island Survival Comes To Switch On 26th December
@PBandSmelly its no where near minecraft, incredibly short draw distance and tiny islands with little exploring.
The only thing 'unique' was its character skin creator on Wii U.

Re: Famous Footballers Think EA Could Be Illegally Profiting From Their Names And Likenesses In FIFA
Basically Beckham is retired, he is no longer a registered footballer so it would make sense that EA would have to pay him for inclusion.
But regards to Bale, I would imagine players are contractually obliged to be used by FIFA, Premier league etc under license.
Maybe he should retire now then do as Beckham?
