There was plenty to take in during The Game Awards presentation yesterday, but Nintendo managed to squeeze in a new spot for Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury – which was very welcome indeed.
Aiming to remind us that the new, revamped release will be heading to Switch in February, the short trailer gives us another quick look at the game we already know and love, as well as the new and mysterious 'Bowser's Fury' section.
If you missed any of the bigger announcement from The Game Awards – like the new Super Smash Bros. Ultimate fighter reveal – make sure to catch up on all the big stories here.
Before you go, though, let us know if you're feeling hyped for Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury in the comments below. Will you be picking it up on Switch? Have you already played the original on Wii U? Meow.

So, Bowser's Fury is still a mystery!?
There wasn't even anything new shown off in the trailer which is always a disappointment when a new trailer drops to be honest. I really hope for confirmation on new playable characters in this game. Yoshi in particular for me of course, he was already a glaring omission from the original if you ask me, not even making a simple cameo anywhere.
Do you mean ad?
30 seconds of old footage. Great. Surprised that they’re not marketing the online play much at all.
@Munchlax I'll admit that brings me concern that the online may not be all that great. That's usually the case when Nintendo doesn't advertise that part of a game much in my experience.
I kind of wonder why they didn't get this out for the holiday. I know there's a pandemic, but it's essentially a port and they could have got it done if they wanted.
Weak trailer. If it was an announcement, fine, but the announcement trailer from September did everything this one does. Suppose it's a reminder that Nintendo have something coming out soon. Getting it, but not sure if I feel the need to get it on release.
This wasn't a trailer, it was a thirty second video that comprised of footage from the first trailer, and only that.
Have it on the Wii U, but i can recommend it to everyone.
It is a really great Game
30 seconds of footage from an old trailer of a 6 year old game
This is one of the most offensive and lazy things Nintendo has ever done, like they've actually outdone their own hideous incompetence
I wish I hadn't played the first game to death already so I could be excited about this. Same goes for Pikmin 3, Mario Kart 8, Tropical Freeze... I like my Switch but boy do I miss NEW games.
@SpaceboyScreams Honestly the Switch is ONLY good if you've never owned another console in your life
So still no word on what Bowser's Fury is all about?
Only thing new in this trailer is MEOW text
@LilMuku
You seriously sound like a hater and it's ironic your talking about laziness, but your PFP is basically a character from a game that it's fans deemed "lazy".
They did similar ad spots for Age of Calamity, and Smash Ultimate's Fighters Pass Vol. 2 during The Game Awards 2020 show.
It's honestly just there to remind that these things are out or upcoming, not to give new info.
We want more info though, we don't know much about the Bowser's Fury content at all.
With Mario 3D All Stars still lingering in my backlog, I will be getting this but not until 2022 at the earliest.
@Peach64 didn't want it stealing Zelda's thunder, because we all know a Mario game would outshine a Zelda spinoff easily.
This is why i stopped using this site. The comment sections became a lot of complaining and whining and its just tired and sad. There's little to no actual conversation or information exchange happening its just an echo chamber of people shouting out biased unresearched complaints without any actual back and forth dialogue happening.
Can’t wait to buy this again for full price. Got this in 2013 limited edition with the furry cat mario cover case
@Tsuchinoko
That, and there's not information to really exchange in this instance.
This is a nothing-article about an ad that played during a rewards show, that doesn't impart any new information.
It's only there to drive some clicks because it's about an anticipated upcoming release.
Huh, I thought there was something to see here.
@JuiceMan_V I do indeed intensely dislike laziness
I also intensely dislike most of SwSh, but because I have a working brain I am able to like aspects of it, including Pokemon and character designs
@RupeeClock @Tsuchinoko Not just a "nothing-article," I'd say it's actually misleading. Where's the "quick look" at the "new and mysterious 'Bowser's Fury' section?" Maybe two seconds of Mario sitting in front of a gate, which reveals nothing and is footage we've seen before, anyway.
If NintendoLife shares your desire for conversation, then they should stop treating every advertisement as if it's a news event.
I'll definitely be picking this up, I've been looking forward to it, since it was first announced. Honestly, as someone who didn't own a Wii U, I love that I get a chance to play them, now on the Switch. Having said that though, I understand why people wouldn't want another port.
Def. Getting this one, havent played this yet, so for me it feels as new.
@John_Deacon
Eeyup. Super Mario 3D World is indeed an underappreciated, underestimated and misunderstood masterpiece, but at least some info on Bowser's Fury would be more than welcome. There's plenty of good examples to follow outside Nintendo; Bugsnax's "marketing campaign" is not one of them.
I hope Daisy will be playable.
@PoopScoop. Lol then why is this site treating this ad as news worthy? Esp when they didn't cover the other ads.
Lol why show this trailer at the game awards and not show the only thing people curious about lol
I thought I watched the whole award show. When did they show that? Although, its just 3d world.
......so brief footage of a 7 year old game? Why not give a tiny glimpse of the new content? Nintendo, why should I buy this again? You've told me nothing and shown me nothing about the new content!
I really do wonder why they're being so secretive about it.
@AlexSora89 I have wanted to play this title since I first saw the gameplay, but I am told it is far too easy for anyone who has played any Mario game prior. Do you agree?
@Tsuchinoko Still better than the cesspool that is the IGN comment section.
@Tsuchinoko Believe it or not there used to be some great dialogue going on in here, there still is to an extent, it's a shame you have to wade through the bedwetters to get to it. Ho hum.
@NESlover85 feels like we've inherited a few on this site recently...
@WiltonRoots You're right. I have seen a few discussions get pretty nasty on this site.
Wow a trailer with absolutely nothing new. That is brilliant...
@NESlover85 Yep, I've seen people post who've been here a week or two and going straight to the jugular on people who have been civil on here for years. Generally they come and go, but many overstay their visit due to mods being soft at times or sometimes the mods being too busy complaining themselves...
I only care about sephiroth
One of my favorite games of all time, this will be a day 1 buy for me.
This is such a great time to be a fan of 3D Mario games. I'll happily double dip to be able to play this fantastic game anywhere.
[Insert Krusty the Clown "What the hell was that?!" meme]
@LilMuku kinda agree...if u have been a console gamer for the last 20 years, there sure is a lot of recycled content...
@Lony85 as a WiiU owner, I don’t mind the ports....I just wish they were also releasing new content. It seems like they are passing off these ports as new content. For most Switch owners, I get that it is. But what about those of us who supported the system before? Most of the ports are not worth repurchase. I hope that Bowser’s fury is worth while.
@Tsuchinoko then leave
I truly LOVE Mario 3D World....I owned it (and still do) for my beloved WiiU but also preordered day 1 for Switch too (along with the adorable amiibo!!!) Its a fantastic game, VERY nearly as good as Mario Odyssey in my opinion
Played it before on the Wii-U. Depends if Bowser's Fury has enough content to make it worth getting.
I've played the heck out of this game but it's also my favorite 3D Mario game because of its replayability. Something I felt like Odyssey just didn't have. So yeah they got me, I'm going to buy it again.
Isn't about time they told us what Bowser's Fury is about? The game comes out in 2 months, how are they going to get people to buy this game if one of its key features is a complete mystery?
Mario 3D World is a great game but I'm not buying it again just for the extra content, I'm more than happy with the Wii U version
I'm happy as a Wii u owner that switch players get to experience the games I loved on the Wii u. That said I'm more frustrated how it doesn't seem that there are any sequels planned or they are taking too long to make. Where's DKTF2, NSMBUD2, Mario Kart 9 and 3Dworld 2? The only sequels we got on switch was a mediocre but better paper mario and a worse yoshi game.
It's literally just recycled footage, I do intend to get the game though, never got to play the original and I love 3D platformers. I maxed out 3D Land, I imagine I very well may do the same with this one.
I wish Bowsers Fury could be bought seperately because I just played the original again last year.
Love this game!! But im sorry, im done double dipping for Nintendo.... it feels like a slap in the face for the few of us that actuallt bought a wiiu every time they re-release wiiU games. Its getting old. Sucks to miss out on the new content, but im hopeing my brother or one of my friends pick this up so i can atleast play through it again.
@Peach64 probs because they have like nothing for next year agian
@sixrings We got splatoon 2.
@Bizaster Age of calamity came out already, what do you think?
@Sszx09 Same here - I absolutely loved playing this on the Wii U and cannot wait to play it again - I am sure there are many things I’ve forgotten
No point complaining. Nintendo know they don't need to put effort in anymore as the legion of Nintendo knights will buy multiple copies and sku's to support them and the casual gamers are back in force.
@John_Deacon I fear the lack of BF highlighting indicates it's probably a small side game, at best. Having logged 200+ hours on the Wii U, I don't imagine there'll be enough to draw me back.
Now, people are foolishly assuming that this trailer showed absolutely nothing new.
This is false. Those with keen ears should've heard that new funky beat they played, which secretly confirms that Funky Kong will be a playable character, keeping in tradition with another Wii U-Switch port, Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze.
So nothing new than if Ninty don't talk about this in Jan or early feb than consider Bowser's fury to be just a hub world.
nothing new = not worth showing
Well then, this should round off the essential Wii-U ports, unless I'm missing something. My hope is that I'll get this and be able to completely bury any hidden wish to add a Wii-U to my consoles collection. Now, about Virtual Boy Wario Land...
New maps Im in this now..
I dearly hope this one isn't a limited release like the 3D All-Stars one. It'd be a total shame if it is, because it would only be a month on sale, which is sad. Why are you crushing Mario's anniversary like that, Nintendo?
Uhhhhh worst trailer I’ve ever seen. But even the Wii U version of the commercial is better. Nice ad, Nintendo.
