@NEStalgia Remasters often provide much needed cash flow between big releases so I wouldn't say they are out of ideas and also form part of the marketing for the series.
Nintendo on the other hand are simply lazy porting. Nintendo fans happily voted with their feet for hastily, slapped together emulations of SM64, Sunshine and Galaxy.
@Link-Hero how is it disapointing? The fact we have a much more polished, feature complete rom of Dinosaur Planet means a more complete and less buggy game to play. Star fox looks great in it, much better than fhe generic fox lead character.
@chipia Alot was cut out in transition to GCN to release it before Nintendo finished the sale of Rare. Krystal relegated to a literal crystal in adventures including the general scales boss fight which never happens.
I never knew Fox actually made the N64 build, I thought Fox NcCloud came about on the move to GCN.
@GamerDad66 I have indeed, it looks good on a 20" 4:3 LCD monitor if you are lucky to own one. Go bigger and wider - the Wii turns into a ***** show with everything unfortunately regardless of cables. Also the GCN digital out is vastly superior to the Wiis last minute component cables!! People forget Nintendo was going to leave Wii as a composite/ rgb scart system until the last hour when fan fury built so much they gave in and started manufacturing component. It isn't even digital, it's analogue and has a number of weaknesses due to Nintendo cutting back on the output boards just as they did on N64. Anything for a penny.
I play my GCN games through Wii U with mClassic and it looks sublime.
@beazlen1 I find Resident Evil 4 GCN version looks great via Nintendon't with forced 16:9 widescreen. The Wii edition looks very poor but has the best gameplay of all versions - but there is a reason.
I don't know the exact resolution but Resident Evil 4, but a guess due to the black bars likely runs at an internal 640x240 resolution. The Wii Edition is the same resolution as GCN however Capcom unfortunately saw fit to crop and stretch the Wii edition. With the Wii's anamorphic widescreen it degrades the original image even more so, so the Wii edition will always have a dirty image quality as dithering and everything is simply blown up to a massive scale.
@MarioBrickLayer you just have to have the PAL GCN with digital out, it was removed in later models as Nintendo had long since decided PAL gamers don't appreciate a quality video output.
@citizenerased The generic lead/adapter will have rubbish picture quality and a little lag. But if all you want is a picture and don't care about image quality go for the generic option buddy. It's like moving from composite to RGB in the old days.
@beazlen1 I hear ya. I use an mClassic with my Wii U and boy, do all my old GCN games installed on Wii U look spectacular on a 4K 42" I have in my kitchen, as you say close to hd quality.
@Zenszulu I had my N64 Ultra HDMI modified a few years back before deciding to start sell off my collection at Christmas. I used a 20" 4:3 1600x1200p Dell Ultrasharp and the results where spectacular, I used deblur and auto ips patches and at 20" games such as DKR to Doom 64 looked emulation quality, really phenomenal, and games such as the enhanced Goldeneye deluxe (with an awesome AA toggle added to the watch menu) also looked great.
Granted the results weren't so hot on my 60" 1080p Plasma but only so large a size can one stretch a 240p image out.
@Dash120z so true. Only Nintendo gamers could argue they prefer compression as seen in the comments here. If Goldeneye was on CD, don't chat, Doak stated GoldenEye was weighing in at over 40MB before finding out they only had 12MB for release! Textures were halved and sound was compressed even further.
@Grumblevolcano I think you need a history lesson. All Rare's talent left by the time Perfect Dark arrived on N64, actually one of the reasons why PD is so choppy is because the new team in did not have full grips of the engine, The OG teams vision was to hit a rock solid 30fps.
Nintendo knew what they were doing selling Rare and why would Nintendo's sloppy non 16:9 supporting VC be any better? Atleast MS would stump up the cash if MGM weren't so difficult too.
@Donnerkebab you switched the console off before swapping buddy. The N64 the RAM didn't clear for 10seconds after switching off, by the time Banjo Kazooie was releasing in 1998 in following production runs it was reduced to 4 seconds and lower after that.
@yuwarite A Pro model wouldn't be about exclusives, it is about enhancements just as a PS4 PRO and X offered.
The amount of Switch games with unlocked framerates and those struggling to hit 30 or 60 with DRS would benefit drastically alone without even having to touch the code.
I don't understand why Nintendolife gamers complain so much. Just like Switch Lite everyone on here decried splitting the fanbase and blasphemy, spitting fire like a demonic hoard with zero intellect. There will be no split. A console family that offers variety for everyone cannot split the fanbase. Period.
A Switch Pro is about expanding the market and enticing gamers on the fence who wouldn't make the jump due to its weak hardware to finally do so. And at the same time likely alot of Switch gamers would actually take the jump as many Switches are starting to fail. This is all about expanding the market, a company with 70 million sales will still want to find ways to keep pushing and monetising the brand, something here Nintendolife posters do not understand.
@Nerdling aw, Nintendo better leave it alone because it upset you 😭😭😭Lol.
Well played through it recently on real hardware and have to say I love it. The dungeons, story, everything just hits the spot for me, its right up at the top.
If they remastered the 3DS version I would l love to see the 64DD content they had planned and developed re implemented to flesh out the game world more and add a free moving camera like MM3D.
@TheRedComet at the time of release Shadows was a difficult game to run on PC. It took good year before a card was running it properly. You must've had a super expensive PC.
The New3DS was released 2 years too late, 3rd parties already lost interest and Nintendo needed an exclusive to tout its upgrade and Nintendo didn't have the development environment right for it.
A Switch Pro would offer enhancements like the Xbox One X, maybe not as big a jump in power as that system but a good boost none the less.
@Caryslan I remember you saying whats the point in a Switch Lite also lol.
The X and Pro offered significant improvements across the board with no compatibility issues. Xbox One X provided 4x the resolution with framerate enhancements, in many cases higher resolution textures, 16xAF, faster loading, incredible back compat everything - heck even Rare Replay recieved a 4K update and the N64 games look and play spectacularly with better controls than Nintendo's VC attempts... A stunning console refresh.
A Switch Pro would offer similar QoL improvements, not the same resolution boost, but framerate, loading, resolution enhancements will always be welcome.
Also New3DS was a test for Nintendo and more than a refresh, it was a significant jump too late in the 3DS cycle, it was what the 3DS should have been. Had Nintendo released New3DS 1-2 years earlier sales would have rocketed.
@Quix We all know Mario is property of the people, not Nintendo... I'm more interested in finding out why does ur user icon feature Goku surfing on a massive sperm? 🤪😂😂
@Clyde_Radcliffe Sounds like they made it easier cutting any challenge, As for improved graphics, it's minor and one would expect optimisations considering 3D World was Nintendo's first move to HD.
However I easily recommend it as it is the best 3D Mario game on the market.
The N64 is definitely my favourite console design of all time, Charcoal for me.
The controller was a by product of Nintendo forcing the use of the analogue stick, it worked fine tho obviously leaving the d pad all but inaccessible was pure egotism, in all's honesty the biggest mistake was not going CD to save on licensing, not using a dedicated sound chip and of course deciding gamers didn't want a console with RGB out.
@Tourtus this is Nintendo, they probably still use the SGI workstations from the N64 era, they simply don't have a network capable of sharing resources.
There is only one reason Nintendo are doing this - to get their 50 pence minimum per game. This has nothing to do with anything other than Nintendo coining it. They've no interest in improving user interface design.
@johnvboy It's not out of the question - 3DS XL was actually a substantial upgrade, moving from a Dual core 200mhz, 128MB RAM, 6MB VRAM to a Quad core 800mhz, 256MB, 12MB vram set up and that's not including boosts to other areas.
While 3DS XL wasn't exactly used to its full potential we did see up to 2x and sometimes more performance in regards to games with unlocked framerates.
@jamesthemagi I can definitely see Switch Pro using DLSS, makes sense 1080p or 1440p looks fantastic scaled to 4K using it, also I wonder if it will also move to Tegra X2.. Who knows!
@impurekind True, but let Nintendo shut down all they want. Within days there'll be 1000's of sites hosting the content, so all Nintendo are doing is providing free advertising for the game makers, who aren't even impacting their revenue.
Now that Ultra 64 game development is truly kicking off the future is looking better for fans by the day.
@DK-Fan One can't really level typical arrogance at MS without acknowledging that Yamauchi's Nintendo was arguably the most arrogant and blinded company to ever grace the planet.
A little 90s history lesson in Nintendo wouldn't go amiss.
@Shiro28 explain? All the Rare talent left by 2001 bar one or two stragglers....Nintendo flogged a dead horse. Microsoft gave Rare a good 8 years to mess around and Rare showed they couldn't do it, so MS redirected them smartly.
Sea of Thieves is arguably Rare's most original work ever.
@ReikoMortis My Xbox One X has been the go to system for the last three years. Powerful hardware, great price, awesome range of choice, flexibility and runs my whole entertainment center with ease, heck I even use it for streaming. Perhaps with so much choice and variety you only need so many exclusives 🤷♂️🤷♂️
@Gwynbleidd 😂😂😂 my Xbox One X runs my entertainment centre, has a fantastic online service and with Gamepass I have literally hundreds of awesome games to sink my teeth in, if that's bad..... Just Nooooooo! 🤪🤪🤪😂😂😂😂
@AJDarkstar if you don't ask you never know! And as for Apple... they copied also 😂😂🤷♂️.
The fact is all these companies had big headed execs, Nintendo's Yamuchi was one of the worst - laughing and screwing over their closest supporters ie Square, Capcom etc, laughing at screwing over Sony, Philips, Sega...the list of Yamuchi's audacity is much worse than this.
@Maulbert I don't think so. This comment is solely based on Rare, and us Nintendo gamers like to forget the majority of the classic Rare staff exited in 2000/2001. Atleast one year before Microsoft bought them out - Nintendo knew they were flogging a dead horse. Microsoft gave them alot of free reign in the early days, too much perhaps.
As for Forza series, Minecraft etc they have went from strength to strength. Halo has remained solid but the issue was the unpolished visuals of the latest, however it has been pushed back to allow the work to sort it out, I think the issue was showing off the 120hz mode.
@Clyde_Radcliffe I think the price of N64 games have peaked, it really is a console that can be played better via emulation. Nintendo wouldn't release a console they can't make money off today either, so it would be digital only.

@Dr_Lugae i think all Crash Trilogy did was remind people Crash series was never that good.
No point in using this as an excuse to defend Nintendo. Likely many copies were picked up by scalpers.
