Re: Video: Digital Foundry's Technical Analysis Of Crysis Remastered On Switch

Livewired

@Menchi What is your problem? This is an absolutely amazing port and the nips and tucks are in all the right places - The only cut level - Ascension HAD to be cut due to performance - that level is a system destroyer, hell it made my 8800GTX run at 5-20fps back in the day at 720p.

I don't think you get just how much in the way of physics Crysis is running all at once - this is an incredible conversion - if someone said Crysis would be on a handheld looking like that a year ago I would've laughed.

Re: Crytek Reveals Docked And Handheld Resolutions For Crysis Remastered On Switch

Livewired

@NathanTheAsian The poor fella has no understanding of the difference between a corridor and a sandbox game. It is beyond comprehension why anyone would ever think Crysis would look close to PS4/Xbox One? That's just insane.

This looks like an incredible port, Crysis in Switch looks spectacular. In 2007 I played this on an 8800GTX at 720p 20-30fps medium/high/v high settings. Bought again on PS3 - 540/600p 10-20fps.

Looking forward to this version.

Re: Crytek Reveals Docked And Handheld Resolutions For Crysis Remastered On Switch

Livewired

@Tonyo A YT video at 720p is not exactly a good comparison, regardless Switch does look to have upgrades - the PS3 version run at 540p/600p max.

Also the Switch is much closer to PS3/360 than the PS4 so you have to reign those expectations.

Crysis isn't a tiny corridor, no physics shooter like Doom... Crysis is loaded to the hilt with dense environmental destruction, massive sandboxes, explosions and you have a performance hungry setup.

Re: Video: Digital Foundry's Technical Analysis Of Deadly Premonition 2 On Switch

Livewired

@Silly_G that's true, even more annoying is if you were willing to go out of the way you could edit the configuration to have DS games run in at 2x their native resolution - I did this with Mario 64 DS and a DKR injection and they run full speed - shows a little optimisation would've worked wonders.

Also N64 VC - some games such as DK64 supported 16:9, Nintendo still forced 4:3 in their emulator making you use the TV's stretch function if you were lucky to have one for HDMI. Again editing the config allowed fullscreen, and removal of their darkening filter on all VC - and turning up the brightness on GBA VC... Crazy.

Nintendo were just so lazy, a simple edit could've made the world of difference. Pure contempt.

Re: Round Up: The Paper Mario: The Origami King Reviews Are In

Livewired

@nessisonett 100% with you. I've been back playing my GCN back catalogue on my Wii U. Set to 720p, Nintendont configured to forcing 480p with widescreen patches, almost instant load times and with mClassic my GCN games look ALMOST true 720p on my 43" 4K dining room TV and they look stunning.

Re: Talking Point: Would You Like Miiverse To Return On Switch?

Livewired

Ending Miiverse was a massive mistake. It would have been the largest gaming social network today due to Switch success. But I understand it had to go in the massive DOWNGRADE of Nintendo network.

Sitting 3 years on the abandoned Wii U network, no longer looked after and stripped bare is still more feature rich than their pathetic Switch service.

Re: Crysis Remastered Switch eShop File Size Revealed

Livewired

@Casco but that is personal opinion. Have you played Crysis? I've completed it twice, and loved the game from start to finish, it is the thinking man's shooter. Simply exploring, the freedom of trying new tactics, ambushing, using the environment, avoiding camps or take them down? It is like no other. Also enjoyed exploring out of bounds areas. Like theres parts you can jump into speed boats as helicopters chase, diving of waterfalls in the boats - all in real time and entirely optional. It is an experience.

Re: Nintendo Cracks Down On The Super Mario 64 PC Port

Livewired

@victordamazio it isn't illegal but. The game isn't supplied with the installer.

If Nintendo make a HD remaster, with modern visuals people will buy it.

However if they throw SM64 on a cart and charge for it, that will be the fourth time some of their fans will have purchased a game they already own.

Re: Nintendo Cracks Down On The Super Mario 64 PC Port

Livewired

@Alucard83 if you can't play Super Mario 64 its your ability that's horrid, not the game. I highly suspect you have never played the original on real hardware.

The N64 game is designed to work with the N64 controller.

The problem is I've no doubt that if you've played this on VC - Nintendo never adjusted the deadzones for Wii or Wii U controllers. If you have played it via PC no doubt you haven't adjusted the deadzones.

Re: YouTube Doesn't Seem To Work In The Wii U Browser Anymore

Livewired

@Tasuki lol, you walked into that one.

I used YT on the Wii U browser for years, it was excellent, you could throw video onto the TV and use the web like an extended desktop.

Sometimes the gamepad is still downright handier than fumbling with a phone or tablet.

Ah well someday the Wii U will be Riicontected!

Re: DICE's Cancelled '90s Run-And-Gun Ultracore Gets New Lease Of Life On Switch

Livewired

@Pod well they said DICE made the game and Pygnosis was going to publish. So it is DICE own IP.

Back then developers often made games and just went to publishers to see if they would put the money into releasing it, if a publisher was interested and seen long term profitability likely then they would secure the rights to the IP permanently or for a period of time.

Likely it was just an acknowledgement of interest in publishing and Psygnosis cancelled pre contract and nothing more.

Re: Talking Point: The Time Is Right For Microsoft And Nintendo To Get Comfier With One Another

Livewired

@SwitchForce You completely miss the point buddy. You are looking at console sales alone, that's the old teenage boy brag rights indicator started with the fanboy wars in the 90s which should be over by now. Xbox One consoles have hit 50 mill so it isn't doing too bad.

Xbox is not a closed platform, and Microsoft aren't desperate. Xbox GamePass alone covers PC also. Xbox live membership has expanded more rapidly than ever and GamePass has been a massive success on PC also - I know hundreds of people in my town with a GamePass sub now, many of which are PC gamers and they're all raving about it.

Their services are far reaching across multiple avenues, education, business, pharma, manufacture, productivity, cloud, office365 is the standard in education and corporations the world over and Xbox is just one cog in their engine. Nintendo just have Switch and Sony rely on PlayStation to keep themselves afloat.

I've just opened your mind to the bigger picture. You can thank me later bud.

Re: Talking Point: The Time Is Right For Microsoft And Nintendo To Get Comfier With One Another

Livewired

@Brydontk It's hard to fathom with your head in the sand - Xbox One has a vastly superior gaming service, GamePass is brilliant, due to it I've now played games I would never have purchased and enjoyed and pretty much all multi platform games are best on Xbox One X for now.

It also has a wide variety of games, GEARS 5 on X is one of the best couch multiplayer shooters I have ever played - split screen three player co op story is absolutely sublime, action packed, looks and plays stunning and runs a good 10 hours or more. It is an experience not found on any other platform. It also has the best racing games in terms of Forza Motorsport and Forza Horizon 4 so it is the definitive platform for FPS and Racing. While it may not have Sony's long reaching arm of story focused exclusives - it has absolutely every genre ticked and accounted for with AAA titles, no Uncharted? Tomb Raider is every bit as good if not better this generation. The best in class games have nearly all been multi platform. Heck I even picked up the enhanced arcade perfect port of Daytona USA for $1 on Microsoft Store.

From my point of view I can say is all consoles have something to offer.

Re: Rumour Buster: No, Rare Didn't Almost Make Games For The PlayStation During The N64 Era

Livewired

@Severian Gamesmaster back then too used to be fair towards N64, when a PlayStation editor took over the reigns they went awol and marked down all N64 games and marked up PlayStation around 1998. I remember World Cup 98 had better graphics and gameplay on N64, however because it didn't have the player names in the commentary and no FMV. The N64 version was given 64%, the PS1 landed around 88%. The 64% was a jibe.

GamePro I do remember them giving rave reviews to alot of N64 games in 1997.

Re: Platinum Studio Head Doesn't Think Next-Gen Hardware Will Be As "Ground-Breaking" As The Switch

Livewired

@TheFox Imagine a Breath of the Wild unleashed from the restaints imposed by a handheld. Plus it would keep expanding the franchise, heck maybe Nintendo could even go 3rd party, finally no longer hindered by difficult choices they have to make to pinch pennies.

Now Nintendo have thrown all their eggs in one basket, once the Switch runs out of steam, which is inevitable like Wii, Nintendo won't have another pillar to support itself.

Re: Swedish Retailer Updates Its Listing For Metroid Prime Trilogy On Switch, Says It's Arriving Next Month

Livewired

@RareFan Another head in the sand Nintendo fan, with no clue or sense of the bigger picture, business or marketing.

Switch recieved alot of Wii U ports yes, but only because many Switch owners never played them, plus it helps Nintendo turn a profit with no impact to development of their new games.

Look at Breath of The Wild - Wind waker and Twilight Princess were ported and remastered for Wii U during development of BOTW. This provided good Marketing and PR for Zelda and the money made went into BOTW development making it into the vast experience that it was.

Seriously, this gen has provided a great mix with so many new games and fan service. A trilogy like this will introduce Metroid to a wider audience, thus boosting the next installments potential sales. Imagine all these new gamers deciding to pick up Metroid Trilogy and enjoying it so much they are hooked into the series. This is a good thing for Metroids future.

Enhanced ports/remasters are often from a hired in studio, a team that isn't involved with the main game development. It has zero impact and provides a massive financial boost to the teams involved in the main game installments.

Nintendo fans need to consider the benefits of these ports instead of the brain dead blinkers on approach.

Re: Platinum Studio Head Doesn't Think Next-Gen Hardware Will Be As "Ground-Breaking" As The Switch

Livewired

@Zeldafan79 We can look at it in two ways... current generation consoles still offer very impressive power within a budget - Xbox One X in particular sits up there. PC does offer scalability but most cannot afford to plunge 1000 minimum into a top tier gaming rig. No matter the new X and 5 are guaranteed to be top tier hardware.

If you aren't interested in graphics or simpy prefer Nintendo games and portables you buy a Switch.

Its all options.

Re: Feature: Perfect Dark Turns 20 - The Definitive Story Behind The N64 Hit That Outclassed James Bond

Livewired

@Deanster101 you never played it. I was playing it recently on real hardware ultra hdmi modified and it was amazing and highly playable despite the framerate, infact I prepared myself for the worst and I didn't even find it an issue, even playing co op and 4 player multiplayer.

All old consoles feature awful additional lag on lcd as they are rubbish at converting and handling 240p games, however I think if you have atleast access to a line doubler prior to output that should help.
