Re: Video: What's Going On At Playtonic, The Studio Behind Yooka-Laylee?

Livewired

The problem with Yook was the team ignored fans and critics of past Rare platformers, doubled down on and took the worst parts of Donkey Kong 64 and based a game around them to try and prove a point... Then add bland uninteresting levels and poor lead character design and what came out was a polished turd and a massively missed opportunity.

Re: Zelda Boss Wanted Certain Tears Of The Kingdom Areas In BOTW, Prevented By Wii U's Limitations

Livewired

@rjejr I'd say this is a case of mistranslation. The Switch is at best 1.5x the power of Wii U, certainly no more than that.

So typical story goes Nintendo had a final target deadline, the teams first sandbox Zelda engine - they had to be realistic with what they could achieve within a 5 year time limit and yeap a small team was set aside for Wii U who spent the last year of BotW development stripping out the Sheika slate features, whereas the vast majority of the team prioritised optimising the Switch version to make the Switch the 'definitive' edition.

If they wanted to do BotW with all the add in content with Tears of the Kingdom features it would only have released in Q1 2022. So this article is rubbish.

Re: Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom Switch OLED Rumour Resurfaces Online

Livewired

@johnvboy Wrong. The Switch version was in development for over a year and the Switch is only 1.5x a Wii U, and even then the Wii U is superior in some areas.

During the final year a smaller team at Nintendo removed the extensive gamepad features from Wii U and left it on the back burner, unoptimised, until the Switch version was complete so they could claim it was the superior version at launch.

Re: Random: GoldenEye 007 Composer Reckons "Old Team" Would Have Done A Better Job On Emulation

Livewired

@Serpenterror You don't happen to work for Code Mystics by any chance? Lol.

The OG team produced a spectacular remaster for 360 and Nintendo torpedoed it before they had a chance to finish.

Also, the reason for delays also have to factor in how Nintendo's dev kits for N64 were complete trash along with the GDK environment, it is widely known to have been difficult to work with, along with no debugging, meaning programmers had way more work to do tracking down issues. The N64 didn't even release til March 1997 in the UK due to this.

Re: Random: GoldenEye 007 Composer Reckons "Old Team" Would Have Done A Better Job On Emulation

@Hayter Rom hacks aren't new. The fact is Nintendo and Microsofts GE007 rom hacks aren't up to snuff for an icon of the games industry. Particularly disappointing considering the treatment Turok 1,2, Doom 64, Quake et all have received.

It's well known Nintendo torpedoed the 360 remaster produced by the original team over 10 years ago, and now again, as MS wanted to release it.

No one can disagree that both rom hacks have good and bad qualities, no care given by either studio's involved.

Re: Random: GoldenEye 007 Composer Reckons "Old Team" Would Have Done A Better Job On Emulation

Livewired

@quinnyboy58 I got it free also. I agree 4K looks spectacular, along with the dual analogue controls and smoother framerate, however having ploughed literally years into GE since and still play multiplayer occasionally on real hardware so I am disappointed at the number of NEW visual glitches, collision detection errors and AI bugs introduced not in the original game - not to mention lower quality audio. Likely a casual gamer would know no better.

I hope MS get Code Mystics to shore up some loose ends. Still, despite disappointment at 'it'll do the job' approach, the XBSX version will now be my go to for couch multiplayer.

Re: Video: New Switch Hardware Won't Stop Bad Ports

Livewired

The Switch is far less powerful than a OG Xbox One model as it is roughly 1.5x a Wii U (just like GCN to Wii) which means in some ways it's better than a 360 and others its weaker. The Switch is finished, Switch 2 to launch with the next Zelda.

Re: Pilotwings 64's 'Birdman' Stage Is Significantly More Stressful On Switch

Livewired

@Maxz lol... I cannot expect you to comprehend the fact these improvements are mere accident, a side affect of inaccuracy and laziness. On this occasion 60fps is an accidental, welcome improvement due to Pilotwings having an unlocked framerate, but as has been the case for Nintendo online - a sign of their lack of care or respect for fans and paying subscribers. They could have spent 5 minutes fixing the birdman controls but no, they didn't even check. This must be fixed.

It shows an absolute lack of attention to detail on Nintendo's behalf, as has been the case now for years in respect to their classics. Nintendo have no excuse. I will not praise their casual laziness regardless of result.

Re: Talking Point: Given The Voice Artist Controversy, Will You Be Boycotting Bayonetta 3?

Livewired

I will be boycotting the game. Nintendo's evil and maleovant practices, the Yamauchi racketeering from the 80s and 90s are back in fashion.

Sacking staff for querying unions, underpaying, overworking, price fixing, limiting supply to increase demand... All full steam ahead.

Workers everywhere deserve fair and equal treatment and for me Helena is integral to Bayonetta.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (October 8th)

Livewired

I'm playing the enhanced Super Mario 64 and the Ship of Harkinan ports by the modding community on Wii U. I've spent close £200 on Mario 64 and Ocarina of Time since first buying them on N64, including picking them up on VC and then 3DS, so I own my own roms on various Nintendo platforms.

Nintendo's official VC and All Star rereleases are disgusting, overpriced sacrilege. Super Mario 64 port at 60fps, widescreen is bliss - a night and day difference to that awful, rushed, shoddy, laggy, budget made Mario 3D rom compedium Nintendo have the gall to call a celebration collection.

Ocarina of Time with full camera control and the raft of QoL improvements to make it playable today is something Nintendo will never do.

I recommend anyone who has purchased Mario 64 and Ocarina of Time to use the PC Community ports from now on, it is your right to play these games at a quality acceptable for 2022.

Re: Best James Bond Games On Nintendo Systems

Livewired

@SteamEngenius. The only thing that will stand in GoldenEye's brilliance is Nintendo's awful, laggy, online service and piss poor emulation. Still play multiplayer and it's just as fun today as it was yesterday.

Other than that looking forward to challenging myself to open up the time cheats.

Re: Nvidia Employee Comment Confirms Chip Rumoured To Be Used In 'Switch Pro' Is Real

Livewired

@Teddie-bear It really doesn't. Switch is already struggling with providing experiences that go beyond what the Gamecube/PS2 generation could offer, all a pro model does is provide an option for gamers who prefer smoother framerates and higher resolutions. Granted, it won't interest most Nintendo gamers as they don't care, but it could entice the more demanding market who have sat on the fence.

Re: Footage Of Perfect Dark's Cut Feature 'Perfect Head' Emerges Online

Livewired

Why is this article only half researched?

Rareware staff working on Perfect Dark have stated in numerous interviews because of high school shootings in the USA Nintendo asked them to remove it. Of course Nintendo's official line was technical issues to save face and avoid fan backlash.

The code is still in the game and can be reactivated and played using a patched PD rom via Everdrive and using a GB camera on real hardware if you have the equipment.

This is also the reason why you have the opportunity to shoot interfering Miyamoto in the back on Pelagic 2.

Re: New Denuvo 'Switch Emulator Protection' Tech Launches, And Players Are Worried

Livewired

Denuvo are vile corporate bile that prey on the minds of weak games company leaders, like a virus Denuvo software also keylogs and attempt to harvest passwords and user accounts and identities.

If a developer targets 30fps on Switch, they'll be lucky to get it it to hit 15fps due to Denuvo.

When powerful PC hardware feels the hit you know Denuvo software is illegally trawling your system.

Re: Poll: So, Wave Race 64 Or Blue Storm - Which Is Best?

Livewired

The issue with Blue Storm is it's not only Americanised but it forgets its roots. The animation is stiffer than WR64 and the control doesn't feel as good. Also it didn't look that hot on release.

NST ruined both Wave Race and 1080, both inferior sequels. With the power of GameCube a decent team would've had Wave Race BS running at 60fps, easy.
