It was only a couple of weeks ago that we were last treated to a tease of Genshin Impact, but another new trailer has now arrived to give us another quick look at the game's story.
This new video takes a different approach to its predecessor, opting for a gorgeous, animated style throughout. It's called 'The Boy and the Whirlwind', and we have a quick description for you below.
The sitting Anemo Archon, Barbatos, was once a single, shapeless wisp among the thousand winds.
In Old Mondstadt, ruled by the lord of storms, he encountered a young boy...
The game's had quite the journey already – it's been heavily criticised for being perhaps a little too similar to Zelda: Breath of the Wild in some areas, and an angry fan actually smashed up a PS4 during its reveal as a result – but it's shaping up to be an interesting release with a huge cast and a nice variety of locations to explore.
It's set to launch on PS4, Android, iOS and PC later this month, with the Switch version coming at a later date.
Are you thinking of buying this one? Let us know with a comment.

"an angry fan actually smashed up a PS4 during its reveal"
What a weirdo.
I'm not sure how I feel about it. It looks fantastic but I wonder how the micro-transactions are going to play out in this game considering it's free-to-play... for a single-player game.
@TheFullAndy and over a free to play game no less
Was interested until "free to play" was announced, now I expect it to be a steaming pile in a pretty wrapper.
God its free to play.
This game looked really promising. Exploration, combat, world, story, characters, it had it all. A potential meaty experience, but then I learned it was free-to-play, and I can't imagine how it is actually going to be good.
I hope to be wrong, since it's free it is worth a try, but I can't imagine how a Breath-of-the-Wild-experiance could work with ANY amount of microtransactions muddling the experience. I'd rather just buy the game so the monetization doesn't interfere with the gameplay.
It's a shame they created something that looks really beautiful only to completely ruin anything and everything it has going for it by turning it into a free-to-play game. I can understand that it makes sense for the mobile market where that garbage is the norm but if they wanted to release it on gaming systems as well they should have made a paid version with everything integrated in with no microtransations.
I pity the guy who smashed his PS4 just because of this game
This game along with Shenmue 3, Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Remastered, and the Prince of Persia remake all had one thing in common, the more I heard about them the less interesting the games are to me. I just don't understand how devs could wow you with the game at first then slowly torn those wow factors apart.
@Cable to be fair, last i read, this game is also co-op.
I might try it, but there is no way I am “buying” it.
Didn’t realise a game being free-to-play was a bad thing.
Far as I’m concerned it’s no different to an MMORPG. Micro-transactions are optional and nobody’s forcing you to buy them.
@EliteXeos In a single player game though it is likely they are in fact going to be weirdly forced on you to be able to progress. That is what everyone is worried about.
Last time I checked, I won't have to buy it. But I'm getting it for sure. Others can daydream their "BotW clones" to their hearts' content.
@WhoaManWtF I’d say it all depends on how the gacha is handled. From what I’ve seen miHoYo has learnt their lesson from Honkai Impact and made it so that the gacha isn’t requires to enjoy the game.
I'll probably try it out on PS4, although I'm a tad skeptical in spite of the positive reviews I've watched from the beta.
The Closed Beta was lots of fun. So I already pre-registered (PC)
They say the PC version will have cross progression with Android for on the GO play. So no need to wait for the Switch version.
Might be interested in this when it comes to Switch. Microtransaction nonsense in a single player game like this puts me off(just have a full paid version for consoles), but it could still be decent.
Please stop mentioning that PS4 in every article about this game.
My most anticipated game of 2020 for sure. Day 1 on PC.
@Cinaclov lol why not?
Micro transactions are the icing on top. What this game is most likely fishing for is big data. Every micro choice you make will be catalogued, analyzed and leveraged for numerous future applications.
HARD pass on this. FTP, stealing BotW's aesthetic, microtransactions... why would I want to play this again?
I was almost sold until I saw free to play in the comments. Now I wonder how Zelda could be with micro transactions. Probably a gatcha game with 0.01% chance to get the master sword, then you need 125 master swords to awaken it fully, or you can buy it for twice the price of a full game.
The hostility towards this is actually a bit disappointing. The beta was extraordinarily fun, and while some of the beats are similar to BotW ... It really stands on its own. Unless they do some horrible redistributing of content between beta and launch even the F2P story heroes are fun and unique to handle.
I'll need a review I think
