Mario Kart Tour and Home Circuit might be Nintendo's focus these days (We still love you too, Deluxe), but there remains a dedicated player base out there for Mario Kart Wii. Despite being almost 13 years old, it was still pulling in respectable sales numbers as recently as 2019 and we've seen some incredible mods, too. Now though, one player has pulled off an amazing feat by achieving ultra shortcut on Rainbow Road.
The move was pulled off by Twitch streamer ArthurMKW, giving him a lap time of 22.526 seconds. It's done what many players have unsuccessfully attempted for years, only managing it with a tool-assisted run. We should note that this isn't the only ultra shortcut on this map, as another one involving Lakitu has been previously carried out.

For the unaware, ultra shortcuts aren't the same as using mushrooms across the grass. They're essentially exploits and they can let you skip large segments of a track. They aren't as common as they once were. You could pull these off all over Mario Kart 64 through exploits or clever item use and Mario Kart Wii was the same.
Several others were discovered back in 2019 and after 13 years, you'd think that was it for Mario Kart Wii. Either way, it's still nice to see that the game continues to carry an active community.
Have you attempted this ultra shortcut yourself? Are you still playing Mario Kart Wii? Let us know in the comments.

Nah, never tried it. Looks awesome though.
Looks fun! Loved that kart
I've always hated any and all rainbow tracks. WAY too many chances to fall off the course.
Really cool! To think of how many tries that took before actually pulling this off.
Jesus. That looks almost as insane as the guardian snipe
I just want to say how awesome it is that the French for “Go!” is “Partez!”
Does this qualify as a new time trials world record for that track?
This is great, now can we have a new Mario Kart on the Switch to celebrate???!!!
It ain't got nothin' on Super Circuit's own Rainbow Road, which had a honestly backside-kickin' shortcut.
@AlexSora89 Thank was an awesome short cut and super hard to get right three times. I was a bit disappointed that with this run as he only did it once.
Amazing skills. Attempted tries 99999 and still trying
@dew12333
The shortcut can only be performed once because it requires all three of your mushrooms.
Even so, the time saved from that one super fast lap is so huge that it compensates for the other two laps.
@AlexSora89 that’s quality.
@ThanosReXXX that's why they're the best. Sorts the wheat from the chaff
I wonder if he did it?
Reminds me of the Grumble Volcano super shortcut with the 10 second lap time. Pulled it off in multiplayer quite a few times whenever it came up back in the day. I would've loved to see the players faces when all of a sudden they dropped to second with no one passing them.
Ai titit.
Ai titit
heard about this 3 years ago, I don't remember where I read it from.
All rise for the best Mario Kart game.
I've never raced that track before. Got and tried MK Wii a few years ago, but its hard going backwards in the series. All my MK7 & MK8 three-star-skill didnt help win or progress in MK Wii, and I couldn't get into it.
I remember doing the big jump on MK64's Rainbow Road, so proud, my time was so good too I sent it to Nintendo Magazine to try win something. They didn't publish my time and I got nothing...
@Baker1000 That's one side of the coin. The other side is that it annoys the f*** out of people like me who, between work hours and private/family life, just don't have the time anymore to invest hours upon hours into honing their skills, and who just want to have a quick session or an enjoyable experience, instead of a frustrating one.
Not being able to avoid the blue spike shell in the older games was another massive annoyance, far as I'm concerned.
He did it.
He did it.
He did it.
@TheSmashTheorist that guardian snipe was crazy crazy
@dew12333 a bit disappointed...? If he tries again and misses the whole runs gone. It’s also the first time this has been pulled off like this...but if you think you can do better post a vid, we’re all waiting.
@Snakesglowcaps Not to mention it's impossible as it requires all 3 mushrooms to do it once.
There is a road, it's called a Rainbow Road.
It is a road that you go...
I always felt ridiculously inferior back in the day when people used to send their times into magazines on Mario Kart 64 using exploits like this on 3 laps on a row when only ever managed to pull most off once or twice at most unless they were really easy. As fun as it is to see them in action a lot of them don't make you good at racing in any way just just good at running in to parts of the track at specific angles.
I always questioned at the time why magazines didn't print both times using these glitches shortcuts and times where no shortcuts were taken. Then again I seemed to be in the minority wanting that.
@Snakesglowcaps only if I can do it with a blind fold and with my feet instead of my hands.
@dew12333 you’d better dammit.
Sounds like he did it.
