Re: 505 Publishing New Game From Metroid And Castlevania Developer MercurySteam

LeonBelmontX

@themightyant Definitely agree with this!
Mirror of Fate could have been a solid "Iga-style" entry in the new LoS timeline, and it felt so shallow. Not to mention the story was told out of sequence for the sole purpose of ending on an obvious plot development.

Lords of Shadow 2 had the most amazing start and a concept that should have been incredible for Vania fans. An actual game where you played as Dracula, in the style of Lords of Shadow 1?? But instead, it was really lacking and a total mess.

Re: Feature: We Worked Out The Best Zelda Game Once And For All, Using Maths

LeonBelmontX

It honestly amazes me that BotW takes the top spot. I hear far more polarising opinions on the game than LttP or OoT.

I just finished my second playthrough of BotW - I didn't enjoy it first time around but I hoped I might feel different second time around (I didn't).

I'm not surprised that BotW has its fans, but I'm honestly amazed that more people weren't disappointed by many of the Zelda concepts that it abandoned for a new format, and therefore land it more around the #4 mark.

Re: Poll: Hyrule Warriors: Age Of Calamity Is Out Today, Are You Getting It?

LeonBelmontX

I'm in the less common group of people who didn't like Breath of the Wild, but absolutely loved Hyrule Warriors and the Zelda series. I've been so torn on this game because it combines a game I love and one I don't.

I played the demo, and it was decent but didn't grip me like Hyrule Warriors, as the BotW changes made it feel less colourful, and uses characters and featurea that appeal to me less (Runes vs traditional Zelda items).

I feel like there's probably a solid game there that I may very well enjoy, but it didn't give me the excited buzz I got when I got my hands on Hyrule Warriors. So it's not a day one buy, but I do plan to pick it up and give it a good shot when I can.

Re: Paper Mario Producer Says He's "Not Opposed To The Fans' Opinions"

LeonBelmontX

@shazbot I totally agree. If anything, I'd be more excited to see series such as Metroid or Zelda attempting a turn based combat system.

I'd love to see a Zelda game where Link and Zelda team up in combat in turn based battles. You could easily utilize the idea of sages for a party, with a Goron, a Zora, a Rito etc. Essentially the BotW Champions, but all playable.

Zelda and it's dungeons would translate to a JRPG so easily. Metroid would be cool too, but I struggle to imagine what the party would look like.

Re: Poll: What's The Best Final Fantasy Game On Nintendo Consoles?

LeonBelmontX

IX and X get my votes.

IX was the peak of classic Final Fantasy for me - a world map, graphics that have aged pretty well, representations of classes like Black Mage, Warrior, Thief etc, and brilliant fantasy story with loveable characters.

X on the other hand was the most modern game in the series I truly loved before it started going more action based among other things. The combat is my favourite in the series, the additional voice acting brought characters to life and I love the story. Blitzball is also the most fleshed out minigame in FF, to the point it's almost a game in itself.

Re: Fallen City Brawl Is A New Pixel-Art Beat 'Em Up Hoping To Launch On Switch

LeonBelmontX

@gojiguy Those are some of my favourite games, DMC in particular.

I dunno, just feels like I'd like to see something that did something exciting with the genre. Open world was only one suggestion. Maybe more fighting game mechanics with parries, super meters or tag specials. Just feels like another Streets of Rage clone with nothing interesting to make it unique.

Re: Fallen City Brawl Is A New Pixel-Art Beat 'Em Up Hoping To Launch On Switch

LeonBelmontX

@gojiguy
For sure, I'm definitely not someone who wants everything to be open world. I tend to prefer stuff with levels. I just don't really feel these games are a format with any space to grow beyond being the same brawler that all of them seem to be.

One of my favourites was Scott Pilgrim, because it offered modern ideas like character upgrades and secret boss fights, with more of a world map system.

Golden Axe were my favourites as a kid, but I don't think I'd get excited about a new Golden Axe without something new to make it feel up to date in some way.

Re: Fallen City Brawl Is A New Pixel-Art Beat 'Em Up Hoping To Launch On Switch

LeonBelmontX

I really don't see the appeal of games like this now. They had their place back on the Mega Drive, and I understand that Streets of Rage 4 was exciting as a new entry to an existing franchise, but... it just feels like such a stale format now.

I'd rather see the same ideas brought into a more modern landscape. Crisp visuals, maybe an open world with an interconnected city.

I just don't feel like these releases add anything fresh which you couldn't get from simply replaying the originals.

Re: Poll: What Did You Think Of The Nintendo Direct Mini?

LeonBelmontX

@Varkster Agreed! This was actually a highlight for me. I really loved the original game, and there's not really another game like it. After loving King's Bounty as a kid, I enjoyed Fire Emblem but it lacked the freedom of exploring a world.

The original KB was like a hybrid between an early Fire Emblem prototype and classic Final Fantasy world maps, but with a focus on collecting treasure and recruiting armies. It was almost like a virtual board game with how the map got remixed for each play. I've never played another series that had the same combination of gameplay concepts.

Genuinely excited. So happy it's still got fantasy creatures in it, too!

Re: Random: Fans Ask Nintendo To Revive Super Mario RPG's Geno And Mallow In Online Petition

LeonBelmontX

I really can't understand the fuss over Geno. Played Super Mario RPG for the first time last year expecting big things from him, and he was just such an 'eh' character. He really didn't have that much of a backstory, and the game didn't exactly flesh him out much, either.

Granted I don't have the rose tinted glasses, but Geno getting parts as a Mii costume was plenty of representation for such an obscure character.

The likes of Persona 5's Joker appearing as DLC and representing an entire series with no prior representation in Smash is a much smarter move.

Re: Random: New York Times Crossword Puzzle Forgets That The Wii U Was A Thing

LeonBelmontX

I loved my Wii U, though it was an odd console.

While many of the good games are getting ported to Switch (which I'm grateful for in the long run), it still has enough worthwhile games for me to keep it hooked up at the moment:
Super Mario 3D World
Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE (My favourite JRPG on a Nintendo console)
Splatoon 1
Project Zero: Maiden of Black Water
Wind Waker / Twilight Princess HD (WW being one of the best HD remasters I've played)

And it also has the most extensive Virtual Console to date, so is currently my go to console for playing the majority of the NES, SNES, N64 and GBA games. Love playing the likes of Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow and Metroid Fusion on my TV.

Would love if the Switch could pick up all of these games as I generally prefer the system, but until then my Wii U isn't going anywhere fast. Tokyo Mirage Sessions and Wind Waker especially.

Re: The Legend of Zelda LEGO Set Misses Out On Official Approval

LeonBelmontX

I can't say this actual scene is iconic enough to make me want it - aside from the awesome Link minifigure (I also love the artwork for LEGO Link on the box)

Would like to see a set containing a few more Zelda elements - maybe even just a scene inside the Deku Tree with a Skulltula and a treasure chest, or of course just have Link vs Ganon with Ganon being a multi-piece construction based on the final fight of Ocarina. Or what could be more iconic than the Master Sword chamber in the Temple of Time?

I've really loved the idea of a LEGO Zelda video game for a while now. Maybe now Nintendo are more open to allowing third party games using their IPs (like Hyrule Warriors), it could be more of a possibility. I can see the two working well together, with Zelda's emphasis on puzzles.

Re: Motion Twin Outlines Upcoming Dead Cells Content, Wants To Know What Players Would Like

LeonBelmontX

I put this game down after beating the Concierge. It was kind of fun, but having to beat that boss on every run got tiresome for me.

I may pick the game up again when this update comes out, maybe being able to choose my starting gear might make things a little less frustrating.

I got to a point with the game where I unlocked most of the upgrades that seemed worthwhile (potions, random starting weapon etc), but I felt like I hit a wall where I wasn't really working toward anything potentially helpful with each run any more. There were some upgrades I could still throw cells into, but they needed so many that I felt like maybe I was missing something in terms of how I was ever supposed to achieve them without a hundred more runs. By that point I was a little tired of running through the same 3-4 areas from the beginning.

I probably just suck at the genre, but the novelty wore off before I was able to beat the game.

I really loved the visuals and feel of the game, but I just don't think the genre is one to my taste. If they made a full on Metroidvania game using Dead Cell's style, I'd be very interested.

Re: Sega Mega Drive Classics Is Coming To Switch This Winter With Exclusive Features

LeonBelmontX

I'm glad this is coming to Switch, but the lack of Sonic 3 and Sonic and Knuckles makes this a pass for me. It's a real shame, as I love the idea of having a complete collection of Sega games for Switch.

Interested to see what else is in store for SEGA Ages, I'd just like all of the Sonics, Gunstar Heroes and (though it's unlikely) King's Bounty which was one of my all-time favourites.

Re: Guide: The Best Metroid Games - Every Metroid Game Ranked

LeonBelmontX

Metroid Fusion should definitely be higher, and I don't think Prime is the best Metroid game by any stretch - don't get me wrong, it's an absolute benchmark and they did a wonderful job of moving things to 3D, but for me Super Metroid should be first.

I actually didn't play Super Metroid until after Fusion (I was a Sega child), so Fusion was an incredible experience for me - and if we are judging each game by today's standards, it can't really be judged too much for its similarities to Super Metroid.

I played Super Metroid only maybe a decade ago for the first time, and the fact it was so similar to Fusion made me love it even more. Both games blew me away first time around.

I enjoyed Other M, but it just needed a little more exploration. The way you unlocked abilities was stupid, but it wasn't enough to ruin the game for me. It was generally a nice fresh take on a console Metroid that had some flaws.

Re: Feature: What's Left To Be Announced For Smash Bros. Ultimate On Switch?

LeonBelmontX

All I want now is Travis Touchdown. I know he's a bit of a cult rep, but I think there are just enough reasons.

No More Heroes is primarily a Nintendo series, and definitely no more obscure than Bayonetta was when she was released - and Travis Strikes Again is on the way.

Suda51 has told Samurai he wants him in, so the idea's definitely been pitched. There's a decent (maybe not major) demand for him, and Nintendo are getting more third parties on board.

If not, I can at least see him being an assist, like Shovel Knight.

My guess at the remaining reveals are:

Geno (fan service like Ridley and Kong K Rool, and Square-Enix are already involved)
Isabelle as an Echo for Villager
Travis (less likely but hey this is my list)
And maybe Waluigi. I know he's an assist but I think Nintendo know of the demand and I can honestly see them doing a surprise reveal.

Re: Review: Hello Neighbor (Switch)

LeonBelmontX

Such a shame this has done so badly. I loved the concept, but I've heard nothing but bad things. Could have been something akin to a colourful Resident Evil 7 if it had been done right.

Re: Rumour: Google Is Creating A Gaming Platform To Rival Switch, PS4 and Xbox

LeonBelmontX

Not interested if this is an online based console. I don't like subscriptions and streaming isn't for me.

I'm not against seeing new consoles on the market, but if their plan is to force players to buy their console by simply buying out studios to make their series exclusive... That would suck. Give me a Switch competitor with new AAA IPs and maybe I'd be interested.

Re: Ubisoft CEO Believes The Next Generation Of Consoles Will Be The Last

LeonBelmontX

Not a chance. I don't think people are willing to hand over all their games to online subscriptions and essentially just rent them all long-term.

I still buy physical whenever I can, digital occasionally. But I don't think I'd ever be comfortable with streaming everything.

If anything, I just hope we see more consoles like the Switch. Loving the mix of on and off TV play. That's my kind of future.

Re: Video: Burn Some Rubber With Some New Team Sonic Racing Footage

LeonBelmontX

Sigh... Looks like such a step down from Transformed.

It looks OK, but just lacks anything particularly exciting. But it just looks like a slower version of the last game, with half of the best features stripped away. Honestly, the transformations could have easily been no more than a gimmick, but were actually incredibly fun. And the roster just doesn't compare.

Transformed was is my all-time favourite karting game. Would have been way more excited for a Switch port of that.

I really want to love this. But it just looks like they went ridiculously safe with design ideas to the point that nothing stands out.

Re: Pokémon Let's Go Pikachu And Eevee Creators Share All The Details You Need In New Q & A

LeonBelmontX

Really not keen on the idea of dropping wild Pokemon battles.

I was kind of excited by the idea of a Pokemon Yellow remake, but I can't see the fun in catching Pokemon by simply throwing Pokeballs like the mobile game (which I'm not a fan of).

It's a shame, each time a Pokemon game comes to console, there always has to be some annoying gimmick. This is so close to being a traditional Pokemon game for a home console. I'm still curious, but it just seems so unnecessary. They could still use the motion control aspect for catching, even if they kept battling in.

Really hope the proper Pokemon game coming to Switch next year doesn't make the same change. Half of the challenge in catching Pokemon is battling them to weaken them.

Re: Video: Mega Man 11 Will Blast Onto Nintendo Switch On 2nd October (And You Can Pre-Order It Right Now)

LeonBelmontX

I can't wait for this! Just got back into Mega Man with the Legacy Collections, and this looks very much in the vein of Mega Man 7, which is one of my favourites.

Just need a switch port of Mega Man & Bass, now... such a shame that the game is stuck in a weird limbo.

Really hoping Bass and Protoman will be in Mega Man 11. Even better if they are playable like in Mega Man 10.

Re: Review: Mega Man Battle Network 3 Blue & White (Wii U eShop / GBA)

LeonBelmontX

I keep looking at buying the Wii U versions of Battle Network 3-6, but I keep thinking that the games are kind of broken since you can no longer complete your chip library without the link features of the game? I know the core story is still fine, but I like the idea of being able to get 100%. It would be like having Pokemon Ruby on Wii U, and not being able to complete your Pokedex.

I assume they didn't update the games to somehow get around this?

Re: Review: Mega Man Legacy Collection 2 (Switch eShop)

LeonBelmontX

I'm so torn on buying this. Mega Man 7 is my favourite title in the series (and the first Mega Man game I ever played), but I'm really not that bothered to own 9 or 10. I played both 9-10 on PS3, but that NES style doesn't do it for me at all (despite having made the effort to beat 1-6 in more recent years).

Wouldn't mind 8, though - the only way I have to play 8 at the moment is a chipped PS2 with a US collection.

Really disappointed about the lack of Mega Man and Bass. Considering how much I loved 7 as a kid, I only really got to experience MM&B through emulation, and I loved it as a sequel. It's a shame the game has had such a rough time in terms of translations and ports. It wasn't perfect, but it was a direct continuation of 7, and I loved playing as Bass.

So at the moment, it's more a matter of, do I think Mega Man 7 is worth £12? I kind of want to show my support for the series, but I'm really only interested in a quarter of the package.

Re: The Virtual Console Isn't Coming To Switch, Nintendo Confirms

LeonBelmontX

I'm one of the disappointed ones. The Wii U had the best Virtual Console so far, and if the Switch had one to match it, it would be a Nintendo game powerhouse. All those libraries on one console with the ability to be played on-TV or handheld. It would have been better than the Wii U and 3DS VC's combined.

I'm sure that there will be plenty of retro games for Switch - such as the Mega Man Legacy collections and such, which should cover a lot of the games I want to have for Switch.

Mostly, I was really hoping to see the GBA VC library. Playing the likes of Metroid Fusion and Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow on the Switch sounded like a dream. I very much doubt Konami will release the GBA Castlevanias without a VC, as they do very little for their older fanbase.

I'm not a fan of subscription based game passes. I'd rather cherry pick the few games I want to buy and keep than have access to a load I'll never touch. I'm just hoping the likes of The Legend of Zelda they are releasing will have some method of individual purchase for those who prefer to buy their games.

I can see why the VC wouldn't last forever. I just feel like it peaked a generation too early. Portability would have been such a great extra feature.

Just hoping I'm wrong, and that Nintendo will deliver just as much retro goodness under different banners.

Re: Miitomo, Nintendo's Original Mobile App, Passes Away

LeonBelmontX

Really never been a fan of Miis, I'd be glad to be rid of them. They felt kind of at home on the Wii, especially with Wii Sports and such, but they've aged horribly.

I don't mind the idea of a custom avatar, but would much prefer something in the vein of a proper Mario or Splatoon character level of design. I never minded the Xbox Live Avatars, and quite enjoyed all the different costumes and props based on various games.

But generally, I don't see the need for these kind of console-based avatars. I'm much happier sticking to usernames and in-game avatars when it comes to their own lobbies and universes (i.e. Splatoon).
