I really want RPGs for Switch, but this just looks so... bland. They always feel like they are going for traditional RPG tropes but forget to create something with its own character. There’s no sense of interesting world building, or surprising mixes of ideas.
Really can’t wait for Shin Megami Tensei, but that’s going to be ages. The only turn based RPGs I’ve enjoyed recently are Persona 4 & 5 and Tokyo Mirage Sessions, which were all SMT spinoffs.
Hoping TMS gets a Switch port, or even Golden Sun released on Virtual Console.
@Ralizah This! I mean, obviously most people who buy a Switch are going to use the handheld mode to some extent, it's a big sell of the console. 50% hybrid is more than 30% handheld. Results actually say that 70% of people use it in docked mode some or all of the time.
I find handheld mode convenient, but always opt for TV mode if it's available. I'd guess if anything it's way more down to people's lifestyle - it's kinda expected given how hectic people's schedules are and the rise of mobile gaming etc.
I'm happy for the Switch to act as both, and it's great that it does. But playing something like Zelda or Mario feels like they are at their best on the big screen. I tend to focus more on side-quests or grinding on handheld sessions.
Could be interested if it's in the vein of SimCity / Caesar with some decent economic systems, population happiness elements and stuff. But if it's more like those app-games with a lot of tapping and no skill, I'll pass.
As a big fan of MGS, I was disappointed with the trailer. The style in terms of colour and environment looked pretty good, but not keen on the character models - MGS' models looked pretty amazing for a PS1 game. Everything else looked good though, visuals wise.
But mostly, I'm just disappointed that a game called Never Stop Sneakin seems to be an action shooter rather than a stealth game.
@BlueKnight07 This is the thing. I don't mind if I have to wait, I just want confirmation. I'll be gutted if I'm waiting forever on something that never happens.
As someone who loves being able to play both handheld and on TV, I don't really see it as a "tax" to pay for Switch games.
More than once, I've bought games for PS3/PS4 and also a counterpart copy of the same game for Vita (Final Fantasy X HD, Project DIVA f/F) or have struggled to pick between which version to buy (World of Final Fantasy, Metal Gear Solid HD Collection).
The Switch eliminates this issue altogether - rather than buying a portable and/or home console version of a game, every Switch game is both. So obviously this works out cheaper for someone who likes to play both ways - especially considering I don't pay PS+ subscriptions for handy things like cloud saves to share between them. While Sony have attempted a similar idea between the PS and the Vita, it's such a messy affair and I usually have to pick one or the other. A lot of the times I regret my decision as to which version I buy as my habits tend to change regularly.
Not to mention PS Vita exclusives that I would love to play on my TV but can't - Persona 4 Golden, I'm looking at you.
I know PS4/X1 can push the graphics further on their dedicated on-TV play modes, but I still feel like I get more flexibility for my money with a Switch game. I'm definitely part of the market the Switch was aimed at, and I'm pretty happy with it so far.
I really didn't love Breath of the Wild, and Zelda is a system seller for me. However, the fact that I still love the Switch itself speaks volumes for the hardware. So many good games on the horizon, too, so I'm very excited for the future.
The one thing holding it back for me is the lack of Virtual Console. The Wii U had the best VC so far (especially with GBA games), so it would be heartbreaking if the Switch didn't match the VC of it's predecessor.
It's a very strong start, but if the Virtual Console issue was sorted it would be so much more. GBA, SNES, N64 (and hopefully GC) all on one portable/handheld hybrid sounds like a dream to me.
Every time there's a new announcement, I pray it's a character from a different FE title, or at least another from Shadow Dragon.
Have been quite excited about this but I've not played much of the 3DS entries. Feels like they could just throw a bone to us older fans.
I'd love Lyndis most of all. But I thought we'd at least see the Smash Bros guys - Roy and Ike.
I really do hope they don't limit older characters to DLC. I don't mind paying for extra stuff (Hyrule Warriors was pretty fair imo) but the DLC characters don't feature in the story which always makes them feel less part of the game.
Just worried that this is going to be Fire Emblem 3DS Warriors with a few original characters I couldn't care about. Hyrule Warriors used three distinct Zelda settings and also created it's own awesome take on Zelda, Link and Impa which felt like a fourth setting - and works given that Zelda does this as a staple with it's core cast (and also felt like Link and Zelda were connected to everything on an overall level with no bias toward a specific game)
I get that they want to appeal to the modern fans, but I think they could have done a 2:1 ratio of 3DS guys to classic ones.
While I really love these weekly updates, I do have a small complaint I just thought I'd bring up -
Each of these posts starts off with an image at the top of one of the games, but there's never any way to identify which game the shot is of. Is there any way you could start simply putting a caption after the image for easy reference? Quite often I see images of games I don't recognise and it's a little frustrating.
I'm assuming this week's is Flip Wars, but I do wish this was something that could be added in future.
As I say, I love these posts - they are my first source of Switch release info. But just thought I'd bring up my thoughts just in case they might be taken on board.
@Ralizah Yeah. I had a bit of a nasty surprise, I had it pre-ordered way back when it was due out at the end of June, and about a week before that date I checked my pre-order to see it had been pushed back
Personally, I'd love this to be the future of console gaming. I'd love to have a portable PlayStation, too.
Nintendo haven't pushed graphics this generation, but it feels like a push to redefine what a games console could be. I no longer want "home consoles" and "handheld consoles", when I can have both in one. Give me big games like Zelda I can play on the go, and games like Fire Emblem that are usually handheld and let me play it on the TV too.
It's like my perfect console. I just wish it had some kind of trophy support, but I know Nintendo don't really want to go that route.
It just seems to me that if a console doesn't push graphics, people don't see anything else as advancement as a console. But this is console evolution in a different way, is all.
I just wish I could trust Nintendo to keep this "gimmick" as part of their standard for future consoles. But they do have a tendency to just do something new each gen so I can imagine we may not get a "Switch 2"
I like to play the odd bit of local competition in racers and fighters with friends, but really don't have an interest online matchmaking or competitive events. I really hope Nintendo don't push aside development of single player titles in favour of chasing the current trends.
Of course, the more variety the Switch has, the better, but with so much reliance on in-house titles from Nintendo there's only so much they can produce and promote. Been dying for a new Metroid since the Wii, but I get the impression Nintendo are shifting their focus which worries me.
I tend to prefer my multiplayer games with a solid solo experience - games like Smash Bros Brawl, Injustice and SEGA All-Stars Racing all offered the equivalent of a story/campaign mode which I really enjoyed and felt as though I got my money's worth. I bought Street Fighter V and it was so focused on the online aspect that I've barely touched it and I regret my purchase.
ARMS doesn't appeal to me at all. I'm sure there's a market, but personally I don't really get it. Splatoon looks interesting, but I can't work out if it's got anything to offer for someone who prefers solo play.
I really hope that Nintendo push the library for the Switch. I loved the Wii U, and I love the Switch even more as a console - but Nintendo always scare me with their very unclear plans for their consoles' futures.
If the Virtual Console gets the kind of library that the Wii U did, I'll be playing the console in portable mode A LOT for those classic releases. The Wii U had a decent selection, and I loved playing the retro titles on the gamepad. Sadly it felt a little lacking when you were anchored within such a short range of the console itself. If they can get GBA, N64 etc and hopefully GameCube/Wii in the long run - I can see myself flipping between docked and portable modes frequently as I go about my life.
Just needing those games. I'm done with Breath of the Wild, and while there are games I want in the works, I really hope Nintendo can make sure to keep other content coming in the mean time.
THIS! I love off-TV play, it blew my mind the first time I did it. However, the range is way too short. My front room is next to my bedroom and I can't sit in bed without losing signal - if I could, I would use it a hell of a lot more.
As it is, I very rarely use it as we have two TVs in our lounge so there's no problems when my girlfriend wants to watch her TV programmes. I do love it for map use, though. And VC games, especially GBA and SNES.
Sadly, the DS VC titles suck as they failed to give a decent selection of view modes. I'm really hoping they can update the software as even I could come up with better ways to display the screens...
@WaveBoy Overrated, are you kidding me? The sheer variety of boss fights was incredible for the Sega, not to mention the amount of love that went into how you fight - weapon mixing, throwing enemies/bombs in any direction (I love throwing bombs back at enemies), melee attacks, interesting level designs (normal, mine cars, board game). I'm not saying it has to be everyone's favourite, but hardly overrated. One of my all-time favourites.
"One of Gunstar Heroes' key gameplay features is the ability to combine your permanent starter weapon (selected from one of four at the beginning) with weapon drops (of the other three types) found during play in order to create new hybrids."
Is this right? The way it always was when I played it was that you start off with one of the weapons, but it wasn't permanent and you could fill your two slots with any combination of the four weapon types as you played. Hoping the "classic" gameplay mode isn't different from the one I grew up with.

I really like the screenshots, shame about the low score. Think I’ll skip it for now. Maybe in a sale.
