New information and gameplay segments from at the latest Nintendo Direct show progress is indeed going smoothly for Suda 51's upcoming Travis Strikes Again: No More Heroes.
Everyone's favourite Otaku will have to tackle seven different games - each with a unique boss - who were for the first time revealed during the presentation via new artwork.
New information included the the added text adventure mode that will bring a brand new plot to the No More Heroes canon and the confirmation of three of the seven games types: action, racing and puzzle.
Also confirmed is two player co-op mode, with Travis being accompanied by Badman, controlled by the second player.
Grasshopper's latest slice of assassin action will be released in 2018, with a solid release date to be confirmed at a later time.

Was hugely disappointed with how this looked to be honest. Still hoping it will play well but it wasn’t what I expected at all
Right now this looks like hectic fun and I'm excited to give it a shot. Like the post above me, there is tons of Twitter chatter about how people are disappointed in how this looks but I like when games take a risk and change up their style and I will wait for more details before I change my opinion or write this one off.
This game looks great. I recently picked up the wii games but have not had time to play yet. Hope I can finish them before this comes out.
@Mr_Pepperami me too... I don't know if it will become a good game in the end, but i never liked this kind of games... I was really hoping for some sort of sequel.
Looks great IMO
looks better than the wii games imo.
i have the 1st and couldn't stand it. motion sucks. this one looks MUCH better.
Crazy Japanese hack and slash. Will give it a try, but it didnt grab me yet.
What the heck. I was expecting it to be like the first two, with better visuals and a proper gamepad controll set up.
Massive fan of Suda51 and NMH, but I can't decide if this looks good. Was hoping for something that resembled the previous games but this has a bit of a simplistic look to it. Hope its more than just aimless running and slashing.
I'll of course be buying, but looks far from NMH3. Fingers crossed I'll be proven wrong.
This looks fantastic, even if less bloody than the first 2... I can't wait!
Also, with Suda's love for Snatcher, I am very excited to see how the new 'adventure mode' turns out!!
Suda 51 already said that this game was NOT a sequel our part of the main story, but something totally different so I don't get the disappointment because it is not a sequel...
I didn't know what kind of game we would get and, after seeing the gameplay... I think I still don't know... but I haven't played any No More Heroes before so...
This game looks insane and therefore awesome. I'll definitely be getting this one.
When Suda51 said this was done in a smaller budget than his previous games, he wasn’t kidding.
This is somewhat disappointing to me. As someone who hasn't played the Wii games, I was excited to see something akin to them. I really want to like the game, so I will give it a chance, but I'm not impressed by what's been shown.
That said, I have a great feeling about the game's story/writing.
Yeah this looks really disappointing and not at all like a No More Heroes game...
This game look bad compared to the others, I like No More Heroes 2 the best still need to finish it actually. I will hold out to see the reviews before deciding if it is worth a purchase.
This was the only game I really looked forward to... And it looks horrible
As a fan of the first two, I think that this looks even better! I love that it isn’t a straight up, by numbers sequel! It looks to have an arcade-like quality to it!
The way that I see it is that, if it turns out well, that’s one more good game that Switch gets! Think positive!
Amazed by the negativity.
1) They've said from the beginning that Travis Strikes Again would not be No More Heroes 3, and would play differently from the parent series.
2) This is the first game that Suda51 has directed since the last No More Heroes. That is reason alone to be excited and have faith.
Looks pretty cool. Definitely not a traditional No More Heroes game, though Suda never said it would be.
Hey...oh, that didn't go very well. Hi everyone, I'm Suda51 from Grasshopper...........so...today I'd like to start, uh, I've be- I've been invited to come to this event and I'd like to talk about, uh, one of the games that I've...worked on.........uh
Came back to commenting NintendoLife (it's been a busy month, y'all) just for this Direct.
Mixed feelings all around. Hopefully the PEGI 18 from the Direct's initial disclaimer was more because of this than the South Park game. I mean, if it's an exclusive, then we should milk it for all that R-rated legacy the No More Heroes, er, franchise is worth.
Day 1. I love the series (2games...)
Not a fan, looks stupid
Thank the videogame gods that the PS4 is having a stellar year. This direct was disappointing. Portfest for me: I already own Southpark on PS4, Dark Souls on PS4, Hyrule Warrios on both Wii U and N3DS, Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker on Wii U.
Then you get the new games and this one looks average at best, Mario Tennis and Smash are not my favorites but I get that some people love them.
My biggest highlights: Luigi's Mansion 3DS and Octopath Traveler (for which I was already on board).
@James696 It's a Nintendo life message board and you are amazed by the negativity?
@Al_Godoy
....how do you own Dark Souls for PS4 if it launches the same day as the Switch version?
Why is almost everyone hating? I think it looks amazing.
Bring a huge fan of the series, I am one of the disappointed ones. The first was really good, and the 2nd fixed almost all the issues with 1st and added dual wielding lightsabers. This looks like Suda just decided to make mini games from the 2nd into the main attraction. I will miss the camera being in close for the intense boss battles. I’m sure I’ll get this, just not as hyped as before.
People complain when sequels are too "samey".
People complain when sequels change it up.
Weird. Nonetheless, I like concept of this game. No More Heroes is a series that never takes itself seriously, in other words there's plenty of quirkiness. I can really appreciate that.
Gameplay looks like hack and slash action at its best. If reviews don't list any performance issues, I will almost certainly pick this one up.
I’m really disappointed. I expected those minigames to be a small portion of the main adventure, just like in NMH2 with its totally optional 8-bit side quests. Seems like they wanted to cut short the details and make a budget collection of minigames.
A real shame. It had potential to be something else.
Next time I’ll read more interviews before getting excited. The first trailer (on Switch presentation last year) was misleading as hell.
Man this game looks really cool.
I never played the previous games, but this game is original as they come! Kudos to Suda for daring to be different.
I love it.
@Donutman The second game is perfect, probably on my top 3 Wii titles, and even among the best beat-em-ups out there.
It deserved at least an HD port before this disappointing spin-off.
Wow, people will b*tch about anything apparently. From the start they said not to expect No More Heroes 3. I'd love to get a true sequel eventually but for now this spinoff will be more than welcome, looks like a blast and this type of game is a perfect fit for Switch. As long as the price isn't something crazy I really don't see what the complaining is about.
@JaxonH
Surprised you never played the originals. I'd still recommend them if you ever get the chance. Two of the best action games that generation.
Only played the first NMH, and it was great. At first glance, it looked like Travis Strikes Again had turned into a clone of Furi - IF YOU LISTEN TO THE ANNOUNCER INSTEAD OF GUT REACTING TO A FEW SECONDS OF EARLY FOOTAGE however, you'd know there is going to be a variety of game styles within this package.
How does one not get excited if you played the others and enjoyed them? As long as it controls well (Suda is bonkers, but his grasp on game control is equally so), I'm sure it will be a true Suda gem.
@Gamer83
Ya, I wasn't that big of a gamer back in the Wii days. In fact I had never even heard of Zelda before until my brother showed me early screenshots of Link from Twilight Princess back before they released the Wii.
I only got one because of Metroid Prime 3. And I had only gotten a GameCube after seeing my bro play Metroid Prime. So I bought the silver $99 GameCube along with Metroid Prime 1 and 2 and F-Zero GX, which was a long time fave series I grew up on with SNES and N64 entries.
Got my Wii and Zelda Twilight Princess, Wii Sports and Metroid Prime 3, and that was all I played for like 3 or 4 years. Then I got Donkey Kong Country Returns, which was the last game I played on the Wii. Think I played a couple others after I learned about modding the Wii, but those are the only ones I really remember.
Could probably play them via Dolphin. But if it uses motion I'd rather use my Wii U. Maybe I'll pick them up, if you say they're that good.
@JaxonH
It seems like you enjoy crazy over the top action games like Bayonetta. This isn't exactly the same thing but the hack and slash is still a lot of fun and Travis is a wrestling fan so you learn a bunch of wrestling moves over the course of the game that you use to do some sweet combos to finish off opponents or at least do some serious damage.
@Gamer83
Is it technical? Like good timing and combos and dodging? Or is it just button mashing without much skill?
Not that the latter can't be fun (I like Nights of Azure 2 and Fire Emblem Warriors after all). But if it's technical that definitely piques my interest
Looks awesome as hell. Can't wait to see more of the different game worlds/scenarios. Isometric was obviously expected since Suda mentioned a Hotline Miami crossover. Still curious where he is going with that and the other references he intends. Should be rad.
@JaxonH
I don't remember it being too technical. I'm not the most skilled gamer and got through it without any issues. I did some button mashing for the first hour or so but once I got the controls down (remember it being easy to learn) it was smooth sailing. I'd be willing to bet you're a better gamer than I am so I don't think you'd have an issue especially if you're good at the Bayonetta games.
REAL gamers who know their games are excited for this. A mix of genre's is one of the coolest things to have in a video game. THIS GAME WAS THE BEST PART OF THE DIRECT!
I'm suprised people seem disappointed by this. Remember it's a spin off not a sequel, and the gameplay to me looks as bonkers as the best of Suda51's stuff.
@StormtheFrontier
Just like with federation force, are we getting a sequel? spin-offs are fine for healthy series's
@khaosklub I don't know if a sequel's coming too. But there's nothing wrong with a spin off simply being a spin off.
Plus a lot of people took against Federation Force's gameplay too, whereas this just looks like a solid game that's gone in a different direction.
Not feeling it, so I'll probably pass on this until there's a good sale.
I am obviously in the minority here, but I think this game looks great! Never played the first two so don't have the disappointment there. Can't wait to give this a go this year!
The combat segments look similar to previous games and if anything are probably an improvement. I love the Wii games but everything that wasn't combat was pretty awful so I welcome the change up. This isnt NMH3 after all.
@Biff_ARMStrong most ridiculous comment on here. So anyone who didn’t like the look of the gameplay isn’t a real gamer? Grow up. What an infantile fanboy thing to say.
Looks a damn sight more interesting than the first two, beautiful visuals( can't believe some people trying to say this looks worse than the Wii games, lol) varied gameplay along with an all new story mode, sign me up
Anyone who expected this to be like the the first two is an idiot.
It was always clear this was going to be a different style of game.
The reveal stated there would be an adventure mode like the original at the end.
There seems to be some disappointment that this follow up isn’t true to the originals, but surely this part of the reveal shows that it is? Plus all the other game modes.
Color me excited. Granted I have never played the originals, but this looks insane.
My most anticipated Switch game, it looks fantstic.
@Turrican280 Sequel?
@YANDMAN
Edited it to show follow up. I confused myself 😮
Do the originals hold up well still? I’ve heard the hype but never owned them and slighly regret not buying them when they came out originally.
Never like the originals, good to see game has a new direction, tho not one for me. Really don't want an indies collection as I don't buy indie games.
The second game is among my all-time favourites, so I'll give this one a fair chance, despite how different it looks. They clearly understood hectic fun, random humour, and great character design in the previous installment, and that's exactly what this one looks like.
I loved the first two, and this looks like more of the good stuff.
For all that worry about how it looks different, you've been sudatrolled. At the end it says you've got a new adventure mode. It's like a focus shift because Travis cares only about the video games.
This man is a legend.
Did anyone else notice that the character Travis talks to in the text adventure segnent is named Uehara and also somewhat looks like Kamui Uerhara from The Silver Case?
I hope this hints at a Switch port of The Silver Case and The 25th Ward.
Guys, before say "im disappointed" remember this is a SUDA game.
It should be all crazy and "different".
@KingdomHeartsFan
Yes Sir! I will do that 🙂
An HD version would be good though, especially with the portability factor.
To all the people wanting NMH3, look elsewhere. There's a reason this isn't called No More Heroes 3. If you've been keeping up with the development news about this game you'd know that this game is an offshoot of the series. Suda hasn't written off the idea of NMH3 though but it looks like it might depend on sales of this game.
We knew it's not No More Heroes 3 but a spin-off, so I'm totally ok with this gameplay, it looks great, day one for me
The day I am not looking forward a new Suda 51 game is the day video games have no meaning any more and I will retire.
@Mr_Pepperami That's right, now [removed]! lol. Not liking the gameplay as it has a good variety of gameplay. Just being a whiny [removed] for the sake of being one.
Mind your language - Octane
I loved the first two NMH games, but I don't know how I feel about this...wait and see, I suppose.
@Biff_ARMStrong so does this real gamerz(has to be with a z as you guys are so cool) club you are a part of have special badges that you wear? Do you meet in a treehouse club room after school, have a secret password and no girls allowed?Hahaha 😂
@BanjoPickles I meant PS3.
@Mr_Pepperami Nah, it's a club where we live our lives in a positive manner without being a bunch of [removed] who [removed] and judge things about [removed] they know nothing about
Mind your language - Octane
@Biff_ARMStrong oooooooooooooo you ok?
You aren’t coming off very positive to me at all. You are the one who can’t seem to accept that people are allowed other opinions. You think it looked great that’s fine and it doesn’t bother me one bit but me saying it was disappointing and you throw insults, swear words and insulting terms about disabled people. You should look at yourself.
Looks like a great mix of old school NMH and new stuff! Probably the highlight of the direct for me!
Definitely got Furi vibes at some point which is a very good thing Indeed !
dances around in excitement
@LeonBelmontX
Well to be fair NMH is a crazy mess of cut scenes and loading scenes, followed by brief intervals of hack and slash+boss fight. Followed by longer intervals of jobesque mini games to earn money.
Looks promising. Probably a day one for me.
So this is more like a mini-game (using the term loosely) collection? That's quite disappointing ... =(
Not impressed by the footage at all.
Yup, its a spin-off! Looks okay at best.
@Biff_ARMStrong Mind your language!
@Mr_Pepperami @Biff_ARMStrong And both of you need to calm down.
@Turrican280 eah they are fantastic games. Weirdly i find the controls in the second one a little more difficult even though they are streamlined. The second game as evolution should depict is much more polished and fleshed out and has some lovely NES style mini games. You should have both in your collection.

@YANDMAN
Cheers for the reply mate. Think I’ll be adding those to my collection in that case 🙂
