Long time Nintendo fans may remember Bandai Namco's Go Vacation on the Wii, which we weren't exactly bowled over by at the time. Anyway, it seems Bandai Namco has heard the demands for a remake, and the game will be coming to Switch on 27th July.
In the game, you go on vacation to the tropical Kawawii island and stay in a special resort. Activities on the resort range from sky diving and beach volleyball to tennis and even snowball fights; it seems the island has quite a varied climate. The game boasts more than 50 mini-games and activities to enjoy.
Some of these games will be co-op and some will be competitive. They can be played solo or with up to four players via a single Nintendo Switch system or local wireless. Several activities offer the option to use motion controls, making swinging your tennis racket and throwing snowballs even more fun and immersive.
You'll get to discover new surprises each day as you adventure through the four different resort areas on Kawawii island. While exploring – either on foot, on horseback, on a snowmobile or more – you’ll discover numerous collectibles, challenges and other opportunities to level up and customise your character.
You can decorate your own villa, enjoy a delicious meal at one of the food trucks and snap in-game photos of the dozens of adorable animals hiding in each resort. Regular challenges and presents, like special costumes and different dog breeds, will keep you coming back for hours of Kawawii island adventures.
Check out the trailer above and let us know if you plan to pick up Go Vacation for your Switch in July with a comment below.

Never played this on the Wii but it looks fun, ill probably give it a shot.
@WiltonRoots grab a large bag of popcorn, this one will be a treat.
On topic: thank God Nintendo announced this now instead of E3, otherwise we'd have to deal with all the witty "Nintendo is pandering to the casuals, what about us hardcore gamers hurr durr" nonsense
if were getting remakes. Nintendo should consider Snowpack Park and other never to be see wiirare gems.
I'd rather save the money I'd spend on this to get a real vacation.
I put so many hours into this game on the Wii when I was a kid. It’s nice to have on the Switch but I probably won’t pick it up.
Yay...!
HD Remake of Go Vacation was like a Dream comes true.
@gortsi I think that's going to happen anyway, as I'm pretty certain that they'll show Labo in some form.
@Anti-Matter : All dem SXC CHIBI BOIZZZZ!!!!
Trailer looked fun. Never knew about this game. Is it as good as Wii Sports Resort?
This looks cute. Good for multiplayer too, might look into it if the price is low enough. I'm talking £25 max.
@Alikan
Go Vacation >>> Wii Sports Resort
50 different Games (Racing, Sports, Rhythm, Arcade) >>> 12 Sports games
@Arcade91 No problem with that on my part. Variety is key, and for those not interested in Labo it can always be their E3 bathroom break
@Silly_G
I will print a Big poster of Go Vacation Switch version and i will paste inside my Bedroom.
Looks like Wii Sports Resort on Steroids
Wii Sports Resort was decent to be fair so I may be interested in this
@Anti-Matter
But are they motion based? Wii Sports Resort is an all time classic, so that’s quite a statement. The archery game alone is worth the price of entry. Every time I have a party, Wii Sports Resort is requested.
This is something my kids may enjoy. Depends on the price though, I can't see them charging a full $60 for this.
@Agent721
Um...
From my experience, even you ride on Jet Ski, Skate board, Snow board, Skiing , jumping, you must shake / tilt your Wii mote.
On the land, when you walk, no need to shake any Wii mote / Nunchuck, but you still have to point your Wii mote on TV or you can use Analog buttons from Nunchuck when you want to choose something during Mini games Menu.
Had this on Wii. Played it a bit multiplayer with the family, it was a fun 4 player game that let each player go off and explore on their own split screen and build and decorate their own house. When 1 of the 4 came across a minigame all 4 players would join in.
The thing I most remember about it though was the listing on Amazon and elsewhere said "online play" so I preordered it so my kids could play with their distant cousins, but it didn't have online anything. Amazon eventually took that line out but it left a bad taste in my mouth none the less.
Don't know what the price will be, or if Miis will still be in it, but if you want a fun little minigame collection for the kids it's not bad. Who knows, it might even motivate them to go outside.
@Anti-Matter I know! This is probably one of my most played Wii games ever!
I sunk a lot of time into the Wii version, I loved being able to explore the island, and most of the activities were fun. Hopefully this versions runs better in multiplayer.
@rjejr
"Who knows, it might even motivate them to go outside. "
Yeah, the kids will go outside.... with their Switch to play.
@Anti-Matter
Alright, I’ll keep my eye out for it then. Many seem quite excited! I don’t mind kids game either as my friends have tons of kids. Just played 1 2 Switch with them over the weekend.
@gortsi - We're an earshot away from E3, this still has a chance to be incorporated in some peoples repertoire for complaining about Nintendo.
Just bracing for the inevitable Mario Party announcement eventually and hear about that for 3 years.
@Tsurii
Come on !
Don't you know if they are so Kawaii (Cute) for Casual gamers ?
@Paraka indeed! I've said it before, they will announce something like Nintendogs at E3 and people here will lose their s...t over it
@Hikingguy omg I'm sorry for your loss!
@Hikingguy
"If my son was still alive he would be ecstatic. "
Oh....
I'm sorry to hear that.
May he feel happy from above when he heard the Switch version of Go Vacation.
Never expected the Go Vacation series to come back. May have to give the go series a try.
@Tsurii "so bad that the kids would rather just go outside"
They should put that on the box art to get parents to buy it.
@Anti-Matter "Yeah, the kids will go outside.... with their Switch to play."
That was pretty funny. And it never even occurred to me so bonus points for you.
Game looks cute. I think my kids would enjoy it. I’ll have to keep it in mind come July.
I thought this was wii sports resort deluxe
Sounds like a perfect match for the family! Would like to see some gameplay footage.
Hopefully it's closer to wii sports resort than most of the third party wii minigame collections.
Of our 100+ Wii games this one is the most played!
My kids loved it.
An HD version it's a day one buy.
@gortsi I want this game to have the best implementation of voice chat on the Switch.
If Miis are supported I'll probably buy it, if not I probably won't.
Well you gave it a 4/10 on Wii, so unless they improved the game in some way, it probably will get the same rating from NintendoLife on Switch.
I enjoyed this back in the day as a supplement to Wii Sports, but man, it has not aged well in the visual department. Simply upping the resolution on a Wii game from nearly 10 years ago doesn’t quite cut it. The graphics look terrible. Could they have at least updated the models and textures? And as much as I appreciated the fact that you could walk around and explore the individual resorts, the mini games themselves were definitely a mixed bag. Some were fun, but most of them were uninspired and way too simple.
I remember this. It was one of the first reviews I had to disagree with on Nintendo Life. They gave it a 4/10 but it would have to be a 7/10 at worst IMO. Most reviewers at the time seemed to agree.
does anyone know if you are able to use your mii's in this game?
@gp_amuro
On Wii version, yes.
Switch version , we don't know yet.
Wait until the game released.
@Thisismycomment
You know....
The reason why did Go Vacation have an Open World Resorts, because you have to find 7 Treasure Boxes (Contained New outfits) & 14 Different Photo spots on each Resort ( 7 different spots at Day, 7 different spots at Evening / Night).
Caught this vid at work and was duely impressed! I'm sold. I will definitely be picking this up, though I really dont remember seeing it on the Wii. Ah well~
This is the only game I've ever returned after buying it. It had so much promise but was such a letdown. I love Wii Sports Resort, and this was that with more variety and slicker graphics. But DANG the motion controls were absolutely awful! And I was a big defender of motion controls in general.
@Hikingguy
Huh ?
Let me correct.
You can use Mii for Go Vacation Wii.
Here is the proof.
As of now, this ain’t for me. If my daughter was any older then maybe, but not right now.
@Anti-Matter @Alikan
Yeah, with a battery that only lasts for two hours lol.
@thesilverbrick
I thought games were about the gameplay and not the graphics. Oh well, everyone's a critic.
@Benjamillion
Wii motes can survive for more than 2 hours.
Thanks. I hope they don’t take this feature out of the switch version@Anti-Matter
@Benjamillion I do own a TV I could play this series of party games on....also a portable battery if for some reason I needed to play this on the go.
This so needs online! Does it have it though?
@Hikingguy You should definitely get this game, not just for your daughter but also to remember the good times you and your son had with it. I get a feeling it would be quite emotional for you and the family when the game first turns up and you unwrap it and put it on.
I think I'll stick with Wii Sports Resort lol
I loved this on the Wii. I have so many fun memories with my friends on this. Day one for me.
I think there's quite a few people here that are wearing their subjective, rosy-tinted Wii Sports Resorts glasses...
Entertaining as that game was, it was most definitely not better looking than this game. Far more detail in the surroundings, characters with actual limbs and FAR more customization options, and instead of just separate mini-games with no connection whatsoever, this game offers over 50(!) mini-games which take place on an island group that you can travel around, instead of just selecting events.
And although it's true that it is a bit of a mixed bag, with some games being decidedly simple and short, there's still WAY more on offer here than in Wii Sports Resort, so if you liked Sports Resort, and love playing games with family and friends, you could do far worse than buying this one.
Bit of extra info for the interested:
This game is more or less the spiritual successor to the Wii games We Ski and We Ski & Snowboard, so it's actually one from a series of games, all of which are actually quite fun to play.
EDIT:
Original trailer, for comparison's sake (also shows quite a few more games than the new trailer):
And here's a good review from a parent and his kid, good for parents who are considering this game:
And one other review, just to have a second opinion from a predominantly single player, and slightly more critical perspective:
Great. Back to the God forsaken Wii era with this crap.
This just makes me miss even more a proper Pilotwings...
@Benjamillion Why can’t a game play well and look good? It’s ignorant to think a good looking game can’t play well. What the developers have done here is super lazy.
I loved this game!!, really it took me time to look for it and get it, but it was worth it!
now, it will return for playing anywhere, oh my!! ^.^
and..., well, again people complaining as always..., ok, yes, I know that not everyone likes a certain game, it's normal, but, again, seriously, a Drama for complaints?, oh please..., ..., ok, better forget it, sigh...
@diablo2
Excuse me ?
Is that game a crap ?
Huh, never heard of this one before. But it actually looks like something that might be a good bit of fun to play on the Switch.
YES! This is such a surprise announcement. My friends and I have put entire days into this game on Wii. I’ve always wanted a new game or a remake with some better graphics.
Hoping we can system link, turn off maps, and play hide and seek.
Whatever happens at E3 is just icing on the cake now.
I really wanted this. This should manage to not run like a slideshow in 4 player mode, and in HD!
I hope it will have slightly less unnecessary motion controls (like the pressing a button AND flicking up to jump) but I REALLY hope it will support Miis. It is so fun to play as your self and friends and family, and the included avatars don't cut it as representations.
Bandai Namco has the IPs for Gundam, Dragon Ball, and many other interesting series. So they turn around and give Nintendo this junk. HARD PASS, GET OUT
Bandai lets talk when you finally make good use of that Gundam IP and give us an awesome Gundam game that is more than an arcade shooter or fighting game.
I remember when this was announced on Wii, but I forgot about it. I will probably pick it up this time around.
@LuckyLand @gp_amuro @Blueberry Miis are supported. Check the description here: https://www.nintendo.com/games/detail/go-vacation-switch
@Heavyarms55
You know, just let the Casual gamers got Go Vacation rather than Boyish franchises such as Gundam , Naruto , Dragon Ball , etc.
I had played Go Vacation Wii since year 2011, it was a quite good game.
It's so relaxing to able play the game that you can enjoy the scenery, exploring beauty resorts, playing indoor & outdoor axtivities, get fancy by customize the looking, etc.
Not many developers want to spend their times to create Relaxing games like Go Vacation.
Be granted.
@Anti-Matter If you like it that much, perhaps it is not the shovelware it looks like. But I have wanted a new, good Gundam game for 3 generations of game consoles. But they keep making games that don't remotely feel like "Gundam" just fighting games and arcade shooters that could be anything just with a Gundam theme skinned over it. So I have been annoyed at Bandai's game development for a while now.
@Heavyarms55
Shovelware what ?
Compilation of 50+ Different Activities such as Ridge Racing, Tennis, Surfing, Mini Golf, Dancing, Dodging Throw Pie, Snowboarding, Kayaking, etc with features of customizing your own Villa was such a Relaxing games, not a shovelware.
I enjoyed those activities.
Of course Go Vacation is NOT a War / Fighting games that exploit adrenaline rush & tension to feel like a great games for male audiences.
Having an alternative option for Relaxing games is Not a bad idea actually.
Well, you better wait patiently from Namco for upcoming their games.
Looks fun! I especially like having more fishing games for Switch.
@Heavyarms55
Many of us have waited for new games of some franchises for years; I've waited for a new original Sim City like it was 3000 or 4; a new Need For Speed like the classics of 1994-2002; a new F-Zero, a new Railroad Tycoon as it was the 3; a new My Sims, a new Panel of Pon as the original of the SNES or the one that came exclusively on the GameCube; or a new Dance Dance Revolution; and like everybody, I haven´t obtained some of them and the "like" ones don´t feel their "essence" as I remember it, but that should not be the reason for I feel bad or get bad, and still more because (in those examples what I mentioned) EA, Nintendo, Take Two, Konami give me games that I do not like even the most minimal.
I understand it, we want games that we like, and it is difficult to wait, but patience and "have faith" is something that you have to "practice" and know that we will not always have what we want "soon", but someday, some day will come, while, if they give us something we do not want, well, enjoy that other people enjoy those games, or you don´t?; games is for all! right?
@ThatNyteDaez I don't remember seeing it either. The video for it kinda makes me thing of Sega Extreme Sports.
🤔...ok, it's piqued my interest.
What year is this?! 2006 Wii Mii games.
@Heavyarms55
Same here dude, haven't played a Good Gundam game since the ones on the PS2.
@Nekoo77 Chariot best girl
@JamesJose7 You know it
I have the original on Wii, haven't played it yet though. Maybe I should, looks nice and relaxing.
I am absolutely thrilled! This is one of my favourite and most nostalgic games of all time and I was disappointed to see that no one else seemed to like it. I'm happy that there are new features!
@Hikingguy
So sorry to hear that 😔
Just pre-ordered it the minute it came on Switch news lol
