Crypton Future Media has surprised fans of the Japanese pop sensation, Hatsune Miku, with the release of the puzzle/picross game Hatsune Miku Logic Paint S on the Switch eShop. And no - there's no link with Jupiter's picross series.
It's now available at an introductory price of 1,500 yen / $13.50 AUD / $10.50 USD and £7.50. This offer runs until the 31st of March, so be sure to purchase the game right away if you're interested. Here's the official announcement over on Twitter:
The Switch release is based on the original mobile version, which first arrived in March 2020. In the Switch game, there are six characters to choose from, over 350 puzzles to complete,18 songs to unlock, Hatsune Miku artwork to unlock and much more.
If you would prefer perhaps a different kind of Hatsune Miku game, why not check out Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA Mega Mix. As for Picross games on the Switch, there are plenty of other ones to check out.

Hatsune Miku Picross, huh? Sure, why not.
I down for it I hope it comes here soon.
It's not only out in the Japanese eShop as I already downloaded it from the Australian eShop before. I'm sure it'll hit all regions before long.
@BenAV Thanks, I've updated the article with this information.
It's the perfect game for me in theory as I usually listen to Vocaloid music while I play Picross anyway but I do have a few issues with it unforuntately:
Man, it couldn’t have just been called ‘Hatsune Miku Picross’ could it? This is like Dark Souls boss names level of convoluted 😂
I love this idea! I’m a sucker for anything picross and slapping Miku onto it makes it even better.
Oh, great game, and, well, for me, it's good that still is no available here, for saving money and hoping that that discount will be available here and soon
@nessisonett I'd assume that it's a rights thing. That's what it would have been called if it was developed by Jupiter.
Isn’t she that one girl who invented Minecraft?
Considering I use Picross to zone out as I listen to my music, this version is a little counterintuitive to me. I wouldn’t mind trying out Vocaloid music, but as @BenAV pointed out, if you have to manually switch the songs, that’s a level of unintuitive nonsense I don’t need.
l think l already have enough picross games
Is this an official Picross game or are you just using that word to describe the gameplay?
@Solomon_Rambling Yeah, it's certainly an improvement over the Jupiter games that drive me crazy after a while if I play with the music on but still much easier and better to just mute it and listen to your own music which I'm sure I'll do after I've unlocked and listened to all 18 tracks.
@ALinkttPresent It's not an official 'Picross' game, hence the title.
Hell to the YES. Cute af. I need.
Ha ha. Insta-download
Tempting. It almost looks like a bootleg game that is exploiting the Hatsune Miku and Picross licences.
While I have since stopped playing Picross games (I completed every single one on 3DS and the first three on Switch), I don't play any of the knock-offs. Jupiter or bust.
But I can't lie... this... tempts me...
Frankly, I'm a little surprised that other publishers can release Picross-style games without permission considering that The Tetris Company rules their IP with an iron fist (with $60 releases to prove it).
Very nice.
More Miku the better.
Miku Tap next maybe?
@Silly_G,
Because Picross is what Jupiter/Nintendo call "nonograms".
Its a Japanese kind of puzzle that can be found in Japanese newspapers for many years now. It hasn't been invented by Jupiter or Nintendo. This whole article was clickbait: Its a nonogram game, but not a official Picross.
@SorridoSnake
This is probably a joke but just fyi Minecraft is Swedish not Japanese
And immediately purchased! I really need to get back to and finish Murder By Numbers, too.
@Henmii : Cheers. That explains a lot.
It's on the NA shop now so I picked it up. At $10 and change it seemed reasonable but I'm not sure how far I'll go. I was hoping for a new Picross soon, and figured this might scratch that itch, but this lacks the finesse and polish of Picross. There are some limitations already mentioned that make me luke-warm. Too bad they didn't work with Picross to make an official crossover.
I love picross, I love Hatsune Miku.... I'll buy it
Cool... I guess they gave up on that Sega Picross game announced ages ago?
I'd be down for that if it ever gets an European release
the greatest picross game has arrived
"A Hatsune Miku Picross Game is Out now"
"And no - there's no link with Jupiter's picross series"
So...it's not Picross, just nonograms.
Picross Round 2 on 3DS looks better than this, so I'll dust off the 3DS when I'm in the mood for Picross
I had no idea picross was a name brand, nor that it had such a fervent following, but hey, I’ll take whatever logic puzzles I can get.
@nessisonett Hatsune Miku, Painter of the Puzzling Tiles ominous vocaloid choir music starts playing
I'm not big on Vocaloid, but I love Picross and I'm liking the artstyle here. Hope it crosses to this side of the globe soon
For a true quality Hatsune Miku product look up the Miku Stomp guitar pedal on youtube.
Less embarrassing to have in my play history than Kemono Friends, I guess.
@BenAV Oof. I was interested when I saw it yesterday while browsing Japanese eShop until I noticed it's not from Jupiter. I was still willing to give it a go but the issues you listed make me think I'll regret the decision. The controls probably aren't as precise either. Can you at least turn off the feature that grays out hint numbers?
@Late The controls are fine (more or less the same as the Jupiter games) and there are settings to change the face buttons around if you wanted to for whatever reason. Unfortunately, those are the only settings along with the character and sound settings. No gameplay/hint settings at all.
@BenAV Glad to hear the controls are at least up to snuff. I'm a fast solver so I need precise button presses. Even more crucial in this one since it penalizes for mistakes. Even Murder by Numbers, which is otherwise a very good game, had some input lag.
The hint number issue is a pretty major flaw. I'll pass for now. Thanks for making the decision easier for me.
I don’t know if I can get any nonogram game if it isn’t better than Murder by Numbers... I may wait for a lower-priced sale than the current sale.
Ah so North America is left out as usual....
No surprises there
@BenAV You'd think Picross games would have this all figured it out by now.....
I still want it though help
@Kieroni At least it's fairly cheap. Despite my complaints, I don't regret buying it as I'm still enjoying just casually playing through it even if it's not the best nanogram game around and I'm pretty happy to support basically any Miku game.
@anoyonmus It's out in NA now. What do you mean by being lelft out as usual? NA rarely misses out on anything.
Reminds me that I have the Twilight Princess Picross on my 3DS. They need to do more themed games like that.
@TantXL Yeah because she made it when she was visiting Sweden
For the Picross fans reading these comments, after playing most of the Picross S games on Switch, I took a break. But recently the Travel Mosaics games all went on sale for $2 a piece. Wasn't really familiar with them, but after some research bought the first Paris game, and have been enjoying it. I bought the second game, and will probably buy more when needed (they have a lot of puzzles). It's still nonograms, but the presentation and color feature has been enough to keep me interested.
@Liam_Doolan is been released on the NA eShop as well (as of March 18th) and it has the same discount deal as well. The full price is 14$ but it is currently available for 10.50
It is not Japan & Australia only anymore.
I thought I'd share that information with the intention of helping out.
(sorry if I bothered you)
@Chibi_Manny No prob, updated!
OMG... how cool is that O3O I have to look this up, big fan of those Hatsune Miku games ^3^
@nessisonett The name Picross is owned by Nintendo. The actual name for these type of puzzles is Nonogram.
Unfortunately, the game has some pretty severe issues. It helps the player way too much, with no way to disable those features.
@BenAV they just announced an update where you can shuffle the music and disable corrections.
@Blooper987 Yep I saw that. Very good update.
@TechaNinja does this game run good on Switch?
