Well, well, well. We may have been disappointed when our 2020 Direct predictions failed to come true, but what's 530 days of waiting between friends? Besides, we've been really busy in the intervening months, haven't we? We don't need you, Nintendo. We've got, er, a global pandemic.
We're just kidding, Ninty. We love you. Please come back to us.
The time is finally here, and the fabled Nintendo Direct is back, with a full fifty minutes of gaming. Is it too much to hope that those fifty minutes won't be entirely spent on the new Smash Bros. fighter? Here are our predictions for what Nintendo has got to show us, from the likely to the ludicrous.
New First Party Stuff
If Nintendo doesn't show off what they've got cooking over at their HQ, we shall eat our Cappy. Speaking of, there have been a few rumblings about Super Mario Odyssey 2 - although we just got a new Mario game, it wasn't technically a new Mario game, even though the addition of Bowser's Fury was a nice surprise. Surely the powers that be have actually got something planned for the end of Mario's 35th birthday celebrations, instead of disappointment and despair?
We'd love to see Super Mario Galaxy 2 come to Switch, hot on the heels of Galaxy 1's addition in Super Mario 3D All-Stars.
Mario Kart 9 would be nice, too, although if it does appear, we'd like to see it alongside something a little more traditionally RPG-esque, too. It'll be interesting to see where Nintendo takes the series after the anti-grav antics of Mario Kart 8, after all.
Of course, it's not just Mario that we want to see on-screen. A few... hundred... thousand people have been asking for more news on Bayonetta 3. We know it's coming, and we don't care that Hideki Kamiya told us to stop bothering him about it. Give us more hair-witch-with-guns-for-shoes! Just a little trailer, or a release date, and we promise we'll leave you alone. We'd love to say it's relatively likely that we'll see some Bayo after three years of no news, but we've been disappointed before, and we're ready to be disappointed again.
A few people have been muttering about a new WarioWare game, and we're inclined to agree. Combine the fast-paced rhythm puzzles with the cool (but quickly forgotten) stuff in 1-2-Switch, and you've got a masterpiece on your hands.
We know the F-Zero fans are probably reading this and hoping to be noticed - we see you! But we're not sure if Nintendo does. It's been almost 20 years since the last one, after all - and the track in Mario Kart 8 doesn't really count. We'll have our fingers crossed for you all the same.
It's also been a while since our last new Donkey Kong game. If you don't count the Mario/Donkey Kong games, the last one was Tropical Freeze in 2014, seven years ago. Seven years!! About time our large ape friend got a new outing, wouldn't you say?
This one's a bit of a pie-in-the-sky, very unlikely one, but ever since we wrote this piece about how the Ring-Con should be used in more games, we can't help but feel like we deserve more ways to use this squishy circle. Seems like Ninty loves to have incredible ideas for peripherals and then ditch them (sorry, Nintendo Labo) so let's not get our hopes up, eh?
And, finally, Metroid. It's about time for some more details on Metroid Prime 4, after all - the running theme of this Direct might just turn out to be "hey, remember that game we mentioned a few years ago? Yeah, it's ready now." We're okay with that.
Zelda Remakes, Or A Zelda Collection
People have been asking for Skyward Sword and Twilight Princess remakes for a while now - and yes, we know that the Wii U had the latter, but we're hoping that Nintendo continues their streak of acknowledging that very few people got to play games on the sadly unpopular Wii U. Some people are also asking for Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask to be added to the other two in a big ol' Zelda compilation, much like Super Mario 3D All-Stars - and given that it's Link's 35th birthday this year, that doesn't seem like it would be out of the question. What a treat that would be!
Of course, Wind Waker seems like such an obvious win for Nintendo that we'll honestly be a little disappointed if we don't see it... Unless they've got plans for a separate Zelda Direct. Ooooh.
New Smash Characters
This one's a given, right? But what's not yet known is exactly who it'll be. We'll just list some of our predictions in order of likelihood, and hopefully one of 'em will come true, and then we can say we totally called it.
- Crash Bandicoot (Crash 4): We know we're getting more Crash on the Switch, but what if we got more Crash in other games, too? We can't believe bloody Steve got an invite before Crash, tbh.
- The Knight (Hollow Knight): Following on from the Silksong announcement, this one seems like an easy way to butter people up for some more Hollow Knight. Plus: so darn cuuuute.
- Zagreus (Hades): He's already got a moveset strong enough to kill gods, and he's easily one of the most beloved characters from last year's games. Would it be too much to ask?
- Someone from Samurai Shodown (Samurai Shodown): A cult favourite, and kinda likely - we saw Nakoruru fail to catch an invite in Terry's reveal, so maybe she'll get another chance?
- Geno (Super Mario RPG): He's already a Mii costume, so all Nintendo needs to do is, you know, build the rest of him. Right?
- Another Link (Legend of Zelda): Happy birthday, Link. Meet Link, Young Link, Toon Link, Ganondorf, Zelda, and some rando called Sheik who definitely isn't Zelda. Skyward Sword Link and Twilight Princess Link are a little too similar to BOTW Link, but maybe Link To The Past Link could be added? Or, even better, Tetra.
- Mario of some kind (Super Mario): For the end of Mario's 35th anniversary, we can imagine maybe adding a Mario character to the roster. It would be a bit disappointing to see Nintendo's favourite child get even more presents, but we wouldn't say no to Ms. Mowz from Thousand Year Door...
- Another Pokémon (Sword & Shield): We can't really find it in our hearts to be particularly excited about this one. Unless it's Bewear. We love Bewear. It'll probably be Rillaboom, but who can honestly say they'd take Rillaboom over Crash?
- Another blue-haired Fire Emblem character (Fire Emblem): Please, no. We love Fire Emblem very much, but we can't keep padding out the roster with more sword-wielding Chosen Ones! Give us something new instead and we promise we won't complain in two years when you add another one, ok?
- Baby Yoda (The Mandalorian): Yeah, sure, why not.
Third-Party Ports
We'd love to see some of the big names coming to Switch, and now that Control and Hitman 3 have proved it's possible (as long as you don't mind the Cloud), we may see a few more soon.
Easy wins would be Cyberpunk 2077, Persona 5, and the Final Fantasy VII Remake. Fall Guys probably wouldn't go amiss, following on the heels of Among Us, but their exclusivity contract might stop them from announcing it any time soon.
Some older games, like Fallout 4, another Elder Scrolls, and maybe even Mass Effect (since we likely aren't getting the Legendary Edition) might be fun, too - as long as they hold up well on the Switch's hardware.
Personally, we'd really love to see some of the Life Is Strange games on Switch - it seems like such an obvious market for them. C'mon, Square Enix!
More Wii U and DS/3DS Ports
This one might be wishful thinking, but it's certainly not out of the question. There are so many games locked away on consoles we don't switch on quite as much as we used to, and since some have already made it over - Mario Kart 8, Super Mario 3D World, Pikmin 3, and Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, to name a few - why not more?
A port of the fourth Ace Attorney game, Apollo Justice, would go nicely with the trilogy already on Switch, and while you're at it, why not grab Shu Takumi's other masterpiece, Ghost Trick?
Xenoblade Chronicles X would be a nice one, alongside its brethren already on Switch, and how about Dragon Quest VIII from the 3DS? We could do with a few more really long JRPGs to while away the winter days.
Animal Crossing Update
Sure, they've been hard at work with Snow Boy and Festivale, but who's to say there won't be a big Year One update for New Horizons? Just imagine: the pandemic comes to your island, and suddenly it's all about protecting Marshal and Blathers from the deadly disease. Er, probably not. But maybe something Mario- or Zelda-flavoured. Remember when Wolf Link was a villager?
Indies
Hollow Knight: Silksong will almost definitely get some screentime, but what about all the new indies we don't even know about yet? The list of great indies on Switch is steadily growing, but we get the feeling that Nintendo won't cover too many, even with 50 minutes to fill. After all, they seem to prefer cramming them all into Indie World.
It would be nice to get some new, purposely-made-for-Switch games, instead of a bunch of ports that come well after the initial launch, and don't work as well on Switch. Just sayin'. We don't like being an afterthought. Sob.
Other Nintendo Stuff
Something something Nintendo Switch Online. Something something new Joy-Con colours. Something something... Nintendo Switch Pro? If it's anything like the PS5 or the, er, Xbox... Series One X... S (???), then they'll likely want a separate event just to show off what the new console is capable of, with a bunch of Pro-only games. We're only speculating, but we can't imagine that Nintendo would be on board with showing off a new console in amongst a bunch of stuff that doesn't make it look cool.
Wild Surprises
This one's hard to predict, since the nature of surprises would mean something we weren't expecting at all. New Nintendogs? Pullblox? A remake of Freshly-Picked Tingle's Rosy Rupeeland? Only time will tell, but we're really hoping for at least one big shocker, because those are the fun ones to write about.
Breath of the Wild 2
Ahaaa, you thought we'd forgotten? No chance. It's getting increasingly likely that we'll see more of BOTW2 than just a wrinkly old Ganon, and we're crossing our fingers for a surprise 2021 release date announcement. We're not going to say much more, because we don't want to jinx it.
We know, we know. We've probably missed off something obvious, or that one super-niche game that you're dying to play again. That's ok! Come tell us in the comments what you're really hoping to see today.

Sequel to mario odyssey now that the switch has been out and they can use it to its fullest capacity.
I want some quality ports and Zelda BotW 2 info!
Yes. Bring some Bethesda games. Fallout New Vegas, or an older Elder Scrolls like Morrowind.
I wonder if Square would bring over the FF7 remake? I didn't care for it, but I would be happy for the fans who want it.
I don't really know what to expect but I'm usually happy with anything they show. I'm just hoping that the 50 minute length is an indication that they have a lot that they want to show and that we don't get too many overly long, boring segments. Too early in the morning here for that, I might fall back asleep.
I actually want a new Mario Golf game to be honest. Looking forward to what the direct has in store.
I'm hoping for Fall Guys, but might be too far-fetched
I want :
1. Dance Dance Revolution
2. Dance Dance Revolution
3. Dance Dance Revolution
ETC...
Dance Dance Revolution for Nintendo Switch !!
A Switch Pro would not be a new console, just an updated model of the same console, so they would have no problem showing it off as part of this Direct. It also wouldn't have a bunch of exclusive games. I'd be surprised if it had more than 2 exclusives. That said, I don't think they are going to announce a Switch Pro now anyways
A Switch Pro reveal isn't off the table.
Nintendo previously revealed the Nintendo 3DS XL during a Jun 22nd 2012 Nintendo Direct.
https://www.nintendo.co.uk/News/Nintendo-Direct/2012/Nintendo-Direct-22-6-2012/Nintendo-Direct-22-06-2012-626397.html
I'm hoping for a full-on Dragalia Lost game for Switch. It seems Cygames wants to get more into console game development and I can't see Nintendo locking that franchise down to mobile for much longer.
Absolutely not expecting it but I would like a Tokyo Mirage Sessions sequel after enjoying the first game

Monolith Soft New IP
Etrian Odyssey VI
@RupeeClock If Koizumi shows up then I'll wager they've got something big to show...
As far as the Direct is concerned I go in as I always go in, expect nothing rather than hyping myself up.
Link’s Awakening like remakes of The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons and Oracle of Ages in one complete game, please!
I'm hoping for nothing.
Super Monkey Ball
Monoliths game (would take XCX in a heartbeat)
Earthbound Remake
Wario Ware
Donkey Kong Jungle Beat (but will take a 3D game)
Metroid (2D)
Kuru Kuru Kururin
Microsoft game
GTA Vice City (for the nostalgia)
Sands of Time
aaaand since no one is mentioning the N64's 25th anniversary...a N64 mini. (or more likely N64 on NSO)
Should set me up for disappointment lol.
@kategray that fake out in the beginning had me thinking I’d accidentally entered a portal to a string dimension where Genesis won the console war
I suspecting it'll be nothing but Smash updates.
But I hope im proved wrong (better to go into nintendo things with low expectations imho - once* bitten, twice shy)
Basically the announced slate is kinda clean till now, so anything can happen. I won't be able to watch it at the time it airs, but let's hope tomorrow starts on a positive note for me.
I’ll be happy with anything as long as they either show us a Zelda collection or announce a Zelda direct for a later date.
Trying to lower my expectations on this.
But then again we have had no big new AAA from NINTENDO in house studios for ages.
Most big games are fours old now from in house.
They must have some ready to go this year surely.
For me this year for Switch is a do or die year so let’s see what happens.
Xbox have already lost my game pass this year and series x.
So it’s PS5 and Switch currently, so I’m hanging on to this direct tonight for sure, else the Switch might follow the series x and game pass down the road.
But if we're doing pie-in-the-sky.. a FULL mario 64 remake, with all the mario 64DS features, multiplayer online and full remake of ALL the visuals (models/textures/effects/etc)
First Party Game - Splatoon 3 free to play on mobile!
Wii U port - Animal Crossing Amiibo Festival Deluxe!
Third Party Content - Fall Guys, available until March 31st!
I can't possibly be disappointed with expectations that low.
"hey nintendo fans, we were just kidding with this quarter's Switch online games- here's the ACTUAL line up: Super Mario RPG, Earthbound and Crono Trigger for the SNES, and Zoda's Revenge for NES."
I'd like to see a Selects range of cheaper 1st party games :
not so much for the early releases like Odyssey , Splatoon 2, Fire Emblem Warriors, Kirby Star Allies - but a bit later, Yoshi, Luigi's Mansion, Mario Party/Tennis etc ...
Personal wishlist:
1. New 2D Mario platformer to cap off the anniversary
2. Tony Hawk port
3. Advanced Wars HD
Mario Kart 9 would be mind blowing but I’m trying to keep my hopes in check here.
I would say BOTW 2 NEWS NOT THE GAME
I'm not holding my breath for anything, it'll prevent possible disappointment that way and also make any hype announcements all the more hype!
@RupeeClock It says it will only talk about games, I don't think there will be any new hardware.
It is possible, but unlikely.
Also Nintendo did deny the switch pro rumors.
And also, I don't think it will be called a switch pro. Maybe New Switch.
Completely forgot I desperately want FF7R to come over. That would completely fill my 3rd party void, and I guess some RE from Capcom too if you're twisting my arm.
I expect a smash reveal and maybe one game I'm actually interested in
To be honest it's been that long I'll take anything. I'm not expecting much new Mario stuff after the 35 anniversary direct last year although I'll optimistically remain hopeful for Oddesy 2
Games/stuff that would leave me smiling the most:
Also, Bewear in Smash would render any
and all future additional characters obsolete.
10 minutes of Smash
10 minutes of Ring Fit dlc
20 minutes of Animal Crossing
9 minutes of new racers for Mario Home Circuit
1 minute highlight reel of everything that has been leaked.
Heheh
It could definitely end with a SMO2 One more thing.... but I don’t think BotW2 will be there because it won’t be the first half of 2020. Although, I guess there was that one Q2 listing... there will definitely be Zelda though
The announced by then silent Western release of Yo-kai Watch 4 (and maybe the YKW1 remake) woud be vey nice.
I'd like a sequel to one of these:
None of these are very likely but I still have some hope for the latter two series. Other than that, I just want them to surprise me. I don't think I'll be disappointed, no matter what they decide to show us.
A beautiful port of Samus Returns from the 3DS needs to get some love!!!
Shin Megami Tensei plz!!!!!!!!
@Beolleika I WILL CRY IN HAPPINESS IF THAT HAPPENS
A lesser popular Zelda game remade in the new art style. Say 4 adventures or something multiplayer.
Metroid progress
Luigi mansion 1-2 remakes
HOUSE OF THE DEAD remake
Im hoping for outer wilds. That game is amazing.
Finally someone else thinks zagreus is great for smash!
Likely: Wind Waker HD, n64 Zelda ports, a new Mario game of some kind
Maybe: botw2 news, star fox zero port, SMTV news, silk song news
Wildcard hopes: Mario odyssey sequel, hd remake of retro title like earthbound, nes black box games, star tropics. Brand new actually good Kirby game
N64 switch online? Xxx
My Dream Direct:
Impossible but I can dream
Give me AC:NH and Zelda news and I'll be on cloud 9.
It’s going to be smash dlc, Pokémon snap, animal crossing stuff, some freeware game announcement, monster Hunter and probably a teaser for Bayonetta 3 or Zelda.
Zagreus would be great for smash, but realistically I don’t think that’s possible. They would have had to decide that like 3 years ago. If an indie fighter gets in, I think hollow knight, stardew rep, or undertale rep would be most likely
Well that has me hyped. Now to breathe and come back to reality.
It's Nintendo's year to lose. The Switch is a massive success and with many PS5 titles getting pushed to 2022, they have a great platform at a great price. Heck, we have 3 right now on our house! Now they just need to bring the games.
Just give me SMT. The forces of Law and Chaos wait for no man
I'd love to see a new Star Fox game be announced, especially one with Krystal in it.
would love remake of Fire Emblem 4 (Genealogy of the Holy War) and 5 (Thracia 776) under the Fire Emblem Echoes banner.
If mario O 2 shows up I'm going to F##ing scream.
Prime 4 is a ways off, but there's still a good chance we see Metroid in this presentation. Both 2D Metroid and Metroid Prime Trilogy have been heavily rumored, so they're fairly realistic predictions. I think we see one of those two today.
I would absolutely love a new Warioware game, but I would also love a new 2D Warioland game! Plus a new 2D Metroid or at least Metroid Samus Returns in some form.
I don't understand at all how anyone honestly expects or even wants Mario Kart 9. They only released the last one (on Switch at least) a couple of years ago. Nintendo doesn't release games in that series as often as that. And it's usually only 1 release per system (1 for SNES, 1 for N64, 1 for GC, 1 for Wii, 1 for 3DS, 1 for Wii U, etc)
@shonenjump86 Others mentioned this yesterday and it made me want a new Mario Golf too.
Maybe Sports Story is ready to release soon.
Zelda 2D Collection, Zelda 3D Collection, Zelda Multiplayer Collection Please
I just want Galaxy 2 and 3D Land on Switch...
...and some Splinter Cell ports from Ubisoft.
And I think I can speak for all of us when I say we want a new Doshin the Giant game.
It's so hard to suppress the hype after such a long time since the last big Direct! 8)
Personally, I'm hoping for some big announcements that blow away the in-depth looks we are sure to get for Pokemon Snap and Monster Hunter Rise.
Mario Kart 9 would be epic, though it's a long shot.
A Zelda collection sure would be nice, with the best from the N64 (OOT/Majora's), GC (Wind Waker) and maybe Wii (Twilight Princess / Skyward Sword). Maybe just the N64 and GC games make it, though.
The stream is during my ride home, so I'll have to avoid spoilers till I can watch...
@contrarian AW HECK, I forgot about Outer Wilds!!!! That's a great candidate for Switch!
I’m hoping Republic Commando will be available straight after the Direct!
Along as there's no ports then I'm happy as I'm sick of lazy cash grab ports now
Wouldn't mind yo kai watch 4 release and maybe some BOTW 2 gameplay
Tony Hawk
MLB The Show
Zelda 35th anniversary news
A game where a Pancake & Potato are best friends that solve crimes.
All I want are release dates for Cardshark and Omori.
I’ll just list what I’m expecting in no particular order. Persona 5, SMT5 and 3, Metroid Prime Trilogy, Zelda Anniversary, Virtual Console.
This is the one time I'm not specifically hoping to see anything since I'm the one person who is satisfied with the games on switch/ones that are releasing shortly, but that's mostly down to the fact that I am enjoying so many 3rd party and indie titles on it that I have missed over the years as a result of only ever owning Nintendo consoles. Not only that, I feel like I have all the first party titles i ever would want really since I'm not a big fan of the missing ones, So any surprise at all will make me happy really but if not that's cool too! (I'm already drowning in my backlog as is)not that a new direct isn't always a fun time of course!
Mother
Wave Race
F-Zero
Chibi Robo
Metroid
Wario Land (in the style of Shake It!)
Please? (At least one of these is possible)
I want only Donkey Kong Country games from Nintendo. Please let David Wise make the soundtrack again!
I think ive speak for many people today; zelda:botw2
and metroid prime 4.. thumbs up guys and girls ^_^ <3
Lol you've basically listed everything that's possible. I also hope to see everything!
Please Silksong!!!!!!! 👍🏻
i hope we get galaxy 2 dropped as a free update to 3d all stars! but since we just got 3d world that most likely is just a wish
I'd be very excited if a Xenoblade X port was announced. At that's despite already owning it on Wii U and never really being able to get into it. Of course, a Xenoblade 3 tease would be way more exciting (and even less likely I suspect). Rex for Smash?
Being hopeful but realistic i'm hoping for a trailer what shows off some gameplay for Bayo 3, don't need a release date just give me a simple trailer and i'm ok. Smash reveals i would like to see Dante, Crash, Tails, Monster Hunter or a Gen 8 PM revealed as the next fighter. Zelda wise being very hopeful some BotW2 news or even just a name reveal, being more realistic it would be cool if they announced ports of the Wii U remasters. Xenoblade X port would be nice. Maybe a Diamond and Peal remake reveal could happen? Yeah Galaxy 2 would be great but i doubt it sadly.
An actual new Super Monkey Ball
Skies of Arcadia 2/anything in the series tbh
Dunno tbh, anything that I don’t already own would be nice.
-The Knight for Smash
-Silksong release imminent
-Dark Souls 2 port
-Breath of the Wild 2 trailer with summer release
-F- Zero GX port
-Zelda collection with Ocarina, Majora, Twilight Princess, and Wind Waker
Smash Bros Character Reveal.
Zelda SS announced for Summer.
GB and GBA announced for NSO - out now and includes Minish Cap, Oracle of Ages/Seasons.
BotW2 Trailer and "Coming 2021"
Monster Hunter Rise update
Resident Evil game
GTA game, finally.
Pokemon Snap update
Kirby Mainline Game - May
Mario Sports (probably Golf) - June
Metroid V coming 2021
That's it.
No MP4
No Bayo 3
No Pikmin 4
No DK
No Star Fox Zero or Grand Prix (lol)
No Pokemon
No Nindies
But there's another update coming late Springand of course in June (Seitch Pro). Nindies update next week (it's Sports Story time). Pokemon Direct end of Feb.
I'd love for Nintendo to make a beautiful pixel art game (be it Mario, Metroid etc. or a new IP), but the other wishes for this Direct are the boring and obvious but dearly needed BotW2 and Metroid Prime 4 info and Mario Kart 9 announced!
I'm not getting my hopes up, but what I would LOVE to see is:
I DO expect to see a smash character announcement at the minimum.
@Sirloto Oh god i forgot about Terranigma, what a solid game!
@piitaahh sadly BOTW 2 wont make an appearance since this direct is limited to games in the first half of 2021, but we might get a teaser, who knows!
Just give me release date for No more Heroes 3 and i'm happy
Lol... Cyberpunk on Switch. That got me. Good one NL. 😂
My dream ND as follows......
1. Zelda Breath of the Wild 2 by Christmas 2021
2. Mario Kart 9 by Christmas 2021
3. Zelda OOT, Majora's Mask and a link to the past all stars compilation for Chrismas 2021
4. A new 3d and 2d Mario game for Christmas 2021
5. Fzero Switch for yep you guessed it
6. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in Time SNES remake and like yesterday!!!!
......... That would be one fantastic end to a really sh*t year so far
Alot of hype in this article! I cannot wait to see what we actually get!
PS a large online island on ACNH where you can meet other players, trade items, throw legal covid parties and have fishing competitions with your friends
Instead of yet another Mario Golf or Tennis, how about another entry in the Baseball or Football/Strikers series?
There is not a chance in hell we're getting FF7 Remake on Switch. It's just not powerful enough.
Just give me a Meowser amiibo. Easy win.
PPS a large bar on this new ACNH online island (open to all) where you can have a beer, game of pool, darts and put the world to rights with others?
So long as there’s some loz anniversary goodies (my personal prefs would be ocarina, and majoras… the latter I haven’t played) I’ll be happy, and I’m fully prepared to just enjoy the show 🍿
Links 35th birthday so maybe a remake of the first one?
but im hoping for windwaker
@Luigisghost669 They used the resources for Bowser's Movie.
If there’s going to be a new Mario reveal, I really hope it uses ideas from Bowsers Fury. Really enjoying this game.
As sad as it may be, I’m actually hoping for more ports. Of course I will always have interest in new games, but I still want to see Dreamcast / Saturn games as originally hinted at with the Ages Line, along with their greatest Arcade games.
Would like Arcade Archives to confirm more eighties/nineties games from Taito/Midway/Atari, with some Amiga classics thrown in.
More Gamecube / Wii U ports are also very much welcome (even though I still have these consoles, for me, Switch is the ‘Console of Convenience’
Anything Zelda related would also be good
I'd be happy with Mario Golf and to hear that EA (NHL) and Codemasters (F1) are going to send some love Nintendo's way.
Hoping to see a new fatal frame / port of maiden of black water. Would also love to see a new eternal darkness, or at least a port of the GC version. And more info for monster hunter stories. Another advanced wars (hopefully like days of ruin) would be cool as well. And if I'm doing truly crazy hopes, Nier Automata.
I'm calling it is:
Crash reveal for Smash
Crash 4 info
Metroid Prime Trilogy (no 4. Just an emulated Prime Trilogy)
Pokemon Snap info
10 minute presentation with 7th gen ports from 3rd parties+a few Indie games
Silksong
Animal Crossing update
Switch Pro
Mario Oddysey 2 news (launches with Pro, plays on both consoles)
New Joycon colors
Switch Online games (still only NES and SNES. I think Nintendo is going to release their handheld games in collections eventually instead)
Since they are having a Direct for the first time in forever, I do think it is just something special to have a Switch Pro reveal. I think Nintendo is going to go back to the content drops after this.
The last 2 Smash characters definitely will be a Pokemon and I do think Waluigi has an actual chance. I think they were planning on adding him in Ultimate anyways, but the fan reaction made them think it would be a good idea to save it until last.
2nd to last Smash character in a Pokemon 25th Direct, and the last one in the Summer Direct I feel is going to happen for announcing late 2021 games.
I think Zelda stuff will be in a few weeks with a Zelda Direct with:
BOTW 2 teaser
Zelda Collection
Zelda 2D remake
I've learned to anticipate a Nintendo Direct without investing in too much speculation. Of course there are certain titles/franchises/updates I wish to see, but I do feel some people set themselves up for disappointment by expecting the sun, moon, and stars.
I'm certainly looking forward to watching the Direct on my own time after I'm off work!
At least you're not asking for much.
I can see it now "What? no breath of the wild 2 or metroid prime 4? it is the worst direct ever!!! " no matter what else is shown. why don't sony ponies stick to their own system and oh wait, they do not have anything to play until june.
After waiting for as long as we have, I'm just happy that a new Direct is happening. I'll be watching like a giddy little kid during the broadcast. That said, anything Zelda-related would make me happy.
Funny thing is how people are hyping up the direct.no body is saying what Nintendo said...this direct covers the first half of 2021 so you can forget mp4,botw2.....from February to june is what this direct covers.nothing past june
Doshin 2 because your YouTube channel has made Doshin popular again.
Almost no point guessing with these. If Nintendo were to read this comments section and fulfill our wishlist then I would like the following perfectly reasonable and actually realistic games please.
Mario Galaxy 2
BoTW 2
Bayonetta 3
Wind Waker
Majora's Mask
Metroid Prime 1-4
GBA Advance Wars
Vanquish
Dishonored
Batman Arkham Asylum and City
Far Cry 4
An SSX
Street Fighter 4
All ones the switch could cope with.
Mario Kart is a tricky one. On the one hand it’s been nearly 4 years since 8 deluxe was released. But on the other hand, 8 is still a strong evergreen title. I would love to see something new with this series.
I’ve mentioned this before but I think a new Kid Icarus game would be good.
I’d love to see a Zelda collection. There may also be news regarding Sonic’s 30th anniversary.
Kingdom Hearts collection on Switch. Seems more likely now that it's just been announced for PC....
...And then Sora announced alongside it as the next Smash champion
I'm a relatively new gamer but I'd love to see some of my favorite games from the last time I gamed.
Eternal Darkness
Metroid Prime Trilogy
Shadow of the Colossus/Ico
A full-fledged NHL hockey game
BOTW 2 (obviously)
Nier Automata
Any Tekken game ported
I'm hoping to see:
As always I have moderate hopes and no expectations. As such I always have a great time. Looking forward to tonight.
All I tend to hope for is release dates.
Honestly all I want is a Dragon Quest collection, with all the games bundled together.
@Diggaloss That's all I really want from this direct, on the last boss of NMH 1 rn and it's been an absolute joy to play, cannot wait to dive into the second game soon.
Give me release dates for Shin Megami Tensei V and Nocturne, and I'm happy!
A port of xenoblade chronicles x would be nice.
Oh well, I made some big steps. From GameCube to Switch (got it today! The fugly Mario Switch looks IRL actually kinda nice...) and from Gameboy Advance to New3DS XL. That being said, I will probably take nearly everything that Nintendo could throw at me. Well, besides Splatoon because I'm not into multiplayer. I have so much Zelda and Mario to catch up with!!
And about the Smash character that Kate doesn't want to be a blue haired guy... How about a green haired girl?
I only played that GBA Fire Emblem, I admit. But I liked Lyn... Lynn... Lyn? She was pretty cool...
But I guess we will never get her because she "isn't wearing enough" for nowadays standards.
How about Persona 4 Golden and Persona 5 Royal though? For P4G I still have my Vita, but for P5R, well, the PS4 left the building and I didn't play that yet. But, oh well, at least I could have Shin Megami Tensei now.
Fall Guys is a game really well suited for the Switch.
Zelda anniversary collection
Mario golf
Metroid prime trilogy HD
Super Mario Galaxy 2
@Dragwhite Ye it is a joy to play and second game are even better. Played them on Wii and bought them day one on switch. Been waiting for a 3rd game for 10 years
It has been over 3 years since Xenoblade 2 was released (4 years since it was announced), so it would be nice to get a new game from Monolith.
First party: Mario Kart Maker + new StarFox + Pikmin 4
Third party: Rare collection + KH I&II
Remakes/ports: Ocarina+Majora's 3Ds port
That's what I'd like to see
@acNewUpdates we might get more new content for MK Tour, another Fire Emblem character for Smash, port of either Yoshi or Kirby from Wii U and more Animal Crossing news.
Doesn’t Nintendo have a separate Direct for Indies? That would be great to follow up the main Direct next month.
Zelda BotW 2 (with release date)
Zeldas HD (with release date)
Metroid Prime Trilogy HD (with release date)
Monolith new IP
Bayonetta 3
No More Heroes 3 (with release date)
Monster Hunter Stories 2
Hollow Knight Silksong (with release date)
Baldo (with release date)
That´s what I really hope to see. Is it too much?
I'm totally in for a Sports Story shadow drop today.
I'd be happy with anything given how slow its been for the Switch in a long time. Xenoblade Chronicles X really needs to happen thats for damn sure.
FF 7 R might be a bit of a stretch on the Switch haha
I'd like info on BOTW 2, a new Fire Emblem game for the horizon, plus Blaster Master Zero 3. And while I'm wishing for stuff, I want BMZ3 to bombshell launch today.
@michellelynn0976 yeah Returnal, Deathloop, outriders and hopefully kena bridge of spirits will mean there's nothing to play. Not counting the 20 games that are somehow on my PS5! It's not Sony ponies as you call them on this site. Sorry to burst your bubble, but they don't care about Nintendo, its all Sony vs Microsoft over there. Everyone on here likes Nintendo, just some of us don't think everything they do is amazing that's all! Now with the Direct, I'm hoping for kingdom battle 2, Mario Golf and the Prime trilogy.
Honestly, all I really want is fixed Joycons that don't drift. Seriously I just want improved controllers that don't need fixed or replaced after a year or two of use.
Got my Bingo card.....
https://i.redd.it/crp9ga1gquh61.png
Eternal Darkness 2 please.
Also, let's see some Breath of Fire, Wild Arms, Suikoden, Lunar, Alundra, Chrono or Lufia love! Come on, who's with me??!!
Switch Pro announced. You can thank me in 3 hours.
The only Zelda remake that I am interested in is Oracle of Ages/Season remasters.
Wouldn't mind a few 3DS ports as well.
Looking forward to the direct!
@daisygurl I have virtual learning right now hehe
@avictorao That's perfect
I'd like a new "Maker" game, maybe zelda or pokemon?
How many more hours till ND?
Ryza for Smash
Fire Emblem remake
Zelda remakes
Faxanadu II
@Cikoltan Just a bit more than two.
@dkxcalibur,
Imagine the meltdown if Nintendo had a twenty minute segment devoted to joy con drift.
I should like to see:
Metroid Prime trilogy (I’ve never played)
Any news on BotW2- I doubt it’s ready but I’d take a bone
I would love to see a Zelda collection including the games others have listed: Skyward, Twilight, Windwaker.. seriously I would preorder that in a hot second.
Seriously though I’m happy to hear just about anything- it’s been so long!
The more Ace Attorney and Star Wars games they show, the happier I’ll be.
@Cikoltan 2 hours and 11 minutes
@kategray my respect for this website has grown infinitely higher just because you mentioned a switch port of ghost trick I thought I was the only one who wanted it that is easily one of my favorite games and I play a lot of games
Edit I really liked the article by the way I liked how you kind of just threw stuff out there for like the smash picks even though we aren't getting zagreus or baby yoda lol
Golden Sun Remake/4, Golden Sun Remake/4, Golden Sun Remake/4. Manifesting it into the world.
(and a new Ace Attorney game too)
@Dizzard I tried golden sun only played a little and I already think it's really solid even by today's standards imagine it running in a world like dragon quest 11s oh that would be epic like a gaur plains kind of environment that would be epic. Or just a port this game holds up really well. By the way the best ace attorney game to me is ghost trick even though it's not one it's just that good get it on your ds if you can it's phenomenal and probably the most under appreciated game I've played
@Ghostchip I am NL's resident Ghost Trick megafan. I will plead for a remake (or sequel) of this game until I die!
@KateGray ghost trick and the ds smt games deserve a life on switch I know they aren't big big games but they are true masterpieces strange journey redux and smt devil survivor overclocked ports would be amazing! Although tbh I'm not sure why we don't have smt in us nso I mean there is an official english translation yet it's only in japanese nso. I think I just love the ds a little too much so much creativity in a pocket!
I just want a Silksong release date and anything else is a bonus.
What would be cool would be the announcement of a subscription service like gamepass or PSnow on Switch, these allow me to play a lot more games and also try out ones I wouldn't risk spending money on.
The thing that would really p**s me off tonight is if they anounce the 3d alstars games coming out in a different package or being sold separately - I literally only bought that for FOMO and hoping it increases in value, 64 really hasn't held up well and I've always hated sunshine. Galaxy is ok but not a game I would have bought if it wasn't a limited time item.
@johnvboy Ha, ha, absolutely!
They don't need to mention it.....just say we've improved the original joycon to be more durable with improved accuracy.
"We know the F-Zero fans are probably reading this and hoping to be noticed - we see you!". I really hope you don't see me as I'm reading this line or you might be scarred for life.
I hope we get to see a new Mario Strikers.. since Next Level Games is first party now, and the World Cup is next year
Guessing we'll get some but not all of the below anniversary franchises in the direct, whether they be ports from other consoles, remakes/remasters/rereleases of old games, or brand new entries in the franchises:
40th Anniversary:
Donkey Kong
Mario (not Super Mario)
35th Anniversary:
The Legend of Zelda
Dragon Quest
Metroid
Castlevania
30th Anniversary:
Sonic the Hedgehog
Puyo Puyo
Fatal Fury
Shining
Mana
25th Anniversary:
Pokémon
Crash Bandicoot
Super Mario RPG
Persona
Star Ocean
20th Anniversary:
Golden Sun
Animal Crossing
Pikmin
Luigi's Mansion
15th Anniversary:
Brain Age
Wii
Mii-Tomo
Electroplankton
Rhythm Heaven
10th Anniversary:
Minecraft
Swapnote
Pushmo
Steel Diver
5th Anniversary:
Overwatch
As far as 3rd Party goes, mostly just want a solid date for Capcom Arcade Stadium.
I have low expectations and just expect to see Metroid Prime 4, Botw2, Wave Race, Pilotwings, MK9, Metroid Prime Trilogy, F-Zero and a couple of AAA surprises! 🙊
@kategray will Nlife be streaming it?
I would like to see Fall Guys Ultimate Knockout on Nintendo Switch as Among Us has already made the jump (a popular game in the pandemic) so why not this one?
Most of the stuff they mentioned I completely disagree with. Like there is no way they are going to include any Legend of Zelda stuff becuause they are probaly going to make a 35 anniversary direct just for Legend of Zelda stuff. Also Retro studios is making Metroid Prime 4 not another Tropical Freeze, Mario Kart 8 is selling to well for Nintendo to release another one yet. If there will be anything about Bayonetta 3 it at most will a cinematic trailer and the same goes for Metroid Prime 4 and finally the 3rd party stuff they mentioned will sadly not ever come to switch. Like Cyberpunk 2077 will never be able to run on switch just look at the ps4 and xbox version. Persona 5 is under some sort of exclusivity deal with sony and if there was not it would at least be on PC with Person 4 and the only way I could see FF7 Remake coming to switch is from the cloud. The stuff we will definetily see is Bravely Defualt 2, No More Hero's 3, a new Smash character and maby Metroid Prime Trilogy.
I hope Capcom Arcade Stadium will be available directly after the presentation. I already bought a eShop card.
Also, i really hope they'll show either a new F-Zero or a home port of Cruisn'Blast.
@RupeeClock I'm hoping for hardware, largely given the rumor that it was really supposed to happen this past December/November but was delayed. And the way they dropped Switch Lite was kind of random like that as well. They'd see what we call Pro" as "Switch Pocket' or "New Switch" or something not advertising power, just the updated form factor and appearance.
then again, having just gotten through preorders for the other two consoles, I don't want to have to go through that Nintendo-style again. But that screen really needs an update. It's pretty mediocre today. And scaling for 4k tvs is becoming increasingly meaningful.
Mario Sports games need to be more plentiful on the Switch. The only Mario Sports game we got was Mario Tennis Aces. Where the hell is Golf, Baseball, Strikers, or even Hoops? What about another sports collection just like Mario Sports Mix or Superstars? We haven't gotten anything else besides Aces.
I think the sport I'd like to see come back the most is Strikers. It's just so intense and hard-hitting in comparison to all the other sports. Mario Hoops has gotten no attention in about 15 years now. I honestly don't care what sport it is; we simply need more sports Mario games on the Switch.
-Shantae Smash reveal, Ring Fit Adventurer confirmed for next slot
-New Mario Baseball game that carries over all previous players and adds new characters that have cropped up since then
-Yarn Donkey Kong Country
-New Pokemon Snap will probably get some play
-Expecting Animal Crossing/Ring Fit Adventure updates
-Fire Emblem Echoes. I'd love a Sacred Stones remake most of all, but Genealogy would do.
-GBA online, with freshly translated Mother 3 and Fire Emblem Binding Blade as incentives
-Zelda and Metroid directs slated for later in the year
All I want is smt
Sequel to Unirally. That's is all. Unirally unicycle will be the new fighter and the rest of the direct will focus on the sequel.
I almost forgot, we could be getting the Great Ace Attorney 1&2 soon!
@NEStalgia,
A revision would be nice, not sure they have ever dropped new hardware during a software direct though, pretty sure it would be in a individual presentation, although these are not normal times.
@NGNYS huh, yeah... I'd forgotten about Scalebound. As have the developers, I imagine
We’re getting DLC botw 2 in 2022 with a new console makes much more sense seeing how the FPS was on the age of calamity.
Xenoblade Chronicles X Remaster!!! ....I also want a new Baten Kaitos and also Golden Sun game!
If they announce something good, I don't know how good my waiting skills are after a year of pandemic delays.
if they show indie games, id love to see omori on there- i know it is supposed to come out some time later since it just came out on steam;;; but any earthbound or mother content would be so cool. like the mother hobonichi project but for other countries
Hmmm well only expecting something Zelda related , and for the rest I will let them surprise me. Suspect we get stuff from capcom , sega/atlus , Square , Koei , Bandai en Ubisoft tonight
And suspect they go for first party for the smash character
I'm hoping for some BIG zelda news AND something awesome released today (hopefully for free). I would be so happy if they do something new with Zelda 1 and Zelda 2.
I just want to see the release date for Monster Hunter Stories 2
Looks like fans if Mario sports games will be happy today.
Castlevania Collection 2 with the Iga games.
Bub & Bob (or Space Invader) in Smash Bros.
3DS Card Adapter for Switch.
NES or Game Boy themed Switch & Switch Lite.
Honestly, I’d settle for redesigned joycons that didn’t have issues (or existing joycons massively reduced in price). Anything that allows me to play my Switch.
After that, pretty much anything Mario - Kart, Odyssey, Galaxy 2. I’ve given up on hoping for a Wave Race or 1080
1. Metroid
2. Metroid
3. Metroid
4. Literally just an acknowledgement that Metroid exists and will be 35......
Monolith soft zelda spin off rpg!
I’ve given up on hoping for a Wave Race or 1080
@Bondi_Surfer Take heart, fellow wave-rider! We are growing ever more vocal! My good energy comes down to you, from the north!
Prepare to be disappointed....
So faor the Direct has been utter crap, and I think it's nearly finished.
PS. That first party Mario Golf game looks sooo generic and shopped-in that it's actually embarrassing.
Disappointed about lack of Silksong. Mario Golf and Ninja Gaiden collection look decent. Mediocre to me.
Well that was boring. Not a single game I'm interested in - perhaps Mario Golf if (and ONLY if) it's on budget (it wont be)
All in all, pretty underwhelming direct. The Square Enix remakes, Zelda remake, and Splat 3 are all cool but no Metroid news and nothing really surprising... starting with Xeno and having it be just a smash character was disappointing.
Skyward Sword and Legend of Mana are the standouts, other than that it was a waste of a Nintendo Direct. 3/10
Lol. That was so not worth it. The tactical RPG from square was the only announcement that looked good. No More Heroes looked bad and so many games in general looked really dated graphically.
The direct as a whole was embarrassing
@ecco6t9 : Unfortunately for me, Skyward Sword was my least favorite Zelda, made only slightly interesting by the slight-twist ending. Not interested in playing it again.
Legend Of Mana - maybe if its cheap. I never got far with it on playstation.
Waited over a year for that.....
Had low expectations and still disappointed. See you guys in 2022.
Star Wars Hunters is the only new announcement that was welcome. Skyward Sword is not the Zelda game I was hoping for. Where's Twilight Princess and / or Wind Waker???
I wasn't expecting much and I'm still dissapointed.
EDIT: the new Square Enix RPG does look nice, but it's far from getting released.
@Clammy agree. Was a bit boring. And the character art was horrible 🤢
After watching this my first thought was have Nintendo's first party developer stopped making games, hopefully the shadow drops will continue, can't believe it's been more than a year for a proper direct and we basically get a third party and indie showcase reel.
I previously posted a Mario Golf game would suffice for the direct to be o.k for me, did not know this was going to end up being true, guess the pandemic has been a lot tougher than we thought for Nintendo, and of course the Switch will still sell tonnes of hardware again this year, it has too much momentum for that to slow down anytime soon.
I wanted Tomodachi Life/Miitopia/Style Boutique/Nintendogs out of Nintendo's casual IP, and I'm happy that we got at least one of them. Dare I say that I prefer Miitopia overall, but I would love to have seen a crossover between that and Tomodachi Life, as overlap between the two concepts would be so much more satisfying overall.
I played the hell out of Miitopia on 3DS and I'll play the hell out of it again in pretty, pretty HD. Can't wait! I hope amiibo costumes make a comeback (in addition to some new ones as well). Amiibo support is always appreciated.
And the Skyward Sword Joy-Con are stunning.
That’s was piss poor Nintendo.
I’m gonna send out a search party for your in house game studios, I hope they are all ok.
That was the worst game presentational I have every seen and I’ve seen them all.
I have no other words apart from pathetic and thank you for wasting 50 minutes of my life.
A skyward sword looked so old and dated.
Oh well just me and the PS5 now.
I liked Skyward Sword so I'm in the minority there but rest of this direct did not appeal to me at all.
I am excited for the Mario items for Animal Crossing tho
Seriously, what has happened to Bayonetta 3!? It's getting bizarre now. It surely can't take this long to make an action game like that. Where are the Nintendo first party games? They've been releasing port after port after port, I don't understand what they've been doing since the first year of the switch release games.
Skyward Sword is pretty nice.
Fall guys, PVZ Battle for the Neighborville, Ninja Gaiden are also great.
I personally liked it.
PVZ BFTN is a sign guys. It is a sign that Frostbite Engine is RUNNING on Nintendo Switch. Meaning. We might get a PROPER FIFA game this time
When I first heard that no Zelda news now, I was upset and then they showed Skyword Sword and now I am like YAY
A couple of interesting bits like mario golf, project triangle, Ninja gaiden etc but no Metroind prime collection/4 news, no Bayo 3 news and nothing Zelda 35th anniversary. Skyward sword looks as wooden today as it did back then and NMH3 looks atrocious. My wallet can breath a sigh of relief whilst my heart continues to cry.
@Kidfunkadelic83 well maybe wait for 2/21/21
@anoyonmus we can only hope
This direct is pretty good imo. I never expected some of these games.
I never believed that PVZ is coming to switch and it is
A good mix of first party announcements, third party announcements and some surprises. Nothing on Metroid and very little on Zelda. Mario Golf looks awesome. Wanted more about the Nintendo Switch Online service and new things for that. Overall, I'd give it a B.
@anoyonmus
That’s a Sunday, nothing will be announced on that day.
@Don u never know
You were right we got fall guys.
@BabyYoda71 YEEEEEEEESS!!! It was announced! So excited haha
that was the most disappointing event since the birth of my son
@Beolleika My favourite announcement of the entire direct! So excited for Summer....
