Update #2: SNK vs. Capcom: Match of the Millenium is available to download from the eShop now, and you can watch the lovely launch trailer above.
Update #1 [Fri 5th Feb, 2021 08:20 GMT]: Last month, SNK vs. Capcom: Match of the Millenium was rated for the Switch by the South Korean ratings board.
It was only a matter of time until the game was officially confirmed, and it seems today is that day. SNK has just announced the Neo Geo Pocket Color version of the popular fighting crossover will be coming to the Switch eShop on 17th February.
This 1999 release starts out with 18 fighters to select from, and there's an additional eight characters to unlock. In terms of modes, there's single, tag and team battle.
You'll also be able to "play VS Mode battles and exchange various data" and in addition to this, there's a "new" SC Olympic Mode where you can strive to break all records.
Will you be joining the fight when this pocket-sized version of SNK vs. Capcom arrives on the Switch eShop? Tell us below.
Original Story [Fri 22nd Jan, 2021 10:00 GMT]: Back in the '90s, the sheer notion of Capcom and SNK working together was as unlikely as Sega and Nintendo putting down their weapons and making friends (like that would ever happen, right?!). So, when these two fighting game greats announced a series of crossover games at the close of the decade, it caused quite a stir.
We got Capcom vs. SNK: Millennium Fight 2000 on the Dreamcast, alongside SNK vs. Capcom: Card Fighter's Clash on the Neo Geo Pocket Color. Alongside that, we also got SNK vs. Capcom: Match of the Millennium on SNK's handheld – arguably one of the best portable one-on-one fighters ever made. This collaboration would also give us Capcom vs. SNK 2 on Dreamcast (later ported to the PS2, GameCube and Xbox) and SNK vs. Capcom Choas on Neo Geo, as well as the rather disappointing SNK vs. Capcom Card Fighters DS a short time later.
As the name of this sub-series suggests, each game boasted characters from the respective franchises owned by these two Japanese giants. So Street Fighter's cast clashed with the stars of King of Fighters – that kind of thing. Match of the Millennium took things to the next level and even included the likes of Arthur from Ghosts 'n Goblins in his very own mini-game. Interestingly, the Neo Geo Pocket Color title could connect to the Dreamcast Capcom vs. SNK via a special link cable, allowing you to unlock characters by earning points when playing on the move.
According to the South Korean ratings board, SNK vs. Capcom: Match of the Millennium is headed to the Switch. The game has recently been rated for release in that region – a pretty solid indication that a game is inbound. This will presumably be part of SNK's current drive to release several of its most notable Neo Geo Pocket Color titles on Switch; we've already had SNK Gals' Fighters, Samurai Shodown II, The Last Blade: Beyond the Destiny and Fatal Fury First Contact.
What makes this new release notable is that it's an indication that SNK and Capcom are willing to work together again. While SNK developed and published this particular game, it contains Capcom's IP so we'd assume a fresh agreement had to be signed for this re-release to take place.
Could we potentially see other titles in the Capcom vs. SNK series released on modern platforms? Or perhaps the two companies are working on a brand-new crossover release?
Thanks to Greatsong for the tip!

Not the one I wanted but I take it! Just skipped through a longplay and it looks and feels great.
Also hoping it is an indicator for "bigger" releases.
I just want Capcom vs. SNK 2 EO from the GameCube on the Switch.
Ooooooohhh yeeeeeah! This is true love we're makin', this is true love we're makin', this is true love we're making ALL THE TIME!!!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2-_unC-g_rY
I got excited thinking this was a port of one of the Dreamcast games, oh well
We really need a new game in this series. It would be so, so good.
I love fighting games I'm so going to buy this.
@AJDarkstar I'd love Marvel VS Capcom 2 on Switch, that game was a blast!
What?! This would be phenominal if we get this in the west! It may not be the one people want the most but I'll definitely throw money at it just to get more, which is how this stuff works y'know. SNK really did a great job converting the characters over. Though, with the square screen on the NGPC things sometimes felt a little cramped.
Widescreen suporte, and we have a instant buy
That's unexpected and awesome. One of the few Neo Geo Pocket games I kept.. still really fun to pick up and play from time to time.
I used to play it on the PS1, amazing crossover! And I recently played EO on GameCube, it's even better!
If this means we're also getting SNK Vs Capcom 2 as well then I am down for this.
I would rather have the Neo Geo version over the pocket version as if I am correct that is one of the few Neo Geo SNK fighters never to be released digitally and outside of the PS2 and Xbox ports it hasn't seen the light of day on any system since.
I would definitely re-buy this.
I'll take it anyway I can get it. Bring on the others.
Hopefully we get a Cardfighter’s Clash on Switch! Still my favorite of that genre!
Cool, but I've already got the second game on GameCube, so I'm good.
I would so get this.
The problem with these crossovers is the balancing. The Capcom characters were overpowered because they had less frames in their animations so their moves were faster compared to SNk characters.
I'll stick with ultamie terry. But 8 bit kirkington sound nice
Sniff this hurts more than it makes me happy. I wish SNK would do a collection. I pretty much keep a gamecube so I can play 2.
Edit: I am still buying this no matter what and I do appreciate the re-release.
Yes. This is exactly what I wanted the moment they started releasing Neo Geo Pocket Color games on Switch, Capcom collaborations. Now I'm pretty sure we'll get Card Fighters too.
This is so exciting. Definite day one buy. 2021 is looking good!
I'm dreaming about Vs. Marvel, of course.
I love this game, play a lot 20 years ago on Neo Geo Pocket Emulator
I'd rather have Project X Zone.
The first game for Dreamcast is one of my favorite fighting games of all time. Those hand drawn backgrounds were to die for and the music was fantastic. 2 is okay, but I did not dig the 3D backgrounds.
Well, well, well. An entry in the Capcom vs. SNK series in the same art style as Pocket Rumble? Where do I sign?
Oh. Another pocket game, awesome. I thought it was a new entry. But then why would that come to the switch.
I read the whole article but still somehow missed what is coming to Switch.
@BoyfriendOfDeath You alright?
This one I feel had a better roster than the Capcom one on the Sega Dreamcast, that is if you don't count Capcom vs. SNK 2. The one on Dreamcast was basically just Street Fighter vs. King of Fighters.
It's nice and all but, really, the best one is Capcom vs SNK 2.
In my opinion it still is one of the best fighting games of all time.
Fingers crossed it will also be ported in the future.
@WhiteTrashGuy 100% agreed. The first one had such an awesome style, I particularly loved the stage intros. That game is the only reason I keep my Dreamcast around. The headline got me all exciting thinking it was getting ported to Switch, something I've been waiting forever. Sadly that's not the case.
Yess!!! Now only if the Switch had a proper controller to play this with...
Can Hamster Neo Geo release SNK vs Capcom SVC Chaos please!
I’m still waiting for Sonic Pocket Adventure. (For historical purposes)
Card Fighters next!
As long as everything is update I am game to Collect this game from my time when Arcades was the place to go.
@nab1
I will still hold out hope. Have been for years. It seems most people like 2 better. I have 2 on GCN, and I do like it, but that first game.... And the intros, like you were saying, just nothing else like it.
I wish SNK would do a collection. I pretty much keep a gamecube so I can play 2.
@Ryu_Niiyama Based on our prior conversations, which I quite appreciated, I would have believed that you were the steely-eyed, logical, practically unsentimental type who would not make statements like this. (Not that I blame you for making them, of course.)
It's just... I keep my GameCube near at hand primarily to play F-Zero and Wave Race, which are different enough from classic fighting games, but crunchy and replayable in the same way. Aaaand I await new iterations breathlessly, or even just re-releases. So... we think differently, but the same, I guess. Ah well...
@Vince_Foxxy Same. I spent a lot of time on that back in the day; never say never though right?
I completely forgot about Capcom vs SNK 2. I'll have to keep an eye out for it as it'll look good sitting right next to my copy of Marvel vs Capcom 2!
I've not played any Capcom vs SNK game, so I'd love to see one come to the Switch. In fact, I've not played any SNK game outside of Samurai Shodown on Sega Genesis way back in the day. I've got some catching up to do lol
@Lanmanna Guess you never heard of Capcom vs SNK's best song.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2-_unC-g_rY
Throws money at screen
Oh that's pretty cool, but Capcom Vs SnK 2 would be da bomb as the kids say.
YEEESSSSSS very excited for this, as I don't have this title on any other system. Great Friday news.
@COVIDberry haha! I have a wishlist like every other gamer, but I try to be as practical as possible. Hence the gamecube.
I don’t like to spaghetti toss out franchise hopes however. I felt my comment was somewhat appropriate as fighting games that are not solely owned rarely get a re-release and even then it is limited due to licensing. So, I am not holding my breath that we get more out of the series.
I likely should have also mentioned that I will be buying this re-release day 1. So it wasn’t intended as the complaint it came off as. I only get unreasonable about Virtua Fighter. Even my street fighter complaints are when Nintendo owners get snubbed rather than wishlist.
I think the difference is I try to accept dead franchises and the business decisions behind them. Like, don’t get me wrong if a new F-Zero gets announced, I will celebrate with you. I just keep my old games and systems because I know I have a better chance of winning the lottery.
I think that I might pick this up... If it was Capcom vs. SNK 2 then there would be nothing to think about 💯 (I even liked the controls on the Gamecube).
I hope it's happening and I hope it's this one, not the card battle game. I have this on my Neo Geo Pocket Color, but it can be pretty hard to see.
@sixrings I want that too. I don't care if it's unbalanced. I just want Chun-Li's fireball to go all the way. I'd prefer a port where all the characters are playable.
@Clyde_Radcliffe
It really is a blast, despite being one of the most unbalanced fighting games ever released.
I love watching the online tournaments for the game. I mained Sentinel, Magneto, and Dr. Doom when I played but the pros are on a whole different level.
@Dethmunk I 2nd that motion!
This will serve my new HitBox controller well!
NINJA APPROVED
@WhiteTrashGuy The 3D backgrounds in part two were not appealing to me either. I thought Capcom's 3D backgrounds around that time were too distracting and took away from the action.
Um, cool. I guess. But I’d much rather have the arcade games. Even the unfairly maligned SCV Chaos.
@sixrings I will try talk to they.
I'd kill for Marvel VS Capcom 2 for Switch...
Awesome, i guess this is also an indication that releases of CvS 1&2 and SvC are at least possible.
Capcom VS SNK 2, Street Fighter Alpha 3 (PsP version) and Marvel VS Capcom 2. That's what I want.
Game gets confirmed two weeks after it leaks.
Nintendolife: ‘it’s finally happening’.
@Gus_Campos Id love to see Alpha 3 psp, and Tekken 5 psp get modern ports. Spent hundreds of hours on both.
@Ghost_of_Hasashi and what did you want? baseball stars VS resident evil ? it's a beat em up and take the chars from beat em ups
@Zanzox You probably didn't understood the meaning of my comment. I was was refering to how this version had a better roster than the Dreamcast one cause it didn't just include only Street Fighter and KOF characters.
In the Dreamcast version's first edition, all the characters are basically from SFII and KOF which makes the roster feel a lacking considering the title refer that it'll be a fighting game with characters representing both side so you expect at least a few non-SF and non-KOF characters from both.
In this one we got characters from other games as well like Arthur from Ghosts 'n Goblins, Felicia and Morrigan from Darkstalkers, Akari from Last Blade, Nakoruru and Haohmaru from Samurai Shodown, and Leona Heiden who wasn't even playable in the Capcom versions. The Capcom versions didn't had a good roster until the second game when characters from Garou: Mark of the Wolves, Last Blade, Darkstalkers, Samurai Shodown, Final Fight, and Rival Schools finally made the list.
@Onion Snk vs Capcom 2 doesn't exist..
Cmon capcom, give us marvel vs capcom 2
Nope, didn't want this at all. Give us the real one. These overpriced ports are already dull.
@superguy123 it will come later as a pack of the new arcade series.
@Vince_Foxxy I actually put this on my arcade1up in my basement, crazy I never played it before.
Finally we can find out who is better: Chun-Li or Mai Shiranui.
Crapcom Vs StiNK 2: Fart of the Millennium. "Ha! Doo Doo, Ken!". All kidding aside, this was a pretty awesome game back in the day.
@sixrings yeah I feel like SVC Chaos has been lost to history somewhat. I actually googled it the other day to check it actually existed and wasn't just some vague fake memory.
I'd definitely pick it up on Switch if the price was reasonable. I remember it being pretty decent.
My God. I read so often about this. It is a Neo Geo "Pocket" emulation. How much more boring can it get? It's like playing the Gameboy version of Street Fighter 2 on a PS5.
Are people really paying for this?
Yuck. What is that some old SNK handheld version?
No thanks.
I got a little too excited thinking this would be SvC Chaos lol
Sounds fun. Don't think we've had one since the Wii
Pass. I would love capcom vs snk 2 from the dreamcast/gamecube days
@Slowdive I saw the headline and thought- just for a moment- that it was that game. I am disappoint.
@Gus_Campos That would be incredible. I might just buy this version in the hopes that would prove a case for demand, so they would release CVS2. Alpha 3 Max is brilliant, I am less hopeful that would be released, I think Sony has some rights to it.
Heart skipped a beat for a moment there.
its the Neo Geo Pocket Color version. Pass.
If you want the chance to see whatever version of Capcom vs SNK or SNK vs Capcom Chaos show up on Switch, then do your part and buy Match of the Millenium ASAP!
Don't wait until later, don't wait for a sale, they (Capcom) need to see sales right the heck now!
Don't believe me? Look at what happened to Darkstalkers 4. What Darkstalkers 4? Exactly! We had a chance and we blew it as a community for not buying enough of Darkstalkers Resurrection. Don't let this chance go by! I believe we can make a difference, but only if we act now!
@readyletsgo ^^
The only thing this has in common with the Dreamcast release is it’s ability to connect to the Dreamcast to unlock characters it is not capcom vs SNK it’s SNK vs capcom a totally different game and for a handheld fighter of its time it’s rather excellent not sure I wanna play it on switch though
@masterLEON Buying it today!
@PhilKenSebben Thank you, sir!
Ok I’m disappointed. I thought this was going to be the home console port or arcade. Instead it’s the NGPC.
Well, since I sold my NGPC a while ago, it's time to break out my emulator again and play!
@masterLEON No need to thank me. Buying a re-release of one of the best handheld fighters ever, for only $8 is a no brainer.
@Slowdive I had the Japanese version of the game for Dreamcast (it actually had a mod chip before using boot discs was a thing). I think the Japanese version even played in English.
Sadly it took a dive off a desk and got a chip in the disc and was never playable again. $75 down the drain (it cost that much because this was early 2000's and importing games wasn't as accessible as today).
Downloading right now
I have been refreshing the eShop non stop for days trying to get this bad boy. Can't wait to play it!
This brings me back. I have fond memories with the Neo Geo Pocket and this was one the games that I played to completion. It worked surprisingly well as a fighting game on a handheld because of that joystick. It made performing combos and moves a lot more easier.
Will be picking this one up.
@Robzilla There are some good fighting pads and sticks for Switch if that's what you're after. If you mean the Joycon and Pro Controller aren't great for fighting games then you're very correct, lol.
@Nintendo4Sonic Yeah but the truth is this game is not a port of any version, it's an actual NeoGeo Pocket Color exclusive and it feature characters and stages that never appeared in the arcade and console versions like Felicia, Billy Kane, Akari, Orochi Iori, Arthur, Rimururu, Karin Kanzuki, Leona Heiden, Jubei Yagyu, and B.B. Hood. It also had its own modes of play like Story, Tag, Team up Battle, and Olympic. Something the console editions are heavily missing. The only thing wrong here is that it's on the Switch cause the original was a joy to play using clicky stick on the NGPC, without the clicky stick this game feels barebone here but it is still a fun little game with multiple endings and contents.
Oh, this is the Neo Geo Pocket release? I almost thought we were getting one of the Dreamcast releases, but I mixed up the titles because they both have Millenium in the title.
For those that like this, though

Got it. And the complete Capcom Arcade Stadium bundle. Didn't see that one coming, eh wallet?
@Slowdive After getting this in Jan 2000 and then the DC version in Nov 2000, I actually ended up enjoying the NGPC version more.
Capcom Vs SNK 2 however, blows them both away in fun and total playtime (10k+ online matches on XBlive 2003-2006) for me.
Now HORI or SNK, make some custom NGPC style clickly stick joycons and pro pads.
