Re: The Sonic Movie is Now Being Produced by Paramount

LArachelDisciple

I'll just put something positive here,, since no one else wants to.

I'm hyped to see what they do. Sonic has built up a lot of great lore over the years and anything could happen in this movie! I'd love to see something that marries the two sides of Sonic: The retro side that I don't like but everyone else adores, and the Adventure Era between Sonic Adventure one and Sonic Rush Adventure.

We'll just have to wait and see what the trailer has for us. I'm hoping Rouge or Blaze can make the cut, even though I don't see it happening.

Re: Nintendo Outlines Season Pass Details for Fire Emblem Warriors

LArachelDisciple

I remember when Zelda did this and I was bummed that they had nothing from Oracle of Seasons, and now this will bum we out with its lack of Sacred Stones. But I still think that Fire Emblem Warriors has a great line-up so far, and I'm excited to see if my favorites from Awakening and Fates get in.

Of course, I was thoroughly underwhelmed by Blazing Sword and never played the Ike games, so I can't get my official "real Fire Emblem Strategy Fan" badge because I don't like the right games.

I learned to stop expecting franchises to go the way I want them to when Paper Mario broke my heart, so I'll take what they give me.

Re: SEGA Knows Fans Want Sonic Adventure 3

LArachelDisciple

I must have the greatest copies of the Sonic Adventure games ever made, because I've never once had any trouble with glitches and only occasional camera problems. The only things I think have aged poorly are the voicework and the facial animations. I loved the Chao Garden, loved the Sonic/Shadow stages, loved the Tails/Eggman stages, and managed to enjoy the Knuckles/Rouge stages despite their inherent flaws. The Adventure games got me into Sonic and I honestly prefer them to the classic games.

But the fanbase has spoken. Sonic Mania is our true savoir, and no Adventure revival will sway them. In a sense, Sonic Adventure 3 would be a "step back" considering how far they've drifted from that formula. Could they even pull it off?

Re: Feature: What We Expect from the Nintendo Direct - 13th September

LArachelDisciple

The good thing about this direct is that Nintendo has covered its bases this year. I'm out of things to reasonably expect, so anything new will surprise me. But I can still make unreasonable demands!

-Drill Dozer 2 with Jill amiibo
-New Custom Robo with Ray amiibo
-Paper Mario TTYD + Paper Luigi and the Marvelous Compass with Partner Amiibo set

Re: Nintendo Is Resurrecting The NES Classic Mini And Increasing SNES Classic Inventory

LArachelDisciple

@XCWarrior Okay, you're right. It's good if you don't already have these games. I guess what I was saying is that the package has nothing to offer to me but the plastic shell. I have all the games I'm interested in, so it's that much money for backup copies to me.

I'd also just prefer the original console to a collector's item. But you're right, I was out of line and I'm sorry.

Re: Nintendo Is Resurrecting The NES Classic Mini And Increasing SNES Classic Inventory

LArachelDisciple

I can't wrap my head around the appeal of "Classic Minis." They just seem like overpriced products. But I don't really have any nostalgic loyalty to physical consoles anyway. I'll play the games on my Wii U, thanks.

It is interesting to see that Nintendo's strategy for making their market friendlier to third parties is to remove their own games from the equation. It's so weird.

Re: Poll: Six Months of the Switch - What Do You Think of Nintendo's Console Hybrid?

LArachelDisciple

There are several games I enjoy on the Switch, though I'm hearing that many of them debuted on Playstation or Ouya already. The games unique to Switch haven't drawn me in just yet (It's rare that I enjoy a Zelda game, and BOTW is no exception. I l ike linear games.) I don't see Stupid Mario Hat: Mind over Mutant winning me over, either. I'm looking forward to Fire Emblem Warriors and Xenoblade Chronicles 2 this year, though.

The hybrid nature of the console doesn't do it for me. The Switch feels barren in features compared to both the Wii U and 3DS. Wake me up when it starts having themes, the Badge Arcade, or Miis running around holding up game titles. The interface is boring. I have to see is thing every time I boot it up, so make it less dull.

Despite my complaints, the Switch is still a good handheld and passable console. I tend to see it as a handheld clumsily trying to be a console so Nintendo doesn't have to admit that they're leaning on their portable market to prop their console market back up.

"Why are your home consoles so behind the times, Nintendo?"

"Well, that depends. What is a home console? Have we ever defined what a home console is? Maybe our awesome portables are actually home consoles. From that perspective, we do very well."

Re: Two More Characters Are Confirmed For Fire Emblem Warriors

LArachelDisciple

I'm looking forward to teaming Lissa and Elise up. They almost look related, anyway.

At least I can't accuse them of not being thorough. I was worried we wouldn't get Leo and Hinoka before they were announced, so it's good that everyone will have their favorite sibling.

I'd love to see some love for Shadows of Valentia and Sacred Stones, but I was told not to expect them, so I don't. It's tough when your favorites aren't successful or the cult classics.

Re: Fire Emblem Echoes Developers on How the Game Iterates on Fire Emblem Fates

LArachelDisciple

It's weird to see how many people here prefer low-magic settings in a franchise where people sling darkness at one another. I've played Sacred Stones, Awakening, two of the Fates storylines, and Valentia. The supporting characters in these games are all more engaging than the protagonist, so I also raise an eyebrow at how boring people find Corrin. I didn't find him/her to be an outlier in that regard.
I'm hyped for the Switch game. I wonder what they left out of Valentia?

Re: Video: Get a Good Look at Infinite, the New Villain in Sonic Forces

LArachelDisciple

Sonic Forces isn't looking especially appealing yet, but I'm more interested in this than Sonic Mania. There's some intrigue here about whether there will be a twist with Infinite or if he's really just a new character. I also want to see what Chaos is doing here. Sonic Mania just looks bland and narrative-free: I saw what New Super Mario Bros. did to Mario and I won't support it with Sonic.

Re: Miyamoto Was Worried How Players Would React To Mario Odyssey's New Donk City

LArachelDisciple

He takes issue with new characters, which is why this game introduces a marriage agency full of new characters. And a ghost thing that wears Mario's hat. Makes perfect sense. Is the backlash to your Paper Mario demands still fresh on your mind, Miyamoto?

I like New Donk City just fine and would like the location to be fleshed out like Isle Delfino was as the location of the full game. Also neat to see Pauline, though there were other characters I would have rather seen get the boost. (None of whom were created by Miyamoto, so it won't happen.)

What doesn't feel like Mario is the hat mechanic. I see Mario spin dash around like Sonic and possess enemies like Crash in Mind Over Mutant and I wonder who it is I'm playing. I'm just not feeling this game. I'm getting Superstar Saga this holiday season instead.

Re: Feature: The (Sadly Fictional) Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo Switch Fighter Ballot - Results!

LArachelDisciple

Wow, the Krystal hate is real on this sight. I didn't know she was so unpopular. I haven't seen so much bashing since Waluigi's introduction.

I'm happy to see Shantae make the list. She's an indie character who actually has a solid history of games. Also happy for K. Rool and Inkling. My biggest gripe is Sora: I like him just fine, but any appearance from Kingdom Hearts would feel empty to me without Donald and Goofy, who aren't allowed in Smash.

Re: Random: Atari Is Working On Its First Home Console Since The Ill-Fated Jaguar

LArachelDisciple

This news had made me look into Atari to see what their library is. I'm pleasantly surprised to see that Wayforward reimagined Centipede for the Wii and I'm now planning to get that.

Outside of that, I see Crystal Castles, Yar's Revenge, Swordquest, Cybermorph, Fight for Life, Club Drive, and River Raid as properties that could potentially be revamped for a new audience. Nostalgia would be niche, but it could work if the reinvention is exciting.

Re: Poll: What Did You Think of Nintendo at E3 2017?

LArachelDisciple

Nintendo did just about everything that they could of done, and I'm happy about them. What the presentation needed was a demonstration of Sonic Forces, a look at Dragon Quest X & XI, and an indie sizzle reel. Basically everything Nintendo wasn't directly involved in.

Re: Poll: What Did You Think of Nintendo's Big Switch and 3DS Reveals at E3 on Day One?

LArachelDisciple

I'm stoked to play the remastered Superstar Saga and the new Kirby. The new Yoshi looks a bit too standard, honestly. The only amiibo I must have is Tiki, though I hope the roster in Fire Emblem Heroes is much bigger than they're showing. Xenoblade 2 surprised me with how interested I was, while Super Mario Odyssey continues to turn me off with its hat gimmick. Mayor Pauline does have me intrigued, though. I just wish that I knew what the heck is even going on in Sonic Forces. Why are Chaos and Shadow evil again?

Overall, this was a strong list of games and I'm excited for the future.
