Re: Poll: Are You Optimistic for Nintendo's 2017?

@TTGlider I agree that Twilight Princess didn't need a third release, but we got a cool amiibo out of it. While Mario Power Tennis on the Gamecube was underwhelming, it at least had more characters than Mario Tennis Ultra Smash on the Wii U. Maybe the Switch will finally provide a tennis game that blows us away!

@JaxonH I want to say that the emotional investment is a point in their favor, as if they possess qualities that make them worth getting worked up over. I kind of agree with you about just playing something and enjoying it, since Nintendo still has a cartoon charm to it that only Sega at its peak has ever matched for me, but I'd also really like to hear some positive buzz around those games that I enjoy. I haven't gotten that in a while. I just want Nintendo to improve on its weak points instead of only trying to sell its strengths. I'm so sick of hearing how lousy my console's power is and how there are no "major" releases on it even as I keep finding something new to play on it.

Re: Newzoo Estimates Less Than Five Percent of Users Have Paid For Super Mario Run

@MrGawain I'm always afraid that this will happen every time a franchise I like takes a creative direction I don't care for. How do I communicate that it isn't Mario that I'm avoiding, but instead the new spin on it that Nintendo thinks is more terribly clever than I do? I'd like a Mario phone game that gives the characters unique abilities instead of moving them around for me.

Re: Rumour: Mother 3 Will Be Unveiled for the Switch VC at the Switch Reveal Next Week

Quirky Depression RPG comes to America! I might pick it up just so I don't feel bad about letting the release sink later. I can't see it selling well, since the franchise is basically built on love-it/hate-it quirkiness. It would be wild if this and Beginnings were leading up to a new game though, wouldn't it?

Personally, I had trouble playing Earthbound due to the archaic menu system. I'm afraid to play Earthbound Beginnings because it is even older, and I couldn't get the hang of Mother 3's background music combo system. The whole series vexes me.

I must be the only one who voted for mobile games. It's at 0% right now. I know I should be excited for the Switch, but all I know about it is that it has a Zelda game that I'm not interested in. When it comes to fantasy Nintendo franchises, I follow Fire Emblem. Which means that the phone game is inexplicably enticing me more. Hopefully the January reveal will detail some games for me to get excited about.

Re: Review: Paper Mario: Color Splash (Wii U)

I was hoping that Peach would be spared from kidnapping since there was already a conflict in place, but alas. Holo-Peach sounds fun, but that just seems like a stretch to have it both ways when they could just have NPC Peach in person.

I might get this eventually, but I couldn't get into the sticker combat last time and this game looks to be in desperate need of character designs with effort put into them.

Re: Poll: What Are Your Most Anticipated Wii U and 3DS Games For the Rest of 2016?

LArachelDisciple

Pokémon Sun
Shantae: Half-Genie Hero
Hollow Knight
Ninja Pizza Girl
Rhythm Paradise Megamix

That last one was a placeholder. I could pick out 4 games. Shantae looks amazing, Pokémon looks strange, Ninja Pizza Girl is a funny title, and Hollow Knight gave me good screenshots in a Google image search just now.

Everyone else sees very few games, but this list gave me two games, Hollow Knight and Ninja Pizza Girl, that I hadn't heard of. It's an addition for me!

Re: Risa Tabata Talks Paper Mario's New Focus on Puzzle-Solving

LArachelDisciple

@Adamario That was beautiful. It actually brought a tear to my eye.

I could care less about Paper being an rpg. I want to talk to people. Actually talk to them. Not just to get a tutorial and not just so they can unfold and allow me to advance in a level. I want pointless npcs that I can talk to for the sheer joy of talking to them. Give me my partners back!

Re: Fresh Nintendo Patents Reinforce Concept of NX Featuring Detachable Controllers

LArachelDisciple

@Ralizah The secrecy just makes me think that they aren't confident enough in their product to show it off without last-minute improvements. I'm just hoping they're planning a stellar game line-up that they just need to make more exciting trailers for.

If these patents prove to be reflective of the NX, it will be the first time Nintendo's gimmicks have thrown me off. I'll need something crazy like the Paper Mario partners in Mario Party to get me to dive in on this weirdness.

Re: Editorial: Fire Emblem Fates and Code Name S.T.E.A.M., Two Very Different Intelligent Systems Ventures

LArachelDisciple

@Souldin I think that the average Nintendo fan's mindset can be described as "I want new IPs except when it comes to the one game/franchise that I worship." This seems to happen the most with Zelda and Metroid, I notice. Only Mario seems to get complaints about being oversaturated, yet these fans want Zelda/Metroid to be held to the same standard of constant game releases.

I love Codename S.T.E.A.M. for its art, literary references, and especially the ambitious Amiibo integration.

I'd like to see Lip come to the west, but I wouldn't be able to play Panel de Pon: I can't play puzzle games. My dream release is a Drill Dozer sequel.
