Get Ready for a Nintendo Direct on 13th September

I said this would happen, thought the announcement would be tomorrow or Wednesday though. Not today though because of 9/11. Hopefully it contains an avalanche of new games, particularly big 3rd party games. Not ports please.

Who cares about the Apple keynote announcing the new iPhone when there's a Nintendo Direct! 👍😊

As with any of these, my biggest hope is a surprise 'available after this presentation' moment. Even if it's small, I always love those

Now as for what we WILL see, I imagine there will be some last minute Samus Returns stuff, Mario Odyssey, Xenoblade 2, maybe a FE Warriors release date (which hopefully means a release date for the Chrom and Tiki amiibo), more info on the next Zelda DLC seems pretty likely... Should be a good show. Hopefully.

45 minutes!? That's pretty impressive for a Nintendo Direct. If it's anything like the last Switch/3DS one, it will be a pretty much none stop quick fire of announcements of games we know about and new titles.

I am hoping the fact it is 45 minutes is because it will be at least saying something about what is happening first half 2018. Surely it's not going to be more indie announcements as we not long ago had a Direct just for that.

Oh, and while I've been thinking on what should be in an ND, it occurred to me a few days ago we've seen nothing, not even a screenshot I think - of Champions Balled. Well maybe a screenshot but that's about it. Trailer and date would be nice.

Oooh... I LOVE to see some Wii U ports such as Paper Mario Color Splash or PS4 ports such as The Sims 4 / FF XII The Zodiac Age / FF X & X-2 HD / Kingdom Hearts 1.5 + 2.5 HD comes to Nintendo Switch.

Nintendo Switch will have half Wii U games, half PS4 games, half NEO GEO games and Switch library games will be built in different flavour.

I said the other day they'd have some stuff to carry on the "big-hitter-per-month" strategy into 2018. Hopefully (assuming I'm right!) we see some of that. I imagine those new Kirby and Yoshi games from E3 will pop up, though something we haven't seen that will be a Q1/Q2 release for next year would be nice. If there's anything "NEW" it's going to be ports, I don't see new BIG releases being announced right now for the coming months. What I do expect is the obvious Odyssey info, maybe new Pokken characters (though I wish they wouldn't waste time on this game since it's coming out so soon), some Warriors info, a release date for Xenoblade, some more details on the Kirby & Yoshi games, & the third parties coming this fall & winter, (Sonic, La NOIRE, Skyrim, legos, Rocket league....). No indies unless its big enough to warrant time. I hope for a new announcement, but I have my doubts.

For 3DS, a short amount of time for Metroid (very very short I hope), Pokemon Ultra's + Gold/silver, Warriors maybe?, superstar saga, Layton. I see it less likely to announce new 3DS games, unless they are eshop only, but maybe the more recent ace attorney games, Snack World & Yo-kai.

I expect release dates for Skyrim and Xenoblade Chronicles 2, MAYBE surprise announcement for Fallout 4 and Stardew Valley being available right after. Smash Bros might be announced, but I wouldn't bet on it.

I've got a bad feeling that they're going to announce some more Wii U ports. It would be hilarious if they were:

~ Devil's Turd
~ Sonic Doom

It's all about keeping those expectations in check. This isn't E3, so chances are they are not going to announce anything earth-shattering. The most you'll get is, maybe (PLEASE!! This wait is ridiculous!!) a Virtual Console announcement/transfer program.

Other than that, I expect:

Extended trailers, maybe, for previously-announced games.
-An official release date for Skyrim, which will probably drop sometime in November.
-A new Xenoblade Chronicles 2 trailer, with a release date tied to it (I'm predicting February of 2018).
-A new Yoshi trailer, with a release date of March or April of 2018.
-DLC announced for Super Mario Odyssey, making it the first mainline Mario game to have DLC (I'm not counting NEW Mario titles).

The big announcement of the iPhone X is on the 12th, this Direct is on the 13th. It could be a coincidence (there's only so many days in the year) but it could be a tie in.

If it is deliberately timed to follow Apple then there's one big game that could be an outside bet for announcement: Animal Crossing (since it will inevitably link with the iOS version).

It depends. So far, with a few exceptions, Nintendo has offered some awesome DLC (especially for Mario Kart 8, and BotW). The jury is still out. Honestly, I'm not too keen on DLC, but I think that it's more likely for them to announce it than to release an entry in one of their biggest franchises without it.

Will not watch as still trying to keep most of Mario Odyssey secret from myself.

With the switch selling so well, I think this will mainly focus on pre announced games and 3rd parties. However Holidays is lacking a casual game with Xenoblade for more hardcore covered.

I'm expecting Ultra Sun and Moon to be in it, since we seem to know less about that game than the mysterious Switch Pokemon Game they're working on.

I think a new Power Stone would be perfect for the Switch. Going all in that this will be an announcement on the direct. lol

I am eager to have a Direct but I've already been hiding away from the overload of Odyssey info so I don't ruin it for myself. I don't see what else Nintendo could possibly need to tell us about it.

Runner 3 release date also I bet.

Shenmue 1 and 2 would be nice what with the remaster rumours doing the rounds again and who doesn't want to cruise for sailors during a pub crawl.

Sounds promising with it being 45 minutes.

I bet they'll end up dedicating a segment to a major Switch update, something like virtual console or (perhaps more likely) an update involving themes or other customization options.

It's also the day I'm hoping to get a Switch, so that's a funny coincidence for me.

And the leak was spot on. Guy leaked LA Noire, he leaked the simple and fast UI, and now he leaked a Nintendo Direct.

We need to take everything this guy says, going forward, as gospel.

I'm excited, but I'm bummed that they're showing more of Odyssey. Gonna have to bail from the Direct when that portion shows up.

Life Is Strange for the Switch please

Super Mario Odyssey must be BOTW sized if they still have more gameplay to show without spoiling it. I mean they have already shown at least two hours of footage since E3, and as much I as tried, I could not resist watching all of it.

I'm thinking we will get some release dates for Xenoblade, Skyrim, and possibly Stardew Valley and Rocket League, more Kirby and Yoshi footage, a couple more Wii U ports (especially Bayonetta 2 and Smash Bros.), more details on the upcoming online service, Virtual Console plans, and maybe one big surprise reveal like an Animal Crossing or the Fire Emblem scheduled to come out in 2018. I think most big announcements will come after the holidays, but I would not be surprised if Nintendo snuck one into this Direct to keep people excited. We will see.

45 minutes is at least as long as their entire E3 presentation, so this could be a very nice Direct from Nintendo. Here are some items from my personal Wish List for it (some of which are obviously more likely than others; I'm omitting the obvious games that will be present such as Super Mario Odyssey):

1) More info on Project Octopath Traveler; that brief video by Square showed amazing hybrid 2D/3D. sprite-filled, classic RPG potential greatness.

2) An announcement trailer for next year's new PROPER SRPG mainstream Fire Emblem title. We haven't had a console Fire Emblem since the Wii and we need our fix.

3) A proper Virtual Console announcement (preferably with a partnership with Sega to port as many Saturn and Dreamcast games as possible). And yeah, GameCube ports would be a very nice bonus as well.

4) More information regarding Metroid Prime 4.

5) Another Season of content for Zelda: BOTW (unlikely; if anything the dev team is already hard at work planning the next Zelda) and/or Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (again though, the focus is most likely on an all-new installment).

6) An Advance Wars for Switch with local multiplayer and a Map Editor. Highly unlikely, even more so since we're getting a new Fire Emblem in 2018.

Things I DON'T want to see time wasted on in the Direct:

1) Amiibo
2) Mobile games
3) Theme Parks
4) Prattling on about sales figures. You're talking to your customers, not a board room full of stiff investors. Show me stuff that I want to play on that hardware you already sold me.

You literally have a 0% chance of hearing anything about Shenmue 1 & 2. Seeing as how Shenmue 3 is (at the moment) a PS4 exclusive, it would make absolutely no sense for Shenmue 1 and 2 to be announced for Switch before PS4. Don't get me wrong, the Shenmue series is one of my favorites, and I would kill to have it on-the-go, but it isn't going to happen (at least not before PS4 lands it).

You know what, though? I would kill to have Dreamcast as part of the VC lineup, even though I wouldn't count on it.

Maybe this is when we'll finally get a look at that multiplayer action game for the Kirby series...

45 minutes is a lot of time for Nintendo these days. My wishful thinking is that they need the extra time because they are going to be explaining something. So not just trailers and release notes but going in depth into something new that takes time. My hope is achievements and virtual console. UI 2.0 . Either way there is bound to be something for everyone in 45 mins.

Retro brought Metroid back from an eight year hiatus. They did the same for Donkey Kong Country which was on an even longer hiatus. They could easily do the same for F-Zero.

Since I'm already speculating wildly, MGSV on the Switch. (not gonna happen though...)

More Odyssey info? I don't remember the last time I was so hyped for a game on a system I don't even own.

Actually can fit a good bit of 3DS info into eight or ten minutes:

US/UM info even if it's not my thing. I kinda wish they added more mega-evolutions, at least for Johto starters. That G/S VC is so close I can taste it.

That holiday 2017 Kirby game, the kirbs is always a must-buy for me

FE Warriors "info" like how it will run on the new 3DS, what the version differences are - plus I'm one of the plebs who has only played Fates/Awakening but come on, give us some characters from previous installments to learn about.

You could even throw a surprise new game or 3rd party announcement in there (not to be confused with a New Game announcement).

What I would actually want though, is an announcement of at least a couple of those SNES VC games that Japan got a month ago (cough FF6 cough cough hack wheeze dies)

Not that it would be in a nintendo direct except in my dreams but has there been any info on legend of dark witch 3 in the last 9 months?

Obviously there's a lot they can show for the switch to the point where 40, 45, 50 minutes could be dedicated to Mario Odyssey alone and I'd still want more.

But still looking forward to it, especially being a long one and the Switch being on a roll of late.

My predictions: Xenoblade Chrinicles 2 release date, Bayo 1&2 collection, a brief Prime 4 teaser (but more than we got at E3), BotW DLC details, Ultra Sun/Moon, an unannounced 3DS title that no one but me will care about and an unannounced Switch port that everyone except me will care about.

My wish list: F F***ING ZERO ON SWITCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm keeping my enthusiasm in check. Nintendo has shown time and time again that they're experts at droning on about things we already know about. 45 minutes means nothing. I definitely expect a surprise or two, but by and large I'm certain this will feature games we already know are coming. Prove me wrong, Nintendo.

I've heard a wild rumor that Fallout 4 is going to be announced for Switch. Some of you may call BS on that but, as somebody who has invested well over 300 hours into the game, I honestly think that they could pull it off! The game, though huge, is not a graphical milestone. The only hurdle, if they were to attempt it, would be the voice work. However, they were able to pull it off for Skyrim, so I don't think that Fallout would be a problem.

Even after 300+ hours, I would seriously run through it again, just to have it on the go!

Anything beyond 10 mins dedicated to the 3DS will be unacceptable.

If they announced that the SNES VC games that Japan got, that were originally released in the states, would be released in NA then I would be happy! Other than that, make way for Switch!

Hate to shatter dreams but there is zero chance Virtual Console gets a mention or release date with SNES Classic so close to release. It'd hurt sales. The only way it would is if it's a complete rehaul of VC that has Wii U, Wii, and GameCube titles rather than a focus on older classic generations.

GTA VI: Not a snowball's chance, not even as a timed exclusive. Part of GTA's modern day appeal is with GTA Online, and Nintendo doesn't have their assets together enough to make it a viable investment on Rockstar's part.
-Advance Wars would be great, but I highly doubt it.
-2D Zelda would be awesome, but I think they'll probably take a bit of a break from Zelda.
-VC would be amazing, but I sincerely doubt that they'll announce anything about the VC service until next year (which is stupid AND unfortunate)
-With Fast Racing RMX, there isn't much incentive for Nintendo to revive the franchise. I would love to see it, but realistically?

@AlwaysGreener It's sad how many Mario games they have released in recent years and how they have ignored not only IPs but genres: racing games (other than Mario Kart), FPS (Metroid Prime), etc.

They showed the Metroid Prime 4 logo (last game was on Wii) but nothing about the other IPs that fans love and nothing about Metroid Prime 4 other than the logo.

My wife says she wants an XC2 bundle for Christmas. And I thought I had high hopes. I haven't written my "what I expect list" yet b/c I'm waiting for 1 of the other half dozen articles we'll get over the next 51 hours, but I am expecting a MK8 D bundle this fall. All of their current consoles have had MK bundles. Switch may be new and selling out but it will have to compete w/ cheap X1S and PS4, expensive X1X and PS4 Pro, curiosity PSVR ,and New 2DS XL w/ PS&MU this holiday. So $300 for a console could use a little marketing like MK8.

If only they announced Project Zero (Fatal Frame)!

@rjejr An XC2 bundle this year? That's a tall ask. Not that I'd complain, hopefully they do come out with a bundle, but I'm not seeing it happen this year. If they do, expect the same value as the Splatoon 2 bundle. That is to say, pretty much none.

@Heavyarms55 Yeah a lack of mods would be saddening but I'd give it up for the Switch's multiplayer capabilities.

A couple of system features/updates would be great too. The ability to power down the system using the home button, new UI themes & the ability to use screenshots taken as themes, custom gamerpics. I'll be happy if at least one of these is addressed, preferably the power down option though.

I was thinking of something earlier (and this is a total pipe dream), but how great would it be if Nintendo decided to reintroduce the NES Classic, along with additional games, and (temporarily) flood the market, just to stick it to the scalpers who are suddenly left with stockpiles of dead inventory?

It would almost be funny if they spent ten minutes announcing a flood of SNES/NES Classics, and then spend the remainder of the time mocking the jerks who bought up all of the original stock.

I don't know what to expect, honestly, I have no expectations, mostly because I have my fair share of worries over the uncertainty of a job maybe-coming-maybe-not, and surely because I haven't checked the Internet for gaming news over the weekend and as such the announcement came out of the blue.

One thing's for sure: 45 minutes. Three quarters of a full hour is quite the feat, but I'm afraid of padding because this much footage is surely suspicious; on the other hand, if they deliver... well, we might as well as call this E3 2017.5, which would already be hype-worthy.

Anyway, I'll keep my expectations - or lack thereof - well in check for this one. Except for the following, of course.

I'd like to see some new announcements that show a bit of third party support. Specifically I'd like to see that Koei-Tecmo relationship blossom into Switch owners getting Three Kingdoms games on a portable rather than additional Warriors games with Nintendo characters.

Also this late in the game, that "Kirby 2017" 3DS game is almost for sure going to be an anniversary collection centered around multiplayer gaming and announced in this direct. Otherwise, it was either cancelled or they have made the ridiculous choice to delay it.

Ok so it's just stuff for now til XMAS so I'm expecting
Fire emblem, resident, mario, Fifa, Skyrim, rocket league, xenoblade, zelda DLC, la noir, and other third party. Nothing new and exciting.
No mention of monster hunter. No mention of vc. No mention of online service or voice chat games.
No mention of anything that we don't already know!
