Re: Antonblast Looks Like The Wario Land Successor We've Been Begging For

LArachelDisciple

So cool to see fans make the sequels they want to see! The Game Boy Advance is home to such amazing sprite work that this can be authentic while still looking great.
The character design is kind of ugly, but it is meant to be a spin on Wario. Wario is kind of an ugly, unconventional design that we like for his expressiveness and our familiarity with him. I could see myself getting used to how Anton looks and appreciating him more.

Re: Pokémon Sword And Shield Players Can Now Vote For The Next In-Game Distribution

LArachelDisciple

The people love them bottle caps.

I guess I shouldn't have expected anything too exciting for a distribution that we can vote on. But I saw the article and thought maybe they were distributing hard to find/hard to evolve Pokemon or something.

Doesn't effect me. I played the single player campaign and stopped there, as I've done with every Pokemon game without Battle Frontier or Pokestar Studios to give me something to do.

First one I've deleted the save data immediately after completion, though. I knew I wouldn't be revisiting this one.

Man, I wish Marnie got more screentime and development. Most interesting character of the game and she's barely in it in favor of the other rivals.

Re: Soapbox: Be Happy, This Is The True Golden Age Of Gaming

LArachelDisciple

I'm not going to try and take the excitement from anyone else, since my take isn't going to be the definitive one, but for me the Golden Age ran from Gamecube/GBA to Wii U/3DS. I feel like Mario (especially the RPGs), Pokemon, and Sonic are in slight slumps right now. They are foundational series for my childhood, but the shift towards different sorts of gameplay and more minimalist creative worldbuilding and casts have taken some of the excitement out of them. I've been slowly transitioning to Shantae, Fire Emblem, Ace Attorney, and discovering Dragon Quest via 3DS releases as the franchises I'd call my favorites now.

It's hard not to feel like I'm entering a different age for gaming, one where new things are showing some promise but things I used to like are starting to move away from what I liked most about them. Guess I should carry the fond memories, and replay them since I've never resold any game I've purchased, while searching for what this new age will have for me.

Re: Mobile Dev DeNA Wants To Make Its "Relationship" With Nintendo "Even Better" Going Forward

LArachelDisciple

I give credit that Fire Emblem Heroes has a lot of decent-to-good character work and I like it. It has L'Arachel with a voice actress, which justifies its existence alone. Pokemon Masters I can't play because of my phone, sadly.

And that concludes my interest in Nintendo's mobile efforts. Can't imagine being interested in Dr. Mario or Pikmin as mobile games. I feel like I got my fill of Pikmin with the first two entries and I honestly don't feel much need to continue with that series.

Man, if F-Zero actually comes back as a mobile game, the comment section will go nuclear.

Re: Koei Tecmo's President Would Love To See A Super Mario Musou Crossover

LArachelDisciple

Mario, Luigi, Peach, Daisy, Toad, Toadette, Yoshi, Birdo, Wario, Waluigi, Rosalina, E, Gadd, Bowser, Bowser Jr., King Boo, Petey Piranha, Melody, Captain Syrup, Ashley, Goombella, Parakarry, Lady Bow, Vivian, Count Bleck, Prince Peasley, Queen Bean, Fawful, Popple, Nabbit, FLUDD, Boom Boom, Pom Pom, Tatanga, Wart.

Quite a robust lineup! Could be very fun if Nintendo doesn't insist on pulling a Mario Kart and padding the roster with endless Babies, Koopalings, and powerup variants for Mario and Peach.

Re: Nintendo's Ready For Acquisitions, When The Time Is Right

LArachelDisciple

Given the reasoning for Next Level Games, I could see their near constant collaboration with Bandai Namco and Koei Tecmo leading to something here. Wayforward would be pretty rad for the ips, but they're fairly small as a company and I think Nintendo would be looking for expanding their offices over getting Shantae.

I'm seeing some love for Level 5 here and, as much as I'd like for them to continue on, I don't see Nintendo performing a rescue with the current stated reasoning.

Re: The Epic Vs Apple Lawsuit Might Have Revealed Phil Spencer's Nintendo Secret

LArachelDisciple

While Cloud does present a kinda neat work around for Nintendo perpetually being behind the tech curve by bringing the latest stuff to their consoles anyway, I don't think I'd jump on board for it.

I think I'd rather see a collaboration come in the form of a single game that they develop together. I'm sure a mess of issues would come from trying to do that, but think of the possibilities of what their combined strengths could make!

Re: Nintendo's Future Is Focused On New IP And "Staple Series"

LArachelDisciple

I love the first 3 Paper Marios, but since they're determined not to let the series be what it should be, I'm in favor of letting Warioware/Wario Land completely overtake it as the secondary Mario IP. I'd rather Wario's stuff be saved than endure "he's made out of paper and that's so silly!" humor. I'm not fighting scissors, okay?

My dormant wants are Kid Icarus, Custom Robo and Drill Dozer. But the problem is how I understand Nintendo's creative process. They make a gameplay prototype first, than attach an ip "face" to the prototype. Works good for staples that sell no matter what and new stuff, but revivals? You'd get completely off-genre spin-offs that fans will have no patience for in light of their long wait for a new entry. Revivals represent a challenge to completely reverse how Nintendo operates: Setting out from the beginning to be a Star Fox or Earthbound game.

Kid Icarus Uprising was saved for me by the strong writing, as the gameplay itself is somewhat frustrating. But strong writing isn't always a reliable trait from Nintendo.

Re: Talking Point: What We're Hoping To See In Today's Nintendo Direct

LArachelDisciple

-Shantae Smash reveal, Ring Fit Adventurer confirmed for next slot
-New Mario Baseball game that carries over all previous players and adds new characters that have cropped up since then
-Yarn Donkey Kong Country
-New Pokemon Snap will probably get some play
-Expecting Animal Crossing/Ring Fit Adventure updates
-Fire Emblem Echoes. I'd love a Sacred Stones remake most of all, but Genealogy would do.
-GBA online, with freshly translated Mother 3 and Fire Emblem Binding Blade as incentives
-Zelda and Metroid directs slated for later in the year

Re: Super Smash Bros. Ultimate's Next DLC Fighter To Be Revealed Tomorrow, 1st October

LArachelDisciple

If it's not Shantae, Phoenix Wright, or a Koei Tecmo rep like Ryu Hayabusa or Lana from Hyrule Warriors, I'm not interested in any more Third Party characters.

A new Zelda character seems overdue, since we haven't had a real Zelda newcomer since Melee. I'd also love to get Susie Haltmann or Gooey.

Maybe a new character set to premiere in Metroid Prime 4. That would be a neat appetizer.

Re: Nintendo Reveals Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, A New Zelda Set 100 Years Before Breath Of The Wild

LArachelDisciple

Honestly, I'm just not very interested in Breath of the Wild's world. I just didn't care for the game. So while Hyrule Warriors is my favorite Zelda game, I already know how this ends and don't feel motivated to play it.

On the bright side, It's not a port! Yes! A new game! Good work, Nintendo!

Now give Koei Tecmo a fighter in Smash as thank you for all the good collab work they do with you.

Re: Sega To Celebrate Sonic's 30th With New Games, Major Announcements And More

LArachelDisciple

Sonic Adventures 1 & 2 glowed up to modern graphical standards would be beyond amazing! Also rooting for a new Sonic Storybook or Sonic RPG.

But I'll be reasonable and just ask for something that gives Knuckles/Rouge/Blaze a substantial narrative role. They get three choices there for flexibility.

Outside of just game releases, I'd be on board for a line of Sonic Amiibo too.

Re: Rumour: Is The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword Taking To The Skies On Nintendo Switch?

LArachelDisciple

There are precious few games I want rereleased when I still own the original copies. Skyward Sword is at the absolute bottom of games I want to play again. I didn't find it fun or engaging.

You know what would be cool for the anniversary next year? The Oracle games. Now those are games with amazing character designs that could do with an upgrade from antiquated technology. I'd be all over that!

Re: Another Crusade Wants To Be Super Mario RPG's Spiritual Successor

LArachelDisciple

The typo is embarrassing. In fact, the promotional text in general is a bit awkward, which doesn't bode well of the game's writing, unless the trailer was rushed and the in-game writing will be better polished.

That said, it looks like the gameplay itself is a pretty good recreation of the most distinctly average, middle-of-the-road Mario RPG. The mechanics are all there for a good foundation, so I think it'll probably turn out okay. Something great could even be built up from this.

Unfortunately, I don't have money to spare for a kickstarter, since I already bought some cool Shantae t-shirts this month. I wish them luck!

Re: Poll: Did The Nintendo Direct Mini: Partners Showcase Meet Your Expectations?

LArachelDisciple

I am starting to wonder what Nintendo's waiting for in regards to their own announcements. Maybe their strategy is to force all of their releases to be a success by making it seem like there are no other options. Or maybe they're hoping to foster relations with third parties by stepping back to spotlight them?

I'm not mad, I'm just puzzled.

More to the point, I'm completely indifferent to the announcements here. Nothing I'm getting. I'm wondering if this new plan of doing shorter and shorter directs will work out for them, or if it's just going to keep feeling like it's too short. I'd prefer that all the Direct minis be taped together to watch in one go, rather than all the "stay tuned for the next 1-2 things later!"

Re: Sega Wants To Take "Good Care" Of 2D And 3D Sonic In The Future

LArachelDisciple

I'll always stick up for the Adventure games, Heroes, and even Shadow the Hedgehog as great, enjoyable games. But I've never cared for the "Boost formula" games, as they're called. I think boosting worked better in Sonic Rush, on a 2D plane.

For 3D Sonic, I think something combining SA2 Sonic levels with Sonic Heroes' flight formation. So you have a fully-controlled Sonic to run through the level with, but Tails follows you and can give Sonic a lift across chasms instead of the ring dash doing that.

Re: Poll: Paper Mario: The Origami King Is Out Today On Switch, Are You Getting It?

LArachelDisciple

Just wanted to come in and recommend Bug Fables as something much closer to the Mario rpgs than Paper Mario will ever be again. They think the changes have improved the series, and Miyamoto will slap down anyone who thinks otherwise.
I enjoyed Bug Fables a lot, and it helped me accept that Paper Mario is a lost cause that I don't need to hold hope for anymore. Everyone should go try it! It's got so many neat, unique npc designs and imaginative worldbuilding!
