Re: Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Version 10.0.0 Is Now Live, Here Are The Full Patch Notes

@sanderev Beat him as Cloud on Very Hard like the 9th or 10th try. I just 3-stocked him on Lv. 8 as Samus. He has his weaknesses (speed and angle-of-approach)...

But in MY HANDS, I'm using Neutral B and ERASING every AI opponent. Side B is so much pressure and so fast and has range. This is going to shake up online like crazy. Hard to say whether he should be needed or not, but full charged Neutral B is just killing everything.

Re: Random: RE4 Director Was Worried About PlayStation And Xbox's Future, So He Did A Deal With Nintendo

KingBowser86

Honestly, I don't blame him. PS1, had a load of games. PS2 did too, and XBox threw out Halo and online play. Naturally, people would want to see what the follow-ups would bring to the table.

But PS4 and XBox One? And now PS5 and XBox Series? How? Why? They're barely even incremental improvements. And the libraries are...meh. Power of brand loyalty and marketing right there, ladies and gentlemen.

And Nintendo's is saving their rears right now, because between all the Switch's flaws and what's going on in the competitive community.... it is Nintendo's IP's, general quality standards including customer service, and the mountain of past Goodwill (that they're burning through) that's keeping their reputation afloat. Wholly expecting a February Direct.

@backup368 You mean the terrible game that didn't even fit the franchise's artstyle identity much less actually functioned as a 3D collectathon platformer in favor of vehicle building? Nuts and Bolts was a bad game as evidenced by the fans' reactions and fan/professional reviews, a number of YouTube retrospectives (JonTron as an entertaining highlight), and tanking the franchise even in the hands of money-hungry Microsoft.

I guess fans are stupid for not buying Sonic Boom and should have felt blessed to have the original horrifying movie design for Sonic. Tell you what, maybe Mario should have taken a long hiatus after Super Mario Sunshine.
That's you. That's how you sound, you revisionist contrarian.

KingBowser86

@RupeeClock You'd think it wouldn't be hard given the wealth of source material but it is difficult to make into an engaging show.

Long story short, Mega Man classic is engaging because of the fast-paced action and platforming. Mega Man spends very little time at the lab or around humans. The Archie comics added more interactions and did it well, can't say the same for Fully Charged.
Now if we're talking about any of the other variants, those have way more opportunities for interactions and dialogue.

Re: Smash Bros. Ultimate Mushroom Tournament Starts Later This Week

KingBowser86

@Marioman2020 I will say that the Japanese naming of this is "Beware of Mushrooms" and the last reveal strangely told of a "Mario-themed Tournament" later in the year for the anniversary and went into no more details. Those things combined make for some strange happenings.
But it's all still very much up in the air. Seeing a reveal at TGA is equally as likely as a 12/14 @ 10:30 broadcast for Tales Of's 25th, so who knows.

Re: Nintendo Cancels Splatoon 2 NA Open Livestream, "Free Melee" Believed To Have Played A Part

KingBowser86

Okay, let's start from the beginning:
Nintendo releases the party fighter game Super Smash Bros. Melee. The game has exploits and glitches that were noticed in development but left because it was thought that they would not affect gameplay (and I don't mean something as simple as L-Cancelling because that was in the N64 manual, even). This enabled faster methods of play but required practice and prior knowledge commitments outside of the scope of a casual game. Furthermore, the faster gameplay exacerbated the game's roster balance issues. Yet, it still caused a portion of the player-base to cling to the game due to the time invested into the winning techniques and strategies and being unwilling to change from those, even going as far as to cause some of these players to adopt an elitist attitude. Then came Brawl, with online play, and that portion of the community begins modding the game and their hardware to these same specifications to be played online. This, as opposed to adapting to the new game despite its warts (which Melee also had). Fast forward to the current Smash tournament scene, wherein the majority of Melee-esque variant players are aged well outside of Nintendo's target market. The Melee portion again modifies the game but this time creates a separate online netcoding mechanism from the official one (better or worse) that requires one to use ROMS. Not so bad in and of itself were it isolated, but goes on to have online tournaments and promotes illegal downloading of a current software title which Nintendo has been legally proven to be required to strike down or face legal challenges to future official endeavors. On top of that, the community at-large has been riddled with exploitation-of-minors (again, Nintendo's target market) scandals. Despite all of this and the known toxicity sent towards Nintendo this whole timeframe whether their actions were insignificant or understandably questionable, the Smash tournament scene wants to move on as if there are no issues.

There are a load of issues. I do not blame Nintendo for cancelling a livestream of an official event just to head off negative press from a community that has more than proven its toxicity time and time again, largely stemming from portions of the player-base that want a given thing but won't unify with the rest of the community because the remainder and majority of the player-base understands that the developers are adjusting the gameplay mechanics with each installment to see what works. The larger portion of the player-base does not want to cling to ONLY a past method of play that is inherently damaging to a casual game without even attempting other methods or innovations. I'm not saying Melee gameplay feats aren't technically impressive, they are and require time and work. But hamfisting them into an existing game is or going outside of the scope of casual game requirements is not conducive to Smash's mode of operation as an entertainment product for the masses as-is.

It's not a crime to prefer an older game for valid reasons (objective or subjective) but this level of past-clinging is as self-damaging as being a vinyl record-only snob or internal combustion engine-only extremist — we MUST question your motivations for clinging onto a thing with which you are comfortable when you are standing in the way of forward progress hurting others too.

MOVE ON.

Re: Capcom Switch Sale Discounts Resident Evil, Devil May Cry, Mega Man And More (North America)

KingBowser86

I can't stress enough how much of a joy DMC3's switching features is. Granted, much of the game is made quick work of by using the Trickster style, but Swordmaster is incredibly handy for the spiders with Agni and Rudra, not sweating the weapon-specific statues or weapon-weak bosses, as well as for those times that you need Aerial Raves (Cerberus, face angels, etc.).

And, while not on sale, a sidenote that Hidden Folks (as made recently internet-famous by Vtuber Korone) is on the Switch for $11.99.

Re: Soapbox: If The Smash Community Wants To #SaveSmash, It Needs To Start From Within

KingBowser86

@l55 Nintendo could long stand to benefit from learning to competently netcode for many many years. Online is not their strong point. The previous issues I mentioned PLUS utilizing ROMS PLUS exalting the exploits and lack of roster balance in Melee have all done enough damage to the point that I call both of these groups even.
A community is more than welcome to enjoy a past game, but not to the point of getting faux-elitist and demanding about it. I prefer Mario kart 64 above pretty much any entry (8/DX have nice QoL, obviously), but I'm not going to beat down Nintendo's door for tournaments and prize money and looking the other way legally and whatever else.

Blue backdrop with good framing >>> yellow backdrop with noisy foreground, but that's it as far as advantages go. (Enough to get my vote.) The island full of striped mushrooms would be my only other nitpick of the JP boxart. Still, just like SMB3, something iconic about that solid color.
