Ubisoft surprised the world in September with the announcement Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game – Complete Edition would be released on multiple platforms (including Switch) holiday 2020.
Unfortunately, it seems the game won't actually be arriving in "2020" as such, with a post on Ubisoft's website revealing the beloved 2D arcade-style beat 'em up will now be made available on 14th January next year.
"The game you know and love is coming back on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and more! Rediscover the beloved 2D arcade-style beat 'em up game inspired by the iconic comic book series and movie. Available January 14, 2021!"
The Scott Pilgrim creator also chimed in on Twitter, mentioning the possibility of a physical version:

Not sure why this game is being delayed like it's a AAA release.
Weird. Are older games hard to port?
Even if you've not seen the film or read the comics, it's a blast. Great visuals and tunes
Eh, as long as we're getting a physical edition.
Strange delay, since it's literally just a port, but it's delayed by like 3 minutes, so whatever.
I just hope we get a physical edition so this game isn't lost in time again.
A port that came out 10 years ago still needs a delay? Oh well more time for me to finish the Wand of Gamelon Remastered then.
SOR4 much better.
Never understood the love for this game. Was “meh” when it came out... worse now, so many years later.
It’s literally been delayed by a few weeks lmao. Seriously hyped, I still have the original on my PS3 and looking forward to diving back in.
@TimboSlice It came out at a time when 2D beat em ups were practically dead, before even Double Dragon Neon. It has a killer soundtrack and art style and is based on a hugely popular comic series. It’s also 10 years old, saying SOR4 is better is a bit silly because SOR4 spent a whole lot longer in development with a larger team and benefits from modern development methodologies. The difference in time between the two releases is the same as between GTA3 and Skyrim.
Weird that it's getting delayed but guess will be worth it if it means a physical release; would rather not lose this game to the ether again.
well there goes my holiday season...
Why though? Like everyone is saying, it's just a port and one they announced, what, 2-3 months ago? Longer?
Not a problem I’m still clearing my backlog 😓 but I’m really happy to hear of the possible physical, that’s what I’ve been hoping for. Gladly will wait for that
@JuiceMan_V COVID bro. Folks are working remotely which slows things down. 500 people working on a big release or 3 people working on a small one. What’s the difference?
A shame for sure but at least we've got a release date! ...and the prospect of a physical? Nice. Guess I'll be double dipping with this one on Switch.
Cant wait to replay it... hopefully they bring back online. Would love to play it with a few of my friends online.
And a physical release as well!? Count me in!!
Guess that's an Evil Ex-Release Date, now! 🤣
I probably would wait out on the physical, just like I am for No More Heroes 1+2.
Fun fact and confirmed by O’Malley himself: Travis Touchdown appears in the crowd as a cameo in volume 6 of the Scott Pilgrim series. It was drawn by his assistant.
I guess with the the prince of persia remake delay they had to squeeze something into January.
Glad they delayed it. Rather have it 100% good, then having bugs from a sloppy port ruin a good time.
It's OK. As long as we have a release date.
I have no problem with the delay. Besides, I can still just bring out my 360 to play it. But having this on the Switch will be perfect.
Delayed just a few weeks? Psh, like that'll stop me from buying it. Nice try Gideon!
Will wait for the physical thanks
Maybe they think the holiday season is alittle crowded with all the new systems out?
Hopefully they add a level select or a save point so you can continue from where you left off (even if it's at the start of a level). I've seen/played that first level way too many times!!
Really looking forward to this and as im working pretty much solid through Christmas I will be able to enjoy it on release instead of having it and not being able to play.
Bummer but we’ve waited this long. Still so happy about the prospect of having this masterpiece on our Switches!
Wonder why it got delayed. Its not like the game itself isn't already done.
@TimboSlice I am sad that you're comparing a 2019 game to a 2000s or so game that you've probably never played before and at the same time kind of just pushing the fans aside and calling this game "meh" when it's anything but "meh".
A physical version of this game would easily sell 500k+ units
I'll be waiting for the physical version
Work hard on getting that physical happen, dude.
Comes out on my birthday
@sleepinglion Yes, they were made for different platforms, with different specs, so porting can be a pain in the ass. I'm looking forward for it!
I've wanted to play the game and read the comic book ever since I saw the movie back in the day, I love it, I watch it regularly on Netflix. I'm reading the comic book now, it's waaaay better than the movie. I'll get the game day one!
@nessisonett
Right, but if you are new to the game or haven’t had the nostalgia of Pilgrim, then this would not be a choice beat em up to pick up, compared to other games you could now buy.
Understandably newer games are better, but that’s kinda my point.
And I did play through this whole game when it came out and liked it.. but even then thought castle crashers offered a bit more value and enjoyment..
I just wouldn’t recommend this to a new player looking for a beat em up game today, who didn’t love the pilgrim franchise.
@N8tiveT3ch That still means we get the game, right?
Can’t wait. Might buy digital day 1 and physical when it realeases. Worth it
This game needs a physical copy for preservation reasons.
Delay makes sense. Get out from under the shadow cast by cyberpunk. Despite being very different games, launching too close to a major tentpole release would impact sales negatively.
This is the one game I wanted to play with cousins over Christmas after dinner. Uuuuugh!
Double dippin’ on this for the physical and digital release for sure.
To anyone who's wondering, It's probably taking a bit longer than expected because the making of games on the ps3 was really weird compared to everything else, and those games are more frustrating to port, which is why we don't have too many ps3 games on the ps4.
Physical copy only. I'll probably get it on PC so I'll never lose it.
